Going to be a very tough game.  They were better than us at our place.  They're now in strong form and playing very well at Elland Road.

I agree it's going to be a tough game, but I don't agree they were better than us. They created absolutely nothing in that game and we created a lot of chances once Kevin came on and if anyone deserved to win it was us.

I think it'll move around by the looks of things, we look pretty fluid at the moment. Flick ball in full effect with the balls up to Raul to flick round corner to Wilson again. Thats becoming a clear theme.

really interesting set up this week

We seem to be playing in a way that we almost have wilson as Support striker in moments even sometimes looking like a 4-3-3 in moments with one of sess or esr dropping back and in if the other is attacking. Definitely something new

My observation in this game is that Cuenca and Anderson do not look comfortable teaming up at the back. They appear unsteady and slow decision making. With Bassey not available, it is what it is.

I think Kevin needs to come on for Sess at half time. Sess barely got on the ball and he lost it every time pretty much in the few times he had it.

Lost our way really

Good news is when we stop giving the ball away needlessly they arent producing anything
But attack that started brightly has fallen off really.

Sess definitely the least effective of the bunch. Kevin for him I guess would be the move with Wilson going right and ESR central again 60 mins in

Why Lukic? Had perhaps the best chance of the game after a clever run and made a nice pass to Sess at the end of the half in the second phase of a dangerous corner he took.

Sess I agree 100%. He's really struggling at the moment.

Hey

Credit to Silva for trying something idifferent. I think perhaps with Chuk at RW this could be interesting.

But second half I'd give it 15mins and if we're still not making much then go back to our normal formation with Kev on and TC in for Lukic given he's now on a yellow
Title: Re: Leeds (A) Saturday17/01
Post by: First State on January 17, 2026, 03:50:37 PM
If we don't improve in the second half, Leeds will net one or two.
Title: Re: Leeds (A) Saturday17/01
Post by: Fulham 1879 on January 17, 2026, 03:51:04 PM
That was pedestrian. Poor passing and no grip on midfield. Largely anonymous and infective performances from Sess and Berge. Anderson and Leno looked shaky at times.
Title: Re: Leeds (A) Saturday17/01
Post by: WindyCity on January 17, 2026, 03:51:51 PM
Rather poor first half, Leeds probably the better side
Leno dodgy
Not sure how this switch on the wings is working out (Wilson/Sessegnon), not very good so far

I viewed this match as a tough one, felt a bit better v Liverpool and Chelsea, albeit home games.  I'm hoping for three points of course, but at HT I'd settle for a draw in this match.

Not sure I agree with that. We weren't great, but we were a pass away or a better shot away from carving them open 4-5 times. Only chances Leeds had were after our terrible mistakes.

I hated it when I saw Sess starting on the wing when the lineup dropped and nothing in the last 45 minutes has changed my opinion. He should not be starting for us on the wing unless we have no other options. He's not a winger.

Up to 19th minute we were ok but then Leeds tore up Marco's game plan and peed on it , as soon as they got the ball to bounce and bobble we turned to water and lost control of the game . Leno having a stinker and everyone else has gone missing in action

Yeah agreed. TBH I'd rather see Sess moved to the left / ESR middle / Harry right form the start of the second half. Missed the first 15 mins but Sess was on the right a lot / Harry middle and wasn't working.

Guessing Berge an Lukic starting in the middle to match Leed's physicality but dare I say we've missed TC's control of the ball / play in midfield. Maybe we lose something off the ball sometimes but we generally have so much more of the ball in midfield when he plays.

But unlike the Everton match for example, that was his only foul. I don't think he's in danger of getting a red. He played on a yellow plenty of times (which isn't surprising considering the amount of yellows he's had in the past). I'd keep him on.

Over-reaction IMO.  Not a great game but we are showing more (occasional) glimpses of class and have had some 'nearlies'.  Just one good through pass could chage things completely.  Keep the faith.

Good news is when we stop giving the ball away needlessly they arent producing anything
But attack that started brightly has fallen off really.

Sess definitely the least effective of the bunch. Kevin for him I guess would be the move with Wilson going right and ESR central again 60 mins in

It looked like it could work when we actually managed the clear game plan which is fizzed or lofted ball into Rual dropping short, lay off or flick through to wilson in on goal. If raul hade angled his pass better Wilson should have been through on goal and in his form youd back him to score. Didn't happen though and then we just fell off a cliff and lost composure.

I can see what Silvas aiming here and actually dont mind that he's tried something tactically interesting. But...Given our recent record, if it aint broke and all that...maybe after 15 we just go back to what we know and let Kevin loose given his debut performance against them.

Start the 2nd half with Wilson right and Sess left. Consider subbing Berge for TC. If that doesn't work out then sub Sess off for Kevin.

Because the few times he got on the ball he lost it. Had a very poor first touch and shot late in the half too. He had by far the fewest amount of touches and only Robinson lost possession most times than him. Very poor half from Sess.

Yes but he's played maybe a handful of times in his career as a RW. Would rather give him time on the left start of 2nd half and then take him off for Kevin on the hour if no improvement.

I think his best games last season were on the right wing. I do think that his position is a part of the problem today, but the bigger is him not being sharp enough today, maybe to do with his recent injury

Maybe the change of shape will work better actually. It suits Castagne more for example.

Completely wrong formation tonight.
We look far better with Wilson in behind Jiminez.

I don't care what formation we have behind that.. Christmas tree... diamond.. praying mantis.. just get Wilson central behind Jiminez and not on the far right touchline. He's wasted there.

I am flabbergasted Silva still fails to see he's wasting Wilson in that wide position. Get him on the edge of the penalty area.. for gods sake.

Marco tried something

It failed miserably in the end. Poor day at the office all round.

Thank god we have reinforcements on the way with Iwobi and Chuk cos our attack looks knackered

Wilson too wide.. and too defensive for 65 minutes with the Berge/Lukic central duo. I've never seen us play well with those two as a duo. Keep Lukic on as a the enforcer and put Cairney alongside the full game.

Games like this are why Silva won't get a big job, just doesn't know how to wrestle us back into games when we're miles off it from how he's set us up

To be fair weve pulled back multiple game from behind.

But today he messed with a winning formula and we absolute stunk up the place.

Back home we come and hopefully with the Nigerian boys back we have a renewed energy and can strike back with a win next week.

Terrible game - 30% possession and 80% of the passes backwards , as soon as Leeds made the ball bounce and bobble we left the pitch and went home . No idea what Silva's game plan was

Really didn't like the first half wings played opposite.  I had thought that Robinson Sessegnon had a good working relationship down that left side and that was nullified with the switch.  FFC outplayed in this game, very few, if any, decent scoring chances.  Oh well, on to the next game

In fairness, this is not the same Leeds team we saw earlier this year. They have made a strong turnaround. That, and we just seem unable to keep a clean sheet. We are a striker and a #10 away from being European material.

We're not gonna play well in every game but god that was dire by dire standards. I thought it may be something with the pitch but no one controlled the ball and all passes were made at walking pace.
