Feels like we are setup for a more possession based game today, lacking our tricky wingers, but may be ideal for this match, close up the game.

It's looking more encouraging today, but as we all know goals change games.
It would be good if we can score the first and build on it.

pereira seems to be losing out a lot on 50/50's.
thats after looking quick and eager the first few minutes

looks like that link up between tc iwobi and more importantly robinson is gonna be our biggest threat.

This may be a cunning plan by Marco, but we are currently playing a little too narrow which is leaving us without an outlet on the wing.
Perhaps he feels we need plenty of traffic in the middle and therefore he may freshen it up with a wide player as legs start to tire.

Leno was probably extremely surprised at the incompetence Infront of him.

Easy save with his feet. Really poor to allow that poor shot to slip under him.

He was still moving right and feet weren't set when the shot was struck, and it handcuffed him as a result. Atypically poor from Leno.

That's now 3 goals where we've conceded right down the middle. Simple to think it's the central midfield, but in the last two (today and Berge's) Tosin has put in a half-challenge to either block the shot or block the pass. That's not to say his other moments aren't appreciated, but it's a bit of a weakness shown where he doesn't step aggressively enough. Or when he does step, he doesn't put a foot in. Last week he turned his back before Berge shot.

Piss poor.  Might go to bed - it's 3am here.

Lacking any ideas going forward.

How was Scott allowed to waltz through about 4-5 defenders.  Weak from Pereira and Joao.

BDR is NOT a PL quality player.

We've done ok(ish) Problem is we have no pace in any of our attacking positions. Every time there is a good option of a ball in behind, we are either easily beaten for pace or have to double back.

I really want to like Muniz, but he is offering nothing.

I would consider trying Wilson up front at the start of the second half. He can be moved to the wing if it doesn't work...
Title: Re: Bournemouth (A) - 26 Dec
Post by: RaySmith on December 26, 2023, 03:57:30 PM
Fairly even, but with Bournemouth starting to dominate near the end of the half, then a typically pretty soft goal, with a player waltzing though our defence, and a  bit of an error from  Leno.
I'd  just been thinking of how well we were defending!

We're struggling to break them down, and lack a cutting edge, despite all the  goals we've scored recently.

Hoping for a much better second half.
We can get something here.

Very harsh to blame Leno when he was moving across the goal to cover the shot which is low and his right foot is in the air as he is moving. It would be difficult for any keeper to react that quickly.
Title: Re: Bournemouth (A) - 26 Dec
Post by: Volz on December 26, 2023, 04:01:02 PM
I don't agree at all with BDR being the weakest link. I think he's shown good fight, and him and Tete are some of the few pairings out there that is looking like they have an understanding at the moment. That said, most everyone has been playing worse than expected. Seems to me that we are fully dependent on some constellations of players working well together and when they're not there, we create next to nothing. For instance, Robinson - Willian - Cairney - Pereira worked extremely well together. Now Willian is out, and although I love Iwobi, he's not a LW in any means. And he has no link up play with the others on that side. Muniz tries but is too often left alone. We lack any sort of creative spark, and we are missing the unpredictability of Willian a ton

Smith's goal similar to the second Burnley goal. Maybe should have been dealt with by Palhinha but he cannot do everything.
Leno not at his best but he has kept us in games for most of this, and last, season.
Hopefully Wilson will make the difference now when he comes off the bench.
Then let's hope we have a more effective incoming CF than our current three otherwise next season might be difficult.

More a Muniz just being static. How as a forward do you not understand when a player has to stretch for the cross, it means the cross will be a beat weaker. Make your run sooner and sharper to accommodate.

That's if he makes a move at all. Often Muniz just fails to anticipate any sort of ball in and is caught on his heels.

Muniz is not anticipating where the ball is landing, he is not thinking quick enough and is too far behind the ball at times.

Well given that you have to lift one foot off the floor to move across the goal if the shot had been a second later he would have been set. As it is he tried a collapsing save but couldn't get down quick enough. But it's easy to blame the keeper.

Muniz, waste of space. We need a striker, looks like we are missing our mexican man and out star midfielder is just strolling around.. maybe the exit door is open and he doesn't want to get injured.

When Bornemouth dont have the ball, they fight for it. When we dont have it, we stand and watch.

Quote from: Volz on December 26, 2023, 04:01:02 PMI don't agree at all with BDR being the weakest link.

Yet again he gives the ball away unnecessarily and allows the opposition to break, resulting in the penalty.

Of course he's not the only reason we lose but he's part of the overall problem.

Quote from: TC's Sporran on December 26, 2023, 04:15:19 PMdid muniz even move  for that tc cross?  at first i thought it was a crap cross but on rewind and replay muniz is too busy being pushed and shoved around

I agree and TC looked less than impressed.

TC threw his arms in the air and gave the midfield the hard stare after the Burnley second. Not the most inspiring captaincy you will ever see.

He's had a couple of good games but just not consistent enough. He should be controlling games against Burnley and Bournemouth but he doesn't. If we had more options he'd be back on the bench.
[/quote

hes not put a foot wrong today. rarely lost posession. hes not a magician. he needs someone to make moves to pass to. or do you expect tc to do that as well?

But that's the whole point, he should be pulling the strings and making things happen. We are playing Bournemouth not Citeh.

so when hes on the ball doesnt he need other players to make moves etc? i cant remember one time he hasnt played the best ball available. those little triangles with (willian) iwobi robinson havent happened today. name me one run that a player has made that hasnt been found. not only by cairney but any player on the pitch? weve been too one dimensional. too predictable and too boring.  far too often hes dropped back helping the ball out.  what was palhinha doing?   its almost as if raul was the light switch and weve been in the dark ever since

I find it hard to blame our manager for this, although logically he has to take his share of the blame. However I don't think he is anywhere near to matches that define his future.

Errr, Parkerball.

The difference being (IMO) this team is supposed to be better and play a better style of football.

That third goal just sums up our pathetic team....... not because of the poor defending but because NO player in white would have driven across the pitch with the ball determined to shoot!

tete and cairney share fulhams motm according to sofa score

https://www.sofascore.com/bournemouth-fulham/Tskb

however, 6 of their players got a better score.

so more than half their team were better than our best.

i read into that 9 of our players were dog ship

Absolutely pathetic, so many things wrong now where do you start to fix it.?

Start with training sessions every day, no days off. Work their asses off. Thje attitude is all wrong and clearly now we dont have anywhere near enough premier standard players.  OK we had back to back 5-0 games but it must have gone to their heads.

Probably the worst 2 games since promotion, today and Burnley.
