Should be OK today. Saints only win was against a team still in a mess. Heart says 1-2 win, head says 1-1.
Tape delayed for this afternoon, will watch it when I return from my Sunday morning match. :scarf:

fantastic pressure by saints btw....trying to get the ball in our own half, we don't know what to do so it's mainly sideways and backwards. shocking. no go-to-guy. Sidwell's first touch is non-existant.

Ruiz is the most frustrating player ever. Seems to slow every attack down by dwelling on the ball too long.

We've been awful and created nothing. No options on the bench. Getting over run in centre midfield.

There's one goal in unlike West Ham where we were 3-0 down at half time and the game was already lost. We managed to stop the rot but my issue today is that we have no one to change the game and I can't see us scoring.

He needs to play out wide in the front three where he'll have more time. In a number 10 role he has 3 midfielders jumping on him every time he gets the ball. Drop Duff into the midfield 3 and let him provide width when we need it. Pop Ruiz into the front 3 as an inside forward where he'll be forced to stay high up the pitch and move into the channels. That's where he scored all his goals at Twente

Hate to say it, but you're right..  He is looking "better" but he is not and never will be a key player in the team because this isn't the right league for him.  Mind you, on that first half performance I don't think this is the right league for any of our players.  We need a league where we only have to play at home.

Well be honest. It is the same old story. We can blame Ruiz (not sure why) and we can speed up our attacking (but nobody in the area). But this side just aint good enough. Jol knows and we know it.

Let's hope we have at least a few good minutes in the second half  to make up for yet another away game where so far we have stayed on the coach.

This will be a misplaced pass festival.

Duff is a more than competent passer of a football and he has a very good work rate. So is Baird when he wants to be. Sidwell only keeps his place for his ball winning ability.

There's no midfield solution until January unfortunately. It's going to be long balls down the wings and channels in the mean time.

Swart and Brede will be costing us games soon. Swart at forty still makes saves but he costs us with his poor commanding of the area and reactions.

Still a draw that we didn't deserve over the 90 minutes against a not great Southampton.

Yeah, looked a blatant free kick to e but Richardson was so stupid committing that foul.

Schneiderlin should have gone too - a booking is a booking, the ref's job isn't to keep 11 players on the pitch it's to enforce the rules.  Winds me up no end.

But, after the first half who wouldn't have taken a point?

Hangeland and Schwarzer were awful - absolutely awful.

We should have been 2 down at half time, we got lucky with an own goal and really the lack of pressure against a team who did nothing in the second half was pretty poor. They deflected a shot onto their post and we scored a good goal. But we couldn't defend all game against the simplest of crosses and set plays. So lucky draw.

I'm sorry I totally disagree. Southampton did absolutely nothing. They only looked threatening from corners because Schwarzer was all over the place.

We were probing alot, Richardson looked very lively when he came on. We did ok, midfield still a bit of an issue but will improve when Diarra is back.

The equilising goal was a joke, and the Southampton player should have been sent off, and us get a free kick, a second before they "won" a free kick. Referee was absolutely abysmal

Wigan, City and now saints in the last few minutes.. Keep the bloody door shut Fulham, doing my head in. As for the foul on the Greek it sadly goes to show that at times you need to roll the floor. It was his honesty that the ref wasn't good enough to see.
Title: Re: Southampton Vs Fulham Match Thread

Not sure why Kaca came off, could have been 3 down at half time, much improved second half just lost concentration right at the end, referee was awful first half but better in the second. I would have taken a point given our injuries at the start of the game, just annoying to concede late on after what seemed the winner we scored.

One thing that really did annoy me today.. Ruiz, yes we all know he can take on players but why try to prove it by doing one or two then turning around to do it again?! Was easily taken off the ball today, didn't pass anywhere near enough as he should have, and he NEVER moves off the ball, he needs to do one player then run into space, I've seen him do it before. I never moan about Ruiz but he did annoy me today. But also he shown positives in the aspect that he could take players out of the game, but he did not support Rodallega enough today and did not run anywhere near enough.

One more moan, hangelands long balls. Enough said.

I shall end it on a very positive point though, Karagounis looked a complete player when he came on, reminded me of a mix of Murphs and Diarra.

As I stated before I would have taken a point, shame it wasn't 3 but it could have easily been 0 so on to the next one! Enjoy the point and get behind he lads like we always do for the next game.

WE ARE FULHAM

Schneiderlin not getting a second yellow was ridiculous. 100% clear yellow card foul with him already on a yellow. Totally bottled.

Karagounis was clearly fouled right before Richardson stupidly conceded the free kick that led to the equalizer. Awful again.

All that said, a draw probably was the right result. Shame that we keep conceding late, Hangeland and Schwarzer were abysmal, we were poor in the first 45, etc. It was a battle between a bad team and an injured team. We have two weeks to get healthy and we'll be much better against Villa at home on the 20th. I feel like we'll win that one and also win at Reading, assuming Berba's there.

Given all the upheaval and all the injuries in key spots, I'll certainly take 10 points from seven matches, already having played at United and vs City. Now let's improve from here as our options increase on the roster...

Good points Luke.

Ruiz was so annoying. I'm Not sure he's going to make it. I much prefer Berba Rod partnership.

I sometimes think people on here thrive on doom and gloom. First half we were poor, second we decimated them.

Set pieces are a worry though, and Hangland has been awful all season. No one can argue that. Is Douglas still available?

Yoshida clearly handled the ball on the line & there were another couple in the pen area that on another day would have been given. When are we going to stop letting in goals at the death? This has been going on for years. Three points were there for the taking but I suppose we should be happy after the 1st half to come away with one.

I completely agree with the Hangeland and Schwarz comments, would be good to buy a new cb preferably Douglas in January, but how many games have H + S been soooo good for us. Keep the faith guys, we could have easily lost this game but we got a point, we shown some fight in the second half, with the likes of berba petric Frei and dejagah back in the squad we will be a much improved side.

Awful refereeing, what you expect from Clattenburg only he can know how he arrives at some of his decisions but he has given us some favourable decisions in the past, one very inportant game against Blackburn at home under Hughes when he denied them one and gave us one.

One little thing I noticed today, when we have a corner Riether is the one hanging on the edge of the box with Riise on the halfway line. Would have thought it would make sense switching those two so the Norwegian could have a pop if it falls to him, strange, though our set pieces generally lack strategy

I don't know where you got those stats, but they're rubbish.

Opta say 42% possession to them and 58% to us and, having been at the match, that confirms what I saw. We dominated possession in the second half particularly.

Fair enough, but the 57/43 stats were still being quoted on TV as late as MOTD2 - so you can understand where the false info was coming from.
