Just wondering why of all the teams in the world he's desperate to join Bayern
Because they're one of the biggest clubs in the world.
London vs. the Schwarzwald - who wouldn't?
A champions league final says it all really, he probably thought he'd at the very least have a bundesliga under his belt by this point too.

I served in the army in Munich and did many nights duties in the
Schwarzwald, extremely cold in the winter; stay in London.
The Schwarzwald is, of course, nowhere near Munich. But the point is basically valid: London vs Munich - who wouldn't?

OK, Bavaria!
Because he wants to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world in the Champions League and Bayern are the only club of that description actually in for him. Guarantee if Barcelona or Madrid were in for him then he would be twerking for them too.
IT's far from a disconnected village, it's a large city full of culture.
Quote from: Angus Telford on July 01, 2024, 04:46:53 PMI highly doubt he's going there because of the location. London is a leading global cultural centre, with a viable claim alongside NYC and a few others to being the epicentre of contemporary civilisation, somewhere you can do almost anything imaginable and from where you can fly directly to anywhere else you might urge to go. Munich in comparison is a quiet, disconnected village, too big to be quaint but too small to be relevant, with a substantially lower standard of domestic football. However, it happens to have a local team that regularly compete in the knockout stages of the Champions' League, which Fulham aren't going to do in the foreseeable future. That's why he's going.
I feel your ideas of Munich and London are quite outdated, London is being surpassed by most capital cities and even big cities of other big European countries. I.e. Amsterdam is quite the epicenter of COMTEMPORARY arts and you could also argue its diversity and culture also now surpasses London,
Im not trying to say London isnt a unbelievably fantastic city of diversity culture and contemporaries but I personally feel england as a whole has stood quite stagnant for at least a decade and allowed other country's to catch us up.

But even taking art as a random (but not unreasonable) metric as you have, the Tate, National Gallery and even Somerset House are more visited than the Rijksmuseum so Amsterdam is absolutely overshadowed there. Actually I think both the UK and foreign media love the idea that post-B****t or post-Empire or whatever, London has become less relevant, but the reality is on most reasonable metrics it remains in the top 3-5 big cities globally, with no one in Europe coming even close except maybe Paris.
FWIW I'm not some massive patriot and in fact might personally even prefer to live somewhere like Munich or Amsterdam rather than London (having visited both) but I'm a believer in objective truth and on obvious metrics like galleries, museums, bars, clubs, live music, live sport, international cuisine etc, London is a far richer environment for a young, wealthy person (of which I am neither).
I understand your post and I also understand I am in no position to argue, I don't live in London and while I visit occasionally to watch fulham or visit my sister, I don't exactly get a feel of what is happening, so much of my information comes from the media, which I agree likes to put a dampener on england as a whole. Its nice to hear positives about London.
Since moving to the south coast Fulham apart I don't go back home to the smoke.
Great club, min of champions league quarter finals every year and a chance to win it, will start most if not all games, good money, great lifestyle, not in traffic all the time, great facilities and medical staff, slower pace league games, more exposure, party every Sept/Oct and get to wear lederhosen, can wear your fancy watch without someone trying to steal it, free Audi (or other VW group car)....
A position they have been really poor in so he'll get game time. A club of clear renown and, pending another outrageous season from Bayer, you'd assume they'd win domestic trophies....plus, its extremely likely he'll get a deep run in the CL which is a dream of his.
I totally get it.

I think we all get it, but BM should not get this fantastic player at our expense.

I don't think they are? They are paying a considerable amount for a player going past his 'peak' age of career here by the numbers.

Free BMW surely? They're the ones based in Munich!
