We are showing them too much respect. We need to start playing and not sitting back

Is the plan to stick 10 men behind the ball until we go 2-0 down?

At least give it a go.. bring on Chuk and King now.

Poor free kick from Lukic, luckily Harry was alert. Good work from Berge, Lukic and Raul before that free kick though.

We won't score many goals if we keep the ball in our own half...
Title: Re: Man City (H) Tuesday 02/12
Post by: Milo on December 02, 2025, 07:44:29 PM
I suspect the idea is that Chuk and King won't last the full 90 after their exploits at the weekend and poor fitness levels at baseline (as King is young, and Chuk didn't get much of a pre season).

So.. Silva wants the "grafters" on eg Lukic, Berge, and ESR (after his weekend performance chasing down lost causes, putting pressure on defenders etc) until the 60th minute. If we can survive til then he will "roll the dice" and bring on our "big guns" as a final push.

Question is - will we survive til 60 mins? If we concede before half time it's a mountain to climb against City.

Woeful defending. Bassey lost Haaland and Leno ducked out the way. Why do we always give so much respect when we play city? Liverpool, Arsenal etc we get stuck in. City we let them have the ball and drop off. Get Iwobi in the centre and Chuk on.
Title: Re: Man City (H) Tuesday 02/12
Post by: Milo on December 02, 2025, 07:51:19 PM
Danger of going 2-0 down before HT.. introduction of Chuk and King will be arbitrary then..

Bring them on in next 10 mins if no change in our fortunes or else we are toast.

Clearly Fulham need better CBs.   I mean..some of the conceded goals are shockingly poor defending.

Not going to put that all on Sess because I don't see how no CB knew where Harland was at.

I can't stand city, not because it's city but because we always play the same way against them, giving them far too much respect. For once I'd like us to really take the challenge to them but it never seems to be the case.

I don't think there's any doubt about which is the better team, as you'd expect with their resources, but apart from Haaland we are dealing with them quite well so far. I can't see us keeping up with their intensity for another 6o+ minutes though. I think this is one of those games where our boys have got to enjoy themselves as much as possible and hopefully be competitive where it counts.

His first touch and passing is uncharacteristically poor. He might not be an extremely progressive passer, but even some of the simple passes seem to be overhit today. And as I said, poor first touch 2 or 3 times already. He looked great against Spurs too, not sure what's the problem today.

I don't know why he changed the line up from Spurs really. Berge and Lukic  together gives us nothing in way of creativity. Its not helping defensively either. We are 2 down and it could be 3 or 4.

We mess around and pass backwards far too much. Our back passes put us in trouble. We seem allergic to shooting. The end of the half...time running out and we faf around at the edge of the box and then back and sideways pass...result? Whistle blows half time.
Have a go for god's sake!!!

Lukic adds absolutely nothing to this team.

We almost broke away after the ESR goal, loads of spare players on the left. Lukic gets it and passes backwards. I really do feel that a lot of our terrible performances this season is because of the CM pairing of lukic and berge and on sat Berge put in a great performance alongside Iwobi. So lukic not only affects himself, he negatively affects players around him

Why did we pass the ball between our defenders there? We've had City on the ropes in the final 3-4 minutes, we should have pushed them hard and tried to get a second goal.

On the gane itself, I thought we contained them quite well for the most of it and conceded the first two goals due to terrible defending from Bassey and Andersen and their third was just a superb strike. Our attackers and midfielders closed their passing lanes well, but our cb pairing let them down.

Lukic's passing and first touch were both atrocious. Arguably worst of any Fulham player this season. I do think he pressed well though, but that doesn't negate his poor passing and first touch, not by a long shot.

Finally, ESR had a great performance. Both on the ball and off it. Only player that looked like scoring too and his finish was superb.

ESR has been superb. Gets himself into tiny pockets in the penalty box and has scored one, very nearly another, and a couple of efforts.  I mean, he's done more in this half than Josh King has done in all of his starts. An early goal woukd be nice.

Lukic for Chuk at half time. Iwobi moves to the centre and Chuk on left wing.

Because he set up in a negative formation to contain City, and it didn't work. We've been giving the ball away in soft areas because Lukic and Berge when played together recycle the ball negatively, and Lukic has dropped a stinker. That's before we even get onto the CB's also looking like they've spent the afternoon in the pub as well, you can't look at that performance and say that were looking to do anything in particular other than just exist on the pitch

Stats back up my comments regarding Lukic. Game high duels won 4/5 and joint highest tackles won 2/2,but he lost possession 10 times and poor passing percentage 74%. Not sure what happened there, as he looked sharp against Spurs.

Chukwueze and Castagne coming on for Lukic and Tete. Good subs, imo.

Probably doing it for his Arsenal mates to some extent, he looks to have a bit of fire about him for a change, it's good to see, hope he takes this forward.

What's up with the "clear and obvious error"? If they have to look at it for 5 minutes it's not a clear and obvious error.

Marco was to "respectful" and "Negative" needs to attack and have a go at sides, do like Bournemouth have been, we have the players to hurt sides, tired of being scared to bloody have a go at opposition.

Unlucky lads. 2nd half so much better. Why oh why do we persist with Lukic/Berge pivot. Attack sides like this.  Play on front foot. Let's hope Marco learns from this. His tactics to sit back can only lead to defeat. In the end we had too much to do
