Title: Onomah
Post by: JimmyConway on September 12, 2022, 10:58:46 AM
Has he been brought back into the fold? Twenty four man squad on official club team page shows him in squad. Now he might of been there along with the other three Musketeers but has him pictured with new top and though rumours of joining WBA last day of window in a round about way I like the idea of him being involved in main group and not an outcast on his own.
We would be in a pickle if somehow he was to start or even take a bench spot but like the thought he is hopefully training with the first team. Have this thought Marco would not exclude him even though his not in his plans.

I'm sure he will be if we can't shift him and Silva hasn't got his eye on another player. Personally, I'm hoping we can bring someone else in, I think Onomah lacks the urgency and pressing ability needed for our tactics, very languid player as well. Could definitely thrive in the right Championship side.

I agree with your analyst on Onomah.

Think he will be off on load to championship as soon as Jan window opens. Suspect we will sign someone like Milivojevic in his place.

I do think he needs replacing but while he is here it makes sense to keep him involved.

It must be so difficult to know you are not thought of as good enough but also unable to do anything about it.

Yes I know they are paid a fortune etc etc but that doesn't really soften the blow in these situations.

Yes, they are professional sportsmen and they have their pride. Sadly I don't think Josh has shown himself up to Prem standards and I think he needs to leave. However that doesn't stop me feeling sorry for him and others in a similar situation.

Don't understand Marco not giving him a Squad number he is hardly trouble or a bad influence.

Languid is the perfect description. Every time I see him play live, he saunters around like a stroppy teenage kid that's just be told to go and clean his room.  Awful body language and energy levels.
He'll always have that goal in the semi final though.

Marco Silva wants him to sell him at a good price, unless Onamah drops his wages then he won't be getting any free. Not giving Onamah a squad number is about convincing them to accept a club on cheap wages, rather than stay at Fulham on higher wages.

If we'd made haste with Dan James, then Onomah would have completed to WBA.

Onomah has the opportunity to build a career somewhere, but I'm afraid it won't be here.

His level is currently - at best - lower-half Championship. If he plays somewhere else, he'll have the opportunity to improve and rebuild, but if he wants a career in football he needs to swallow his pride, take a pay cut, and find his level.

Knockhart could get away with sitting on high wages as he was at the end of his career. Onomah will find himself without a club and unable to get in a Championship team if he spends another season in the reserves.

Two posts that sum the lad up.  And who should feel sorry for a guy who has been given countless opportunties to show any potential but will always be remembered for that second or so's brilliance at Cardiff.  Parker's nod to TK to sign him as a makeweight in the Ryan Sessegnon deal should not be forgotten either since he knew the guy well fom his time at Spurs.  Another painful example of how not to run a football club especially one that hasn't got money to burn.

I think something like that will happen. Although and I have to admit this won't be a popular opinion, but, if we got Jonjo Shelvey on a low fee on reasonable wages, on a short term deal then I would go for something like that. He wouldn't be a starter but he's another Cairney type option who can keep the ball moving and add goals to our midfield. Again, not necessarily saying he is the one we should go for, but we should go for a player we go plays the same role- for example, if I could pick 1 player who plays that role who I would like us to have it would be James Ward-Prowse, but again he would be expensive

I haven't spotted him in any of the recent training photos or footage, and the lack of a squad number suggests he's probably not back in the fold. If he was remotely in Marco's plans I expect he would have been in the squad for the game against Crawley at least. Perhaps there'll be an announcement that he's gone on loan abroad soon, much like Cavaleiro and Knockaert.

Personally I feel sorry for him. If the rumours about the move to WBA are true, that's going to be hard for him to take. I think he has some strong qualities. He's a frustrating player at times but I don't think it's down to poor attitude. I think the two main problems are that he is not built for speed but people expect it from him, and he often ends up spectating the game rather than involving himself in it. With a style of coaching that suits him (somebody who boosts his confidence and is in his ear all game) and a style of play that plays to his strengths, I reckon he could very good at championship level.
