Did a little more digging (after reading the story) and found this entry on a wiki page concerning the Women's FA Cup tournament, founded in 1970:

It's a lovely story isn't it...reminds me a bit of Ellie Kildunne, as a child she had to play rugby with boy's - as there wasn't a local girls team
