Title: What I really don’t understand
Post by: Jimsbeerbelly on May 23, 2020, 12:25:40 PM
Is that if the EFL decides to cancel the season in favour of a PPG situation, then, why do they still find it acceptable to still play out the playoffs?

If they stop it, without kicking another ball because it's deemed as not safe, then, what makes the playoffs safe?

Either way, the players, staff, will still raise the same concerns, be it 2 or 3 games, or 9, because COVID19 isn't going to pick or chose.

You either play out the rest of the season, and when it's finished, everyone rightfully claims their prize / fate, or, you null and void, and no one gets anything, they accepts its a freak pandemic, and everyone starts again.

Who's said they're going to do that?

Have I missed a statement from the EFL saying this is their decision?

Or is this just one of many proposals under consideration but unlikely to be chosen? Or even just a forum / red top rumour?

Has it been suggested that only the play offs be played, surely not. At the moment some 20 teams including Leeds and West Brom could arithmetically finish in the play offs.
I agree it has to be all or nothing, but would accept behind closed doors or neutral grounds.

Yes, it has been suggested, that one resolution is to send the top 2 up, but, still play out the playoffs BCD, if they can't re-start the season. They're not in favour of sending the 3rd place team up with top 2.

My argument here, is that if it's not safe enough to play out the rest of the season, then, its not safe enough to play out the playoffs.

I think they'll wait to see what the PL do.

Agree with this but behind closed doors at Home grounds as the logic of using neutral grounds is to stop mass gatherings of fans outside, but apart from Leeds I am not sure the support is big enough for the rest certainly not at Fulham. Then there is the distance travelled to games just to stand outside and for what as you won't have a clue what is happening. Although any play offs should be done at neutral grounds.
Also to get some fan participation and some revenue to the clubs all games should be televised live on a pay per view basis at kick off times so fans can pay to see their team. Season ticket holders should not have to pay or are refunded the cost of the missed games. Thinking about it this sounds like a solid financial idea. No team is limited to stadium size or away ticket availability so can sell as many "tickets" as they like, home and away fans. Not sure where all the money would go but the clubs can argue that out.
If you are the away team you are not restricted to ticket numbers and probably will get more of your fans watching than just by selling tickets. Also as all fans would be at home watching the game there would not be the mass gathering outside games.
Sorted.

In my opinion, you play the season to its normal conclusion however long it takes but if you stop it now you send the top 3 up and stuff the rest!
