Title: The Summer
Post by: Marcel_Gecov on February 02, 2023, 12:17:32 PM
Now the dust has settled over the winter window and based on the thread about contract length etc I was thinking who from our squad was most likely to either be released or sold in the summer...

Kebano - contract finishing - would love him to be extended but would understand why he wasnt.
Rodak - has said he isnt happy being second choice and I dont see how he gets in ahead of Leno so makes sense to sell him and find a free transfer as replacement.
Willian - EXTEND
Ream - EXTEND
Robinson - Id be offering him an extension now
Tosin - You know what if we could pull another Diop-level signing I think id be Ok with him leaving.

What do we think?

Pretty much as you have said I think.

There was a rumour that City were about to bid for Robinson.
If he is out of contract in the summer surely there will be a queue  at the Cottage door before the end of the season.

I don't think he is out of contract this summer, I read that there was 18 months on his.

Agree with that, but it makes for a fairly long shopping list.

GK for the bench
LB for starting 11 (Brandon Williams, Augustinsson, Jamal Lewis)
RB/LB as a sub and challenge to starters (Soares?)
CB for starting 11 (Holding, Mohammed Salisu, Lloyd Kelly, Lascelles?)
CB as 4th choice (Extend Duffy?)
CM/DCM - (Abdoulaye Doucouré, Maia, Berge, Field, Hamer, Christensen, Andre)
Winger - (Solomon already signed?)
I would also like an attacking players that can play in centrally or wide (Pulisic, Lemar, Carvalho, Sarr)

Strahinja Pavlovic for CB would be my pick. Was our best player at the WC. Tons of potential for improvement, still very young(21).

Am I just imagining it but I thought I read that Tim had already accepted a further twelve month contract? Or is it just a geriatric's memory?

Seen a few people say they'd like Anderson back at CB, what do we think?

Would love him back but no chance.

Would you have given him a contract for this season. ?

I thought Tosin was already extended?  Could be wrong on that.  And if he hasn't been extended yet, I would offer him extension.  Maybe a bit quiet this season, but he's still very young and a good CB.  Could be very instrumental next season and beyond, as Ream ages and so forth.  Could see a possible Diop Tosin back two?

Absolutely.

As SerbianLad said Strahinja Pavlovic would be a terrific pickup for a left-sided centre-back.

Agree on both fronts, though strangely Pavlovic went from Monaco to Austria league side RB Salzburg, which is an odd backward move. Anyone know why? I thought he was meant to be good!

He needs full support from his manager. If a manager trusts him like our NT coaches have done or like his coach at Salzburg does now, he's good. I think Marco is a good man manager and he would get the best out of him.

Mind you, Salzburg is a pretty decent club too. They played CL football in the last four seasons. Pavlovic, notably had a MOTM performance against Chelsea in the CL.

I did the team on the squad builder and felt we had 8 top players now at the club and our weakest spots were in CB, AM and backup striker.

I have these players being down as solid for their position in this league to very good.

Palhinha
Leno
Mitro
Willian
Solomon
Lukic (making an assumption on what i've seen and heard)
Tete
Robinson

Diop could also go in there, taking us to 9.

Pereira I rate, don't get me wrong, his work ethic is solid and he adds a great work ethis and attacking threat, but it could be improved on. Mitro is fantastic, but he needs competition and support for when he needs time to heal. Ream, having an outstanding season and is our best CB at the moment, but i'm being practical in leaving him out due to his age.

I wouldn't extend Ream's contract.

Wow, I think you might be in a tiny minority on that one.

And also kind of moot since his contract has already been extended.

I have to agree with Pereira, if he could add goals to his game he'd be a complete player. In terms of assists and creativity he's top class. I'm not one for stats but he ranks joint 4th in the PL for assists and again joint 4th for key passes, and 2nd for crosses in the PL- it speaks for itself, but he is a little shy in front of goal. He should make the list though. I personally think our wider players need to score more, we need someone with Dempsey's goals but with Willian and BDR work rate

Kebano contributed a fair number from out wide.
