Title: Who the Hell marks a Keeper, eh?
Post by: pettyfog on October 17, 2010, 04:11:11 PM
Crew is down 2-1 at Toronto, in danger of losing to the canucks for the very first time.
It's the 92' and time is very short. Crew is awarded a corner.
Why wouldnt ANY team in that situation bring their keeper up to the box?

'Cause here's what MIGHT happen:

Seems to me that you have nothing to lose at that point. It's like pulling the goalie in hockey. Seems you would do it every time if it is VERY late in the match.

Very crafty move and first time I have seen a goalie score a goal.

As Tom Jones might have said, "This isn't all that unusual." You'll see a GK in the opposing penalty area 2-3 times a season in most top leagues. Brad Friedel scored with a solid right foot a couple of years back in the closing minutes, only to concede again himself before the final whistle.

Nice. The defender laid off him and left him wide open!
