Title: NFR: England
Post by: BigbadBillyMcKinley on November 16, 2019, 08:53:07 AM
If you could pick any player that you have personally seem play live for club or country, what would be the best England line up.
Dont just say "England team of '66" that's boring. It's a bit of fun and there isnt a prize at the end.

Seaman

Cole (A)
Ferdinand
Campbell
Neville (G)

Gazza
Beckham
McManaman
Scholes

Shearer
Rooney

I saw Gazza play a few times and every time I was blown away by how good he was in person, absolutely sensational footballer. All the sadder seeing him now.

Id go
Seaman
Cole A
Ferdinand
Adams
Neville G

Beckham
Robson
Gazza
Scholes

Shearer
Lineker

(Subs Beardsley and Sterling and Kane)

The England team of 67.  Most of them were world cup winners.

Couldn't think of a GK but Banks was the best in the world

As with the recent BBC England Best Team Ever this is an age thing as some of us have seen more England players than others.
Not just out of club loyalty I have to include Johnny Haynes and Tom Finney rather than Stanley Matthews. I could go on but we all have our personal favourites.

                                                      Frank Swift
                                       Cohen                          Langley

                                   Beckham         Wright           Robson

                                              Grieves               Haynes
                                 Mathews              Lawton                Finney

As said earlier it is  age related and many will have never have seen most of my selected players but believe me that front five were the best of the 20th century and would be a joy to watch today.

Sterling would have to be in any team... i've seen loads, but he's special.

Sterling has had a couple of good seasons for England before that he struggled.
However I do agree that he is now outstanding but sorry I can't find a place for him in my Mathews, Grieves, Lawton, Haynes Finney line up.
Afraid he will have to join the queue with  Carter, Mannion, and a few other brilliant inside forwards whose names have slipped my memory.

Nice one.

Didn't Tony Macedo play for England U23's, but denied a full cap because he came from Gibraltar.

Yes. At the time rather annoying.
