UP NEXT BRENTFORD AT THE COTTAGE(http://www.friendsoffulham.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/2223_BrentfordH.png)
Brentford are running on a high having tied Leicester on their opening fixture and then beating Man United 4 – 0 in Saturday's fixture. I for one would never have thought that was going to happen but United crashed and burned in spectacular fashion. Brentford by my count have brought in 11 new signings and had 10 players leave. Pretty good turnover for just one season.
Lots of interesting questions as always to debate.
What would your team be for Brentford? Keeping in mind the recent performances from some players. Clean sheet against Wolves so should MS experiment and swap out Rodak for Leno? Does he drop Tete and one of the CB's to bring in Diob and Mbabu?
What is your prediction for Brentford. Will Brentford still be riding on a high and expect to roll us over? Do you think Fulham can come out and play with the same intensity as they did against Liverpool? Securing a point in difficult matches is fantastic but personally, I'm hoping that Fulham start getting all three against teams likes this. Especially with this being a home match and the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea following in the next weeks.
So, give your thoughts and predictions.
Similar to my Wolves prediction, another draw. We have only won 1 in our last 7 meetings, and we are a touch better than we were during those meetings, though they may be as well. Similar to our first two matches, could go either way depending on who is clinical in front of goal. Thankfully Wolves weren't last week blowing their 3 or so clear cut chances.
Really has to be a Fulham Win, drawing is a bad habit in the Premiership.
Fulham 3 - 1 Brentford, like to see a clean sheet, but Brentford are pretty slick going forward.
Fulham 1 - 2 Brentford
They'll be 2 up in the first 30 minutes.
Gee Milo, you are glass three quarter empty man. My prediction is the opposite 2-1 in our favour. It will be a tough one but with the same mindset as the Liverpool game, we could win out on the day. If they have to settle for another draw - what will be, will be, but it will start to get worrying at that point. In Marco we must trust!
2-2
I can't stand them, they are really annoying, but they are a good side and will be in mid table comfort this season. I think we are improving ourselves but we are lacking the ability to kill off games. I will go for a 1-1 draw.
Think it'll be a draw or loss. Just feel we're lacking that cutting edge up front and our defence against the likes of toney and mbuemo will have problems.
An ideal game to get Leno and maybe even Diop in for the extra pace vs ream (though I know ream has been one of our best defenders so far - just think he'll have rings run around him by mbuemo and toney).
Don't think it'll be a draw but realistically see a Brentford win as they seem to love winning at the cottage + looked very sharp vs united. Should be a great game - hope our fans are up for it although it's more of a cup final for Brentford.
A home win mitro to score.
Alas we are currently toothless up front (on Saturday's evidence) and Brentford are on fire
This is reflected in the bookies making us slight favourites, but we are odds against when we should be odds on...
Intellect says Brentford and the heart is keeping out of it
Not sure our attack has enough quality at the moment. Couple of oven ready players in this week and it might look a lot different. They are flying 2-0 down at Leicester to get a draw 4-0 win over Man Utd. In a roundabout way probably the least team you want to face currently. Hate to say it but it is only start of the week so things can change but I can't see anything other than a home defeat and might be a heavy one. Don't want to put score up as not to keep reminding myself.
The injuries to Solomon and Wilson are killing us. We need some help asap. Coming up against a free scoring rival who's fans absolutely despise Fulham isn't going to be easy. I make them favourites but definitely won't write the Whites off. I reckon if Silva comes up with a plan to nullify them and our guys raise their levels to those seen against Liverpool, coupled with a similar effort from the stands we can nick this.
Must match the Brentford work rate. Fulham has better players but need to apply themselves to the max.
I'd expect the same team out.
It's to early to call it a must win game, but this is certainly one of those games we should be looking to pick up three points from. Hoping we can bring in a forward before the game.
I won't and never will contemplate us losing, because things happen.
We have to turn up and beat them. This is a must win if we're to survive. I'm fed up with teams underperforming against Brentford.

Same team most likely. A game we should be looking to win. 5 points from 3 would be a good start - 2 points from 3, not so much.
I'd be disappointed if we failed to bring in a forward this week, given our injury situation.

I saw he picked up a knock, but haven't see anything about him being out this week? If he's out, then I guess TC or Jay will play in that role. Hoping we bring in another player before the game
We start as the underdogs. Brentford have scored 6 without reply. Its been a couple or so games since we did that. Lets see what happens. Silva has instilled fight in the side and the defence is solid(ish).

I asked about this in another thread and apparently Silva said Pereria was fine, nothing serious. So I doubt he's injured unless something else has surfaced?
They come as big favourites to win in my eyes. They have been a very good team for several years now and are set up well. Plus playing us is always a cup final for them so they'll be up for it. Their fans are obsessed with us and QPR. I got a mate who is Brentford, nice geezer but weird as **** - like most Brentford fans I find and he spends more time talking about Fulham than Brentford!... so a good team but they are still a very small club with small club mentalities so they'll be massively up for it. We definitely need a win. Draws at home to mid table teams are no good. The prem is so cut throat. I'm predicting 1-1 though.
With Wilson, Solomon and possibly Pereira out injured we are a weakened team.
Possible line up
Leo
Mbabu Tosin Ream Robinson
Reed Palhinha
Cairney
BDR Mitro Kebano
We will again have to fight like dogs and Mitro will need to convert the penalty but it is going to be so hard to get the three points.
Mbabu and Robinson will need to prove themselves in attack because BDR and Kebano will be locked down by the Bees defense.

Agree, I think that is a good-looking team. Question would be how fit Tom is. Though if Tom did start MS could always look to bring Stansfield on in the 70th minute or even earlier to give him more minutes.
I personally think Mitro does better with a strike partnership rather than playing a lone striker in a 4-2-3-1. Would rather see a 4-4-2 with the strike partner playing slightly deeper off his shoulder.
As I said in the opening OP, Fulham have a tough set of fixtures coming up so teams like Brentford and even Brighton, I'm hoping can produce all three points for Fulham.
2-1 to Fulham in a very high intensity match.

So how does that work then? A Brentford win and "a great game" are absolute polar opposites.
As painful as it is to say, Brentford have become an extremely well run club from top to bottom, plus have an exciting style on the pitch and a knack of consistently unearthing gems of players. That said, we have struck gold in hiring a much improved Silva with the kinks ironed out and has show - crucially - who is tactically flexible enough to successfully adapt his free scoring Champ team into a solid an effective Prem team (with largely the same players). Hoping we can get through 2-1 but given how good Brentford are, a 0-0 or 1-1 wouldn't be a disaster.
Could we not play both Tete AND Mbabu, Tete at right back with Mbabu further forward replacing either BDR or Kebano.
Score prediction 1-3 Brentford.
As much as i would love a win, i feel it may be another draw.
This is a match that we need to lay down a 'marker', a good performance and win will do that.
Struggling to see where the goals are coming from so am hoping we can shut them out and nick one. 1-0 I like the idea of playing Mbabu in front of Tete, maybe try a 442
Rodak
Tete Tosin. Ream. Robinson
Mbabu Palhina. Reed. Kebano
Reid. Mitro
2-0 Brentford.
*washes mouth out with soap*
Tough game. Have watched both of their games, and they are playing well. Think we'll take something from the game, but not convinced that we'll get the win.
Fulham to win 2-1
049:gif
Difficult one to call I think. Brentford quite rightly on a high but may struggle against the 90 minute competitive teams Marco has sent out for our first two marches.
Losing Wilson & Solomon does affect our ability going forward, but BDR and Kebano have been effective when we do not have the ball. Wolves had some success with balls between Tete & Toyo first half which was a concern, but we seemed to nullify the threat second half. Would be good to have a pact forward to come off the bench however.
My prediction, however scores first will win 2-1.
Same starting XI.
I can't accept right now any scenario other than a win. This is the closest to a must win as we can have, considering the upcoming next few games. Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea are at least as good as Liverpool atm, Brighton- I've watched both of their games and they impressed me, they are playing like a top 8 team so far. Which leaves us with Brentford, we must do all it takes to finish this game with a win. Silva spoke about how he thinks we can do much better job with the ball, so I'd like to see a progress in this aspect. I want to see us building the attack much faster, I'd like us to think faster once we pressing and intercepting the ball. We need Mitro fully focused, we need Palhinha to do a better job at opening himself to receive the ball (I thought he did a poor job regarding that against Wolves), we need Reed to keep his high intensity and Pereira to be much more creative offensively, we need Kebano and BDR to be at their best, and of course, we need a better game plan for dealing with Brentford counter attacks because they will clearly try to exploit our holes there.
I trust Silva to get the best out of the team in this super important match.
2-1 Fulham.
Need to match Brentford's physicality not only standard play but particularly defending set pieces; because of this I believe that Diop needs to start on Saturday to give the defence more strength against the front line power that Brentford possess together with the expected aerial bombardment. Our right side of defence was exposed several times against Wolves, so Kenny Tete will need to be more aware and sharper on Saturday otherwise need Mbabu to be given the role. Fulham are the better football team but need to win the individual physical battles on the pitch in order to come out on top.

2-1 Fulham.
Fully agree with this. This is a very early must win considering the coming schedule as well as the fact we aren't already on 4 points. Brentford are a well run side in form but we have to trust Silva and aren't without our own chances. I'm also going for 2-1 Fulham
At home but Brentford on a high.
Another clean sheet for Rodak. 1-0.
Having listened to a pod today and having talked with some of my mates, I feel this is the best lineup for the upcoming match.
Leno
Mbabu Tosin Ream Robinson
BDR Reed Palhinha Kebano
Pereira
Mitro
I have said this in the past and I'll repeat myself again. There are 38 matches in the PL while there is 46 in the Championship. That is 24 more possible points up for grabs for survival in the league. It also means in my view that every match matters that much more in the Premier League.
For that reason, even though I know it's a bit unfair for Rodak, I feel it's time for Leno to step in between the sticks. I also think it would be good to allow Mbabu to start as RB. If Pereira is fit, I would still like for him to start. If he's injured, then I'd like to see Tom start.
I'd also like to see Stansfield get more then 15 minutes to show what he can do, and I'd like to see Harris on the bench and given a chance to get a few minutes.
For me Kebano has been struggling beating defenders, inability to get a first time cross in. I think he dwells on the ball too much.
Although when he loses the ball, he does attempt to get it back. So defends from the front. He needs to find that extra gear.
Leno
Robinson, Ream, Tosin, Mbabu
Palhinha, Reed
Kebano, Andreas, BDR
Mitrovic
Rodak, Tete, Diop, Duffy, Chalobah, TC, Harris, Stansfield, Muniz.
Bench looks extremely light. Shame Kluivert doesn't look like getting over the line in time for Saturday.

Agree that Mbabu and Leno must also come in and I'd also say that Sylvester Jasper has to be given a place on the bench as far as wide players are concerned he is the next cab on the rank, after being persuaded to stay it would be a shame if he's not offered some kind of hope.

Because Mbabu has got electric pace and offers us a bit more going forward at a time we are lacking width.
Mbabu is not good going forward. He has a grand total of 5 assist and 3 goals throughout his career.
Sure got an assist against Villareal, but Tete got one against Liverpool.
No doubt Brentford will change tactics many times during the game.
Against Man U their heavy press really worked well early on, and later in the game the counter attack split M.U. apart.
Let's hope we can combat these and also cope with the inevitably embardment that will come.
Leno in
Diop in
3-1 the Whites

Is he? I have no idea, I have never seen him play.
But what I do know is that Tete is a top half PL defender and we need to start him when he's fit
Thoughts? Still a bit depressed/disappointed in this transfer period. We have/are fielding basically a championship level team with the exception of the two P's in midfield, and when one or both are off the pitch even much more so a Champ side. And trying to compete in the Prem. Cap tip to the boys and MS for grabbing two points so far, but easily could have been no points sitting bottom.
Just cautiously optimistic we can get 'something' out of this home match, but won't be totally deflated if we get nothing. This team won't be sorted until the last minute of the transfer or even in the second transfer period later in the season. Just a shame FFC can't get things done smartly and quickly (for preseason) but this seems to be the FFC way. Fingers crossed the lads can have a solid outing v Brentford. COYW
Just listened to Marco's Brentford Preview. Says no new injuries and that he still has the same squad to choose from as last week. Only injuries are the same long term ones. So I'm guessing that Pereira is available.

He was impressive against Liverpool, less so against Wolves.
I predict my blood will boil if I see anyone wearing a half & half scarf tomorrow.
As for the match, feeling unusually confident of at least a point.
2-0 to the Fulham!! 049:gif
I don't see Luke Harris, scored a hattrick against Chelsea under-21, in the match against Crystal Palace U21 yesterday.
Standing in later since Muniz is away?
I will go for the traditional 1-1, as it is a derby.
Usually been more anxious on match days in the premier league past couple of occasions, but I have more excitement this time around,
I hope we get a win today, that will take a lot of the pressure off, dont want to reach 4 or 5 games without the first win, win today, unbeaten in first 3, 5 points on the board, thats a wonderful start.
COYW!
It'll be an interesting game that's for sure. Could go any which way and I'm hoping it sees us come home with our first win. That said I think Brentford will be a tough test and we'll have to really go at them and make the cottage a fortress. We need to realistically be picking up points against them.
Would like us to announce kluivert and maupay at half time. Won't happen but still.
Yes you are indeed correct, we have to make Craven Cottage a fortress, of course we are more than capable of picking up results away from home.
But if we are going to stay in The Premier League our home form and results are crucial.
My heart says 2 - 1, head is saying 1 - 1. I can't see us losing, but equally so, I can't see Brentford not scoring. Lot more confident after holding our own against Liverpool and Wolves! Trust in Marco!
It will most certainly be a game of tactics whereupon both managers will be looking to outsmart each other with systems of play and how to adjust when goals change games.
An intriguing match with a highly charged atmosphere.
It is important that we react well whether we go 1 0 or 0 1 down.
That application is crucial as it only takes a second to score a goal, and the first 90 minutes is the most important.
Would be a great win today if we can manage it, but just to play well as we did against Liverpool would show that we have it in us for the rest of the season. As usual one game at a time and some consistency is the mantra.
I feel more confident about this season in the Prem than I have the previous seasons.
COYW
Yes as you say consistency is the key in accordance with playing well, that in itself will give players confidence as they know themselves if they and the team have played well or not.

Leno in. Ruthless from Marco.
Great to see Stansfield making his full PL debut. Good luck mate.
But no Kebano in the squad. Not another injured winger surely? 🤦♂️
Luke Harris in there. The U21 hattrick hero against Chelsea.
First time Ablade has been on the bench I think.
Kebano has to have picked up a knock. But let us see how Stansfield does with his first league start.
Muniz and Bryan surely have to be on he way out, you'd expect them to make the bench today otherwise.
Would prefer Diop for Tosin
Hoping Leno has a good game, Rodak versus Leno has been a hot topic here, but now the manager has made a decision we should all get behind it. Hopefully Jay has a good game
That bench.... We need a big week transfer wise
Our squad is so thin Silva must be going nuts
Let's not pretend that this is an eleven that would even struggle in the Championship. Two players making starting Prem debuts. This isn't a thin squad this is a suicide squad.

Completely disagree. This 11 would not struggle in the championship. Yes, we are thin up top, but this isn't exactly by design, we've had injuries to two key players. We've got Kluivert and Maupay coming in, and possibly Willian on a short term deal as well. Those players plus maybe another midfielder then things are looking good. We're two games into the season and we have picked up 2 points against two top sides

If they are deemed good enough then they are old enough. Give the guys a chance. Lots on here were calling to give them a try and as soon as silva does, out come the knives. I hope they play really well and make more than one on here eat their words.
I've been very positive over the players we've brought in this summer, and to get 2 major injuries to your 2 first choice wide players is unlucky. However we currently only have 1 fit senior forward, and 1 fit wide player in the squad. We have got a run of tough games coming up after this, and could easily be 7 games without a win. More should have been done this week to give us some options
I hate this strategy of freezing out senior players who we're trying to move on. When other clubs are interested in moving a player on, they don't just ban them from the team. We have zero left-sided players on the bench, and we're relying on a bunch of under 18s who have never played a senior game in a crucial premier league match.
Meanwhile we have three senior left sided players under contract who we've just cast aside. Whilst the club are paying them and we have an injury crisis, they should be involved. This could be the perfect time to showcase them so we can get some actual decent offers. It's no wonder no club is offering money for them when it's so clear we're desperate to get rid.
It's needlessly self-destructive. We should be doing absolutely everything we can to get as many points as possible.

First time Ablade has been on the bench I think.
Kebano has to have picked up a knock. But let us see how Stansfield does with his first league start.
Muniz and Bryan surely have to be on he way out, you'd expect them to make the bench today otherwise.
didn't Muniz go up to Middlesborough for a medical?
Nothing wrong with that lineup at all. Or the bench. If Solomon and Wilson werent injured we would be saying we are have a great squad. Willian, Kluivert and Maupay in this week....calm down.

I disagree. The manager needs to pick a squad and he is choosing to work with players, including our younger players, to build for the future. The players you are referring to: Knockaert and Ivan Cav would not have done better than the players we have put out, and the results, so far, on the pitch has proven that
We whinge when we lose our kids to Liverpool coz we dont give em a chance. Then we put them in the lineup then the whingers say we have a thin lineup.... Please...

Doesn't really matter who we have got coming in. Today and for some time we have suffered from injury in our wide positions and having to put Stansfield in as a wide player from the start is clearly weakening the side. We have ONLY played two games and our subs bench is already having to have three youngsters named. If this was in the Championship we would struggle. Now if in some date in the future the squad looks better than fine. But today it looks weak and anaemic. I just hope we suffer no injury during the game and our players don't tire too badly.
Oh Mr Lighthouse returns. Nothing like doom and gloom to inspire the team eh??
Are there any streams for today's game please

Totally agree, might be good enough to beat Crawley in the week though.

In 90 mins time we will see how the team copes.
It's not the man in the fight it's the fight in the man.
Watching. soccer24HD.com. Seems ok
There's a "sticky thread" above for streams. Try soccer24hd.
That's the start we dream of we have to react positively and build on it not sit on it.
Doubled the lead with a classic header of epic proportions.

Splendid news Pereira forgives you, but an important hour coming up and if we can get a third asap that will demoralise them.
The first 90 mins is the most important, if they get a goal back then the scenario changes so we must not give them hope when there isn't any.
But so far so good and we must try and score the next goal.
We have won the first half, no reason why we cannot win the second half.

Disappointing to concede on the stroke of half time - but you are right, we should get chances in the second half.
COYW
At least we have a few Under 18s to bring on second half as we looking knackered already
Who would have thought that we could have had a few injuries !
?
I mean that was so difficult to plan for
What date is xmas this year ?
I'm enjoying listening to the Fulham fc commentary on the app at the moment

We clearly have enough quality to be competitive
We signed 1 winger already and seem close to at lwast 1 more maybe 2 why have a dig?
Plenty time to bring in more.cover no need to rush...2 points on the board and currently winning.
Currently winning but feeling a little nervous
That 24HD not working now, ah well.

Mbabu is not good going forward. He has a grand total of 5 assist and 3 goals throughout his career.
Sure got an assist against Villareal, but Tete got one against Liverpool.
Oh dear 😳

Lord knows how he hasnt assisted more from that showing. Think a lot of it is down to Mitro though, remember Lyon and Ajax fans being perplexed at Tete getting assists as well.
