Man Utd predicted XI as they face Fulham in the Premier League fixture at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will have to make a change to their starting line up when they face Fulham in the Premier League this weekend.

Michael Carrick's side will hope to build upon impressive wins over Man City and Arsenal with another three points on Sunday afternoon, but will have to do so without one of their rejuvenated stars. Patrick Dorgu has scored in both matches under Carrick so far but is expected to spend roughly 10 weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

United are certain to make a change in attack and it will also be interesting to see whether Carrick alters their tactical approach for a match in which they will be expected to win. Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko will both hope to come into the starting line up and here is how we think they will look against Fulham.

1. GK - Senne Lammens
Lammens is the unsung hero of the United side and will start again.

2. CB - Harry Maguire
Maguire is in excellent form and will start in a centre-back role against Fulham.

3. CB - Lisandro Martinez
Martinez has reminded everyone just how good he is and remains an integral part of the side.

4. RB - Diogo Dalot
Dalot was good against Arsenal and there is no need for him to be dropped.

5. LB - Luke Shaw
Shaw has enjoyed a great season and is still the best option at left-back.

6. CM - Casemiro
Casemiro remains an irreplaceable member of the first-team squad and the only defensive midfield option.

7. CM - Kobbie Mainoo
Mainoo has been rejuvenated under Carrick and is a certainty to start in midfield.

8. CAM - Bruno Fernandes
Fernandes looks back to his best in attacking midfield and is a guaranteed starter.

9. RW - Bryan Mbeumo
Mbeumo should move to his favoured right wing role despite some good performances through the middle.

10. LW - Amad Diallo
Amad is the logical choice to replace Dorgu on the left wing from the very start.

11. ST - Matheus Cunha
Cunha should come back into the starting line up and would be a good fit for the fluid forward line.

Match Preview: Manchester United vs. Fulham
Manchester United are looking to extend our unbeaten Premier League run to seven games, when welcoming Fulham to Old Trafford on Sunday.

The 14:00 GMT kick-off comes on the back of our superb victories against Manchester City and Arsenal, with Michael Carrick enjoying a 100 per cent record since becoming head coach earlier this month.

Fulham are in good form, themselves, moving up to seventh in the table and it promises to be a test against Marco Silva's Cottagers.

United have only lost one of our last 20 Premier League clashes with the west Londoners, although they did knock us out of the Emirates FA Cup last season, winning a penalty shootout at Old Trafford.

Fulham also won at the Theatre of Dreams in February 2024, despite a goal from Harry Maguire.

The Reds have scored one goal in each of our last six outings against the Cottagers and skipper Bruno Fernandes has five strikes to his name against them.

In the reverse fixture in the capital, our first away game of the campaign, the final scoreline was 1-1, with Muniz's own goal, initially looking to be Leny Yoro's first Premier League strike, levelled by Emile Smith Rowe.

We await an official update on Patrick Chinazaekpere, after he was withdrawn in some discomfort, following his amazing goal, in the 3-2 win at Arsenal.

Noussair Mazraoui, back from Africa Cup of Nations duty, came off the bench late on to make his first appearance since the win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on 8 November.

Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee were unavailable for the Emirates Stadium victory, when Carrick named an unchanged line-up from the derby success against City.

As for the visitors, Sasa Lukic has picked up a thigh injury and Rodrigo Muniz, who scored an own goal in the reverse fixture, is also set to miss out.

However, defender Kenny Tete could return.

Adama Traore has completed a move across the capital to West Ham United.

Tottenham and Man Utd handed 'clue' over Premier League manager's future after £27m transfer
Spurs and Manchester United could both be in the market for a new manager this summer with the Fulham boss linked.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have been given a potential blow in their hopes of appointing Fulham head coach Marco Silva this summer after the latest splurge from the London outfit.

Thomas Frank remains in charge in North London with the latest Champions League victory hushing talk of a potential sacking for now, even if Premier League form continues to stutter. Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, Michael Carrick is only an interim replacement for Ruben Amorim with a permanent decision pending in the summer.

Silva's contract at Craven Cottage, which he signed in October 2023, is set to expire at the end of the current campaign. The Portuguese boss has been offered a new deal by Fulham but is yet to put pen to paper on an extension.

The 48-year-old has impressed with his work at Fulham since arriving in the summer of 2021. Silva immediately took the side to the Premier League by winning the Championship in 2022 and has gone on to cement the club's status in the top flight.

The former Everton and Watford coach has expressed his frustration with a lack of transfer backing in recent windows, which is believed to have led to difficulty in agreeing that new contract.

However, Fulham have made serious transfer moves in January. The club have splurged £27 million on Manchester City winger Oscar Bobb in a piece of serious investment in the winter window.

The Cottagers beat competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United to land the deal for the highly rated 22-year-old. According to Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony, that spend will have only come if there is confidence that Silva will extend his time on the banks of The Thames.

Speaking on Sky Sports FC on Thursday, MacAnthony said: "I like it. Good business. They're going to sign two or three very good players before the window closes. It's more faith to try and get the manager to stay. They aren't going to spend £50-£60 million without some commitment from the manager."

The Bobb transfer could therefore be a clue that Silva won't be easy to poach for Spurs or Manchester United this summer. Football Insider this month carried the latest reports of interest in the manager's services from those two sides.

In his latest comments on his future, Silva was asked if his departure from Craven Cottage could be linked to the potential exit of Harry Wilson as a free agent. He replied: "Not at all. I don't know where it comes from – it's just a nice way, and probably the easiest way to start to put something out.

"I don't know if it's just a rumour. I don't believe that something like that will come from Harry or from his camp really. I'm 100% sure that Harry isn't going to use any excuse, if he needs any excuse. A professional like him is not going to need any excuse to take care of his future."

George Best's brief spell at Fulham, a dream debut and hundreds of cheering Man Utd fans
George Best signed for Fulham in the Second Division two years after leaving Manchester United. It came as a shock transfer that would see the former Ballon d'Or winner return to England from the United States.

After 13 years at Manchester United, graduating from the youth academy and starring in the 1968 European Cup-winning side under Sir Matt Busby, George Best became a journeyman as far as football was concerned.

At the age of 28, Best had turned his back on a glittering career at United when the pressure of the limelight became too much, especially at a time he had off-field struggles.

Best would score 178 goals in 466 games for United before leaving the club, but his pace was gone by the time he arrived at Fulham in 1976.

Fulham were getting a marvellous player, still capable of scoring goals as he would go on to prove, but he had his troubles and wasn't the player he was in the late 60s.

A transfer from Los Angeles Aztecs led to a dream start for Best at Fulham. The Northern Ireland winger scored just 71 seconds into his debut for the Second Division side.

Best struck a partnership with former QPR and Man City forward Rodney Marsh during his time at Craven Cottage, with the pair being the biggest names playing for Fulham at the time, along with England icon Bobby Moore.

During his brief spell at Fulham, which ended in late 1977, Best made 47 appearances and scored 10 goals.

United didn't have any meetings against Fulham while Best played for the club, but that didn't stop fans from following their icon if away trips to London made it possible.

The arrival of Best caused a sensation. He wasn't the player who mesmerised defenders and crowds alike during his United years, but he was still better than a lot of the players he shared a pitch with.

Best brought the crowds to Craven Cottage. He was the biggest show in town, and a few hundred United fans took advantage of that when a trip to QPR was cancelled just hours before kick-off.

Fulham dented Oldham Athletic's promotion hopes with a 5-0 win on the day, despite tricky conditions at Craven Cottage during a harsh winter.

United fan and author Pete Molyneux recalls the trip for United In Focus, after travelling to Loftus Road with fellow Reds.

"I had a van and took about 10-15 lads down there," Molyneux said.

"The game [against QPR] got called off about an hour or so before kick-off. We're in London and heading towards Shepherd's Bush and we had two choices: Arsenal vs Newcastle or Fulham vs Oldham.

"You'd normally pick Arsenal versus Newcastle as it was a top-flight game, but Georgie Best was playing for Fulham. We went and so did a lot of other Reds, in the Craven Cottage End, cheering Bestie on.

"Fulham won 5-0 but I don't think Bestie scored. We just cheered him on and gave him extra support. There were a few hundred Reds there that day in December 1976."

Two years on from when Best last kicked a ball for United, the fans still idolised him. That remains the case to this day as we celebrate his life with each passing anniversary.

Molyneux added how Best was seen by United fans in 1976, shortly after leaving the club, which proves he will be forever cherished by United fans.

"He was then, even two years after he had left, and still now, a great hero," he said.

"Timeless with the gifts he had as a footballer. Loved as a man as well."

Manchester United Review – Issue 15
In the 15th issue of Manchester United Review, the legendary journalist David Meek wrote about United fans watching Best play for Fulham at Craven Cottage in December 1976.

In a column discussing 'club topics', Meek, who worked for the Manchester Evening News, describes a 'magic moment' involving club icon Best.

Meek wrote: "Manchester United fans rallied behind Oldham when their own match at Queen's Park Rangers was frozen off.

"Several hundred made their way to Fulham to see near-neighbours Oldham in action.

"Sadly there wasn't much for them to cheer about as the Latics crashed 5-0, but at least they saw one of their old favourites have a good game.

"George Best, though playing well within himself compared with his Old Trafford days, still managed to look the outstanding player on the pitch.

"George strolls where once he would have sprinted, but he can still produce magic moments such as the cheeky chip that saw him score one of the goals.

"I'm sure there must have been a few United fans who went home saddened that George Best had to lose his commitment for football when he was at Old Trafford."

It seemed it was only a matter of time before Oscar Bobb completed his move from Manchester City to Fulham. Bobb's opportunities to play in Pep Guardiola's squad had become limited. A January move was the best option for the Norwegian international. Fulham have now completed the signing of Oscar Bobb. How Bobb fares at Craven Cottage will be worth keeping an eye on, as the potential for Bobb to one day return to City does remain in play.

Manchester City and Fulham yesterday confirmed Oscar Bobb's move to Craven Cottage. Bobb has signed a 5-and-a-half year contract with Fulham as per a release on Fulham's official website. Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that Bobb was sold to Fulham for £27 million. City have a 20% sell-on clause including in the deal and have matching rights if any other club bids to sign the Norwegian international.

If Oscar Bobb comes on as a player at Fulham it would not be surprise to see him one day return to City.
Oscar Bobb has all the necessary traits, potential, and talent as a player to one day make it at Manchester City. Unfortunately for Bobb, it hasn't come together for him this season at City. A January move to a club like Fulham does look to be a good step for Bobb's career. He needs the opportunity to play regularly to develop his game. That chance won't come if he remained a member of Pep Guardiola's squad. Moving to Fulham and playing under Marco Silva should be a good step in the career of the young winger.

If Oscar Bobb can take the next step as a player at Fulham, it would not be a surprise to see him one day return to Manchester City. That is the challenge for Bobb. He now needs to go from a talented young player to a proven Premier League player. There is no reason that Bobb shouldn't. Fulham play a brand of football that should suit the strengths of Oscar Bobb's game. If he can establish himself as a first-team regular at Fulham, that should lay a platform for Bobb to become the player he has always promised to be. It will be interesting to see if that is how Bobb's career unfolds now that he has left Manchester City.

Oscar Bobb has now completed his move from Manchester City to Fulham. There remains a path back to the Etihad for Bobb. It will now depend on whether he can mature and develop as a player at Craven Cottage, which will dictate if he can return to City.

The January transfer window and the elephants in the room
As the window prepares to be slammed shut, Elizabeth Barnard looks at what it could mean for our future.

I can't have been the only person glued to my phone this January, despite my new year's resolutions and best intentions to spend less time online. It's an easy trap to get sucked into: there's no light outside, so I'm seeking the blue light from my screen. No-one wants to go to the pub because everybody's doing Dry January. Oh and, of course, it's the January transfer window.

The January transfer window is a slippery customer. It is full of promise - a month-long opportunity to fix your season, and your moves in the market could be the difference between success and failure. The gaping holes in your squad are obvious, as are the players out of favour and angling for a move. Here comes the January transfer window: a silver bullet for all of it.

And then, you're waking up in February and all we've done is re-sign Willian. The January transfer window slips out the door leaving nothing in its wake. Dan Cooke had 2025's window as his 'What If?' moment of last season, and it's hard to disagree.

We're yet to see how the final days shake out - of course, Fulham couldn't possibly do any business earlier in the window, that would be crazy. At time of writing, we have just announced the signing of Oscar Bobb from Manchester City. It looks like we're linked/in talks/in advanced talks (delete as appropriate) with Ricardo Pepi from PSV. There's a necessary opacity to transfer negotiations which feels even more jarring in the age of information: what decisions are actually being made, and how, and when?

It's even more worrying because, this January, there are a couple of elephants in the room. In his seminal photography book, Brooklyn Beckham called elephants "hard to photograph" - and so it's proving to be the case. For every Fabrizio or Ornstein tweet about Oscar Bobb or Ricardo Pepi, there is something left unsaid that is much more difficult to capture. It's not about the rest of the season - European qualification or a cup run - but the long term. What exactly does the January transfer window mean for the future of Marco Silva?

This slippery customer has always felt like a Catch 22 when it comes to Silva's future. Silva was clearly frustrated with the summer's transfer business - which he vocalised a number of times, while - of course - entering the final year of his contract. The January transfer window is a problem - Silva doesn't want to sign a contract before he's backed in January, and the club don't want to buy players for a manager who has not committed his future beyond summer 2026. Recklessness or overcautiousness in this window could have calamitous consequences.

And, frustratingly, the same can be said for our star player Harry Wilson, who is also out of contract at the end of the season. Nobody saw Wilson's renaissance coming (aside from Sammy James and Peter Rutzler on the pre-season show - they knew something I didn't). It's impossible not to see Wilson's and Silva's futures as linked; Wilson was Silva's first signing in 2021, and now they are our star men, and their futures are hanging in the balance. Will Silva really stay if we don't show the ambition to tie our best player down? Will Wilson want to stay if Fulham lose the talismanic manager that has crafted this team he is excelling in?

And so, I am cheered by our January transfer business, with Bobb over the line now. We are being ambitious in the market, pivoting strategy and buying young players to set us up for the future. Maybe these will be the signings that get Fulham into European Conference League in 2027, or to Wembley in the cup. But more than that, maybe they are the signings that convince Marco Silva that the club is ready to be ambitious, and he should tie himself to a good thing.

Every move in the transfer window links back to that elephant in the room. Of course, we're right to discuss what Oscar Bobb can provide on the pitch, but we should also be delighted by what this news may mean off it.

It feels almost season-defining as Manchester United prepare to face Fulham in the Premier League, with a chance to win three consecutive matches for the first time since October.

Manchester United host Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, when Michael Carrick will be aiming to continue a 100% win streak since returning to Old Trafford as head coach.

Although there is talk among punters about Carrick getting the head coach role beyond this season, that will depend on results, and he only belongs to that conversation if he can secure Champions League qualification.

There's a lot at play in the Premier League this weekend. It's helping that the teams surrounding United are dropping points on a regular basis, including Liverpool.

Without further ado, United In Focus looks at five things you should be looking out for ahead of the upcoming game against Fulham.

How Michael Carrick approaches games against lesser teams
Carrick has had two games in charge since returning to Old Trafford, beating two teams competing for the Premier League title. This weekend will be his first challenge against a lesser side.

This shouldn't be a problem for United, but it was throughout Ruben Amorim's 14-month reign as manager. The Red Devils would often drop points in games they should be winning, on paper at least.

Carrick adopted a counter-attacking approach against Man City and Arsenal, and it was successful due to the United players being clinical in the final third, but the same approach won't work against teams happy to play for a draw at Old Trafford.

The newly appointed head coach must find a formula to break down teams like Fulham and West Ham over the coming weeks. Michael Owen has warned Carrick about the challenge that awaits.

Who Michael Carrick selects to replace Patrick Dorgu
It's been a near-perfect two weeks for Carrick at United. The only negative is Patrick Dorgu's injury setback after the Denmark international sustained a hamstring injury in United's 3-2 win over Arsenal last weekend.

Dorgu had been getting into the team ahead of Matheus Cunha, but Carrick could also select Mason Mount, who was a favourite under Amorim.

The Dane has been playing on the left side of attack in recent weeks, with fewer defensive responsibilities. His pace hurt both Man City and Arsenal in recent games, but it remains to be seen who Carrick will use to replace him.

We could also see Amad Diallo shifted to the opposite wing to Bryan Mbeumo, but there is very little to suggest Carrick will do that against Fulham.

Man Utd look to build on impressive Premier League record against Fulham
United have lost just one of their last 20 Premier League games against Fulham (W15 D4), losing 2-1 at Old Trafford in February 2024.

Perhaps more worrying, from a United perspective, is our recent record against the Cottagers. The Red Devils are winless in their last two matches against Fulham, which both ended in draws.

Following a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage when these two sides last met in August, Fulham are looking to avoid defeat in both Premier League matches with United for the first time since the 2003/04 season.

United fans will protest against the club's ownership (Glazers & Sir Jim Ratcliffe) on Sunday, ahead of the game against Fulham.

The protest has been organised by fan group The 1958, who announced plans earlier this month with a vote of no confidence in United's hierarchy.

Previous protests have been aimed mostly at the Glazers, but now it's time for Ratcliffe to feel the heat, after The 1958 branded him 'an incompetent clown turning the club into a circus'.

The protests against ownership at United have never been about results, which is why fans have been left bewildered by journalists claiming to be surprised at protests following back-to-back wins.

It's much deeper than that.

One of the many issues Amorim had at United was being unable to go on winning runs. That sort of problem is big enough to rule out a team as title contenders, but Carrick has gone back to basics with his approach early on to ensure the team get back to winning ways.

Carrick can match Amorim's longest winning run as United head coach, should the Reds secure three points against Fulham.

It took Amorim 47 matches to win three consecutive games at United. Carrick has a chance to do it in three.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have had a mixed campaign and are keen to keep most of their squad together before Monday's deadline, with Eddie Howe hoping to qualify for the Champions League once again, while the team have already qualified for the playoff round of this season's tournament.

Willock, who has been described as 'rapid', has struggled for regular football this season at St James' Park, making just two starts in the Premier League all season, while he scored against PSG in midweek in what was his second start in the Champions League too.

His versatility and quality are seen as being important to the Newcastle squad, and is also a reason why Fulham have made a move to add him to Marco Silva's squad.

GIVEMESPORT sources understand that a bid worth £20m was sent in to the offices at Newcastle, but was rejected by the decision makers at the club. It's understood that Willock is keen on the move, which would see him return to London, having come through the Arsenal academy.

However, Newcastle are not willing to sanction the deal unless they are able to find a replacement in this window, and with the deadline being on Monday at 7pm UK time, that seems unlikely at this stage.

Newcastle Can't Let Willock Leave Now
Newcastle have got a very strong squad, but a number of their players this season have been underperforming, and that has seen Howe mix and match on occasion.

The midweek draw with Paris Saint-Germain was a good example of that, as he brought in the likes of Willock to the starting lineup, and they were still able to come away with a positive result, with those players having a big impact.

Willock is able to play in multiple midfield roles and also on the wings, and if he can stay fit then he could prove to be a vital member of the squad in the coming months, and without replacing him, losing him would be a major blow.

Fulham form may have changed transfer plan – Player's priority made clear
Fulham's push towards European football could end up changing Raúl Jiménez's long-term plans.

That's according to journalist Rubén Rodríguez. Soy Futbol cover his comments on the Mexican striker today.

Jiménez is set to be a free agent in the summer, when he turns 35-years-old. But he remains Fulham's leading man, earning praise for his performances again this season.

So far there have been no talks about a contract renewal. That's led to increased speculation that he could be set to depart Craven Cottage in the summer.

A return to Mexico, and his former club, Club América, is regularly mentioned. The striker has often fuelled those rumours, making it clear he'd love to return before retiring.

And a recent report indicated this summer could be the one in which it happens. Club América officials were eyeing up extra revenue from the World Cup to make the Fulham striker their 'blockbuster signing'. That report indicated they were building funds to make the signing happen this summer.

Since then, though, Fulham have been quietly moving up the Premier League. They currently sit seventh, on 34 points, just four outside the top four. They're only two behind Liverpool in sixth.

European football next season is a distinct possibility. And, according to Rodríguez, this would change Jiménez's plans considerably.

"If the team enters European competitions, it will be very difficult for them not to renew the contract, and that is what America expects not to happen in order to convince him," he said.

"If after the World Cup Sevilla goes for Raúl, although he offers him half of what America gives him, he does not come. His priority is to stay in Europe if there is a major option."

Newcastle star now keen to join Fulham as Magpies reply to bid
Fulham have now made an offer to sign one Newcastle star who's also keen to join them, with Marco Silva's side getting a reply to the bid.

The Whites have uncharacteristically experienced one of the Premier League's most active January windows, completing the £27 million signing of Oscar Bobb from Manchester City whilst offloading Adama Traoré to West Ham, as Silva reshapes his squad for a European push.

The Cottagers confirmed on Friday they secured Bobb on a five-and-a-half-year contract, with the 22-year-old becoming their marquee January acquisition.

The deal includes a 20 per cent sell-on clause favouring Man City alongside matching rights should Fulham receive future offers for the winger.

Bobb apparently spoke to compatriot and Fulham midfielder Sander Berge before finalising the transfer, stating the decision was "easy basically" after discussions with Silva regarding the club's system and culture.

The Norwegian made 47 appearances for City's senior side across all competitions, contributing 3 goals and 4 assists, though he slipped further down the pecking order following Antoine Semenyo's £64 million arrival at the Etihad Stadium.

Silva addressed Bobb's signing during his pre-match press conference Friday, calling it a 'very, very good' move by the club.

Fulham's manager emphasised the club's focus on developing the young winger physically whilst acknowledging his importance for both immediate needs and long-term planning.

Bobb's arrival addresses Traore's departure to West Ham, where the Spanish winger reunites with former Wolves manager Nuno Espírito Santo.

Traore managed just one Premier League start this season under Silva, making the low-cost sale mutually beneficial.
