EverBank Friendly
Friday 25 April 2014 20:19

Fulham Football Club and D.C. United are scheduled to play a friendly match at Jacksonville's EverBank Field on Saturday 26th July. The match will be part of pre-season preparations for the Club in advance of the 2014/15 season, while it will be a mid-season friendly for D.C. United. The Jacksonville Jaguars and SMG are hosting the event.

"We're looking forward to staging this match for fans of both types of football and introducing Fulham not only to Jacksonville, but to fans throughout the state and nation," said Shahid Khan, Owner of Fulham and the Jaguars. "There is great passion in the Jacksonville area for soccer, and this will be a rare opportunity to see our Fulham team play in Jacksonville, and against one of the premier professional franchises in American soccer."

D.C. United plays in Major League Soccer (MLS) and is a four-time league champion. Ticket information for this match will be provided at a later date, along with starting time and further details.

Having a bubble? You can take a Englishman to America but you can't teach him the language. LOL

I'll certainly look at my options. Have you selected a hotel?

BTW, you'll get to see Eddie Johnson. Isn't that exciting?

Yeah, I've been told that too often, I just say my brains too old to be rewired with another language!!

SWMBO found a good hotel just within walking distance of the ground, and also cheap flights/drive into Sandford. Likely we'll be there from the Thursday thru Sunday (so she can visit the beach for a day). We're waiting for Fulham to give confirmation and ticket offers, and then we'll book up. I'm hoping Heather and/or Mo (FUSA) will assist in organizing a meet and we can share the hotel/flight info on there.  I'll make sure there's a sticky on here as well for the fixture.

Oh yeah, fast Eddie, wonder if he's found his third gear yet!

Just occurred to me that if we can get enough bods together we could request a meeting with Khan either at the hotel or at the match site. Perhaps we could talk him into some sort of TV package or at least a round of Fullers.

I like your idea YankeeJim, a meeting would be best. Maybe discuss a youtube broadcast of matches if possible or at the very least get a Man City prematch video(thats top stuff, even if it is City)

Still waiting on confirmation from Fulham/DC/Jags as to tickets, etc.

Fulham/DC have announced it, but nothing on the Jags site as such.

I found this last night on the jag website.  Tells about the event and off to the side has a pre-sale registration for tickets.  I have not register as of yet as I am trying to figure out if any of the family is going to come with me.

Personally, I feel the whole event has been diluted by the joining of the match to the Underwood concert and the unveiling.

When I go to a footie match, I should expect to sit next to football fans, though I can accept sitting by sports fans might be an acceptable second, but to face the possibility of sitting next to people who are just there to see the concert, have no interest in football, and unlikely have even heard of Fulham, smacks of pure commercialism on the part of Khan, and provides ammunition that Fulham football club and its fans, is less of a concern to him than just making a quick buck.

The simple facts (as I see them) are these:
All current (and any future up to May 30) Jag ST holders get free entry. I have little doubt if they don't want to go there will be subs for them. This automatically reduces the available ticket allocations to Fulham and United fans. The addition of Underwood simply undermines the true football fans' ticket availability.

Sorry, for me, Khan has made a dreadful mistake, especially as I have seen very little if anything on the Fulham site itself concerning this event, and THAT is the place Fulham fans all over the world would first look for such information.

We have signed up for the early tickets, solely because I want to see my life-long club play, but the anticipation and excitement has been dulled by this spectacle, and my view of Khan, which has been quite neutral up til now, has diminished a little, I'm sorry to say.

Thats the issue I guess, as all ST holders will have their own seats reserved, and the rest of the ticket sales could well be first-come-first-served basis, so you could be sitting next to a bunch of girlies all waiting for Carrie to appear and wondering what this bunch of 22 guys are doing chasing a pigs bladder around the pitch for.

I agree with you Logicalman, however most wont be interested in attending the match so i would imagine they would arrive later.

Fulham in Florida has a contact inside and said he would talk to the powers that be about a Fulham block

Ok bad news so I hope Fulham of Florida has a really good contact.
Just got off the phone with JAG's ticket office.  The event is currently only be offered to season ticket holders.  They are not sure yet if they are going to open it up to the public for general admission.  I think two things need to be done.

1.    Call Jags's ticket office 904.633.4673 and ask for Milena.  She has a lovely voice and is the one who gave me the low down.
2.   We should all probably email the club and ask what gives?

Milena said that the jags would probably make an announcement in the next week or two about public tickets.

What a bunch of rubbish!

Perhaps that's why they haven't mentioned it on the Fulham site, but did on the Jags site 2 weeks ago?

Below is the official reply from the club about tickets for the "Event".  Sadly it sounds like CU's stage could be taking up an unknown amount of seats.  Her stage will determine if any or how many seats might be available to the public.
Email for FFC:
Thanks for your email.

We are yet to receive ticket information for this game as the seating plan/stage set up is yet to be confirmed. As soon as I have more information, I'll drop you an email.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kindest regards,
Nicola

I also emailed the club a couple of weeks back, and the reply I received was not encouraging, as we are not considered as primary or even secondary persons attending and simply referred to as guests at the event.

The club initially put this out as a football game on the Fulham site, but since then it has gone eerily quiet, and any information is being dissipated via other channels (predominantly Jags 365 site) is referring to this event as an unveiling of the new Jumbotron and a concert by one C. Underwood. Never thought we would ever play third fiddle to a blood pop star!

Ok I just got a call from the jag's ticket office.  They don't really seem to have their S*** together.  The guy who called was wanting to know if I would be interested in a small suite for $3500 that holds 16 people.  Told him I was more interested in general tickets for a small group.  He thinks ("thinks" is the key word here) that additional tickets will be offered first to season ticket holders starting on Wednesday.  He believes that tickets will be available to general public starting next week and told me to call back on Friday.

Q – If we were able to get a set of group tickets how many here would be interested?  If you are interested how many tickets would you want?

Hotel & Tickets now sorted, and emails sent.

Anyone got any ideas about this block of FFC tickets that's been mentioned and whether we can find out who might be taking them up, just sos we can meet and coordinate a drinking/eating session on Match day in jax?

Anyone on FoF attending, and not already on our email list, drop me your email address and I'll add you to it.

We have booked hotels just a mile from the ground, prices are between 85 and 140 bucks a night (+ tax)

Not yet, I just wonder who the hell the club are selling tickets to, especially 2 weeks after they went on general sale!! I'm still miffed with the way the club dealt with things, they could have told each of us thast wrote to them 2 months ago they were planning this, but yet again, they have a distinct lack of PR at the club these days, and as for organization, pee up & brewery, as in unable to, comes to mind.

I tweeted at Sarah Brookes to see if there would be anything going on for Fulham fans at Everbank and haven't seen anything in response.  We are also disappointed at my house that our order from the Fulham store won't be here in time for us to sport our new duds in Jax.  And since I have decided that my home shirt is not suitable for public consumption, I guess I won't be wearing anything branded.

Anyone know where the team is staying?

Homewood Suites?

You hope it's the Homewood Suites.  I'm rooting for the Wyndham.  I'm going to guess that Khan is putting them up on some island that he owns.  On a related note, the offal tells me that Fulham is pre-gaming at the Jacksonville Sports Tavern, which is apparently near the stadium.  Planning on doing that barring a better offer.

You must have missed the email. Florida Fulham Fans Group (you can find them on Facebook) is putting on a party starting at 2:30 I believe. They claim to have 47 people coming and our bunch plans on joining them and then heading over to the ground. There is also an autograph session after the morning practice. Look for an old fat guy with a FFC hat and probably some sort of Fulham tee shirt.

OI, I'm not THAT fat!   064.gif

The only top I have is Dabs and I didn't bring it because I thought I'd get some stick about being old...and I am that old!

I'm kind of annoyed now. I saw so many people and I kind of didn't know how to interject myself into the conversation. I saw you all there, next time I'll have to do a better job.

There were so many people there I missed a few I was looking for. I just went around and struck up a conversation. I met several of the locals and a real charmer from Holland. Glad me misses didn't see that. LOL. Many thanks to Tony & Don. Tony is actually funny an I'm here to tell you he definitely married up. His Ann was a real sweetheart. Don arranged the transportation so we didn't litter the Florida landscape with smashed rental cars. His wife still doesn't understand why he drove across country to meet up with a bunch of strangers. I think she understands now. I never did find Brixology and I didn't always put the moniker with the name. Chris brought his "Coastie" Angela who spent the early part of the evening like Don's wife wondering who these crazy people were. I explained that Fulham is not a soccer team but an actual religion. About that time Pope Khan walked in, gave everyone a blessing and bought a round for the 150 or so people who were there. Very nice and polite man. So Harrison.crow, always remember that all you have to do is walk up to a Fulham shirt and you have a friend. Many thanks to the Florida Fulham crowd, they put on a good party. For the record, Florida Fulham was formed before Khan bought the team by an ex-patriot so they are not all newbys. The pitch looked in great shape and that jumbo-tron is sight to behold. Full HD with real sharp replays.  And lastly. RogerP didn't need the Prozac, he was well behaved. And still no one knows where I got my Dabs shirt and Fulham cap from.

Looks like I really missed out. Glad you all had a great time.

So, sounds like everyone enjoyed meeting khan. Anyone have more than a 1 minute conversation with him? What was your impression?

Seems like a very sincere guy. He held conversations with several people. Seemed interested in hearing from us, the supporters and what we think about the state of the club.

Unfortunately, with over 100 supporters present, a minute is all about he could afford, I mean, we had a game to go to a couple of hours later!   049:gif

Jim, I was in the bar and I tried to change my avatar to my Khan picture, but the website won that battle.  Then I tried to post said picture into this post, but the website apparently just can't contain that much handsome.  So I will say that I was the sweaty guy in the red polo shirt and my son had the new home shirt on and a mop of blond curls.  Based on your avatar, I remember seeing you, and I'm bummed we didn't get a chance to talk.  We had a great time, and I'm hopeful that Mr. Khan makes this an annual tradition.

We should have worn name tags like some lame business meeting. I also am sorry we didn't get a chance to meet up. Next time for sure. The website has a limit on the size of the picture you can post. Try to shrink it. If you don't know how, PM Admin. He is a generally nice guy and has helped me on numerous occasions. If you saw the T-shirt I had on it is one from 69Tees which is admin's website. Nice shirt. The exchange rate makes them a bit more expensive than a quality shirt on this side of the pond but I feel they are worth it. Plus, he gave me a deal. Cheers!
