Stansfield set to stay at Fulham
Jay Stansfield appears to set to stay with Fulham this season rather than head on loan after impressing Marco Silva during pre-season.
The 20 year-old forward, who was an unused substitute at Goodison Park as the Whites started their Premier League campaign with a win over Everton on Saturday, spent last term on loan at his boyhood club Exeter City, where he scored nine goals and contributed eight assists as the Grecians finished fourteenth on their return to League One. City were keen to take Stansfield on another loan and several Championship clubs, including Reading, were also interested in signing the Tiverton-born attacker, but the Sunday Mirror sports editor Darren Witcoop has suggested he will be staying at Craven Cottage.
Stansfield, who has made eight first-team appearances since moving to Fulham in 2019, featured in all four of Fulham's pre-season friendlies and is already a favourite of Silva's – having been handed a Premier League debut at the start of last season. The youngster's eagerness to learn and his versatility – displayed during an eye-catching first top flight start on the right flank in the 3-2 win over Brentford at Craven Cottage last August – have again impressed the Fulham coaching staff. The apparent decision to retain him as part of the first-team squad is a vote of confidence in Stansfield's ability as the Whites recently strengthened both at centre forward, having signed Raúl Jiménez, and out wide, with Adama Troaore completing his move to SW6 on Saturday.

Fulham Rumour Round-Up: Miranda, Gnonto, Sensi
Adama Traore was going to be included within this week's rumour round-up but he slipped through the net during drafting. Blame it on the baby oil. Traore is a hugely intense attacker; on the surface it doesn't appear as though there's much method to the bulky Spaniard's madness but you cannot deny that he is a menace that frightens defenders shitless. For free, at 27 years of age, he is an unreal addition.
Our latest transfer edition isn't a bumper supplement, however it's far from slim pickings. Those highlighted below are showstoppers, stand-outs, they carry differing roles and responsibilities but if we're able to land either of the quartet, we'd be strengthening our ranks indefinitely and that is what we're all here for. Crack on.
Juan Miranda – Real Betis
Though Calvin Bassey relocated from Ajax to SW6 earlier this summer, Fulham are apparently still after another left-sided defensive recruit and Real Betis's Juan Miranda – relayed by TEAMtalk – is being monitored by the Whites. Miranda is entering the final year of his contract at La Liga outfit and Fulham are hopeful of potentially nabbing him for a discounted price. Honing his skills at FC Barcelona's famed La Masia academy, Miranda, 23, joined Los Verdiblancos permanently from Barca in 2021 following a successful 2020/21 campaign on loan at the Estadio Benito Villamarin.
In 31 outings for Betis last season, the one-time Spain international recorded three goals and five assists, which is indicative of his progressive nature from the back. Miranda played second fiddle to Alex Moreno before the fellow Spaniard relocated to Aston Villa midway through the 2022/23 season and as he's now his club's first-choice, it'll be tough to convince him to depart, especially if he has to dislodge an ever-improving Antonee Robinson. Just ask El Glorioso super fan Jack Collins.
Wilfred Gnonto – Leeds United
Leeds United hotshot Wilfred Gnonto is poised for an exit this summer and speaking to GIVEMESPORT, well-known transfer informant Dean Jones revealed that as well as Everton and West Ham United and Aston Villa, Fulham are also in the mix for the highly-rated 19-year-old winger. Leeds were relegated to the Championship last season and Gnonto was a stand-out performer for them, having dispatched four goals and four assists in 28 Premier League appearances.
There's tangible unrest surrounding the young Italian's future at Elland Road and in relation to the apparent obscurity, Jones revealed: "He could be an option for West Ham, while Everton like him, and I've heard him mentioned as someone Fulham have had half an eye on too, while they look to recruit a creative player if Callum Hudson-Odoi was to fall flat.
"Aston Villa have been offered the chance to sign him and are making a decision on that at the moment."
It's thought Gnonto is valued at £20m by Leeds, and for a player of his age and obvious ability, that's a very shallow estimation given the player's sell-on potential as well.
Ismail Jakobs – AS Monaco
Left-backs are definitely the flavour of the week for Fulham because according to the Daily Mail, Fulham will supposedly contest Nottingham Forest for AS Monaco's Ismail Jakobs. Formerly of Bundesliga side 1. FC Koln, the 23-year-old was purchased by Monaco in 2021 and he has since become a regular starter for the Ligue 1 competitors.
A fully-fledged Senegal international, Jakobs has participated at an elite standard for a number of years in Both Germany and France and he'd certainly keep Robinson on his toes. An asking price hasn't been cited but if negotiations were to be activated between the Whites and Les Rouge et Blanc, I'm sure a reasonable arrangement could be met between all involved parties and in terms of suitability and depth, Jakobs ticks all the necessary boxes.
Stefano Sensi – Inter Milan
Disclosed by Inter Xtra, with credit to FCInter1908's Daniele Vitiello, Bologna, Genoa and Fulham are seemingly tracking Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi, who spent the 2022/23 season on loan at AC Monza. There really isn't a lot to back up this claim, the validity of the rumour is shady but nonetheless, it's a slim prospect that's intriguing.
Bought by Inter in 2019 from Sassuolo, Sensi, 28, hasn't been able to guarantee a spot in his employers' seasonal plans. The Italian's been loaned out his former club as well as Sampdoria and while he has in fact amassed 52 appearances for Nerazzurri, the San Siro may not be his rightful home after all. Sensi has 9 caps for Italy, as well as three international goals, so he's an individual that tried and tested at various levels of the game, from Serie A to the Champions League, too.

Fulham Face Al-Hilal's Renewed Bid for Mitrovic
A New Chapter for Mitrovic?
Mitrovic's Success at Fulham
Aleksandar Mitrovic's time with Fulham has been filled with monumental highs. This Serbian striker, instrumental in Fulham's return to the Premier League in 2022, scored a record 43 goals to seal their promotion back to the top flight. Continuing his sensational form into the Premier League, Mitrovic netted 14 times, enabling Fulham to finish in the top half of the table last season.
"The club are getting fair money for me after rejected several bids over £30 million," said Mitrovic, acknowledging that he has significantly contributed to the club's recent success.
Al-Hilal's Renewed Interest
Despite initial setbacks, Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal has revived its interest in Mitrovic, envisioning him linking up with Neymar in a potentially mouth-watering partnership reveal Daily Mail. Al-Hilal's previous attempts to secure Mitrovic earlier this summer were rebuffed by Fulham. The forward reportedly vowed, "I would never play for the club again," but following a cooling period, he returned to training at the end of July and made a successful appearance in their Premier League opening weekend win over Everton.
Fulham's New Arrival
In other news from the club, Fulham has agreed to sign free agent winger Adama Traore, who will now settle in London as the Premier League season gets underway. The forward had been seeking a new club all summer after rejecting a contract extension at Wolves.
Conclusion
The future of Mitrovic at Fulham remains an engaging story, with both successes at the club and potential moves to Al-Hilal dominating the headlines. As the story unfolds, fans and pundits alike will be watching closely. Mitrovic's next move could shape the next chapter in both his career and Fulham's season.

Gritty away wins are glorious
Perhaps it is because I grew following Fulham from well outside London, but I still feel like you can't beat a good away day. Saturday was no different. A trip to Liverpool, where there's history, music and plenty of inviting hostelries on offer, was perfect and it immediately reminded us of that wonderful day when Marco Silva's side dismantled the Toffees to end a five-match winless streak in April. The Whites might not have supplemented their squad in the manner that Silva sought over the summer but the quality of last season's football meant the black and white army made the journey to Merseyside in good heart.
Somewhat preposterously for those of us who followed Fulham's pre-Josh Maja struggles to win on the blue half of Merseyside, the Whites came in hope of a third consecutive victory at Goodison Park. The sun shone, in defiance of a weather forecast that promised much more rain than actually fell and after celebrating the Lionesses' progression to the World Cup semi-finals, I sauntered through Stanley Park excited at a first chance to see Silva's side in competitive action for a few months. The teamsheet that dropped at the same time offered a couple of surprises: Tim Ream was back at the heart of the defence before Calvin Bassey's excellent pre-season, Tom Cairney lined up in the number ten role and Raúl Jiménez got his Fulham debut ahead of Aleksandar Mitrovic, who began on the bench.
The first half was the sort of nervy affair we've become used to watching when following Fulham to Goodison Park. Where the Whites looked ponderous and, in some cases, very rusty, Everton were eager and full of power. Sean Dyche's flooding of the midfield not only blocked off the spaces into which we were looking to pass but posed problems going the other way as well. Fortunately, Everton's best chances fell to people who had forgotten their shooting boots. Frank Lampard famously persuaded Neal Maupay to pick the Toffees over Fulham and the Frenchman wasted a golden chance to give the hosts the lead inside the first 50-odd seconds before Bernd Leno made the first of several superb saves to thwart Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The Evertonians, including Dyche, were very vexed about the decision to disallow Michael Keane's 'goal' for a foul on Leno by James Tarkowski. The pundits have become particularly exercised about this, but he had no intention of playing the ball, which then struck his hand, and rebound to Keane, who was in an offside position. There has been next to no analysis of Tarkowski's other handball – when he blocked a goalbound shot from Mitrovic – and it can't be because there is a lack of column inches to devote to the return of Premier League football. Still, Fulham were fortunate to be level at half time.
Silva's side had played plenty of pretty, passing football, but lacked any vitality in the final third. Everton stifled the creativity of the Fulham wingers, whilst Cairney and Jiménez, didn't exactly gel in their first 45 minutes. The head coached hooked Willian at half time and the introduction of Bobby Decordova-Reid was a masterstroke. Our brilliant Bobby Dazzler has made a virtue of being ready to fill any role within the team and it was very fitting that he finished off a flowing move that also involved two other substitutes, Andreas Pereira and Mitrovic. The three of them enlivened Fulham to such a degree that we briefly looked like killing the game off, with Decordova-Reid and Mitrovic spurning good chances to double the lead.
It was a testament to how Fulham's dictation of the game had improved, with Sasa Lukic having a very good second half, that Everton's prolonged spells of pressure produced little in the way of clear cut chances. The biggest let off came when Nathan Patterson, who had lost Decordova-Reid for the Fulham goal, smacked a follow-up against the crossbar when it looked easier to score after Leno had palmed away Alex Iwobi's effort. The moment where my heart sunk was seeing Mitrovic on the floor in the Everton box minutes after his arrival – but we've now learned that was just an ankle sprain.
In stark contrast to how the match started, with Tim Ream making a succession of errors that led to Everton openings, Fulham saw out the six added minutes with little drama. Issa Diop and Ream improved as the afternoon went on – as did the whole of the team – and we were able to serenade man of the match Leno with his song after the final whistle. There was no doubt this was a gritty, and undeserved away win, but I'll happily endorse further Fulham robberies over the course of the season. Good sides win when facing adversity and this particular victory will do plenty for the squad's confidence. As someone who has had to take solace in other aspects of a weekend following Fulham away, I'll never sniff at returning to London with three points in the bag.

Fulham man expected to join Exeter City on loan, says journalist
Exeter City are expected to complete the loan signing of Fulham's Luke Harris, says journalist Darren Witcoop.
Harris, 18, is a product of the Fulham youth academy. The Welsh U19 midfielder has three Premier League appearances to his name for the London club, with all three of which coming in the 2022/23 season.
But now it looks like the Jersey-born youngster will head out on loan, with a move to League One side Exeter City on the cards.
Witcoop says that Harris is expected to join the Grecians on loan and that Fulham and Exeter have built a decent relationship following Fulham striker Jay Stansfield's successful loan spell at the club last time round.
Exeter have already signed players on loan from Aston Villa, Brentford, and Chelsea this summer, with their positive summer business having made for a good start to the season.
Gary Caldwell's side have taken four points from their opening two league games, now finding themselves in 7th place of the table and without conceding a goal in the league so far.

Harris set for Exeter loan switch
Fulham academy star Luke Harris is poised to join League One Exeter City on loan, according to the Sunday Mirror's sport news editor Darren Witcoop.
The two clubs reportedly agreed a deal for the teenager to spent the season at St. James' Park earlier this summer and Harris, who has made five first-team appearances for Fulham, was not involved in Saturday's 1-0 win at Everton. The Welsh creative midfielder made his senior debut in the League Cup at Crawley Town last August before being handed a first Premier League appearance as a substitute in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Craven Cottage two months later. He also came off the bench at Manchester City and Crystal Palace and started the 3-2 FA Cup third round replay win at Sunderland. Harris has continued to feature for Fulham's under 21s whilst training with the senior side and his development has seen him fast tracked into Rob Page's senior Welsh squad, although the 18 year-old has yet to make his international debut.
Fulham are keen for Harris to play regular first-team football this season and are prepared to hand one of their brightest young prospects to Exeter after Jay Stansfield's successful return to the Grecians last year. The classy playmaker could complete his switch to the South West this week, although City face a race against team to try and get him registered for Tuesday night's trip to Portsmouth.

Exeter City Set To Land Midfielder From Premier League Club
Exeter City are set to land midfielder Luke Harris on loan from Premier League side Fulham, according to Darren Witcoop.
The 18-year-old is understood to be departing Fulham in an attempt to gain experience having been in the Fulham academy his entire career. He primarily plays as an attacking midfielder but has filled in at times as part of a midfield two as well as being moved to the left-hand side.
The League One side started the 23/24 campaign in the perfect way, thrashing a poor Wycombe Wanderers side 3-0 whilst also failing to convert a penalty. They then beat League Two relegation favourites Crawley Town 2-1 in the EFL Cup.
In their third game of the season they came up against Neil Critchley's Blackpool, in a game that would end goalless despite Exeter holding superior possession and shots.
Harris could present a risk for the club, at 18 years old he has yet to experience senior men's football. Being thrown into the middle of an intense and competitive League One campaign could be a "sink or swim" moment for the youngster. Gary Caldwell could opt to either utilise him as a back up or use him sporadically whilst he gets up to speed in the league.

Exeter City blew away Wycombe in the opening fixture and secured an impressive 0-0 draw against Blackpool who will be hoping for a promotion push this season. Could Exeter be a dark horse for a potential play off push?
The loan market presents a challenge for recruitment staff. Often, clubs will commit to game time or make promises over a player who may not quite be ready to step up to the men's game. However, when it does go well, it allows a club to secure a talent that they wouldn't normally be able to afford.

Fulham signing Adama Traore hoping to reignite Raul Jimenez spark at Craven Cottage
New Fulham new signing Adama Traore believes he can strike up a fruitful partnership with Raul Jimenez after being reunited with his former Wolves team-mate at Craven Cottage.
Traore joined Fulham on a free transfer over the weekend after Jimenez made a £5million switch from Wolves over the summer.
"I'm grateful to be here and hungry to start," said Traore.
"I like the club, and I also have information from Raul. He seems to like the club, the manager and the team.
"My relationship with Raul has been amazing. We have a good friendship and connection on the pitch."
Traore added: "It's a nice opportunity for me, another chapter. I'm excited and hungry to give 100 per cent here.
"I've scored against Fulham. Now I will score for Fulham. For sure, I would like to stay for a long time. I'm ready to start when the gaffer needs me."
Fulham's director of football operations Tony Khan said: "He's an explosive and powerful winger with great pace, and he has tremendous experience in the Premier League.
"He's a player with whom we are very familiar and he's been on the opposing side of our team on numerous occasions. I believe that he'll be a great addition to the squad."

QPR make Jay Stansfield enquiry as Championship clubs take interest in Fulham striker
The 20-year-old starred on loan at his boyhood club Exeter City last season
Queens Park Rangers are one of four Championship clubs hoping to sign Fulham striker Jay Stansfield on loan for the season.
Stansfield, 20, was first included in Fulham's first-team squad in the 2019-20 season and has made eight appearances for the club, including scoring against Birmingham in the Carabao Cup in August 2021.
The son of former Exeter striker Adam, Stansfield began his career in the Grecians academy. After making three appearances in the Premier League for Fulham early last season, he returned to Exeter on loan and scored nine goals in 36 matches in League One.
Stansfield is now back at Fulham but Standard Sport understands the striker is actively looking for another loan move this season — and the Cottagers are willing to grant him one if the right proposal comes up.
The former England Under-20s international has received at least four offers from Championship sides, with QPR one of the clubs interested in a season-long loan.
QPR sit 16th in the table two games into the 2023-24 Championship season, having lost 4-0 at Watford before beating Cardiff 2-1 on Saturday.
Scotland international Lyndon Dykes, 20-year-old Sinclair Armstrong and American Charlie Kelman are the only registered strikers in QPR's first-team squad.

Fulham Star Very Close To Sealing Exit
Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal are getting very close to capturing Fulham frontman Aleksander Mitrovic in the ongoing transfer window, it has been claimed in Italy.
The Saudi Arabian outfit have already secured Sergej Milinkovic-Savic earlier this summer and now they are focusing on his international team-mate Mitrovic.
They approached the Craven Cottage outfit earlier in the window for the Serbian forward, however, the Premier League outfit refused to sell.
Mitrovic came on as a substitute in their league win against Everton on Saturday even though he vowed to never play for the club again for rejecting offers from the Saudi outfit.
Now according to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia, Al Hilal are closing in on signing the Fulham star in the upcoming days.
Mitrovic played a pivotal role in Marco Silva's team last season, where he made 19 goal contributions in 28 appearances.
It has been suggested that the Serbian has already agreed on personal terms with the Saudi Club.
Now it remains to be seen if the Cottagers will go for any other forward as they have already secured the signing of Raul Jimenez from Wolves.

Al-Hilal prepare fresh Aleksandar Mitrovic offer in bid to pair Fulham star with Neymar
Al-Hilal are set to improve their offer for Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic as they close in on the signing of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar.
The Serbian striker, 28, wants to move to Saudi Arabia and has already agreed personal terms on a contract which would triple his £120,000-a-week wages at Craven Cottage.
Mitrovic is frustrated having so far been priced out of a move to Al-Hilal with the Cottagers asking for £50m after turning down a £35m offer last month.
Al-Hilal walked away from talks but, having made the breakthrough to sign Neymar from PSG for around £80m, have again restarted talks to bring in a forward alongside him.
Mitrovic has reassured his suitors that he has avoided injury despite being pictured arriving back in London on crutches after his substitute appearance in the 1-0 win over Everton on Saturday.
Neymar's arrival only enhances the appeal of a move to the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Hilal keen to secure the Brazil international on a two-year deal in time to face Al-Fayha on Saturday.
The 31-year-old will reportedly earn £2.5m-a-week and wear the No10 shirt.
He joins Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves and ex-Barcelona winger Malcom as the latest marquee signing at Asian football's most decorated club.

Former League One Striker Wanted By QPR And Three Other Clubs
Former Exeter City loanee Jay Stansfield is a transfer target for Championship side Queens Park Rangers as well as three other clubs, according to the Evening Standard.
Stansfield spent most of last season on loan at his boyhood club in St James Park and scored nine goals in 39 appearances in all competitions before returning to Premier League side Fulham this summer.
However, the Cottagers are willing to allow the 20-year-old to head back out on loan this season, with QPR said to be leading the race for his signature.
Standard Sport are also claiming that the London club are one of four Championship sides pursuing the youngster in the hopes of completing a deal before the transfer window shuts in little over two weeks.
In a contrasting report, journalist Darren Witcoop has revealed that Stansfield may be asked to stay at Craven Cottage as Luke Harris is heading out on loan to Exeter City instead.
Bolstering QPR's attack
QPR have had a peculiar start to the season, getting thumped 4-0 at home against Watford in what was quite a worrying display before going to Cardiff City and taking all three points with a 2-1 win.
Gareth Ainsworth's side are a little short up top currently. Sinclair Armstrong, Scotland international Lyndon Dykes and Charlie Kelman are the only names on the books right now.
Armstrong scored his first goal for the club at the weekend in Wales while Dykes penned a new deal back in June. Nevertheless, Ainsworth is still looking to bolster his striker department ahead of what could be a gruelling season in England's second tier.
Writer's View
Stansfield coped quite well with the trials and tribulations of League One, bagging nine times in 36 appearances in the third division.
Now, though, it's time that the Exeter City academy star tries his hand in an even tougher league, although this depends on whether or not Fulham head coach Marco Silva will sanction a loan spell anymore given the loss of Luke Harris.

Fulham star reaches 'total agreement' to leave Craven Cottage – Clubs in 'final discussion' to close deal
Following a rather lengthy summer saga, it seems Aleksandar Mitrovic is ready to leave Fulham.
Journalist Gianluigi Longari reports that the striker now has a 'total agreement' with Al-Hilal.
The Saudi side are now said to be in talks with Fulham to close the deal.
For now, there's no information on how much the Whites are about to get with the sale.
Mitrovic is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €28m, and has a contract with Fulham running until 2026.
The talks seem to have developed a lot today, as just hours before, Longari had already published a report claiming the deal was 'very close' to take place.
Fulham signed Mitrovic on a loan deal from Newcastle United in January 2018, and then made the move permanent that summer, spending €24.7m on the purchase.
In his time with the Whites, he had 111 goals and 22 assists in 206 appearances, and became a crucial piece in Marco Silva's side.
However, with the striker clearly looking for a next challenge, it was even claimed he got offered to Inter Milan this summer, but now it seems Saudi Arabia will really be his destination.

'Might have actually' - Dermot Gallagher gives Everton v Fulham penalty verdict
Everton's disallowed goal was a hugely controversial moment and it gave Fulham the opportunity to go on and win the game.
Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has commented on Everton's penalty situation that took place during their 1-0 loss to Fulham over the weekend.
Everton were heavily frustrated by Marco Silva's side, as they spurned numerous golden opportunities to take all three points on the opening weekend of the Premier League.
There were chances for Neal Maupay, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Nathan Patterson that stood out as Sean Dyche's side racked up an expected goal total of 2.93 - a figure that was higher than any other team from last season without scoring.
But the most frustrating part was clearly their disallowed goal, as James Tarkowski was penalised for seemingly doing little wrong. Bernd Leno jumped to catch the ball as the defender held his ground, the German keeper dropped the ball and Keane was on hand to fire it in, but it was ruled out nonetheless - much to the annoyance of every blue in Goodison Park.
Fulham penalty explained
Speaking on Sky Sports Ref Watch, he believes that despite the clear 'harsh' foul we see, Michael Keane may have been offside anyway.
"They might have actually got to the right decision (but via the wrong means). I think it's a very harsh foul but if you watch, the guy who scores is actually offside. So if the referee hadn't whistled, it would have been given offside by VAR."
Also on hand to offer their opinion was former Premier League defender Stephen Warnock: "I was furious when I saw it because I thought the goalkeeper was being looked after again. Hopefully, they learn from that because it wasn't a foul."
Former England international Sue Smith also weighed in on the situation: "It wasn't a foul. Leno goes over the top of him and drops the ball. What else could Tarkowski have done? But now you've convinced me so I have no argument!"
Sean Dyche's reaction
The Everton manager was furious with the decision, as he feels it cost his side a precious win at the start of the new campaign.
His frustrations were clear to see speaking post-match, especially given that his side created the best chances:
"I think VAR (Video Assistant Referee) is there to make sure that doesn't go the wrong way because our defender has done nothing," a frustrated Dyche told BBC Sport. "Tarky (Tarkowski) just stands there, the keeper catches it and drops it on his head.
"He did not try to impede him, it bounces out of his (Leno's) hands, we score and bizarrely they get a foul. That is the modern game - you touch a keeper and it is a foul."

Liverpool can still seek ace who went one better than Moisés Caicedo if FSG bends transfer rule
With Liverpool failing to land the signature of Moisés Caicedo ahead of Chelsea, FSG could explore a wildcard option that goes against its usual transfer rules.
Over the course of the past few weeks, Jürgen Klopp has been on the hunt for a new number six after he decided to let Fabinho and Jordan Henderson move to Saudi Arabia. After making progress in his search, he essentially returned to square one on Monday morning. The German boss identified Moisés Caicedo as his man, bidding $139m (£110m/€128m) for his services last week, but a move has now collapsed.
Brighton and Hove Albion accepted the offer, but rivals Chelsea refused to be beaten in the battle for his signature, with the Blues managing to raise slightly more in order to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer. Caicedo was the man that Liverpool wanted, but Klopp is now going to have to look elsewhere as he struggles to fill his midfield void.
It remains to be seen who will end up replacing Fabinho, but with the transfer window due to close in around two weeks, FSG are working against the clock. The market for holding midfielders is small right now, which is why Liverpool could be forced to explore a curveball option such as João Palhinha.
The Portuguese midfielder was a relatively unknown quantity around 12 months ago, having just experienced a prosperous campaign with Sporting. It was Fulham who recognized his ability on the field, with fellow countryman Marco Silva making him his marquee summer signing.
Palhinha made the switch to England and quickly established himself as a real fulcrum for the Cottagers. In fact, his Premier League debut was against Liverpool, and he made his presence known by dominating the middle of the park and helping Fulham secure a surprising 2-2 draw.
Over the course of the campaign, Palhinha continued to impress, eventually becoming regarded as one of the best players on English shores on the defensive side of the game. He is the type of player who is inclined to drift under the radar without grabbing the headlines, but while always being a positive contributor.
Indeed, he posted more tackles and interceptions than any player in the whole of the Premier League last term, ahead of Chelsea-bound Caicedo in second. Palhinha painted himself as a real destructive type at Craven Cottage, but one who can also play with the ball at his feet.
Klopp was keen to control him when Liverpool faced Fulham at Anfield earlier this year, and he said as much after the bout. Darwin Núñez was tasked with sticking to him when the Reds had to defend, but he often got distracted.
"You could see in the beginning, defending the center against Fulham is really important because Palhinha is there and that is their connector, get [him] on the ball. We were a bit too early out there from Darwin, we tried to fix that, but he wanted to go for everybody and was like a racehorse."
The big problem attached to his profile is his age, as he's now 28 years old, with Liverpool and FSG usually favoring players who are aged 26 or under. That major downside perhaps explains why Klopp targeted Caicedo instead, who is still just 21.
However, it is worth noting that despite his age, Palhinha hasn't played a great deal of football across his career, meaning his legs could be fresher than expected. He's only managed to accumulate roughly 16,500 minutes on the pitch at club level, meaning he's played around half as much as Fabinho, who is less than two years older.
At the time of his departure, Fabinho had around 37,000 minutes in his legs at club level, with Manchester United's Casemiro — who is regarded as one of the best — now on around 33,000 club minutes at the age of 31. Palhinha, although he isn't particularly young, still has plenty left in the tank in comparison.
The Portuguese international is injured right now but despite his fitness setback, Liverpool could take a gamble on him as Klopp struggles to replace Fabinho at Anfield. Palhinha has the qualities to transform the ability of a team on the defensive side of the game, and he could be attainable in the coming weeks.
As a wildcard option, the Fulham kingpin is lying in wait. FSG just need to bend their usual transfer criteria.

Super Eagles defender Bassey returns to Ajax seventeen days after transfer to Fulham
Calvin Bassey returned to the Netherlands on Monday, August 14, seventeen days after Fulham officially announced the signing of the Nigeria international.
Ajax Amsterdam confirmed through social media this afternoon that Bassey was present at the Sportcomplex De Toekomst for the practice match against Go Ahead Eagles.
The video shared by Ajax showed Bassey having a light-hearted discussion with Ajax U21 manager Dave Vos and assistant trainer of Jong Ajax, Urby Emanuelson.
It is not yet known the real reason behind Bassey's trip to the Netherlands.
The Leicester City academy product could not make his Premier League debut at the weekend as he remained rooted to the bench during Fulham's impressive 1-0 road win against Everton.
Issa Diop partnered Tim Ream in central defence, with Antonee Robinson slotting in at left-back for the entirety of the game.
Bassey has signed a four-year contract with Fulham, with a club option to extend by a further 12 months, and has been allocated the number 3 jersey for the 2023-2024 campaign.
In total, Bassey logged 39 appearances for Ajax, scoring one goal and producing five assists.

Romelu Lukaku is in limbo, Hakim Ziyech doesn't have a squad number and Callum Hudson-Odoi is a Fulham target: Deadwood Chelsea are STILL looking to shift as Moises Caicedo signs for £115m
Chelsea are closing in on a £1bn net spent since Todd Boehly's takeover last year
The slew of new arrivals have left a number of players heading for the exit
The imminent arrival of Moises Caicedo at Stamford Bridge marks just the latest high-profile addition to the club since Todd Boehly's takeover last year.
Having twice broken the British record transfer fee, Chelsea are careering towards a £1b transfer spend across the last three windows, with further new arrivals still expected this summer. Romeo Lavia, like Caicedo, has reportedly snubbed a move to Liverpool in favour of a switch to Stamford Bridge.
The challenge for Mauricio Pochettino in his first campaign at the helm remains finding a consistent core that he can build from, with Sunday's 1-1 draw against Liverpool offering positive signs for the season to come.
While the long-term contracts and seemingly infinite resources have allowed the Blues to recruit to their heart's content, the sheer number of new arrivals has left several top stars unlikely to feature this season and in desperate need of a move away.
One only needs to look at Romelu Lukaku's situation to understand just how seismic the upheaval at the club has been in recent years.
The Belgian's return in the summer of 2021 for a club-record £98m fee was heralded as a statement of intent from Thomas Tuchel's Champions League winners as they looked to build on their success on the continent.
Just 24 months later Lukaku finds himself an outcast at Cobham, banished from training with the first-team despite the once highly-coveted striker's next move appearing increasingly unclear.
A permanent return to Inter Milan once appeared his most likely destination, but the striker's reported preference for a move to Serie A rivals Juventus ultimately failed to endear him to either sets of supporters.
But the 30-year-old isn't the only player in danger of being lost in the shuffle of Pochettino's bloated squad.
Like the former Man United star Hakim Ziyech was also left out of the club's pre-season tour of the USA with a departure expected to follow imminently.
Despite being surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, Ziyech's move to join Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane at Al-Nassr that would've seen him net £9m-a-year collapsed when the Saudi Pro League club raised concerns following the discovery of a knee problem during his medical.
A £33m arrival just two years ago, the 30-year-old Morocco international's future now appears increasingly unclear, with his issues further compounded by reports that his £360,000 Mansory Rolls-Royce Cullinan suffered severe damage after crashing into a row of bicycles following a collision with another vehicle. Though reports claimed that he was not in the car.

Callum Hudson-Odoi(left) and Trevor Chalobah(right) have been linked with moves to Serie A, though the former is closing in on a £4.5m move to Fulham
Conor Gallagher has been repeatedly linked with a move to both West Ham and Tottenham this summer, with the imminent arrival of Caicedo only likely to push the former Crystal Palace loanee further down the Pochettino's midfield pecking order.
The 23-year-old did start, and produced a solid performance against Liverpool though, and reports suggest that he may remain at the club that he joined aged just 8 in a bid to fight for his place in the squad.
Meanwhile Malang Sarr departed Chelsea on loan to Monaco last summer, with the deal including an option for the Ligue 1 side to purchase the defender permanently this summer for £10m.
However, injuries meant the the 24-year-old spent the back end of last season on the sidelines and was limited to just eight starts with little indication of where he will ply his trade this season.
At least some exits should prove to be more straightforward.
After 15 years with the Blues since emerging from the club's youth academy, Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to depart this summer amid interest from Fulham, Lazio and multiple Saudi clubs.
Fellow former youth star Trevoh Chalobah is also expected to seek pastures new this summer, despite enjoying his most prolific campaign for the club last season, making 33 appearances in all competitions.
Despite having five-and-a-half years left on his current deal with the club, Chalobah has attracted interest from Serie A, and reports have linked the 23-year-old to a £25m move to Inter Milan this summer.
Marc Cucurella arrived at Stamford Bridge for £62m amid much fanfare last summer, but despite reuniting with former Brighton boss Graham Potter struggled as the club limped to a worst Premier League finish in nearly three decades.
The Spain international remained on the bench for the club's Premier League opener, and with Eddie Howe insistent on desiring another defender before the window closes a loan move to Newcastle appears increasingly likely.

Sources: Fulham 'confident' of Mitrovic U-turn after Saudi Arabia update
Fulham are determined to keep star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer despite overtures from mega-rich Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, sources have told Football Insider.
A well-placed source has revealed the Londoners are "confident" of keeping the 28-year-old after his substitute cameo against Everton on Saturday (12 August).
Mitrovic played 32 minutes despite reportedly vowing he would never take to the field for Fulham again after Al-Hilal's early-window bids were rejected.
Cottagers boss Marco Silva has praised the Serbia international's commitment in recent days, claiming he is still giving "100 per cent" for the club.
Al-Hilal, who are close to signing Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar, remain interested in Mitrovic with untold riches at their disposal to lure him to the Middle East.
But it is believed Silva remains hopeful and confident of reintegrating the former Newcastle star fully into the squad after his appearance against Everton.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that "everyone in the club is determined to keep the player" and hope to "win him round" between now and the 1 September deadline.
Mitrovic joined Fulham in 2018 on an initial loan deal before making a permanent switch for a reported fee of around £27million.
He netted 15 strikes last season as Silva's side consolidated their Premier League status with a 10th-place finish.
The talisman has since netted 111 goals in 205 outings since joining Fulham, and has offered up a further 22 assists.

Fulham holding firm on Mitrovic
Fulham are prepared to resist the latest Saudi Arabian interest in Aleksandar Mitrovic – and are confident that Marco Silva's reintegration of the Serbian striker into the first team squad has been so successful that he is prepared to stay at Craven Cottage.
The 28 year-old was the subject of two failed bids from Al Hilal earlier in the summer and, initially trained on his own during Fulham's pre-season tour of America, after the Saudi Pro League side failed to match the Whites' £52m asking price. Al Hilal, rumoured to be close to signing Brazilian forward Neymar, are said to be keen on returning with an improved offer for Mitrovic in the coming days – but their current proposals are understood to still fall short of Fulham's valuation.
Fulham believe they remain in a strong negotiating position over Mitrovic's future. The striker, who came off the bench on Saturday to play a pivotal part in the opening day win over Everton, retains a strong relationship with Marco Silva – who rejected repeated approaches from Al Hilal and other Saudi Arabian sides to stay in SW6 this summer – and is under contract at the Cottage until 2026.
The Londoners are concentrating on adding to Silva's weeks in the final fortnight of the transfer window and are not countenancing losing any of their key players. They continue to negotiate with Chelsea over a permanent deal for winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and are also targeting midfield reinforcements alongside bringing in back up for first choice full backs Kenny Tete and Antonee Robinson.
Mitrovic, who fought off the pain of a knock on his troublesome ankle to start the move that led to Bobby Decordova-Reid's winner at Goodison Park, is expected to be available for selection against Brentford on Saturday. It remains to be seen whether Silva will hand Fulham's talisman a first start of the season in the local derby or stick with summer signing Raúl Jiménez up front.

Al-Hilal 'revive interest in Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic'
Al-Hilal have reportedly renewed their interest in signing Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The Saudi Pro League club attempted to prise the Serbian away from Craven Cottage earlier in the summer transfer window.
Fulham turned down a £35m bid from Al-Hilal last month, with the Cottagers looking for a fee in the region of £50m.
Mitrovic, who has three years left to run on his contract, was left frustrated with Fulham's decision to reject Al-Hilal's approach.
After reportedly vowing never to play for Fulham again, the Serbia international returned to training at the end of July.
Despite featuring as a substitute in Saturday's win over Everton, Mitrovic still faces an uncertain future at Craven Cottage.
According to The Standard, Al-Hilal are set to renew their interest and submit a fresh offer for the 28-year-old.
Mitrovic still wants to complete a move to Saudi Arabia, having already agreed personal terms on a lucrative deal which would triple his current £120,000 a week wages.
Al-Hilal are seemingly keen to bring in a striker alongside Neymar, who is set to join the Saudi Arabian side from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Brazil international is expected to undergo a medical after Al-Hilal reportedly reached an agreement with PSG over a deal worth up to £86m.
Speaking prior to Saturday's 1-0 victory against Everton, Fulham boss Marco Silva admitted that he could not offer any guarantees over Mitrovic's future.
Silva told reporters: "He's a top goalscorer. We helped him and were able to get the most out of him over two seasons, like no one has done before. That is the reality. We all know what Mitrovic was like when we arrived, when the team played in the Premier League when the club was relegated.
"But the market is open and everyone is looking for strikers. If you want to get a good striker, of course, I believe that [clubs will look at] Mitro.
"I cannot guarantee that he is going to be 100% with us until the end of the transfer market because I cannot control the market. I understand the football business and if something happens we have to be ready for it."
During his five-year stay at Craven Cottage, Mitrovic has scored 111 goals in 206 competitive appearances for the West London side.

"It seems a little odd" - QPR eye Fulham transfer agreement: The verdict
FLW writers have shared their thoughts on QPR's interest in Fulham's Jay Stansfield.
QPR are interested in taking Jay Stansfield on loan for the upcoming season, along with three other Championship sides.
Stansfield is a young and talented striker who has shown potential in League One, but has limited experience in the Championship.
While QPR could benefit from bolstering their attacking line, it may be more beneficial for Stansfield to join a club that is not relying heavily on young players and near the bottom end of the table.
This article is part of Football League World's 'The Verdict' series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Queens Park Rangers have made an enquiry to take Fulham striker Jay Stansfield on loan for the 2023/24 season.
That is according to the Evening Standard, who state that the Rs are one of four Championship sides who are interested in the young striker.
The 20-year-old originally came through the ranks at Exeter City but moved to Fulham very early in his career.
Stansfield has played tonnes of games for the Cottagers academy teams and has featured eight times for the first team.
But, as he is a bit off their first-team squad and spent last season on loan at Exeter City, the striker is said to be actively looking for another loan move for this season, and Fulham are willing to grant it if the right opportunity appears.
Would Jay Stansfield be a good signing for QPR?
As we wait to see if QPR win the race for Stansfield, FLW writers have shared their thoughts on the Championship side's interest and revealed whether they think the forward is ready for the Championship.
Here is what they said...
Brett Worthington
Out of the several areas that QPR still need to improve in, the forward line is one that is definitely screaming out for reinforcements.
So, it comes as little surprise that QPR is looking at potential options that may be available this late in the window. However, it may surprise you the type of profile they are considering, as Jay Stansfield is a very raw, up-and-coming talent who has only two appearances to his name in the Championship.
Stansfield was excellent for Exeter City last season and deserved all the plaudits he got, but there is a difference between League One and the Championship.
But, saying that Stansfield may be better suited at a club that isn't expected to be near the bottom end of the table and is already relying on young players.
QPR's forward line has Lyndon Dykes as their most experienced striker, with him supported by Sinclair Armstrong and Charlie Kelman, both inexperienced at this level.
So, it seems a little odd for QPR to decide to throw another young, inexperienced striker into the mix. If anything, the club needs someone who has been there and done it at the top end of the pitch and who can help the young forwards already at the club.
That said, Stansfield may be better off waiting and seeing which other Championship or League One teams come knocking, which they are bound to do.
Sam Rourke
Simply put, QPR need to bolster their attacking line and it's likely to be a priority for the club before the September 1st deadline.
The side really only have Lyndon Dykes and Sinclair Armstrong as genuine contenders for the striking role with Charlie Kelman also in the mix albeit his lack of experience is a concern.
Stansfield is an exciting, young forward who seriously impressed for the Grecians last term in League One, with him providing nine goals and seven assists for the club as they maintained their League One status.
It seems that Fulham are wanting to give Stansfield another loan move with a Championship switch the preference, and for me, I think QPR could actually be a really good fit.
He'd offer the R's a different dimension up-front and he could prove perfect foil to the likes of Dykes and Armstrong with his diminutive frame and pace something that Ainsworth's side could do with in attacking areas.
I'd be confident he'd get a lot of game time at Loftus Road as well and he'll no doubt be eager to show that he can excel at second tier level after a promising stint in League One last time out.
