Thought he was outstanding on the 90 minute re-watch. What a talent we have.
For all my moanings at the club's business this summer, signing him on was key so very pleased we have him tied down and it's not going to be another O'Riley/Elliott situation.
Interesting he sort of played the 8 rather than 10 and looked brilliant.

Really? I thought he was clearly the one furthest forward in the midfield three and often appeared on the wing too. I'm fairly certain that Berge was 6, TC 8 and King 10. I do agree, however, that he played well.
He was really effective and made a great impact on the team.

The truth is he was everywhere, which is what an 8 should do. Berge was 6 but TC doesn't have the legs to get up and down like King did.

Imo he played exactly the way a no 10 plays in our system. I don't think he tracked back nearly as much as an 8 in our system does. He played in a pretty similar way to AP in the first two seasons. TC was very clearly the 8, in my opinion.
Reminds me of a young Luka Modrić.
The big thing is that he is very confident in receiving and moving with the ball. He runs into dead ends sometimes but you need to have some players that have to composure to recieve the ball and not be in a hurry to get rid of it in forward positions.
King seems to have the best first touch of him AP and ESR, but that may also be because AP and ESR get rustier in off-season as King had the youth euros to play.

I think we know ESR's potential, what we don't know is can he reach it 🤔
I hope we move on AP, he's a more obvious blocker for King than ESR given ESR can play on the wing. ESR also scores more goals and has more room to develop.

I think this is harsh on AP, he's not very limited, you don't play for Brazil if you're very limited. However, he just doesn't offer enough in attack for me and he's not going to improve in that respect. ESR has time on his side.

His ceiling is huge and I hope he gets meaningful minutes this year
But, he is still very slight and probably needs more muscle on him to compete at this level week in week out against grown men. His quality and football IQ is there to see but I can only imagine how scary he could* get once he grows physically.

Yeah agreed. Why I said obviously a hell of a long way to go to get to that level but I'm absolutely loving what I see in terms of raw talent for someone so young. ::thumb::

Doubtless supporters will get on his back a bit, happens almost all the time.
Agree with you that we need to manage expectations. He looks brilliant, but there's a lot of hype around him for someone who has just broken through and is yet to make a really major breakthrough.

When Fabio Carvalho had lulls he was still praised. Last one I can recall getting an undeserved amount of stick is Dan Burn.

We must continue like this. Getting on his back will just be so detrimental to his development so young so got to continue to support him even when he has a spell of poor form

Regarding Sess, which season are you referring to? If it's 2018-19 he was just 18 and still managed 8 goal contributions. Hardly anonymous.
Carvalho always worked hard and contributed regardless of whether he got goals or assists.

You may want to read what I wrote again if you see it as me having a grievance.
The point is that even when they weren't performing at their peak during the time they were playing nobody was getting on their case. I don't think there is much risk that King is going to get booed off the pitch and scapegoated if he has a bad couple of games. This is a good thing.
