Wilson scores as Wales ease past Liechtenstein
Fulham winger Harry Wilson was on target as Wales maintained their unbeaten record under Craig Bellamy with a comfortable 3-0 win over Liechtenstein last night.

They are now two points ahead of top seeds Belgium at the top of Group J after Roberto Martinez's side were held to a 1-1 draw by North Macedonia. Wales head to Brussels to play Belgium in a crucial clash on Monday evening.

After Joe Rodon had headed Bellamy's boys in front, Wilson nodded home the second of the evening from a superb cross by Jay Dasilva to score his thirteenth goal for his country – taking him above Ryan Giggs and level with John Toshack. Wales wrapped up the victory when Kiefer Moore rolled in the third after excellent play from David Brooks.

Berge shines as Norway demolish Italy
Sander Berge starred as Norway maintained their flawless start to World Cup qualifying with a wonderful win over Italy last night.

The Italians had no way back after the Norwegians surged into a three-goal lead after 34 minutes thanks to strikes from Alexander Sorloth, Antonio Nusa and Erling Haaland. Berge, who excelled in breaking up play and driving his side forward from central midfield, almost added a goal of his own but his rising drive from the edge of the box came back off the woodwork.

Norway, who have nine points from their first three matches, are top of Group I. They travel to Tallin next to take on Estonia on Monday night.

"It would be a shame" – Worry over losing teammate as Leeds United and Fulham in mix for signing
Fulham were linked with a move for Kasper Dolberg at the beginning of May, and then Leeds United were linked with the Anderlecht player around a week later.

At the time of the Leeds United claims it was stated that the Yorkshire club, or anyone else interested for that matter, would have to pay around €15m if they want to secure the 27-year-old.

Dolberg has somewhat rebuilt his career in Belgium, having struggled to live up to the hype built at the beginning of his career. Many now feel it's only natural that he moves to a bigger league and tests himself again, and Leeds United and Fulham would obviously provide such an opportunity.

Not everyone wants the Dane to leave Belgium, and that includes his Anderlecht teammate Lucas Hey, although he will understand if the exit decision is made.

Tipsbladet quote Hey as saying: "We can agree that he can play at a higher level, so it's clear that it would be a shame to lose someone like him if that's what it ends up being. But if that's what he wants, then he should follow his dream and do it.

"I can understand the level he has. If he wants to come back to a top five league, he should do it. He at least has the level to play in one of the top five leagues. What I see on a daily basis shows that he has a somewhat different level.

"I came in January, when he had a few injuries, but he came back strong. I especially remember his four goals against Gent. He is a skilled striker, and he is really good at finishing and link-up play. He is also a good person off the pitch."

Burnley and Ajax have also been linked with moves for Kasper Dolberg, although the Fulham and Leeds United claims appeared stronger. There's been no serious update on where he may end up.

Fulham ready to sell Andreas Pereira, Manchester United to make bank
Fulham will reportedly be open to cashing in on Andreas Pereira in the summer transfer window, with the 29-year-old Brazilian international ready to embark on a new challenge.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Andreas Pereira is ready to leave Fulham in the summer transfer window to embark on a new challenge. The Brazilian international has no shortage of suitors vying for his signature, with Marseille, Saudi Pro League clubs, and Palmeiras among the clubs keen on signing him.

Meanwhile, the Cottagers are finally ready to cash in on the Belgian-born playmaker in the summer transfer window, although they will demand a sizeable fee to part ways with him. The reason for Fulham's stance is Manchester United's sell-on clause, with the Red Devils entitled to 20 per cent of the profit the West London club will make from Pereira's sale.

Andreas Pereira and a career-changing move
Andreas Pereira has resurrected his stuttering fortunes since joining Fulham from Manchester United in a deal worth £10 million in July 2022. The Duffel-born playmaker was among the most promising young prospects in the Premier League when he broke into the first-team squad at Manchester United. However, he could not establish a foothold in the senior setup at Old Trafford.

However, the 29-year-old has come leaps and bounds at Fulham, turning out over 100 times thus far while chipping in with ten goals and 22 assists. However, the Brazilian international faces an uncertain future at Craven Cottager heading into the summer transfer window.

What next?
Palmeiras wanted to sign Andreas Pereira from Fulham earlier this year, but the West London club resisted those approaches, including a bid worth £20.5 million. The Brazilian giants remain keen on signing the former Manchester United playmaker, although they face stiff competition from Marseille and Saudi Pro League outfits.

The Ligue 1 giants, in particular, hold a long-standing interest in Pereira and will likely return with an approach in the summer transfer window. The player's suitors have a chance to land him this summer, with Fulham ready to cash in on him, albeit for a hefty fee.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will also benefit from Pereira's departure, as they inserted a sell-on clause when they sold him to Fulham for £10 million. With the 29-year-old Brazilian international keen on embarking on a new adventure, it will be interesting to see where he plies his trade next season.

King: 'Playing for the club I've grown up at is unbelievable'
Fulham midfielder Josh King still thinks it is 'unbelievable' to be playing first-team football with the Whites having grown up in the club's academy.

In a wide-ranging interview with Fulham's official website this morning, the talented teenager describes his pride at his first season in professional football and reveals that he is targeting winning the European Under-19 championships this summer like his team-mate Ryan Sessegnon.

Reflecting on his achievements over the past year, King told Geoff Pruce:

"It's been a really productive and a really good first season in professional football. I've had a lot of good opportunities, which I'm really grateful for, from the manager. I think I've settled in really nicely into the team. There's a lot of good individuals who have helped me navigate my way through the season. There's been some really nice moments where I've got on or been given opportunities which have been really good.

My debut against Birmingham early on in the season was one of the best moments of my career, to be honest. Just being able to play for the club that I've grown up at is unbelievable really. My first Premier League game against Brighton stands out for me and then Southampton when I started and had a good game, playing well in front of the fans at the Cottage. More recently, Brentford, I enjoyed that game – got a few minutes and helped us get the win, which was a really big moment for us, obviously getting the points record and stuff."

The eighteen year-old was particularly pleased with his role in helping the Whites come from behind to do the double over Brentford earlier this month:

"I was really proud. it was a really good moment for me. As I was coming on, the manager said to me and H to try and impact the game and get us the win. That's what we tried to do. I think we just provided a bit of energy, where the game was a bit slower. I think that burst of energy and runs in behind really helped us. Obviously, H with a wondergoal and TC with a nice header was a really nice way to end the season. The support away has been incredible this season – and it pushes us on to get the three points."

He gave an insight into his relationship with club captain Tom Cairney after making his first start for the club alongside the Scottish international, having walked out with the midfielder as a mascot ahead of Fulham's play-off semi-final win over Derby County seven years ago.

"It was a bit of a full circle moment. The fact that TC was one of my favourite players coming up through the academy. I really liked the way he moved the ball and to be walking out with him again eight years down the line was something you could only dreamed of. Me and TC get on as friends now and the way our friendship has developed has been really nice this season. He's someone who I always go to for advice or things I need. He's definitely someone I look up to for sure."

King also shared how special it was to round off his season with a call-up to the England squad for the Under-19 European Championships and how Sessegnon and Issa Diop have shared words of advice having played in the tournament before themselves.

!It was really nice moment for me and my family. It's something which you dream about as a kid – playing for England, putting on the shirt. We've got a few games in Romania to see out the season and hopefully we can bring some silverware back to the country. With the quality of players we've got in that squad, we'll be looking to win it. It will be a very competitive group – with the Netherlands, Germany and Norway. It should be a good test for us, but we're very confident.

Sess was talking to me last week about how he found it and his experience there. It's really inspiring to see how he's played in the tournament and seeing how well he's doing. It makes me want to perform well, go there and bring it back as well. Even Issa Diop played in the same tournament a few years ago. We spoke about it as well and it is a really good opportunity for me as a young player."

Fulham reject Leeds move for Muniz
Fulham have turned down an approach from Leeds United to sign centre forward Rodrigo Muniz.

The newly-promoted club have made the signing of new strikers a priority as they try to strengthen Daniel Farke's squad before the start of the new Premier League season but we understand that Fulham have told Leeds – like a host of Premier League sides – that the 24 year-old is not for sale.

Marco Silva values the Brazilian highly – having pushed Fulham to make Muniz his first signing when he succeeded Scott Parker – and the Whites value him at around £50m. This has been enough to end interest from Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United and the Craven Cottage hierarchy are poised to begin talks with Muniz's representatives over a long-term contract.

The former Flamengo forward has twelve months remaining on his current contract, with Fulham holding a 12-month extension option. Muniz has scored 26 goals in 97 games for Fulham and was in red-hot form last term before his season was ended by an achilles injury he sustained in the 1-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth.

The Athletic's Beren Cross writes that Leeds sources have acknowledged the club's interest in Muniz but 'feel other strikers on their shortlist are more likely to be recruited at this stage.'

From Portugal: Marco Silva 'very close' to swapping Fulham for Tottenham
Long before Ange Postecoglou was shown the door at Tottenham Hotspur, indeed going back several months, multiple managers have been linked with taking over at Spurs.

Links to Brentford manager Thomas Frank go back to last year and it's the 51-year-old Dane who is considered by many to be the shoe-in option.

However, Portuguese newspaper Record has it differently.

In their Saturday edition, Record report – and make it clear this is according to their own information – that Fulham's Marco Silva is on the verge of becoming Tottenham manager.

To make it clear, Record state: 'Marco Silva is set to swap Fulham for Tottenham. Marco Silva is very close to taking over as Tottenham coach. Record knows that the agreement between the parties is close to being reached and everything suggests that the Portuguese coach will succeed Ange Postecoglou, who was fired yesterday.'

The report acknowledges that the UK media has been pushing Thomas Frank and Andoni Iraola, 'but everything points to Marco Silva being the chosen one'.

Tottenham would be the 47-year-old's fifth club in English football, following Hull City, Watford, Everton and current club Fulham.

Record will certainly have been told this information from a source, there's no reason for them to pluck it from thin air because the target audience for hits isn't the same as the audience who purchase their newspaper, and it's tucked away on page 25 rather than being a selling point.

Whether the information they've been given is correct remains to be seen.

Tottenham 'Very Close' to Agreement to Appoint 'Genius' Manager Instead of Frank
Tottenham are 'very close' to appointing Marco Silva as Ange Postecoglou's replacement, according to Record.

The Lilywhites finally made the decision to sack the Australian coach on Friday afternoon, just 16 days after he led the team to success in the Europa League and qualified for the Champions League, ending a 17-year trophy drought in the process.

It was believed that Brentford boss Thomas Frank was the leading contender for the role, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the club would advance talks in the coming days, but reports in Portugal now claim the club are going in a different direction.

Tottenham 'Very Close' to Silva Agreement
Portuguese coach has one-year left on Fulham contract

Silva had previously been reported as being one of the top contenders for the role, but at the end of the Premier League season he committed himself to Fulham for the 2025/26 campaign after rejecting an offer from Saudi Arabia.

However, Record report that he is now 'very close' to an agreement with Tottenham that would see him make the move across London to coach in the Champions League next season.

Silva, who has been described as a 'genius', led Fulham to the brink of European football in the 2024/25 season as the Cottagers finished 11th following a late collapse.

He has previously managed Hull City, Watford and Everton in England and has generally done well everywhere he has been, which will now earn him a potential position with a Champions League campaign.

Postecoglou was sacked despite winning the Europa League after a horrendous Premier League campaign in which the north London side finished 17th, with a record-breaking 22 defeats from 38 games. They also reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals, while they were eliminated from the FA Cup in the fourth-round by Aston Villa.

Spurs seriously considering Silva alongside Frank - and how much they would cost
Brentford's Thomas Frank is 'no done deal yet' with Fulham's Marco Silva a long-term target as Tottenham begin search for Ange Postecoglou's replacement

Marco Silva has been sounded out about the Tottenham job on more than one occasion, with some insiders believing it could be down to a fight between him and frontrunner Thomas Frank to succeed Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou was dismissed on Friday despite leading Spurs to a Europa League triumph in May, paying the price for the club's dreadful Premier League campaign which saw them finish 17th and suffer 22 league defeats.

Fulham are yet to receive a formal approach but Silva has long-term admirers at Spurs and was a candidate to succeed Antonio Conte in 2023.

The i Paper understands that Silva's representatives have been contacted about the vacancy, with the 47-year-old emerging as an alternative after impressing on a small budget at Fulham.

Sacking Postecoglou was a ruthless decision from Daniel Levy but the signs were ominous. The i Paper reported on Monday that contact had been made with representatives of Brentford boss Frank, who appears to be the firm favourite for the role.

All the indications are that Tottenham are looking to make a rapid appointment and Brentford are braced for an approach.

The i Paper understands that the west London club expect some contact from Spurs but, as of late on Friday night, there has been no communication whatsoever on Frank.

Although the timing of Postecoglou's sacking raised eyebrows, a little over two weeks after the Europa League final, insiders say Spurs were conscious they needed clarity so they can begin planning for the transfer window and give potential targets a clear answer as to who they would be playing for.

There has been a major overhaul of the board in recent weeks, with Levy's key ally Donna-Maria Cullen leaving and chief football executive Scott Munn also on his way out. Munn was closely linked to the Postecoglou project, arriving in 2023.

It is a measure of how well-run Brentford are that any approach for Frank would demand significant compensation. He signed a long-term contract in late 2022 that included a buyout clause of around £10m – although Tottenham may try and negotiate on that figure.

Sources suggested to The i Paper on Friday that it was no "done deal" that Frank would leave Brentford, where he benefits from working in an exceptional structure, for Tottenham.

Last summer there had been intimations that he believed he had taken the Bees as far as he could but the understanding is still that he would only leave for the right opportunity.

One Premier League executive at a rival club suggested Frank – as one of the "smartest coaches" in the division – should think long and hard about leaving Brentford for a job which a much shorter shelf life than the seven years he has been at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Silva has been at Craven Cottage since 2021. They finished 11th in the Premier League last season but a clear playing identity emerged and smart recruitment has helped establish them in the division.

Whether Fulham, who repelled mega money offers for Silva from Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal two years ago, would rebuff Tottenham's interest is unclear.

He has a year left on a contract signed in 2023 and it previously emerged that there was a £6m release clause for any rival clubs interested in trying to lure him away. The i Paper understands Fulham have been in informal, ongoing discussions with him over an extension but no agreement has been reached yet.

Spurs are in a healthy position when it comes to finding the money for any compensation package, though they have already had to fork out £4m to pay off Postecoglou.

A third possibility – Andoni Iraola – appears more distant. While Iraola has also attracted interest from Spain in recent months, Bournemouth believe he plans to stay with them after encouraging end-of-season meetings and there has been talk of a new contract to reward Iraola for his work last season taking the Cherries to the brink of European qualification.

Whoever arrives risks walking into an unhappy dressing room, with a number of players understood to be "shell-shocked" by Postecoglou's departure.

Record: 'Deal done' to take Silva to Spurs
Portuguese sports tabloid Record claims that Marco Silva is 'very close' to being confirmed as Tottenham Hotspur's new manager.

That flies in the face of reports from England and around the rest of Europe that say that Brentford boss Thomas Frank is Spurs' preferred choice to succeed Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked earlier this afternoon. The Bees are braced for an approach for their Danish head coach, who has worked with Tottenham's sporting director Johan Lange when both were at Lyngby.

Record cites 'our own information' in their report – but David Ornstein, Matt Law and Fabrizio Romano all have Frank as the frontrunner. Silva is highly regarded by the Tottenham board, but Fulham remain confident that he will commit his future to the club by signing a long-term contract at Craven Cottage. The Portuguese head coach has told the press and his players that he will be in charge next season, despite speculation that he has seen him linked to the Spurs job, Juventus and a move to Saudi Arabia.

Academy boss Elias - who developed Bale and Alexander-Arnold - dies

Malcolm Elias joined Fulham in 2009

Malcolm Elias, the man responsible for developing Gareth Bale and Trent Alexander-Arnold, has died after a short illness.
Elias, Fulham's head of academy recruitment, joined the Premier League club from Liverpool in 2009, having previously worked at Southampton.

In a statement, Fulham said: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our colleague and dear friend, Malcolm Elias, after a short illness.

"The club's head of academy recruitment, Malcolm had a fantastic reputation in football for unearthing and nurturing young talent.

"The influence that Malcolm had on the modern game cannot be understated, having worked with and developed the likes of Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliott, Luke Harris and Jay Stansfield, to name but a few."

Welshman Elias was born in 1953 and was key in the development of his compatriot Bale at the Southampton academy.

Bale went on to win 111 Wales caps and enjoyed a successful club career with Saints, Tottenham and Real Madrid, where he won five Champions League titles.

England's Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, won eight major trophies with boyhood club Liverpool before joining Real Madrid earlier this month.

"We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Malcolm Elias, one of the influential figures in the club's youth development history," Southampton said.

Spurs 'seriously considering Silva'
The ipaper's Kat Lucas and Mark Douglas report that Tottenham Hotspur are 'seriously considering' Fulham head coach Marco Silva as a candidate to replace the sacked Ange Postecoglou.

Their story also quotes Spurs sources suggesting that the appointment of Brentford boss Thomas Frankly, widely regarded as the frontrunner to succeed the Australian at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, is 'no done deal'. Both candidates would require a hefty payment from Tottenham to their current employers. Frank had a £10m release clause written in to the new deal he signed with Brentford in 2022, whilst Silva's release clause is believed to be in the region of £6m. Paying off Postecoglou is reported to have cost Tottenham around £4m.

Lucas and Douglas also disclose that Fulham remain in talks with Silva over extending his current contract at Craven Cottage, which has a year left. They state that 'no agreement has been reached' yet. The Portuguese head coach, who rejected an another approach from Saudi Arabia in the final week of the Premier League season, has also interested Serie A side Juventus of late – but insisted he would be managing Fulham next season following their final day defeat to Manchester City.

Tottenham 'very close' to appointing Marco Silva as Ange Postecoglou's replacement
The race for the Tottenham managerial hot seat has undergone a major twist, with Marco Silva emerging as the frontrunner to replace Ange Postecoglou, according to multiple outlets.

Since Postecoglou's sacking was confirmed on Friday, it has been widely reported that Thomas Frank had emerged as Tottenham's top choice.

Various sources reported that Spurs are ready to advance in talks with Frank over the coming days as the club aims to quickly fill the vacancy.

However, things now appear to be changing, with multiple outlets suggesting that Silva is now emerging as the leading contender for the N17 hot seat.

Tottenham seriously considering appointing Marco Silva
According to inews, Tottenham's move for Frank is far from a done deal yet, with the Lilywhites also 'seriously considering' a move for the Fulham boss.

The report claims that Silva has long-term admirers at Spurs and has been sounded out by the club on more than one occasion over recent years.

In fact, it is alleged that he was one of the candidates on Tottenham's radar to replace Antonio Conte in 2023 before they eventually turned to Postecoglou.

The Portuguese coach's representatives have now been sounded out by Spurs again, with the 47-year-old emerging as a strong alternative for Frank.

Spurs 'very close' to appointing the Fulham manager
A report in Record takes it a step further and claims that Marco Silva is 'very close' to taking the Tottenham job after being contacted by the North Londoners.

The outlet claims that an agreement between the Fulham boss and Spurs is now on the cusp of being finalised, with the former Everton boss set to make a move across London.

This is despite the fact Silva has already announced that he will be at Craven Cottage next season.

Huge Marco Silva next Tottenham manager claim as agreement 'very close'
Spurs will make an announcement soon over their next head coach

Tottenham are in the market for a new manager after chairman Daniel Levy made the ruthless decision to sack Ange Postecoglou on Friday evening.

Little more than two weeks on from Spurs' incredible UEFA Europa League triumph in Bilbao, Spain, Postecoglou was sent packing and attention immediately turns to who will take over in N17.

Thomas Frank is the overwhelming favourite, with Spurs reportedly in talks with the Brentford boss even before the news of the Australian's sacking on Friday night.

But there are more names in the frame to replace Postecoglou, and reports in Portugal actually suggest another boss is "very close" to taking over - Marco Silva.

Silva has been the Fulham manager for the past four seasons, turning the Whites into an established Premier League club. Prior to that he enjoyed spells at Everton, Watford and Hull in England.

The Portuguese has been linked with a number of bigger jobs in the past few years, given his work at Craven Cottage and could now be on track to take over in north London.

Record in Portugal, via Sport Witness, state: "Marco Silva is set to swap Fulham for Tottenham. Marco Silva is very close to taking over as Tottenham coach.

"Record knows that the agreement between the parties is close to being reached and everything suggests that the Portuguese coach will succeed Ange Postecoglou, who was fired yesterday.

Postecoglou prioritised the Europa League this season when there was no chance of finishing in the European places in the Premier League nor getting relegated from the top flight.

And it is clear in the Tottenham statement that challenging on multiple fronts is key for the new manager.

The Spurs statement read: "It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond. This has been one of the toughest decisions we have had to make and is not a decision that we have taken lightly, nor one we have rushed to conclude. We have made what we believe is the right decision to give us the best chance of success going forward, not the easy decision."

Manchester United rival Fulham in Joao Palhinha race, Bayern Munich ready to sell
Manchester United and Fulham are reportedly interested in signing 29-year-old Portuguese international Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Manchester United and Fulham are vying for Joao Palhinha heading into the summer transfer window. The 29-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder has struggled to make his mark since joining the Bavarian giants from Fulham in a deal worth £46 million last summer.

So, the newly crowned Bundesliga champions are ready to cut their losses on the Portuguese international in the summer transfer window. Bayern Munich will demand around £25 million to part ways with Palhinha. While Manchester United will pursue the player as a cost-effective option for the midfield unit, Fulham may need some financial help to afford a deal.

Joao Palhinha and his Bayern Munich bother
Joao Palhinha has seen his progress come to a stuttering halt since joining Bayern Munich from Fulham in a deal worth £46 million last summer. Die Roten chased the experienced midfielder for over a year before landing him, having failed to secure his services on the deadline day of the 2023 summer transfer window. However, the wait has not been worth it for Bayern.

The Portuguese international barely made his mark at Bayern Munich in the 2024/25 season and could not even manage 1,000 minutes of game time across 24 appearances in all competitions. However, the 29-year-old remains a hot property in the market, with several Premier League clubs, including Bayern Munich and Manchester United, keen on signing him in the summer transfer window.

Premier League return on the horizon?
Fulham's interest in Joao Palhinha makes sense. The Cottagers are scouring the market for a dynamic midfielder amid uncertainties surrounding Andreas Pereira's long-term future. So, their former midfielder has emerged as a viable target. However, Fulham might not have the resources to afford Bayern Munich's asking price of £25 million.

As for Manchester United, Christian Eriksen will officially depart from Old Trafford as a free agent in a few days. In addition, Casemiro faces an uncertain future at Manchester United. So, the Red Devils need a new midfielder, considering Manuel Ugarte has blown hot and cold in the 2024/25 season. Palhinha is thus a viable target.

The Red Devils view the 29-year-old Portuguese international as a cost-effective option to bolster their midfield unit. Bayern Munich's asking price of £25 million makes Palhinha an attractive target, and it will be interesting to see where he lands amid his links with Fulham and Bayern Munich.

Thomas Frank, Marco Silva lead Tottenham shortlist - sources
Brentford boss Thomas Frank and Fulham manager Marco Silva lead Tottenham Hotspur's shortlist to replace Ange Postecoglou, with Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola also under consideration, sources have told ESPN.

Postecoglou guided Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years, beating Manchester United in last month's Europa League final -- a result that also secured Champions League qualification for next season. However, he also oversaw 22 league defeats -- the worst Premier League record for a team to avoid relegation -- as Tottenham finished 17th last season, leading to his dismissal on Friday.

Frank has impressed at Brentford since getting them promoted to the Premier League in 2020-21. Last season they finished 10th with 56 points.

The Dane, working on a small budget, has also developed several players into standout Premier League performers, such as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, as well as recovering from the departures of Ivan Toney and David Raya, who were key members of his squad.

Silva, meanwhile, who has managed in the Premier League with Hull City, Watford and Everton previously, got Fulham promoted in 2021-22 as champions before establishing them in the division.

Iraola has caught the eye at Bournemouth, finishing above both Brentford and Fulham last season, beating Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, Manchester United and Newcastle United along the way.

Marco Silva vying with Thomas Frank for Tottenham job as Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi rejects Spurs approach to replace Ange Postecoglou
Fulham boss Marco Silva will battle for the Spurs job with Brentford's Thomas Frank after Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi declined an approach.

    Spurs sacked Postecoglou this week
Silva being eyed for the role along with Frank
De Zerbi rejects offer in favour of Marseille stay

WHAT HAPPENED?

According to a report from Portuguese outlet Record, Fulham head coach Silva is close to reaching an agreement with Tottenham to replace the sacked Ange Postecoglou. Although the decision has not been made final, Silva will be vying for the role at Spurs with Brentford boss Frank, who the media in UK claim to be in pole position to take charge of the north London outfit.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Despite leading Spurs to their first trophy since 2008, firing them to Europa League glory two weeks ago, Spurs decided to relieve Postecoglou of his duties in what came as a shocking move. The Australian oversaw Spurs' worst Premier League finish as they finished in 17th place with only 38 points. In the aftermath of his sacking, several Premier League managers such as Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola and Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner have also been linked with the role, although Frank and Silva seem to be the top two candidates as things stand.

DID YOU KNOW?

The higher-ups at Spurs have also looked for suitable replacements overseas. Indeed, Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi was also approached by the Lilywhites, but Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Italian rejected the advances from the Europa League champions in favour of continuing at Stade Velodrome for at least another season.

WHAT NEXT FOR SPURS?

While Frank might be the favourite to take over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a reunion with USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino has not been ruled out. It remains to be seen who Spurs end up appointing, especially considering the financial challenges involved in the pursuit of the aforementioned Premier League managers.

Birmingham City pulled a blinder with £2.25m Fulham deal - It ended a 38-year hoodoo
Birmingham City ended a 39-year hoodoo when they raided Fulham for a striker who would go on to become a club legend in the form of Geoff Horsfield.

By the turn of the new millennium, it had been 14 years since Birmingham had last played in the top flight and almost four decades since they'd last reached a cup final. But in the summer of 2000, they made a signing that would come to change the shape of the club's future.

Trevor Francis had been in charge of the team since 1996, but the team had got stuck in Division One of the Football League - now the Championship - and had lost in the 1999 play-offs to Watford in the semi-finals on penalty kicks.

Geoff Horsfield had worked his way up from the bottom
Geoff Horsfield started his playing career in non-league football, balancing that with his job in the construction industry. His playing career almost ended prematurely with a knee injury in 1996 while playing for Witton Albion, but when he recovered from that he joined Halifax Town - for a second time - and he only turned fully professional when they were promoted into the Football League.

His goals helped power Halifax into the League, and seven goals in his first ten games in Division Three attracted the attention of Fulham, who paid £300,000 to take him to Craven Cottage. The goals kept flowing; 15 goals in 28 games as Fulham won the Second Division title by 14 points, and a further 14 in all competitions the following season.

But Fulham were changing, and when he arrived as the new manager in July 2000, the former French international Jean Tigana decided that Horsfield didn't fit the profile of striker that he wanted and put him up for sale. Birmingham had an offer of £2.25m accepted for him.

Horsfield became a player with a taste for the big occasion
His impact at St Andrew's was almost immediate. His goals helped to fire Birmingham into the play-offs, although they lost in the semi-finals to Preston North End on penalties.

More importantly, though, he got them to a cup final for the first time in 38 years. Birmingham hadn't reached one since the 1963 League Cup final, but Horsfield scored twice in their League Cup semi-final second leg against Ipswich to force the tie into extra-time. Further goals from Martin Grainger and Andrew Johnson finished the job off. In the final, Horsfield had been substituted by the time Liverpool won the penalty shoot-out 5-4 after a 1-1 draw.

The following season, the Blues went one better in the League. Stern John signed that summer from Nottingham Forest, and formed a lethal partnership up front with Horsfield, taking them to fifth place in the table.

And this time Birmingham successfully negotiated their way through the play-offs. In the final, they played Norwich City and the score was still blank at 90 minutes. Norwich took the lead a minute into extra-time, but Horsfield equalised 11 minutes later and Birmingham won the penalty shoot-out 4-2 to secure a return to the top flight for the first time since 1986.

Horsfield didn't lose his appetite for the big occasion upon promotion to the Premier League. He scored his first top-flight goal against Aston Villa in September, and when they played the return match at Villa Park the following March, he ended up in goal. Birmingham won 2-0 to complete their first League double over their bitter rivals since the 1977-78 season.

But by the end of that season, Horsfield's time at St Andrew's was coming to an end. Steve Bruce had replaced Francis in December 2001 and Bruce preferred to use him as an impact substitute. Frustrated at a lack of game time, he started the 2003-04 season for Birmingham, but transferred to Wigan Athletic for £500,000 in September 2003. He'd go on to play for West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United, Lincoln City and Port Vale, before retiring in 2010.

These were heady times at St Andrew's and Horsfield became a legend as a result. Through their first cup final in almost 60 years and promotion back to the top flight for the first time in 17 years, he was a central character, always there to score the important goal. As they embark on an attempt to get back into the Premier League again, Birmingham fans may be wishing they had someone of his calibre leading their front line this time around.

Marco Silva closing in on Tottenham move
Fulham boss Marco Silva is all set to join rivals Tottenham Hotspur as their new manager ahead of next season.

According to Record via SportWitness, Marco Silva is all set to become the new Tottenham manager. The Portuguese tactician is set to swap Fulham for the North London giants this summer. While Spurs have been linked with other top Premier League managers, they are on the verge of reaching an agreement to appoint Silva.

The 47-year-old has already managed four English clubs in his career and Spurs could end up being the fifth on his list. While he did have very short spells at Hull City and Watford, he did spend around 18 months at Everton before taking charge at Fulham.

After a break of over a year, Silva returned to management with the Fulham job in the summer of 2021. He has done quite an impressive job at the London club over the years and it has put him on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs.

With his contract running out in a year's time, there was already a lot of talk about his future. While Fulham looked keen on tying him down to a new deal, they might not have to look for a new manager as he is close to joining rivals Tottenham.

The North London club finally parted ways with Ange Postecoglou on Friday just weeks after he led them to the Europa League title. Spurs could only manage a 17th-placed finish in the league and their poor performances throughout the campaign had put the Australian under immense pressure.

While winning the Europa League did help his cause, it wasn't enough for Daniel Levy and his team to continue having him on their bench. It wasn't that easy a decision but they have finally decided to part ways with him after a two-year-long spell.

Marco Silva to be the new Tottenham manager?
Spurs have already been looking for a new manager for some time now. Reports in England have linked them with Thomas Frank and Andoni Iraola. While both are quality options, the report from Record suggests Spurs are set to appoint Silva who has been doing wonders at Fulham over the years.

His attacking style of play and his track record have impressed the Spurs chief's and they are already working to get a deal over the line. Silva is on the verge of becoming their new boss. Both parties are on the verge of reaching an agreement and everything suggests the Portuguese manager will succeed Postecoglou at Tottenham.
