Don't want to turn this political but no one boycotted Qatar when all their stadiums were built using third world slave labour so I doubt any will this time.

I believe that Denmark can still qualify, if so, they could lead the way.

I fully understand your point, but Qatar, for all their failings, were not looking to invade half of the western hemisphere. While there is considerable opposition building up against the manbaby's world domination schemes in the US, it has been pretty ineffectual up until now, largely hampered by the official opposition still playing politics as usual, rather than recognising they are hurtling towards either a full blown dictatorship or some sort of coup to remove him.

Maybe if FIFA had any morals they would lead the way by taking the games away from the US and letting Mexico and Canada run them, but they have Infantino awarding a peace prize to someone intent on starting several wars.

Maybe if everyone had boycotted the 1936 Berlin Olympics it might have slowed Adolf down, maybe not. Maybe if the England team that played an international in Germany around then had refused to give the Furher the Nazi salute, it would have said we will not kowtow to people like you. Who knows?

From what I can see, the man baby likes to think he is very popular (his comments in the summer about how he is regarded by Europeans as the President of Europe, for example) so maybe, just maybe if he finds lots of countries boycotting his World Cup, and the LA Olympics, it might just send his people a message.

There's next to no chance of any of the major footballing countries boycotting the WC. Everyone participated in Russia 2018 several years after their illegal invasion and occupation of parts of Ukraine. This is total clickbait.

It would be nice to think so but that doesn't seem to be the approach that's being taken as "we have to do business with them" and, when asked, Charles' planned visit is still to go ahead at this time.

Yes, we are also busy playing politics as usual too. Quite a few commentators on both sides of the pond are muttering about it being 1938 again. There are no easy answers, given our historical links and the extent we rely on munitions and spare parts from the US, but I have been saying for a year now that in an ideal world we would be cosying up to China (God help us) as they look like the adults in the room right now.

I appreciate that would be politically suicidal, but the alternative, sticking with the current arrangement, puts us at the mercy of an unhinged mind.

Actually, that is unfair. He is not unhinged, he is succeeding in his power grab, and nobody, us included, seems to be willing to face the new reality. The thing is, a brief perusal of his Project 2025 document lays all this out as his plan all along.

The calls are growing for the King to cancel his proposed US trip to celebrate their Declaration of Independence, and for William to boycott the World Cup. We shall see.

Perhaps Fifa could take their highly esteemed "Peace Prize" back from him.

Then the US might boycott the World Cup and save us all the trouble!

No , Teams won't boycott but the fans will, the current projection is only selling 30% of the offered tickets for games in the US . Given the wide ranging and extreme restrictions on anyone of colour regardless of what country your from , restrictions in general including religious, seizing peoples phones/ laptops etc etc etc people just don't want to be exposed to politically directed actions not only at airports but while they are at their Hotels, moving through cities, travelling to and from games etc etc . The US tourism market is staring now at a 100 Billion dollar black hole and growing, people in general want nothing to do with US and changing travel plans to either Canada or Mexico or more local places instead

The ever hideous, sycophantic, lickspittle, Infantino would absolutely slaughter any football federation that didn't show up, I am 100% certain of that.

Who ever thought that there would be a time where Blatter would be missed. Madness.

The mistake is to think that sending his people a message is either a new thing or something impactful. His people know he's hated by a lot of people. His people don't care. Rightly or wrongly: A boycott wouldn't bother them one bit.

I doubt any national football team could risk a boycott since FIFA would almost certainly penalise them. However I do expect that a lot of potential supporters will take the view that they do not wish to travel to the US to watch.

The trouble with all the big countries boycotting the World Cup is that it could end up with the USA winning it and then we'd never hear the end of it!

The world cup tickets are more than 3 times over subscribed, so don't see where the boycott is coming from.

Where anyone sees the competition being moved from the USA at this stage makes no logical sense.

Not really seeing the comparison between Hitler in 1936 and Trump now.

President of Europe? He might do a better job than the clowns running Europe right now.

Understand the uncomfortable political nature of the topic but it is football related .
We all " draw the line " in different places - and we won't all agree but this issue is a matter of genuine debate .

Where do you draw the line ?

It's a good point, but the FIFA Peace Prize thread was locked when that was an equally football relevant subject - the only reason that was political was because FIFA themselves chose to mix football and politics.

Sport and politics have always been inherently linked. Sometimes you just can't avoid it. I just suspect the mods will regard this subject as too political for a football forum.

I don't think there will be a boycott, but there may be a negative impact as many people may think twice about coming to the states. Couple that with the exorbitant ticket prices attendances could well be less than anticipated.

Totally get that - but surely if people can remain civil with each other ( respecting their opinion) then we should be able to have a civilised debate. It should not and does not need to get nasty
None of us can genuinely impact the outcome - but there are issues to be discussed and considered, Take for example Blingo ( fine character ) who I think lives in either Gibraltar or is it Malta - given his posting how would he feel about being taken over by a " foreign country " . It's interesting to understand what people are prepared to put up with.

There is no right answer - there never is but if it impacts the " beautiful game ' we surely all have an interest.

Gib Mr H. Been living the "another country" scenario since the "treaty of Utrecht" was signed lol.

I don't, with respect, think DT would be so concerned if a) Europe was strong enough to defend itself, and b) If Greenland gave the USA all mineral rights.
Title: Re: World Cup Boycott

There are two reasons I would like to see a boycott.
1. Ticket Prices. I hate the idea that fans are going to be feathering the nests of the greedy rulers of football who do absolutely nothing for the betterment of the game. No proper fans should go, its a con and way too expensive. The leaders of football are to put it bluntly crooked as the proverbial nine biob note.

2. US politics toward Greenland is a bridge too far. Trump is threatening a peacful state, a member of NATO. If this was a Chinese or Russian invasion, they would be thrown out of FIFA. This action is an open sesame for Russia do as it wants in Ukraine and for China with Taiwan and the Japanese island.

It's a shame for the players but Trump has gone way to far and needs to be stopped.

Moderator Statement on Football and Politics Discussion

As moderators, we have allowed this thread to progress in order to provide our members with the opportunity to voice their opinions. We recognize that football and politics often become intertwined, making it increasingly difficult to engage in meaningful discussions about various aspects of the sport without encountering political issues.

We believe that this is an important subject that deserves open conversation. However, we acknowledge the challenge it presents, as discussions about football and politics can sometimes lead to posts that are disrespectful toward other members.
