TC is too old, slow and kills play all too often. Shane, great servant but shouldn't anywhere near starting 11

I don't think this is the game for Cairney. Need quick players who can run at their centre backs like James did last season.

Final ball is a bit off at the moment - but we are the better team.

Main concern is Ream and TC clearly lack a bit of match sharpness and Tete being caught upfield 2 or 3 times

Look very disjointed.
Jimenez offering very little upfront. A few good passes across the six yard box early on by Robinson and no one attacked them.
Ream guilty of the odd misplaced pass/being caught of position early on too nearly gifting a goal.
The only player on the ball so far seems to be Leno who has made a handful of good saves to keep them out.

Thank goodness Maupay is not a goal scorer.

We've been battered in midfield the last 10 minutes, have kept losing the ball in really dangerous areas - Lukic and Wilson both in the last minute leading straight to chances.

Yep. He's isolated, but he's neither offering himself to hold the ball up for players to play off, not making runs into channels. Very nothing performance so far.

Andreas in at half time for me l, we need a quicker pivot at CAM than Cairney here

Very rusty but not surprising at his age coming back from a major arm injury where he hasn't been training for quite a while

Bassey likely will come in though as the game moves on and he tires... and hopefully this helps us break through their press a little

Absolutely dreadful half. Trying to find a positive. About all I can muster is Leno is amazing and we're somehow not losing. Says it all.

Andreas and Mitro quick please. Possibly even Bassey for Ream early as Tims had a bit or a mare. Please be better second half lads!

Ream was atrocious in the opening 5-10 minutes and then settled down a bit but still made mistakes even after it, Bassey should have started. Front four apart from Willian looked really poor. Reed and Lukic  struggled to control Everton's midfielders, who are more physical than the two of them, and that's a big problem as well.

Andreas and Mitro needed at half-time imo.

Need to turn things around 2nd half,  creating little up front and we are missing Palhinha badly.

Saw there was more Mitro news today-- they need to put a line through this,  either he's here and committed or he's off and we plan for life without him, i feel like the disruption isnt helping the team at all.

Lots of the ball but did nothing with it. Leno is god, def backing into him for the disallowed goal.
Our passing is great until the final third and then we can't string two together. Ream looks rusty, Bassey should have started. At least it's still 0-0.

I don't understand the thought process in picking Cairney and Ream. They're tooo slow, whether it's an age or fitness issue. Bassey has been playing as first choice since he signed, why isn't he playing.

Reed and Lukic in midfield just isn't dynamic enough, neither are offering anything.

Willian and Wilson have zero pace.

We're too easy to play against, which is a real worry. Everton should be out of sight.

Disagree. He looks way off the pace at the moment. Struggling to complete passes, especially out to AR. Out of position or slow to react on several Everton counters. Maybe Bassey is unfit, but Marco screwed this selection up. Ream doesn't look ready for the season.

Everyone except Leno looks really poor today. Hard to find cause and effect when everything looks poor.

No real need to single TC and Ream out, simple passes misplaced by everyone all over the pitch. Our right side with Tete, Reed and Wilson looks atrocious, the left side just a little better. The middle is non existent.

All the doom mongers should however remember that it is the first game of the season. All these players, including Ream and TC has shown plenty of times that they are good enough for this division, and neither of those two have ever relied in the slightest on speed. I suggest we tone down the hyperbole a couple of notches.

Just my two cent.

Quote from: Sting of the North on August 12, 2023, 04:04:37 PMEveryone except Leno looks really poor today.

Just my two cent.

first 5 mins of second half tc looking assured on the ball using it wisely keeping possession and quickly playing teammates in with cute passes.

He's not well suited to covering Paulinha's role. Needs to be playing further forward as he did at Torino

One smart thing Everton have done, is that they're crossing from deeper. They know Tete and Robinson are so good at closing the player down, so they're not trying to get to the byline and cross, they're instead pulling the ball back to a deeper player to hit the cross in.

All the subs made a big difference

Bring on the reinforcements this week to add some offensive weapons, bring back Palhinha and well be just fine this year.

GET IN!!!!!

How the F we have won that game I don't know (well I do - Leno).

Looked loads better with Andreas and Mitro. We just have to not sell him no matter what.

Absolutely brilliant from Andreas on the goal.

Clear hand ball for our pen. How is that any different to the infamous Man U match? Arm in almost exactly the same position!!! Having said that the Leno one was very fortunate first half. Hiya his arm so can argue it but he didn't really do anything. Perhaps even on that then.

HUGE 3 points after a nightmare summer, a terrible first half and with three tough games to come really takes the pressure off. God I love this team...no matter what we always manage to pull something out the bag when we need it. Get in Fulham
