Title: Everton away
Post by: ffcthereligion on December 18, 2023, 09:32:31 PM
Line ups, predictions, thoughts

Unfortunately, I think we're going to be edged out of this one 1-0. We ll have our chances but we ll miss Raul's presence up top big time and probably get done by a crappy scrambled goal. They've won their last 4 on the spin to 0 and will be bang up for revenge for the opening day smash and grab and amidst their sense of injustice.

This is biggest game of season so far for me. I would be ecstatic to be wrong in my prediction and have such a good chance of getting to a cup final drawing Middlesbrough or port vale

I'd play;

       Leno

Tete tosin Bassey Robinson

   Palhinha Cairney

Iwobi pereira Willian

       Muniz

If Bassey not over his illness then obviously diop comes in.

Wilson and BDR only real impact subs but they're good options

It really depends what condition the players are in. I wouldn't be surprised to see:

Leno
Tete Tosin Bassey Robinson
Palhinha Reed
Wilson Pereira Willian
Muniz

I thought Iwobi run himself into the floor on Saturday so maybe he won't start. Either way I'd expect to see these 4 players come in: Tete, Reed, Willian and Muniz. (And Bassey if fit).

              Leno

Tete    Tosin/Diop Bassey  Robinson

        Palhinha Cairney

      Iwobi Pereira Willian

              Wilson

I don't envisage either Vinicius or Muniz having much joy against Tarkowski. I would rather we adopted the same approach we used successfully at Goodison last season. That day, of course, Dan James played as a false 9 and caused the Everton defenders problems with his pace. This time around, Wilson (who made a number of excellent off-the-ball runs against West Ham) could pose the same problems and give us our best chance of achieving the same outcome.

What a great chance for us to do something big. 2 wins away from a cup final. An average (albeit in form Everton plus potentially port vale or boro in the semi) of Come on boys, let's do this.

Anybody in the US right now who knows whether this is being shown live? If so, what channel?

They may have up to five first team regulars out due injury, so we do have a chance (although I thought the same about Newcastle!)

I don't have too much faith in either Muniz or Vini against their backline, so I tend to agree that maybe giving Harry a go up front could be worthwhile, especially if Willian is 100% fit to start.

Please play a full strength line up Marco. COYW!  ::scarf::

BBC sport at it again this wintry morn. A mention of the Chelski game and interview with Poch, plus  justifiable notification of Port Vale v Midds but none of that other fixture....

Good thing is until last two games they've been awful at home. All their form been on road.

Their win against Newcastle much better on paper than in reality. Two very bad trippier mistakes late on and Newcastle couldn't make a substitute so were knackered. Chelsea of course are what they are!

I'm 50-50 about this one. They are playing really well on the road and they've started to find some form at home also. Happy for them because I have a soft spot for them. That being said they were well beaten by a poor Man United side a few weeks ago. If we get the first goal tonight, I think we'll go through.

No, it's not scheduled for broadcast in the UK.

Our players must be mentally tired after the disaster and long journey home from Newcastle. They are in need of a rest and it may not be wise to subject them so soon to another big match and long journey to Goodison Park.

Also I have an eye on the Burnley match at the Cottage where a win could give us a top half of the table place for Christmas, we need a fresh team available for that game.

So why not:-

                                                         Rodak
                                       Castagne     Diop       Tosin      Ballo-Toure
                                                Reed                Lukic

                                                         BDR
                                             Wilson     Vinnie    Traore

There are players in that line up for whom we paid a few million, time they showed their worth.

Why not? Because I'm making the long trip north now & want us to pick our strongest side so when I get back, straight to work, in the early hours I will at least have the knowledge we gave it our best shot.

Also, Traore is injured.

My hunch is that we will put in a good shift but Pickford will remain resolute.

Just possible the fresh eager side that I have selected could be better suited to the cup tie than the Newcastle battered team.

I honestly think Everton will easily win tonight.

When the draw was made I fancied Fulham to do it, but Everton have been pretty darn good ever since, and for them to win the cup alongside easily saving their Premier Status (which they have pretty much done now) now would be a huge thing to aim for for them, and I think they will be really focused on doing so.

Sad to say so do I, our players must be tired and pretty pi$$ed off after the Newcastle game, tonights ref will probably be another homer!

But haven't we been pretty darn good lately as well (nevermind the red card and the effects thereof)? If Everton have pretty much saved their Premier League status already, haven't we done the same? Wouldn't winning the cup be a huge thing for us as well?

With the above in mind, why on earth wouldn't we be equally focused on the cup? I really can't see any relevant difference.

The most important match is the Cup Quarter Final tonight, Why ? Because it is the next one facing us. Why ? Because our travelling supporters deserve to be served our best available team to progress to the semi finals. Why ? Because it is a competition and you must compete.
Why ? Because the players are professional and should not feel tired, should not lack desire or hunger or appetite.
Why ?  Because that is what they get paid for.

does it go to penalties if level after extra time?
ie no replays?
