Arsenal put £30m signing up for sale, with double exit now assured
A pair of Arsenal exits involving a £30m signing and an assists machine are on the cards for next summer, according to reports.

Arsenal reined in their spending last summer, forking out around £95m on permanent deals David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino. Factoring in the proceeds from the sales of stars such as Aaron Ramsdale, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah, Arsenal's net spend was just £17.2m.

Smith Rowe was allowed to leave in part due to the rapid rise of wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri. Of course, Martin Odegaard serves as the chief playmaker in midfield, though Nwaneri is now the one providing expert back-up to the Norwegian.

With Odegaard and Nwaneri likely to lock down the playmaking duties for many years to come, another player out in the cold is Fabio Vieira.

The Portuguese cost £30m (prior to add-ons) when bought from FC Porto in 2022. Vieira, now 24, has been put up for sale, according to Mail Plus.

Vieira is currently on loan back at Porto, though the agreement does NOT contain an option or obligation to buy.

As such, he'll return to north London at season's end, at which point he'll be tasked with finding a new club.

Mail Plus concluded Arsenal are 'ready to listen to offers' for the player and are on board with selling him outright.

Assists machine to follow Fabio Vieira out
Vieira won't be the only one leaving Arsenal next summer. Left-back Nuno Tavares – currently loaned to Lazio – is also expected to depart.

Tavares has remarkably notched eight assists in just nine Serie A matches for Lazio this season. His devastating displays have already prompted Lazio owner and president, Claudio Lotito, to suggest Tavares is now worth upwards of €70m.

Lazio inserted a conditional obligation to buy worth just £7.5m in their loan agreement with Arsenal.

The exact conditions that will force the clause to be activated aren't yet clear, though the fact Tavares is featuring regularly could play a part in triggering the clause.

And per Mail Plus, even if Tavares doesn't join Lazio outright, Arsenal will still 'look to sell' the defender despite his stellar showings in Italy.

Latest Arsenal news – Cunha, Jover
In other news, Caught Offside claim Arsenal have held 'initial talks' over the signing of Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha.

The 25-year-old has scored seven goals and provided three assists in the Premier League this season. Those figures appear all the more impressive when factoring in how poor Gary O'Neil's side – who currently sit 19th – have been.

Elsewhere, Manchester United legend Gary Neville has been rattled by an ultra-effective Arsenal man.

Speaking on a watchalong during Arsenal's 2-0 victory over Man Utd, Neville declared set piece coach, Nicolas Jover, is "the most annoying bloke in football." Both of Arsenal's goals in the contest came from corners.

Since the start of last season, the Gunners have scored 22 times in the Premier League from just corners. The next best team is Manchester City with seven fewer on 15.

Fabio Vieira far less effective at Arsenal

Preview: Fulham vs. Arsenal - prediction, team news, lineups
Arsenal past will reunite with Arsenal present on Sunday afternoon, as the Gunners take on a Fulham side housing a handful of their former stars in Sunday's Premier League London derby.

Both capital clubs earned two-goal successes in the midweek round of matches, as Mikel Arteta's team defeated Manchester United 2-0 before the Cottagers saw off Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 to boost their European charge.

Match preview
Hitting Nottingham Forest for three and West Ham United and Sporting Lisbon for five was not a precursor for a similarly ruthless attacking display against Man United, whose rigid defensive structure frustrated Arsenal throughout the first half of their Emirates encounter.

However, Ruben Amorim quickly became the latest in a long line of managers to succumb to Arsenal's set-piece proficiency, as Jurrien Timber's header and William Saliba's unorthodox backside finish from corners propelled the Gunners to the win that their dominance merited.

As celebrated set-piece coach Nicolas Jover laps up the plaudits again, head coach Arteta seeks to mastermind a fifth straight win in all competitions for his resurrected outfit, who have now cut the gap to leaders Liverpool down to seven points thanks to the Reds' slip-up at Newcastle United.

Chelsea putting five past Southampton means that Arsenal have dropped to the bronze medal position in the Premier League table, but the visitors' affinity for all-capital clashes is well-documented, having won seven of their last eight Premier League London derbies.

The demolition of West Ham in their last such battle saw the Gunners score at least five goals for the fifth time in an away game in 2024 - no English club has ever done so in six different road matches in a calendar year - but the less said about their last stopover at Craven Cottage the better.

A result that ended up proving fatal in their pursuit of title glory, Arsenal went down 2-1 to Fulham on New Year's Eve 2023, a few months on from also being held to just the one point at home to Marco Silva's troops, who have since been reinforced by a few erstwhile Emirates men.

One of those Hale End graduates - Alex Iwobi - sparkled under the Thursday night lights when Brighton paid a visit to the capital, registering twice either side of a Matt O'Riley own goal to ensure that Carlos Baleba's effort and acrobatic celebration would count for nought.

By harming Brighton's bid for Europa League or Conference League football, the Cottagers have significantly aided their chances of continental qualification as they reside in sixth place in the standings, just one point below the Seagulls and four adrift of Manchester City in the final Champions League spot.

Terrorising backlines for fun all season long, Fulham have found the back of the net in each of their last 15 matches in all competitions since drawing a blank at Manchester United on the opening day, although they are also still waiting for their first home clean sheet of the campaign.

Much like Arsenal, though, Silva's side have also flexed their muscles in London derbies, going unbeaten in their last eight Premier League games against capital counterparts. Not since 2001 have they enjoyed a longer streak without defeat in such derby matches, but that nine-game sequence was appropriately ended in a 3-1 reverse to Arsenal at Craven Cottage.

Team News
Following their early withdrawals against West Ham last weekend, neither Riccardo Calafiori nor Gabriel Magalhaes were risked for the clash with Man United in midweek; neither man was seen in team training on Friday either, but they could still make the cut.

Long-term knee victims Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu could therefore be the visitors' only absentees for Sunday's derby, where a couple of changes are not beyond the realm of possibility three days before a Champions League tie with Monaco.

Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino - back from a knee problem in midweek - head the queue for promotion from the bench, while Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko will make way if Gabriel and Calafiori are given the green light to return.

As for Fulham, on-loan Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson is ineligible to face his parent club, but the 24-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in the win over Brighton anyway and could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Nelson joins Harrison Reed (knee) and Joachim Andersen (calf) in the Fulham infirmary, while Jorge Cuenca and Ryan Sessegnon will both require late fitness tests but will not come into contention for starting roles regardless.

Tom Cairney - sent off in the draw with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend - is still suspended, but Sasa Lukic is back from his own yellow-card ban to offer an alternative option in the hosts' engine room.

Fulham possible starting lineup:
Leno; Tete, Diop, Bassey, Robinson; Lukic, Berge; Traore, Smith Rowe, Iwobi; Jimenez

Arsenal possible starting lineup:
Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Odegaard, Rice, Merino; Saka, Havertz, Trossard

We say: Fulham 1-3 Arsenal
Each of Fulham's seven Premier League home matches this season has seen both teams score, and that trend ought to continue in this intriguing derby, as Arsenal can still get caught out defensively and are a little short on personnel in that area.

However, the Gunners should have won by more in midweek, and if all else fails, the visitors can rely on their Jover-inspired corner routines to see off a wildly inconsistent Cottagers team.

Man of the Match Result: Brighton
Alex Iwobi was the overwhelming winner of the Man of the Match vote from Thursday's victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

His brace proved the difference, as we moved to within a point of the fifth placed Seagulls.

They were two very different goals, the first demonstrating his anticipation as he nipped in to win possession as the goalkeeper played out from the back, while his second was a great example of the fantastic footwork and calm finishing he has in his locker.

Playing in a slightly different role as a number eight in the absence of the suspended Saša Lukić, Iwobi looked perfectly at home in the middle of the park, almost claiming a gorgeous assist seven seconds into the second half when his vision allowed him to pick out the run of Harry Wilson, who volleyed wide.

Iwobi was always likely to claim MOTM, but he's won it by an absolute landslide, with 85.7 per cent of fans voting for him, putting him miles ahead of his closest rivals Sander Berge (3.7) and Bernd Leno (3.1).

"I was fighting for my dear life" – Iwobi reacts to bagging a brace in Fulham vs Brighton clash
Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi delivered a standout performance for Fulham, scoring twice in their thrilling 3-1 triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion on Matchday 14 of the Premier League, Soccernet.ng reports.

Iwobi, 28, wasted no time putting Marco Silva's side ahead, capitalising on a costly mistake by Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen just four minutes into the match. The midfielder seized the opportunity to lash home the opener and set the tone for the encounter.

Brighton responded strongly after the break, with Carlos Baleba levelling the scoreline early in the second half. However, Fulham regained their lead when Matt O'Riley inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Iwobi sealed the victory in spectacular fashion in the 87th minute. Navigating through a cluster of Brighton defenders, he unleashed a stunning curling effort from outside the box, securing all three points for the London outfit.

Reflecting on his goals via Fulham's club website, Iwobi said: "Yeah, I mean, the first one, we know Brighton had to play out from the back. So we had like a structure to try and press them. Obviously, at times, everyone makes a mistake. So I was able to capitalize on the mistake.

"And then the second goal, I mean, I felt like I was fighting for my dear life trying to get the ball off one of the players. Then when I got a bit of space and time, I tried to keep myself composed and hit the target. There was a little deflection but they all count as long as they go in, I don't mind."

The Cottagers are set to face Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea in their next four Premier League fixtures. They will be counting on the Super Eagles midfielder to deliver pivotal performances in these challenging encounters.

Frustration at ref selection for Arsenal's game at Fulham
The Premier League has assigned Chris Kavanagh to referee Arsenal's upcoming clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday, a decision that has stirred frustration among Arsenal fans given Kavanagh's track record of controversial decisions in matches involving the club.

Less than three months have passed since Howard Webb, the Premier League's chief refereeing officer, admitted that Kavanagh made an error during Arsenal's match against Brighton.

That game saw Declan Rice sent off after he tapped the ball away following a whistle, a decision that drew widespread criticism.

Webb's admission specifically pointed out Kavanagh's failure to apply consistent standards, especially as Joao Pedro was allowed to kick the ball halfway across the pitch without any booking during the same game.

It was Webb's belief that Pedro's action should have been punished, not Rice's "didn't have a choice" second yellow card.

Webb, in addressing the inconsistencies, said: "He's clearly seen Declan Rice commit a foul, then kick the ball away for an opponent that was in the process of taking a free-kick. We've messaged very clearly and strongly to the players in pre-season around the importance of not getting involved with the ball once the whistle is gone, not delaying the restart in that way."

Despite such directives, there remains a perception that the standards are being enforced more stringently when it involves Arsenal players.

For Arsenal fans, Kavanagh's controversial decisions are not new.

Many still recall his performance in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea, where he chose not to penalise the goalkeeper for taking Gabriel Jesus out at head height in the box. Despite the incident occurring in clear view, Kavanagh gave no foul, and the decision was cleared by VAR, then operated by Liverpool-supporting referee Jarred Gillett.

Similarly, Kavanagh was responsible for awarding a penalty to Newcastle against Arsenal, which was subsequently overturned after review—a further source of frustration for Arsenal supporters who feel that officiating decisions often go against them under Kavanagh's watch.

Another infamous Kavanagh performance occurred during Arsenal's clash with Aston Villa in 2021.

Arsenal's 1-0 loss was marred by defensive mistakes, but Kavanagh's officiating arguably had a significant impact on the game. Emi Martinez's clear foul on Alexandre Lacazette in the penalty box was bafflingly adjudged to be a free-kick to Aston Villa, leaving Arsenal incensed.

Later in the same match, Bukayo Saka was dragged down by Ezri Konsa when through on goal, yet Konsa only received a yellow card, a decision that many felt should have resulted in a straight red, especially when you consider what William Saliba was sent off for recently.

These instances added to the perception that Kavanagh has often applied the rules more leniently against Arsenal's opponents.

Kavanagh's history with Arsenal stretches back to his first game involving the Gunners in January 2018, when he officiated Arsenal's 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

However, subsequent fixtures have done little to endear him to the north London club's fans, who remember a series of inconsistencies, mistakes and missed calls in crucial moments.

Against Fulham this Sunday, Kavanagh will be assisted by Darren Cann and Simon Long on the sidelines, with Andy Madley serving as the fourth official. VAR duties will be handled by John Brooks, with Derek Eaton assisting.

Given Kavanagh's history of contentious decisions, many Arsenal fans will be watching closely, apprehensive of further decisions that could impact the Gunners' title race.

Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel miss Arsenal training before Fulham clash
Arsenal could once again be without defensive duo Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel for the side's trip to Fulham this weekend.

The Gunners were without the pair for Wednesday's 2-0 win against Manchester United at the Emirates.

Arsenal haven't specified the nature of the injures but Arteta was hopeful that they could both return in time for the trip to Craven Cottage.

However, neither player was able to participate in Friday's training session.

Both Gabriel and Calafiori trained inside as they continued their recovery.

Speaking at his news conference before Sunday's match, Arteta admitted the club have injury concerns.
'
We have a few, it's match day minus two so we have to monitor a few players,' said Arteta.

'We have another training sessions tomorrow so we have to see how everybody is for Sunday.

'Gabriel's chances? Until we see tomorrow's training session it's very difficult to say something.'

Arsenal closed the gap to Liverpool to seven points after the Reds' 3-3 draw with Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Fulham vs Arsenal Prediction
Marco Silva's side went unbeaten in both Premier League meetings with Mikel Arteta last term. We look ahead to Sunday's clash with our Fulham vs Arsenal prediction and preview.

Fulham vs Arsenal Stats: The Key Insights

The Opta supercomputer backed the away side for victory as Arsenal triumphed in 56.3% of pre-match simulations.
Bukayo Saka has been involved in 14 goals in his last 14 London derby matches in the Premier League (7 goals, 7 assists).
Arsenal's 30 goals from set-pieces are the most by any side in the competition since the start of last season.

Arsenal will aim to further cut the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool when they visit Fulham for Sunday's clash at Craven Cottage.

Mikel Arteta's side overcame Manchester United with a 2-0 win on Wednesday to join Chelsea on 28 points, closing in on Liverpool (35 points) after their 3-3 draw at Newcastle United.

Jurriën Timber and William Saliba did the damage for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, where Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka provided deadly crosses from corners from either side for the goals in the second half. Arsenal have scored more goals from corners (22) and more goals from set-piece situations (30, excluding penalties) than any other side in the Premier League since the start of last season.

Arsenal have won seven of their eight Premier League London derbies (D1) since losing 2-1 at Fulham in their final game of 2023. The Gunners have also scored 5+ goals in four of those eight derby-day games, as many times as they had in their previous 113 such matches combined.

Arteta may expect more goals here considering Arsenal have scored five or more goals in five different away games in all competitions in 2024, including their last two at Sporting CP and West Ham. However, no English top-flight side has ever done so six times in a single calendar year.

As for team news for Arteta's side, they could be boosted by the returns of Gabriel Magalhães and Riccardo Calafiori, though Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu remain out for the longer term.

High-flying Fulham have exceeded expectations this term and sit sixth in the table after Thursday's 3-1 victory over Brighton. Alex Iwobi was twice on target, scoring either side of Matt O'Riley's own goal, as Carlos Baleba's second-half leveller proved irrelevant at Craven Cottage.

Fulham are unbeaten in their last eight league London derbies (W4 D4), their longest such run since a run of nine between February 2000 and September 2001, although that streak was ended by a 3-1 home loss to Arsenal.

Marco Silva will hope that is not the case as he aims for back-to-back wins against Arsenal for the first time in his career. The Portuguese boss has won four of his 10 meetings with the Gunners in all competitions, all with different sides (Olympiakos, Watford, Everton and Fulham).

Silva will have midfielder Sasa Lukic back after the Serbia international served a one-match suspension in the win over Brighton, though Tom Cairney remains unavailable following his red card in last weekend's 1-1 draw at Tottenham.

Fulham vs Arsenal Head-to-Head
Raúl Jiménez and Bobby De Cordova-Reid were on target after Saka's opener as Fulham came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 in this exact fixture last season.

Fulham proved Arteta's nemesis in last season's unsuccessful title challenge, too, as Arsenal drew the other league meeting with them. Only between May 2011 and November 2012 have they had a longer winless run against the Cottagers in their top-flight history (4).

However, Sunday's hosts have never won consecutive league games, or even consecutive home league games, against Arsenal in their history.

Arsenal have also scored at least once in each of their last 18 Premier League games against Fulham, since failing to do so in a goalless draw at the Emirates in February 2009.

Fulham vs Arsenal Prediction
The Opta supercomputer has swayed towards an away win as Arsenal triumphed in 56.3.% of 10,000 pre-match simulations.

Fulham managed history-making consecutive home victories over Arsenal in 20.8% of data-led sims, while the draw occurred in the other 22.9%.

Fulham coach in negotiations to take manager's role – Keen to take career step
Fulham goalkeeper coach Hugo Oliveira is in negotiations to become the head coach of Portuguese side Famalicão.

According to their information, Oliveira is currently the leading candidate to replace Armando Evangelista at the Portuguese club.

They report that Oliveira is looking for a challenge as a head coach after serving on Marco Silva's 'technical committee' as a goalkeeper coach.

The 45-year-old moved into coaching after a playing career in Portugal and has worked at Hull City, Watford and Everton in England.

Famalicão had initially looked to hire former Braga manager Daniel Sousa as Evangelista's replacement, but he has chosen to move abroad after receiving offers from teams outside of Portugal.

That's seen them turn their attention to Oliveira and it seems they are ready to offer the Fulham man his first opportunity as a head coach.

Negotiations are now underway to make that happen, with a compensation package presumably needed before the goalkeeper coach can leave Fulham and Marco Silva behind.

Will Gabriel be fit to face Fulham this weekend? Arsenal defender in race to return from injury after missing open training
Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes is in a race against time to return against Fulham in the Premier League this weekend.

The Brazilian has been in imperious form for the Gunners this season but missed the 2-0 win over Manchester United through injury.

It was the first time in over a year that Gabriel failed to feature in a Premier League game for Mikel Arteta.

His return will be of vital importance to their Premier League title chances, having suffered a costly defeat against Fulham last term.

The Cottagers secured a 2-1 victory over their London rivals on New Year's Eve 2023 that ultimately proved costly for Arsenal's title bid.

Will Gabriel be fit to return this weekend?
The 26-year-old is set to hand Arsenal a huge boost by being declared fit to start against Fulham this weekend.

The Brazil international trained indoors on Friday with Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori who also missed the win over United.

However, Arteta has adopted similar tactics in the past around injured stars to avoid handing rivals team news leaks.

Speaking on Friday, the Spaniard tried to remain coy by saying: "We have to [monitor] a few players.

"We have another training session tomorrow so we will see how everybody is for Sunday.

"Without seeing tomorrow's session, it's very difficult to say. Calafiori the same. It depends how they evolve in the next few days."

Should Gabriel be sidelined ahead of a crunch Champions League clash with Monaco next week, Jakub Kiwior could start again.

The Poland star was signed out for praise by Arteta after partnering William Saliba at centre-back, with Ben White also out injured.

Another option for Arsenal would be for Jurrien Timber to move over to the heart of the defence and Thomas Partey to play right-back.

Following the win over Man United, Arteta said: "I don't know [when Gabriel will be back]. We will have to see over the next few days.

"Gabi was a big risk to play today because he felt something against West Ham.

"Sunday he's going to be a possibility. With Ricci as well, let's see how we reacts."

Gabriel has become a force in both boxes this term, having scored three Premier League goals and added another in the Champions League.

On Arsenal's status as 'corner kings', Arteta added: "We want to be the kings of everything. On set-pieces, the best in the world.

" On high-press, the best in the world. On attacking open spaces, the best in the world. We want to have the best atmosphere in the stadium and be the best at everything.

"Before it was about us not scoring enough, being soft defending, not having mentality, not being physical enough, and not challenging the top teams, with many years without winning away from home in big matches.

"We want to be the best at everything. We want to have the best academy, the best individual development for players. The best of the best. Recruit the best players and the best coaches. That's the aim."

Fulham v Arsenal. What on earth willl this referee do this time?
We only have to say Chris Kavanagh is the referee for Fulham v Arsenal tomorrow to have everyone up in arms.   Certainly, his appointment for the match reveals that PGMO will never take any notice of past events, and it is indeed a clear statement of PGMO's intent.  (Figures throughout from WhoScored).

No matter what, they will pick the man they want, and rely on their blanket ruling to the mainstream media that talking about referees is not an acceptable option if they want to have their reporters gain free admission to the special boxes in the grounds where they are housed.

To be precise, this is the man who sent Declan Rice off with a second yellow for tapping the ball back a couple of yards.   The referee was not only criticised for that card waving but for the fact that multiple other players engage in each week without reprimand).   If you want some coverage Daily Canon covered the issue.

But it certainly had its effect since all the media turned on Arsenal as the dirtiest team ever.

The big issue is one of consistency and comparison – for nasty foul by a defender might get a yellow card, the same as tapping the ball back, which defender after defender does as the forward edges the ball forward to gain an advantage at the free kick?

But as we also have pointed out to us in the same article this referee's performance in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

So what are we to make of him?  In terms of most statistics, he is middle-of-the-road among PGMO employees, but it is in the area of waving yellow cards that he is extreme in terms of Arsenal, giving three cards a game.  Only John Brooks exceeded him with four yellows.  Michael Oliver matches Kavanagh on three with Jarred Gillett slightly behind with 2.5 cards a game on average.

Although in terms of referees who have only seen Arsenal once this season the outlying waver has to be John Brooks who saw 18 fouls in one match.

Kavanagh has overseen nine PL games this season – only Oliver and Taylor have refereed more.  He sees six fewer fouls per game than, for example, Robert Jones who has also seen nine games, but in terms of yellow cards, as you might imagine he is right out there at the top waving 5.67 cards a game on average, the second highest in the League.  Anthony Taylor by comparison gives out on average 1.5 cards per game fewer.

This season he has overseen nine games and given out four reds.  Last season it took him 20 games to wave four reds.   This clearly is a referee who has got the taste for the power that the red card brings – or maybe (although I have no evidence to support this) just doesn't like Arsenal.

What is inexcusable is that PGMO has given Arsenal this man again to referee a match.  It is an utter indictment of PGMO and indeed of the Premier League as a whole, letting PGMO get away with this.  It really does show what Arsenal, and I think a handful of other clubs, are up against.   But of course, those that benefit from these wild antics of course will never vote out PGMO although they could by simply not renewing PGMO's contract.  And that really is what the clubs ought to do.

We might also remember that this is the referee who oversaw the draw (2-2) with Chelsea and allowed the Chelsea goalkeeper's assault on Gabriel Jesus.

In terms of results this season Kavanagh has gone draw bonkers.  Over half his games have ended in draws, although to be fair he also has a third of his games as away wins, leaving the minority as home wins – something totally out of kilter with the average arrangements.

The big worry with a referee like this, and an ultra-secretive controlling body like PGMO is that Kavanagh can do pretty much anything he likes, as he likes, how he likes.  It is unlikely that PGMO will do anything about him, and even if they did, we'd probably never know unless it showed up in the statistics.  And we know for sure that the mainstream broadcast and print media will never once criticise a referee, for fear of being banned from the grounds by PGMO.

In short, we are screwed.  And the fact we are doing ok in the league speaks volumes for Arsenal..

Before The Whistle: Fulham v Arsenal

'Tis the season for thick and fast games. And don't we love it?

This game is one in the eye for the "we play 38 games, who cares about the order?" brigade. To play Arsenal then Liverpool in consecutive games is a stinker, but our three points on Thursday puts us in a strong position. And, of course, we know how to get a result against the Gunners at the Cottage.

Moreso this season than ever before, of course, having added Emile Smith Rowe to our ranks, and Alex Iwobi being in the form of his life.

We welcome back Sasa Lukic to the centre of the park on Sunday, in a move that's likely to see Iwobi move back onto the wing, despite another strong performance from our Swiss Army Knife against the Seagulls.

There'll still be a place for Harry Wilson, though, with Reiss Nelson ineligible against his parent club, though the hamstring injury he sustained on Thursday would have likely ruled him out anyway.

Joachim Andersen is still out, so Issa Diop is set to continue alongside Calvin Bassey. They'll have their hands full against an Arsenal side looking to close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the table.

If it's not too obvious a point to make: we should fear nothing about this game. The boys are flying – anything could happen. COYW.

Pre-Arsenal Press Conference
Marco Silva believes Fulham's displays against Arsenal last season will make Sunday's fixture all the more difficult.

The Whites took four points off our friends from North London in 2023/24, and our Head Coach knows there is zero chance they will be taking us lightly this weekend.

"No-one surprises anyone in Premier League no more," he said. "You know how Mikel [Arteta] and the Arsenal team respect everybody in this competition, they know that it's really tough to play and win games at this level.

"And probably they are going to be even more aware because the reality is we played two great games against them last season – at the Emirates with the draw, and of course with the three points at Craven Cottage.

"But I really believe that it's going to be even more difficult. Firstly, because with the game last night, it's going to be [a] really short [turnaround], and because they are in a great moment, definitely.

"And they are going to be more aware, probably, about our strengths, and it's going to be tougher for us. But we like this type of challenge.

"We like to challenge ourselves, and we have to embrace it, and to go with full confidence that we can repeat the same [as last season]."

Silva was also asked about the Gunners' impressive ratio of goals scored from corners, but he was quick to point out that his side had plenty of success from that route to goal in these fixtures last term.

"Last season, we did really well in that situation, we scored twice against them in set-pieces last season, and the reality is that they didn't score [from a set-piece] against us, and let's hope we can repeat the same."

Arsenal XI vs Fulham: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup and injury latest
Gunners could be without key defensive duo again for London derby in the Premier League

Arsenal are sweating on the fitness of defenders Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori ahead of their Premier League trip to Fulham on Sunday.

Both players were absent from Mikel Arteta's squad for the 2-0 home win over Manchester United in midweek.

Gabriel has been struggling with an issue that forced him off early last week during both victories over Sporting CP and West Ham, while Calafiori has only recently returned from a knee injury and was withdrawn against the Hammers.

"We have a few," said Arteta on Arsenal's injuries ahead of the Fulham game. "It's matchday minus two, so we have to modify a few players.

"We have another training session tomorrow [Saturday], so we will see how everyone is. Until tomorrow's training session it's very difficult to say."

Arsenal head to Craven Cottage in fine form after winning four games in a row across all competitions. If Calafiori and Gabriel are able to return to the team then Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko will make way.

Arteta could also look to make a change in attack. Gabriel Martinelli had a frustrating night against Manchester United and Leandro Trossard looked sharp off the bench.

The Belgian could earn a start at Fulham on Sunday, with Arteta ready to rotate his squad during what is a busy month for Arsenal.

Predicted Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Saka, Havertz, Trossard

Sunday 2pm GMT, Sky Sports

Venue: Craven Cottage

Referee: Chris Kavanagh

ESR: Exciting game
Sunday's match against Arsenal was naturally one that caught the eye of Emile Smith Rowe when he swapped North for South-West London in the summer.

Having spent a decade with the Gunners, Smith Rowe naturally has a lot of affection for the club, but he's fully focused on sending them away from Craven Cottage disappointed this weekend.

"It's a massive game for me personally," he said. "At the start of the season, in my head I've always been thinking about playing against my former team. It's going to be an exciting game.

"I think it's going to be a bit weird, knowing the players for so long, and having been there for a lot of my life, so it probably is going to be a bit of an emotional day.

"But I have to make sure I do the job for Fulham."

One person who Smith Rowe was particularly close to at the Emirates was Bukayo Saka, having risen through the Hale End ranks together.

"Great person," ESR said of his former teammate. "We've been so close for such a long time.

"He was one of my closest friends at Arsenal when I was there, so I can't really speak highly enough of him. Unbelievable professional, does all the right things to stay fit and perform at the highest level.

"He's kind of like a little brother, so I'm really proud of him."

Fulham managed to get the better of Arsenal over our two meetings last season, drawing at the Emirates before winning 2-1 at the Cottage on New Year's Eve.

They were both tight battles, though, and when asked how similar Marco Silva and Mikel Arteta are, Smith Rowe replied: "I'd probably say they're both very demanding.

"They're very tactical and they know what they want every game. It's very clear to the players how they want to play, so I'd say they're probably quite similar in that aspect.

"But they're different as well. How they play is different, so there are similarities, but also differences as well."

Mikel Arteta sends class message to Emile Smith Rowe ahead of Arsenal reunion
Mikel Arteta reiterated how grateful he is to Emile Smith Rowe for the role he played in transforming Arsenal's fortunes ahead of his first game against his old club.

The Hale End Academy graduate made his breakthrough under Arteta four years ago at a time when the Spaniard's position was under threat.

Alongside Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, Smith Rowe's youthful exuberance helped turned the tide at set the Gunners on course for a major revival.

Injuries, allied to the signing of Martin Odegaard meant the England international's influence waned to the extent where he was reduced to a bit-part rolein each of the last two seasons.

Faced with another year of playing second fiddle to the club captain, Smith Rowe pressed for a move and the subsequent transfer to Fulham has suited all parties.

Ahead of this weekend's reunion at Craven Cottage, Arteta reserved special praise for the in-form midfielder and said: 'It was obviously a very tough decision to let Emile go and especially because I feel really grateful what he did for the club and for me in a period of time where I think he was instrumental to change something around it.

'At the end players have to play. He had a lot of difficult moments as well, a lot of struggles with injuries when we were together.

'He needed a fresh start. It is normal and we understood that and we allowed him to go.'

Ironically, Odegaard's injury, which saw him miss 12 games, would have presented Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira, who has joined Porto on loan, the opportunities they craved.

Arteta, however insists he does not regret allowing either player to depart given the chance it has provided him with to promote 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri.

The teenager has made an eye-catching impact in recent weeks and Arteta is confident there is more to come from Nwaneri.

He said: 'We allowed Fabio to as well because we wanted to create the room and space for Ethan. He has given us every reason to trust him.

'He has shown he's ready to make the next step and it's great to have him'

Fulham boss Marco Silva sends message to Arsenal over set-piece threat
Marco Silva does not seem concerned about Arsenal's set-piece prowess, reminding the Gunners that his Fulham side came out on top from dead balls last season.

The Cottagers host Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League with much being made of Mikel Arteta's side's threat from corners.

Manchester United certainly struggled to handle their set-pieces on Wednesday night, with William Saliba bundling in the second goal from a corner in a 2-0 win.

Silva knows that his team face a challenge from set-pieces, but he has taken confidence from the two games between the sides last campaign.

The clash at the Emirates finish 2-2 and then Fulham won 2-1 at Craven Cottage, with the Portuguese coach remembering exactly how the goals came.

'Last season, we did really well in that situation, we scored twice against them in set-pieces last season, and the reality is that they didn't score [from a set-piece] against us, and let's hope we can repeat the same,' he told a press conference on Friday.

Silva would not expect Arteta to take his team lightly anyway, but even more so after the impressive results last season.

Fulham only played on Thursday night, beating Brighton 3-1, which Silva says will be no help to his side.

'No-one surprises anyone in Premier League no more,' he said. 'You know how Mikel [Arteta] and the Arsenal team respect everybody in this competition, they know that it's really tough to play and win games at this level.

'And probably they are going to be even more aware because the reality is we played two great games against them last season – at the Emirates with the draw, and of course with the three points at Craven Cottage.

'But I really believe that it's going to be even more difficult. Firstly, because with the game last night, it's going to be really short [turnaround], and because they are in a great moment, definitely.

'And they are going to be more aware, probably, about our strengths, and it's going to be tougher for us. But we like this type of challenge.'

Arteta was asked about Arsenal's work on set-pieces and said it is just another facet of the game that he wants his side to master.

'We want to be the kings of everything,' he said. 'Set-pieces, the best in the world. High press, the best in the world. In open spaces, the best in the world. The best atmosphere in the stadium and the best at everything. Before it was we didn't score enough, we were soft at defending, we didn't have mentality, we were not physical enough, we didn't beat big teams away from home for 17 years, 20 years, 22 years.

'We want to be the best at everything. We want to have the best academy, be the best at player development, recruit the best players, best coaches. That's the aim.'

How to watch Fulham vs Arsenal live: Stream link, TV channel, team news, prediction
Red-hot Arsenal meet equally-impressive Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday in a London derby that will affect both teams' top four hopes (9am ET).

The second-place visitors feel their title form is back on track and need to keep winning in order to keep pressure on Liverpool, who have built a seven-point gap over closest chasers Arsenal and Chelsea.

Arsenal have won three-straight Premier League games, scoring multiple goals in all three to produce a combined score line of 10-2 over Nottingham Forest, West Ham, and Manchester United.

Fulham are four points off the fourth-place pace set by Manchester City, and Marco Silva's men won at midweek to again pull into the European places.

The Cottagers have one less day's rest than the Gunners, whose win over Man United came at home a day before Fulham's defeat of Brighton.

How to watch Fulham vs Arsenal live, stream link and start time
Kick off time: 9am ET Sunday

Fulham team news, focus
There are a host of ex-Arsenal players on the books at Fulham, including Alex Iwobi who has five goals and three assists this season following a brace against Brighton. Reiss Nelson won't be on the pitch for the reunion event, though Bernd Leno and Emile Smith Rowe will meet their former team.

OUT: Harrison Reed (knee), Joachim Andersen (calf), Sasa Lukic (suspension), Tom Cairney (suspension), Reiss Nelson (hamstring)

Arsenal team news, focus
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has been at his best since missing the game against Forest on Nov. 23, assisting against Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United. And, of course, you're not allowed to mention Arsenal these days without mentioning their habit of scoring on corner kicks (Mikel Arteta almost seems to be getting annoyed by how often it's discussed!).

OUT: Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee), Ben White (knee) | QUESTIONABLE: Gabriel Magalhaes (knock), Riccardo Calafiori (knee)

Fulham vs Arsenal prediction
Fulham have the ability to slow Arsenal's attack and cause problems at the other end, especially the way Antonee Robinson has been eating up his side of the pitch. At the end of the day, however, the Gunners should find their way to more and superior chances. Fulham 1-2 Arsenal.

🏆 Premier League
🗓 Sunday 8th December
⏰ 2pm (GMT)
#️⃣ FULARS

The opposition

A tough four game spell in October/November aside, it's been another very promising campaign for Arsenal. That four-game stint saw them win just two points, losing to Newcastle and Bournemouth, though the two draws were against the only sides above them in the Premier League – Liverpool and Chelsea.

They've since embarked on a three-match winning run, seeing off Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and, most recently, Manchester United on Wednesday.

Team News

🤍 Reiss Nelson is ineligible to face his parent club but will be absent for a while anyway after hurting his hamstring in the Brighton win. Saša Lukić returns from suspension but Tom Cairney still has two games to serve, while Joachim Andersen and Harrison Reed continue their recoveries from injury.

🔴 Defence is the main area of concern for the Gunners - Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are definitely out, while Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori will be assessed on Saturday ahead of their potential involvement at the Cottage. Mikel Merino is also a doubt.

Tickets

This match has sold out.

Reflecting on his past experiences, including battling relegation with previous clubs, Berge is determined to help Fulham secure a top-half finish. With Arsenal up next, Berge is ready for the challenge, including facing his close friend and Norway teammate, Martin Ødegaard.

Elsewhere in the publication, Malcolm Macdonald looks back on eventful stints with both Fulham and Arsenal, Calvin Bassey answers some very random questions, and Marco Underwood is the subject of our Academy Ace feature.

Silva and Tom Cairney also supply their regular notes, while Robert Wilson and Gentleman Jim pen their columns.

Fulahm v Arsenal, tackles, fouls yellows
It is possible to get an idea both of how a team plays and how referees react to a specific team, by looking at the number of tackles the team puts in, the number of fouls referees give against them, and then how many of those fouls turn into yellow cards.

And these days we particularly note that it is yellow cards from fouls that are measured, since yellow cards are given for so many other reasons, that the cards from fouls are just part of the overall scenario.

The first table here looks at the basic tackles, fouls and yellow cards (divided into yellows from fouls and yellows for other reasons).

Team  Tackles pg  Fouls pg  Yellows from fouls PG  All yellows PG
9. Fulham  17.9  10.1  3.57  5.57
9. Fulham  17.9  10.1  3.57  5.57
17. Arsenal  16.1  10.3  3.07  4.43
Fulham % above AFC  11%  -2%  16%  26%

What this table shows is that Fulham have overall put in 11% more tackles than Arsenal this season, but get marginally fewer fouls given despite all those extra tackles.

However, despite giving away fewer fouls, they get 16% more yellow cards as a result of these tackles.  The only explanation of this  which comes to mind is the fact that with all these extra yellow cards that they get for non-fouling reasons, the referee inevitably becomes more prejudiced against the club.  As a result they get 26% more yellow cards than Arsenal.

A summary of such findings would best be written as, "It's a funny ol' game". because there really is no fair and reasonable explanation for this  But leaving that for a moment we now move on to the relationship between tackling, fouling and yellow cards dished out by referees...

Team  Tackles per foul  Tackles per yellow  Fouls per yellow
Fulham  1.77  5.01  1.81
Arsenal  1.56  5.24  2.32

We can see here that Arsenal put in fewer tackles than Fulhm before a foul is given against them, but on the other hand Arsenal can put in slightly more tackles before getting a yellow card.  However, when we look the number of fouls that each club can put in before a yellow card is waved, we find that Arsenal can get away with 28% more fouls than Fulham before receiving a yellow card.  So Arsenal are most certainly getting their defensive tactics right.

Besides, Arsenal have got their fouling pretty much under control and this season have only had 19 cards from fouls.  Only Everton and Brentford have fewer.

But Arsenal do have a problem and that is with yellow cards from sources other than tackles for in this category, Arsenal are right up there in second place, with only the notorious Chelsea (notorious in the sense of their yellow card numbers) matching Arsenal.  Below is the current table of yellow cards which is supplied by WhoScored, but is rarely reported anywhere else.

The cards as you can see are divided into three origins: for fouls (the bulk), for unprofessional conduct, and then the "other" column.  This last column is particularly annoying because it seems impossible to find out what the reason is – although we know one reason of course, which is kicking the ball away a couple of feet back to the position it ought to be in, when the opposition is given a free kick.

The question therefore remains, apart from this kicking the ball away incident, what 14 other incidents have Arsenal been involved in that have merited yellows?  I can't tell you and PGMO won't tell me.

Pos  Team  Fouls  Unprofessional  Other
Chelsea  25  18
Arsenal  19  15
Manchester United  27  11
Fulham  21  11
16  Manchester City  22
19  Liverpool  25
20  Tottenham  22

The fact that the media in general are not reporting on this "other" column suggests that there is something fishy going on, and I'd love to know what.  And indeed why Tottenham are so rarely penalised under its properties, while Arsenal are getting done all the time.  It can't all be about putting the ball back a couple of feet.

We might also note that Arsenal have picked up 14 cards at home this season while Fulham have picked up 21.  Away from home Arsenal have gathered 21 cards (10 of them for unspecified other reasons) and Fulham 14 cards (four for the mysterious "other" reasons.

So to compare Fulham at home and Arsenal away we can expect three yellow cards for Arsenal with one or possibly two of these for non-fouling reasons, while Fulham will get two yellows, with possibly one of those being for an unspecified reason.

And there is a point here about this business of cards for hidden "other" reasons.  Football is a spectator sport, and we are supposed to be able to work out what is going on, in order to enjoy the game.  Having cards for weird reasons we know nothing about has nothing to do with entertainment.  In fact it is the opposite.

But then that's PGMO for you.  They'd probably prefer it if the game were played out on a computer, rather like the Sun does before each match.

Fulham are well and truly Brighton's Premier League bogey team

Following another memorable victory against Brighton on Thursday night, Fulham fans have started to embrace the opportunity of a match against the Seagulls, with the Whites unbeaten in nine against them in the Premier League. Brighton have proven themselves to be a very well organised and well drilled team over the years, but just how good have Fulham been against them?

The record

Before both sides were promoted to the Premier League, the Whites had a torrid record against their counterparts, losing the last five matches between the pair in the Championship, conceding 13 goals and scoring just three. The last Championship match between the two teams in 2016, was the last time Fulham lost a game against Brighton, having drawn four and won five of the games these two teams have played since. Fulham have 16 goals compared to Brighton's seven in this period as well.

The memories

Alex Iwobi was the star in Thursday's victory, however Fulham had to show a clinical edge to get it over the line. Brighton had 13 shots to Fulham's six and 55% possession, ensuring Bernd Leno had to keep his wits about him to help Fulham gain a sweet victory.

This was similar to a game at the AmEx in 2023, when Fulham performed a memorable smash and grab to come away with three points. Manor Solomon was on target in the 89th minute after Brighton had had 21 shots and two goals ruled out for offside in comparison to Fulham's five, although a crisp finish from Solomon ensured all Brighton's pressure counted for nothing and the away end was sent into raptures with the late winner.

Fulham have had the better of the game in some tussles with Brighton however, like in 2019. With the Tinkerman Claudio Ranieri at the helm, Fulham overcame a depressing first half performance whereby a Glenn Murray double sent them into the break 2-0 down against the visitors, to score four second half goals and win the game 4-2 in a valuable victory. Unlikely goalscorers Luciano Vietto and Calum Chambers helped the side mount the fightback, peppering Brighton with 24 shots and 61% possession in the process.

Conclusion

Fulham's form against Brighton in the Premier League provides a stark contrast to in the Championship. It is notable that there are many games where Brighton have had the better of the game and could have taken the victory, however they haven't consistently. Credit where it is due to Brighton, they have shown themselves in many instances against the Whites, to be the well drilled and well coached outfit they are touted to be, however Fulham have been able to put a stop to that in the Premier League so far and long may it continue.

Emile Smith Rowe opens up ahead of Arsenal reunion as he admits 'weird' feeling
Emile Smith Rowe is set to face Arsenal for the first time since leaving the club in August when his Fulham side take on the Gunners at Craven Cottage on Sunday

Emile Smith Rowe, the Fulham midfielder and former Arsenal player, has shared his feelings about the upcoming match against his old club.

The 24-year-old, who transferred to Marco Silva's team in August on a long-term deal, has been an ever-present figure for Fulham this season, contributing three goals in 14 Premier League appearances.

"It's a massive game for me personally," Smith Rowe expressed on Fulham's official website. "At the start of the season, in my head I've always been thinking about playing against my former team. It's going to be an exciting game."

He anticipates a mix of emotions when facing the Gunners, acknowledging it will be "a bit weird" and potentially emotional due to his long history with them.

However, he emphasised his commitment to Fulham: "But I have to make sure I do the job for Fulham."

Fulham are coming off a strong performance, having beaten Brighton 3-1, and will be eager to replicate last season's success against Arsenal, where they drew at the Emirates and won at Craven Cottage on New Year's Eve. Smith Rowe praised both his current manager Silva and his previous boss Arteta as "very demanding" and clear in their tactical expectations.

With Arsenal sitting third and aiming for their fourth consecutive league win, Silva remarked in a press conference: "No-one surprises anyone in the Premier League any more.

"You know how Mikel and the Arsenal team respect everybody in this competition, they know that it's really tough to play and win games at this level.

"But I really believe that it's going to be even more difficult (than last season).

"Firstly, because with the game last night, it's going to be [a] really short [turnaround], and because they are in a great moment, definitely."

"I'm told..." – Expert says Liverpool are eyeing Premier League ace alongside Kerkez
Liverpool consider Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson an alternative to Milos Kerkez, according to former Manchester United scout Mick Brown.

Andy Robertson hasn't been at his best this season, despite improving recently, and with the Scot now 30 years of age, a long-term successor is required at left-back soon.

Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said that Liverpool are tracking Robinson as an option to come in, along with Bournemouth ace Kerkez:

"They want to sign a like-for-like replacement for Robertson. Kerkez is a player who fits that bill, and I'm told they've been looking at Antonee Robinson from Fulham," said Brown.

"Robertson has been a revelation for Liverpool, up and down that left flank he's been so influential for them for so many years now. But I think they want to sign a younger option because they're planning for the future.

"I wouldn't expect Robertson to leave any time soon, he'll still be there, but he'll have to be replaced eventually, and they're putting plans in place for that ahead of January. One issue is that there's a lack of real top-class left-backs about, and lots of clubs who need one.

"But Kerkez and Robinson are two they've been looking at and there are probably others on their shortlist, so we'll see what happens."

Our thoughts on Liverpool signing Robinson as Robertson's successor...
Robinson certainly ticks plenty of boxes for Liverpool, in terms of the profile of player they are looking for to replace Robertson, with the American now a proven Premier League player.

The Fulham man has now made a total of 114 appearances in the competition, and at 27, is a player right in the peak years of his career.

There is an argument to say that Kerkez is the superior option, however, not least because he is six years Robinson's junior, meaning he could be a more astute value-for-money signing overall.

There would be the threat of the USA international drifting past his best too soon at Liverpool, whereas Kerkez still has so many years ahead of him.

Robinson is more experienced and could slot in easier from the off, though, so there are arguments for either player, but either would ultimately be a strong addition by the Reds.

Real reason Reiss Nelson will not be available for Fulham against Arsenal as fresh injury blow is confirmed
The winger is on loan at Fulham from Arsenal

As many as three players with Arsenal connections could line up for Fulham against Mikel Arteta's side in the London derby on Sunday afternoon.

Former Gunners trio Bernd Leno, Alex Iwobi and Emile Smith Rowe have become mainstays under Marco Silva, helping the Cottagers make a solid start to the season as they go into the weekend sitting sixth in the Premier League table.

Reiss Nelson has also contributed with two goals and an assist across all competitions. He too has become a regular over the past month or so having started five games in succession.

However, that run was always going to come to an end this weekend. As per Premier League rules, the 24-year-old cannot face Arsenal as the league's regulations restrict loaned players from taking part in matches against the parent club.

Unfortunately for Nelson he sustained a hamstring injury during Fulham's 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night and Silva fears the winger will be sidelined for longer than expected.

"Right now, Reiss Nelson was going to be out anyway because he's on loan from Arsenal," the Fulham boss told reporters. "The first feedback I got from the medical staff is that it's going to be a hamstring injury.

"He's going to be out for this game for sure and probably the next game. Let's see how many more."

With that said, Smith Rowe is expected to feature against his former club and he's relishing the prospect of coming up against some familiar faces.

'I had to quit Everton - now Arne Slot wants Liverpool to sign me before Man City do'
Antonee Robinson has become one of the Premier League's most highly-rated full-backs since parting ways with Everton in 2019, and Arne Slot is said to be eyeing a bid for the USA international

Antonee Robinson may have his allegiances tested in the January transfer window, with Arne Slot reportedly eyeing the talented left-back.

A United States international, the 27-year-old has broke through as one of the Premier League's top touted full-backs over the past couple of years. He joined the Everton youth system at 11 and signed his first professional contract at Goodison Park in 2015 but failed to make a single appearance for the first team before being sold to Wigan Athletic four years later.

Robinson spent one season with the Latics before making the move to Fulham in a £2million deal in 2020. He almost joined AC Milan during that period but missed out on a move to the San Siro due to an irregular heart rhythm which flagged up during his medical. Robinson later revealed it came down to drinking too much coffee.

While many players might have been disheartened to wave goodbye to their boyhood club where they rose through the ranks, Robinson has previously admitted that he had no regrets about leaving Everton. He explained: "Not one regret, no. Everton were always really honest with me, they just said, 'we've got rid of a few players but we definitely need to keep Bainesy [Leighton Baines].

"We can't get rid of Jags [Phil Jagielka], the captain, and lose Baines as well. It's getting rid of so much of Everton in the changing room and he's such a good player as well still. We've got him and [Lucas] Digne starts for us so you have to wait for two injuries to start so you're not even making the bench at the minute so we think it's best for you if you just leave.

"It's nothing to do with you, it's just you need to play'. I am really thankful they were that upfront and honest with me because it gave me the chance to go away and progress elsewhere." Since making his way to Craven Cottage, Robinson has impressed Fulham, making 164 appearances across all competitions for the club.

However, the defender could soon find his way back to Merseyside, albeit donning the red of Liverpool rather than the Toffee blue. According to Give Me Sport, Slot's side could be preparing for a bidding war against the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City to acquire the talent's signature.

Liverpool only welcomed one new player to the squad over the summer in the form of winger Federico Chiesa, and it is reported that the Reds are looking at preparing a winter window bit for Robinson. However, Slot may have to splash out a reported £40million to acquire Robinson's services, with three years left on his current deal at Craven Cottage.

While Liverpool are currently sitting atop the Premier League, one area in which Slot's outfit have been lacking is the left-hand side of their defence. First-choice Andy Robertson has struggled to find his form, meaning Robinson acquisition could give Liverpool a big title boost.

Meanwhile, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold's future at Anfield also remains in question. The 26-year-old is out of contract next summer, along with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, all three of whom are yet to extend their contracts.

Samantha Read on Brentford Women's FA Cup derby clash with west London rivals Fulham
Brentford Women face west London rivals Fulham in the FA Cup third round on Sunday at Bedfont Sports Club in a 3pm kick-off; Samantha Read: "It's been an amazing journey so far and we don't want it to end here - a win over Fulham in front of our home crowd would be incredible"

Defender Samantha Read said Brentford are "ready to make another statement", as the Bees welcome Fulham to Bedfont Sports Club for their FA Cup third-round clash on Sunday (kick-off 3pm).

Karleigh Osborne's side have won every game they have played so far this season, but will face their toughest challenge to date this weekend as they come up against Fulham.

The Cottagers are also undefeated, plying their trade in the London South East Premier Division, one league above Brentford.

Read has been one of Brentford's most consistent performers this season, holding her place as one of the three centre-backs in Osborne's side.

"It's been a brilliant season so far," said Read. "Obviously a lot of the plaudits go to the forwards and rightfully so, but I feel as a defensive unit we have been extremely strong as well.

"Fulham are going to offer a tough challenge and I'm sure their forwards will have a lot of quality - but myself and my team-mates have no reason not to be confident with the form we are currently in."

Brentford put on another strong display and made history again by confirming their place in the third round of the FA Cup for the first time ever, following the side's 1-0 win over National League team, London Seaward.

A Nikki Woods strike was enough for the Bees to secure the win with her goal on 85 minutes, sending the Bees fans wild.

Read went on to talk about how important the fans have been this season and how their support could help them pull off another big result against Fulham.

"The support this season has been beyond anything we have ever experienced as a team; we have made Bedfont such a fortress over the past two seasons and the noise really pushes us on," she said.

"It's been an amazing journey so far and we don't want it to end here - a win over Fulham in front of our home crowd would be incredible."

Fulham boss Marco Silva reminds Arsenal of weakness ahead of Premier League clash
Fulham beat Arsenal last term - with their victory aided by set pieces - as they prepare to take on the Gunners who themselves have become masters of dead ball situations

Marco Silva is not fearing Arsenal's set piece onslaught - reminding everyone that it was Fulham who used them to beat the Gunners last term.

The north Londoners continued to enhance their reputation as specialists when it comes to scoring from dead ball situations. On Wednesday night they used two corners to score their goals as they secured a 2-0 win over Manchester United.

First Jurrien Timber and then William Saliba benefitted, adding to Arsenal's growing list of goals from corners and free-kicks. Already this term they've used set pieces to breach Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City - but last term it was Fulham giving them a taste of their own medicine.

Their meeting at the Emirates finished 2-2 early in the season and then Fulham won 2-1 at Craven Cottage on New Year's Eve - and Silva remembers how they used set pieces to their advantage.

He said: "Last season, we did really well in that situation, we scored twice against them in set-pieces last season, and the reality is that they didn't score [from a set-piece] against us, and let's hope we can repeat the same."

Fulham secured an impressive win over Brighton in midweek as they jumped up to sixth. Another win at their home base and they would close to within three points over Arsenal, but Silva insists the Gunners won't be surprised by anything they bring.

"No-one surprises anyone in Premier League no more," he said. "You know how Mikel [Arteta] and the Arsenal team respect everybody in this competition, they know that it's really tough to play and win games at this level. And probably they are going to be even more aware because the reality is we played two great games against them last season – at the Emirates with the draw, and of course with the three points at Craven Cottage."

Arsenal meanwhile are embracing their set piece success, despite comparisons to Stoke City during their time under Tony Pulis. Arteta has joked that the Gunners want to become a jack of all trades and is happy to have the reputation they do.

He said: We want to be the kings of everything - at set pieces, the best in the world, at high press, the best in the world, attacking open spaces, the best in the world. We want the best atmosphere in the stadium, and be the best at everything."

The problem Liverpool now have with Alexis Mac Allister after Everton postponement
Everton vs Liverpool has been called off on Saturday amid concerns about the weather and Storm Darragh.

This game will have to be replayed at a later date, and both teams now get a few days off to prepare for their next games.

There's no let-up for Everton as they prepare to face Arsenal next week, while Liverpool face a tricky game against Fulham.

Fulham caused Liverpool more than a few problems at Anfield last season. The Whites led 3-2 late in that game before two late goals earned Liverpool a 4-3 win.

Antonee Robinson says that game is the best atmosphere he has experienced, and it showed that Fulham are no pushovers.

Alexis Mac Allister scored a wonderful goal on that day, but after Everton vs Liverpool was postponed, the Argentine will now not be able to play in that match.

Alexis Mac Allister banned for Liverpool vs Fulham
Mac Allister was due to miss the Merseyside Derby due to a suspension regarding an accumulation of yellow cards.

Mac Allister's absence in that match would've been felt, but, with all due respect to Everton, their midfield isn't great and the Reds should've been able to dominate that area regardless.

Troy Deeney tipped Liverpool to win that match for a reason.

However, now, Mac Allister is set to miss the Fulham game, and that poses a different sort of problem.

Between Alex Iwobi, Sasa Lukic, Andreas Pereira and Sander Berge, Fulham's midfield has been in great form as of late, and Mac Allister's ability would be needed in this match.

The £35m man will miss the Fulham game, and that puts Liverpool at a disadvantage.

Who could replace Alexis Mac Allister?
Of course, a team like Liverpool has plenty of depth, so losing one player isn't the end of the world.

Curtis Jones would be able to slot into a midfield alongside Dominik Szboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch with relative ease.

Jones actually scored against Fulham in the EFL Cup semi-finals last year, and Jones has been in great form this season.

However, Mac Allister is perfectly suited to playing against Marco Silva's side, as he showed last year. He brings an energy to the midfield that other players can't match, and that can stifle the threat posed by Fulham's midfield players.

While it's not the biggest blow in the world, it is still a fresh minor issue that Liverpool now have to contend with heading into a match against a team that has been brimming with confidence as of late.

Fulham were never going to be easy opposition, but they'll be a bit harder to beat without Mac Allister's influence in the midfield.
