Title: Our next eight games
Post by: The Swan on November 05, 2019, 01:27:10 PM
Not one of these games are easy so we will have to improve our standard of play.
Birmingham  . Away   one point
QPR               Home   one point
Derby            Home Three points
Swansea       Away    one point
Bristol City    Home    one point
Preston        Away     nil points
Brentford     Away     nil points
Leeds          Home    nil points

Total seven points . I do hope I am wrong but we could not beat Stoke, Middlesbrough( not bad as we played with ten men for most of the game), or Hull.

If we don't get at least seven points from these games I think that Scott Parker will be on his way.

With all due respect we need a lot more than a point a game over the next 8 to not get left in mid table and way adrift of the top 6. Add to this that we've yet to beat a top 12 side and the prospect of this run is frightening. Unless Parker radically changes his approach to tactics & style the "we're only 7 points off the lead & 2 pts off the playoffs" will soon be replaced by "bugger we're 15 points off the lead and 9 off the playoffs"

Things need to change quickly,  recent performances suggest that we will be lucky to yield seven points from those seven games and really that could mark the end of our season.

Gents, try and relax, as Corporal Jones keeps saying " don't panic Mr Mannering ".
Let's keep that glass at least half full. One match at a time. If we look too far in the distance worrying about what may or may not be a result in 8 games time, we will all end up on the Funny Farm.

Of course you are right but Birmingham on Saturday who have lost but one game at home looks almost impossible unless we do something different.

Yep, a point per game will net this team a disappointing season and obviously no promotion.  This past break 4 game stretch should say something to the fans.  These last 4 games v bottom table clubs produced 4 points.  One point per game.  Not good.  FFC has to do much better than one point per over the next 8 games.  Otherwise, season is basically over.

I don't think you're far away with those predictions unfortunately. They 'look' really tough games.

Nightmare really

Need 3-4 wins just to stay close to the top 6

Need to win all 8 for top 2, so essentially however many points we drop is how far we'll be off the top 2.

If we only get 11pts then top 2 aspirations will be pretty much over, whoever's the manager, but it may be just that fact that keeps Parker in his job (because the Khans recalibrate their target down from 2nd to 6th)

unless, and I'm not a believer of this, the league get's way more close than any other season and people just pick up points from each other.....One can only hope I suppose.....

As I said weeks ago, I can see Parker doing "just enough" to keep his job, not really pushing the players hard (that's why they like him) but relying on their inherent talent to casually scrape 6th and go out half-arsed in the play-off semis.

I'd be utterly p*ssed off if that were to happen but I can definitely see it.

I agree with what you say. I also feel that it's games like this where Fulham can measure themselves against the likes of Birmingham, and its games like this that determine if Fulham have the necessary armoury to challenge for a top 6 spot, it may look a home banker by some, but Fulham as unpredictable as they are, can be very dangerous when you least expect them. Especially in the current position of only scoring in one game in the last 4, and conceding 7 goals in the process.

My son phoned earlier to say Fulham under 21 doing well away at Wycombe.

Spot On, players like Parker, because they know that he won't hold players back in their careers, so players know they don't have to get the team promoted to play premier league. Fulham players know as soon as the agent calls with a better offer, they just tell Parker they won't be happy if he doesn't tell them go, Parker doesn't want unhappy players and so will let them leave to join a Liga A team (even if we are still paying off their transfer fee).

Unfortunately, Sheffield United players know the only way to become a premier league player at their club is to get their club promoted (or get a massive profitable transfer fee for their club that can buy several other player). Playing for another championship manager is like been put in a championship cage, having the key thrown away, being told climb out and if you don't get the team out you'll never play for a better division.

Then of course we don't know if any of the above has anything to do with reality, so maybe shouldn't worry too much.

Think it's a bit early to get hysterical about having not beaten any of the top 12 sides. Firstly because we have only played 15 games and lost 3, secondly because we're eight and not that far off top still. That said though Parker is and was always going to be a wildcard for us and so far he's doing as well as I expected, but with the squad he's got he really should have us consistently in the playoffs at the very least.

He seems to lack a plan b and also randomly changes the team around far too much for my liking.

50% of our losses have come against the bottom two clubs in the league.

That means we are not losing 85% of our matches against teams outside the bottom 2.

Surely, statistically, that must mean we are in with a good chance of not losing to Birmingham?

Before every one starts berating me, this is tongue-in-cheek use of statistics. But my glass is still half full. I recall our game against West Brom when frankly we were clearly the better team.

But I reckon Birmingham at home will think they have a good chance against us, and that may well work in our favour. I believe we will get something out of the game.

I also agree with Woolly - really interested to see how we can perform away against a good, even if not top, side who have a bit of self-belief.

Oh, and by the way, I think (without checking, just hearsay) the bookies have us as favourites to win !!! Maybe they believe my stats .....
