Is there any injury news? Who is in the teams?
Owls boss Monk is expected to once again ring the changes from the side which drew 0-0 with Watford at Hillsborough on Saturday.

He named a completely different starting XI for the win over Rochdale in the second round last week which featured youngsters Liam Shaw and Ciaran Brennan as well as eight other other academy graduates, including goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith in goal.

Monk will once again have a near-full fit squad to pick from but it remains to be seen whether long-term injury absentees Osaze Urhoghide and new signing Chey Dunkley will make the trip to the capital.

"Both of them need some under-23 minutes first before league games and cup games... Osaze is pretty much there, Chey isn't far behind," said the Wednesday manager, speaking after the goalless draw with the Hornets.

Fulham, who have lost their opening two games back in the Premier League after losing 4-3 at Leeds United on Saturday, are expected to field a strong side as they did in last week's second round 1-0 win over Ipswich Town – which saw goalscorer on the night, Aleksandar Mitrovic, named skipper by Scott Parker.

French international goalkeeper Alphonse Areola is expected to start having made his debut in the Ipswich victory, while Parker could also include summer recruits Mario Lemina and Antonee Robinson in his starting XI.

Who is the referee?
The EFL has yet to announce the match officials for the game.

What are the odds?
Sky Bet is offering the following odds on the game:

Fulham – 17/20

Draw – 13/5

Sheffield Wednesday – 3/1

Are any tickets available?
No. All Wednesday games are currently being played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 crisis, meaning no tickets will be available.

Report: AC Milan want to sign Fulham midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa

AC Milan are eyeing a move for Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa as a potential alternative to Chelsea man, Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The Italian giants are hoping to sign Bakayoko on a permanent deal this summer after having the Chelsea man on loan. However, with the Blues holding out for a decent fee for the Frenchman, Milan are now considering alternatives.

Anguissa has, according to Calciomercato, emerged as a target for Milan after struggling to make the impression he would have wanted with Fulham. The midfielder has featured this season under Scott Parker – starting the last two – but the Cottagers have yet to see much return on their supposed £30m investment in the player.

Anguissa arrived in England from Marseille with a reputation for being a combative yet creative midfield player. The 24-year-old has 15 caps for Cameroon but has made just 24 PL appearances since his 2018 move to Fulham and spent last season with Villareal.

The report claims that Anguissa is a second option for Milan, who still view Bakayoko as their number one signing if possible.

If Fulham can cash in here, then they should – TBR View

For £30m, Fulham haven't seen as much from Anguissa as they'd have liked. However, he has come into the team of late and was many Cottagers' fans best player during the 4-3 loss at Leeds.

That performance might well convince Scott Parker to keep his man, although a big bid could change his mind.

Fulham will want to see Anguissa at his best but on the other hand, could need to bring some money in to help Parker build further. As things stand, it's a tricky decision for the club to make.

Report: Fulham eye RB Leipzig attacker Ademola Lookman

Fulham are interested in signing Ademola Lookman this summer, but German outlet Kicker has suggested that RB Leipzig have set a hefty asking price for the attacker.

Scott Parker's side have lost both of their opening two Premier League games. However, there were positive signs at the weekend as the Cottagers fought back from 4-1 to give Leeds a good scare.

Nevertheless, Fulham fans will be hoping to see the club enjoy a productive end to the window. And it appears that they have their eye on the 22-year-old.

Kicker reports that Fulham have confirmed their interest in Lookman. It is noted that they are keen to take the former Everton man on loan.

However, the report suggests that Leipzig, in an ideal world, would like to recoup as much of the £16.5 million that they spent to sign him permanently last year.

It remains to be seen if the two clubs can reach an agreement. But it is currently difficult to see Leipzig not being open to offers for Lookman.

Unfortunately, his return to Germany has been underwhelming. He is yet to feature this season. And he failed to score or provide an assist in any competition last term.

He would however, arguably be worth the gamble for Fulham if he joins on loan. Lookman has previously shown glimpses of being a fantastic talent.

And Fulham may argue that a loan move to Craven Cottage could ultimately prove beneficial to Leipzig should they decide to cash in and want to recoup a significant fee for the youngster.

Report: Southampton enter race to sign £27.5m man, could snatch him from under Fulham's noses

Southampton have entered the race to sign Florentino Luis from 'under the noses' of Fulham and AC Milan, according to The Sun.

The Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is said to be concerned by his side's 'lack of authority' in central midfield.

And it's claimed that may 'force his hand to make a firm bid' for Florentino, the 21-year-old Benfica player.

Hasenhuttl's Fulham counterpart, Scott Parker, has sent scouts to watch Florentino in action, while AC Milan have made their interest known, according to The Sun.

And the trio could be in luck, with Record reporting last week that Benfica are being forced to make two 'big sales' as a direct result of their failure to qualify for this year's Champions League group stage.

It had been suggested by Tuttomercatoweb – which claimed that Leeds United had held talks about signing the player – that it would cost between €20-30million (£18.3-27.5m) to prise Florentino from Benfica, although his contract contains a buyout clause of €120m (around £110m).

And, having broken even in the summer transfer window, thanks to the sales of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Tottenham Hotspur) and Harrison Reed (Fulham), Southampton may have the means to splash out.

DoF confirms Fulham offer for player – Seen as 'on the verge' of Craven Cottage move

Following a 3-0 loss to Arsenal and a 4-3 defeat to Leeds United, Fulham have decided they need a new centre-back.

The man they appear to have targeted is Sassuolo's Marlon, previously owned by Barcelona.

That's why both the Spanish and Italian press are in on the action on Monday when it comes to reporting the news, starting with Mundo Deportivo, who claim the 25-year-old is 'on the verge' of signing for Fulham, which would see the La Liga club get some money.

The reason for that is when Barcelona sold Marlon to Sassuolo for €6m, they also inserted various clauses including a right to buy him back and 50% of any future sale or an extra €6m if he played 50 games.

As things stand, Marlon has only featured in 41 official games for the Serie A side, meaning it's the first clause that is likely to be activated, with the Italians avoiding the extra €6m but needing to give a chunk of their money to Barcelona.

Considering the Brazilian only has one year left on his deal, they aren't expecting a huge amount, but it's better than nothing.

Over at Corriere dello Sport, it's explained Sassuolo are 'one step away' from selling their centre-back, with Fulham described as 'strongly' after him.

This comes after quotes from their director of football, Giovanni Carnevali, who confirmed they had received an 'important offer' from the Cottagers for their player, as relayed by Gianluca Di Marzio.

Florentino Luis to Southampton: Benfica star linked with transfer, Fulham and AC Milan interest

Southampton have been linked with a move for Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis.

Southampton remain in the market for a midfielder this summer after failing to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has made clear his desire to bring in players in a number of areas this summer, as well as letting one or two go.

On Sunday he was forced to bring on youngster Nathan Tella and Will Smallbone against Tottenham with his side already chasing the game.

But now they could be poised to swoop for talent for talented Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis, right from under the nose of Premier League rivals Fulham.

Here is the latest on those reports...

The transfer link

Southampton have joined the race to sign Florentino Luis, a report by the Sun claims, despite strong interest from elsewhere in England.

Fulham were said to be closing in on the 21-year-old with interest from Italian giants AC Milan also widely reported.

Saints are desperately short of midfield options with James Ward-Prowse and Oriol Romeu currently Hasenhuttl's only first-team options in the middle of the park.

Who is Florentino Luis?

The Portuguese youngster, nicknamed 'The Octopus' by his teammates, has made 21 appearances so far during his career, scoring once.

He made his Benfica debut back in 2018 in a 10-0 win over Nacional.

He stands at 6ft tall and can also play in central defence.

Supporters make demands loud and clear

Southampton fans are desperate to see a midfielder come through the door at St. Mary's.

What has Ralph Hasenhuttl said?

"I don't know how close [we are to signing anybody] but, as I always say, we are still looking for players and the market is open," he said when asked about his transfer plans on Thursday.

"We lost some players this summer to other clubs so we have to do something and we will."

Could anyone leave St. Mary's?

There are a number of players who could leave Southampton this summer.

Sofiane Boufal's depart now appears to be a case of when, not if - with Olympiacos heavily linked with him - and goalkeeper Angus Gunn could also depart.

There are rumours that Saints could negotiate a swap deal with Stoke City for the services of Jack Butland with the two players sharing the same agent.

And Danny Ings' future continues to make headlines with Jose Mourinho said to be interested in launching a swoop to land him before October's deadline.

The Sun: Southampton battling Milan, Man Utd and Fulham for Portuguese midfielder

Southampton have joined AC Milan in the race to land Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis, according to a report.

The Rossoneri may already boast the trio of Ismael Bennacer, Franck Kessie and Sandro Tonali in their defensive midfield department, but most major outlets believe they are in the market for a fourth name to give head coach Stefano Pioli the two quality pairings he has asked for.

Tiemoue Bakayoko of Chelsea, Boubakary Soumare of Lille and most recently Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa have been linked, but Benfica's Florentino Luis is a name that has not gone away since January.

According to The Sun, Southampton are in the race to land Florentino as they want a replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who joined Spurs earlier in the window.

The Portuguese starlet has previously attracted interest from Manchester United, the report claims, but Southampton's bad start to the season could force them into making a move.

The outlet adds that Fulham manager Scott Parker has had the 21-year-old watched by scouts, while Milan are also keen.

Fulham to let McDonald leave on a free transfer

Fulham will allow Scottish international midfielder Kevin McDonald to leave on a free transfer, according to a Sky Sports report this afternoon.

The popular 31 year-old midfielder has been a stalwart in four years at Craven Cottage, significantly strengthening Slavisa Jokanovic's side when he was signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers after a lengthy pursuit in 2016. McDonald, who quickly became an automatic pick patrolling in front of the back four, has been part of two promotion-winning sides from the Championship but has rarely featured in the first-team in each of the last two seasons and is understood to be eager to play regular football again.

Fulham are reportedly willing to allow McDonald to leave Craven Cottage on a free transfer in recognition of his contribution both on and off the field. The former Dundee United midfielder has made 127 appearances for the Whites, scoring six goals, and is credited with being a vocal and important member of the dressing room. He has slipped down the pecking order of late and with Mario Lemina and Harrison Reed signing this summer – allied with Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa's return from his loan spell at Villarreal – McDonald's chances of featuring under Scott Parker appear remote.

McDonald, who is currently undertaking his coaching badges, wants to continue his playing career and Fulham do not want to impede chances of reigniting his career by holding out for a high-value offer for his services. The experienced midfielder's current Craven Cottage deal expires at the end of this season.

Garry Monk issues injury update ahead of Sheffield Wednesday's Carabao Cup game at Fulham

The Owls are without just two senior players through injury - but Monk has good news on that front

Garry Monk has updated Sheffield Wednesday fans on the fitness of the only two missing senior players.

Defensive duo Chey Dunkley and Osaze Urhoghide both missed the whole of the shortened pre-season with injuries.

Dunkley, a free transfer summer recruit after leaving Wigan, has not played in a competitive match since last February because of a serious double leg break while Urhoghide has been sidelined for a lengthy period due to a knee problem.

Monk has now issued positive updates on the pair.

But he admits they are both likely to be eased back into action with under-23 games before being pitched into the first team.

Speaking after Saturday's goalless draw with Watford, a result which extended the Owls' unbeaten run to four, Monk said: "Osaze is a little bit better. With Chey, we've had a really good report back from the scan.

"He's nearly there. Maybe just (another) week, maybe two weeks.

"But we'll see. Chey is kind of a daily one where it depends how he reacts each day to the training when we step it up and step it up.

"Osaze will need some under-23 games first. I think both will need some minutes in the under-23s before the ultra-competitive side of it with league and cup games.

"It'll be great to have them back in the squad.

"Osaze is pretty much there and Chey won't be far behind him."

Urhoghide could conceivably feature for the Lee Bullen's under-23s on Tuesday when they face Barnsley on Tuesday.

Monk is likely to ring the changes on Wednesday night for the third round EFL Cup tie at Fulham.

Julian Borner and Moses Odubajo were not involved against Watford but Monk admits it was purely down to the players in the side performing well.

The pair could come back into the matchday 18-man squad along with the likes of Ciaran Brennan and Conor Grant.

"The whole squad is competing and performing and that's what you want," added Monk.

Fulham reportedly in talks over £14m signing, director confirms Cottagers' interest

Fulham could pay £14 million to bring Marlon to the Premier League after Sassuolo's sporting director confirmed interest from Scott Parker's side, according to The Sun (21 September, page 45).

Two games, zero points, seven goals conceded – this Fulham team appears to have more than a few things in common with the side that bombed out of the division in 2018/19.

The Cottagers let in 81 goals that season – six more than Norwich conceded last term.

And if those error-prone defeats against Arsenal and Leeds United are anything to go by, Swindon Town's place in the Premier League history books may be under threat.

No wonder Fulham have made a new centre-back their top priority before the window shuts, with former Barcelona youngster Marlon emerging as a £14 million target.

"We had an offer from Fulham, an important one, so we are evaluating it and the negotiations are in progress. We'll see over the next few days if we can conclude them," Giovani Carnevali told Sky Italia while reiterating his desire to keep Roberto di Zerbi's star players at the Mapei Arena.

Marlon, a 25-year-old Brazilian, stood out during a loan spell at Nice in 2017/18 before moving to Sassuolo.

The journeyman stopper would arrive in England having established himself as one of the finest defenders in French and Italian football, having honed his talents at Barca.

Strong, sturdy and technically gifted, Marlon also averages a 94 per cent pass completion rate, suggesting he'd have little trouble adapting to Parker's possession-based approach.

AC Milan Make Fulham and Cameroon Midfielder A Concrete Target

The midfielder looks primed for a role in the Rossoneri squad and looks very solid.

MilanNews.it are reporting that there are confirmations arriving on the approach for Fulham midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa by AC Milan as an alternative to Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. The Cameroon international was on loan at Villarreal during the previous season but has played extensively for Marseille where he made his name. The 24 year old defensive midfielder could be a solid alternative as the cost of the Bakayoko operation is acting as a block for the deal.

Calcio Mercato are reporting that Anguissa is one of the top alternatives to Bakayoko despite the midfielder being at the top of the wish list for the moment. The other names being considered are Florentino Luis from Benfica and Boubakary Soumare from Lille. There are no reports of talks being opened for the midfielder at the moment but the coming weeks seems decisive as Milan kick off in the Serie A and face another knock out round in the Europa League.

Report: Fulham and Burnley battling to bring £5.5m man back to Premier League

Fulham are battling Burnley to secure the signing of Craig Dawson, with the Watford defender in line for an immediate return to the Premier League, according to the Mirror (21 September, page 44).

While the £5.5 million man could not be absolved of blame as Watford's leaky defence cost them a place in the first division last term, Dawson did enough in yellow and black to keep himself in the gossip columns.

Fulham and Burnley both conceded four apiece in Premier League defeats to Leeds United and Leicester City this weekend.

And, with just a fortnight left in the transfer window, the Mirror reports that Dawson has suddenly become a man in demand.

Scott Parker's Fulham have identified the 30-year-old former West Brom man as a player capable of adding some top-flight experience and adaptability to a back line which looks about as porous now as it did during that dismal 2018/19 season.

Dawson is equally comfortable at right-back and at centre-half, after all.

Burnley, meanwhile, have apparently identified the former England U21 international as a potential replacement for West Ham-linked James Tarkowski.

But, even with Tarkowski expected to stay, after the Hammers saw a third bid worth £31 million rejected, Dawson would add some valuable depth in a Burnley squad lacking quality in reserve.

An old-school centre-back who loves to put his body on the line, Dawson is very much a Sean Dyche-style defender, and offers the sort of backs-against-the-wall mentality Fulham are crying out for.

Exclusive: Fulham make approach to sign £5m-valued Leicester City player

Fulham have made an approach to sign Leicester City midfielder Daniel Amartey, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium over the past few seasons having struggled with injury.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Leicester are willing to sell the Ghanian for around £5million this summer.

The Cottagers have held a long-term interest in the defensive midfielder, who can also play across the back line, and tried to sign him in the January transfer window.

Amartey has two years remaining on his contract with the Foxes, having penned a new deal in December 2018.

The Ghana international spent nearly two years on the sidelines with an ankle injury suffered in a 1-1 draw with West Ham United in October 2018.

He made his playing return earlier this month and scored in a 1-1 friendly draw with Blackburn Rovers in the build up to the 2020/21 campaign.

Amartey arrived in a near £6million deal from FC Copenhagen in January 2016 and has made 64 appearances for the Foxes, winning the Premier League in his first season at the club.

He has not featured in a competitive match under Brendan Rodgers and may be deemed surplus to requirements by the Northern Irishman with Wilfried Ndidi, Youri Tielemans, Nampalys Mendy and Hamza Choudhury all vying for the holding midfield positions.

Fulham boss Scott Parker is looking to bolster his squad before the October 5 transfer deadline

Amartey would become the club's ninth summer signing following the arrivals of Antonee Robinson, Kenny Tete, Ola Aina, Mario Lemina, Alphonse Areola, Anthony Knockeart and Harrison Reed.

The Cottagers have lost their first two Premier League fixtures of the 2020/21 campaign, including a 4-3 loss to Leeds United last weekend.

Report: Sassuolo defender Marlon is open to a move to Fulham if a deal can be reached

According to The Athletic's Peter Rutzler, Fulham want to sign a centre-back this summer and they are in talks to sign Sassuolo defender Marlon Santos.

While an agreement is yet to be reached, sources close to the Brazilian have confirmed that he is open to a move to Craven Cottage if a deal can be reached.

The 25-year-old has played 42 Serie A games for Sassuolo since arriving from Barcelona in the summer of 2018 following a season-long loan spell at OGC Nice, and he is now keen to move to the English Premier League after a move to Newcastle United fell through two years ago.

There was a problem with his work permit then, but that shouldn't be a problem at the moment and Fulham could be snapping him up.

Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali has confirmed to Sky Italia that Scott Parker's side have made an offer for the £14 million-rated centre-back, and he has said that they are evaluating it and the negotiations are in progress.

A deal could be sealed in the coming days and Fulham really need a quality defender after shipping seven Premier League goals and recording zero points in their two opening games of the campaign.

Marlon brings quality and much-needed experience to the table, and he could be a quality addition to the Cottagers' backline.

Fulham eye Amartey deal

Fulham have made an offer for Leicester City midfielder Daniel Amartey, according to reports this afternoon.

The Foxes are willing to sell the 25 year-old, who has struggled for both fitness and form of late at the King Power Stadium, and is now not considered an integral part of Brendon Rodgers' squad. Leicester value the Ghanaian international at around £5m and Fulham have held a long-standing interest in the former Djurgardens and Copenhagen man, having had approaches rebuffed last January.

Amartey signed for Leicester for around £6m in January 2016 and made five first-team appearances as the Foxes surprised everyone by winning the Premier League title under Claudio Ranieri. He succeeded Ngolo Kante in the holding midfield role the following season, making 35 appearances and scoring a single goal, a late leveller at Stoke City. He has suffered several injury setbacks at Leicester, breaking his ankle and being sidelined for nearly two years before making a goalscoring return in a pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers earlier this summer.

Amartey, who has won 26 caps for Ghana, helped the Black Stars finish fourth in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was named in the team of the tournament. The powerful midfielder, who won the Danish title and two domestic cups during his team with Copenhagen, can also play in central defence, which remains a problem position for Scott Parker.

Report: Fulham express interest in ex-PL attacker who cost £22.5m last summer

According to German outlet Kicker, Fulham are interested in signing Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig.

The former Everton man only joined the Bundesliga giants last summer for £22.5 million (BBC). But he has barely been given a chance. Lookman started just two games last season, which really is a shame considering his huge potential.

Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann has left him as an unused substitute in both of their games so far this season. It seems almost certain that Lookman will struggle for game time once again this term, which has opened up an opportunity for a potential transfer.

Newly-promoted Fulham are reportedly interested in signing the former Everton attacker. Leipzig would be open to selling him permanently but there is no way that they will recoup the money that they paid for him a little over a year ago.

The report claims that Fulham are keen but only a loan move would be possible this summer. That could potentially work out well for both parties if it was to happen in the coming weeks.

Fulham have had a dreadful start to the Premier League this term. If Lookman does come in and changes the club's fortunes, Scott Parker's side could survive and they may look to sign him permanently next summer.

Leipzig could also look to recoup almost all of the money that they paid Everton last summer if Lookman has a good season. If the Englishman impresses, they may well bring him back to Germany for a season in the Bundesliga, which would be a positive for the young attacker.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Fulham desperately need some help and Lookman has the quality to to be a real threat in attack.

However, they will have to find a way to convince Leipzig to let him leave on loan, and work out a financial package that would allow them to potentially get him back on a permanent deal in a year.

Fulham launch bid to sign Leicester City midfielder - report

The Cottagers believe they can lure him away from the King Power

Fulham are trying to lure Leicester City midfielder Daniel Amartey to Craven Cottage according to a report.

Football Insider claim the Cottagers have approached the Foxes about the availability of the Ghanaian who, it is claimed, could leave the King Power for £5m.

Amartey has struggled to feature in Brendan Rodgers' first-team plans, a problem not helped by injuries.

Fulham boss Scott Parker is said to be an admirer of the defensive midfielder and tried unsuccessfully to land him during the January window.

But they are now determined to get Amartey at the second time of asking with the player having two years remaining on his current deal.

Amartey, who signed for the club for £6m from FC Copenhagen four years ago,  did feature for Leicester in pre-season in a friendly draw against Blackburn Rovers but has not played in a competitive game under boss Brendan Rodgers.

Fulham, beaten by Leeds 4-3 at the weekend,  are keen to strengthen their squad ahead of the transfer window closing early next month after alreadying signing nine players this summer.

They have also allowed departures with then most recent being Cyrus Christie to Nottingham Forest.

Report: European giants have 24-year-old Fulham star on their wish list

Fulham spent a lot of money the last time they were in the Premier League. The Lilywhites signed seven players on a permanent deal in summer 2018 – but they still failed to avoid relegation that season.

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa was one of their most expensive buys that summer. The Cameroonian arrived from Marseille for £30 million (Goal) but he, like many others, left on loan after Fulham went down to the Championship.

Now they are back in the big time, Anguissa has returned. The 24-year-old has featured in every game this season and has an assist already. He seems to be very much in Scott Parker's plans, especially after the Lilywhites turned down a big bid for him.

Fulham rejected a £22.5 million bid from Villarreal for Anguissa last month (Sky Sports). The La Liga outfit have moved on but Parker might have to fend off interest from another big European club.

CalcioMercato claims AC Milan have Anguissa on their wish list. The Italian giants have Chelsea's Tiemoue Bakayoko as their priority target and talks have been ongoing between the clubs for some time.

However, Milan and Chelsea have yet to agree a deal for Bakayoko and the Rossoneri could turn their attention to Anguissa as a result, which would leave Fulham with a big decision to make.

Having used him in all three games, Parker clearly has Anguissa in his plans. However, with Mario Lemina now in the mix, the Cameroonian could be someone they might cash in on before the window ends.

Fulham spent a lot of money on Anguissa two years ago. If Milan table an offer anywhere close to the £30 million they paid for him, the Lilywhites may consider selling Anguissa to raise funds to strengthen other areas of the team.

Fulham Linked With Solid Serie A Central Defender: Much Needed Option For Parker?

Premier League new boys Fulham, are reportedly interested in signing Sassuolo defender Marlon. The 25-year-old joined the Italian club in 2018 from Barcelona and has since made 41 appearances in two seasons for the Serie A side.

According to Football Italia, the Brazilian is a target for Fulham and the Italian club's director confirmed talks between the two sides. The report claims that Marlon could be sold for a fee of around €15 million. Barcelona, who sold him for €6 million, will earn around half of the money from the sale of Marlon.

Marlon moved to the Catalan giants from Fluminense after a year-long loan spell and also had a loan spell at Nice before eventually moving to Sassuolo.

Marlon: A good option for Fulham?
Newly-promoted Fulham have been active in the transfer window, signing four players on permanent deals and three players on loan. Harrison Reed, Kenny Tete, Anthony Knockaert and Antonee Robinson were brought in on permanent deals, while Mario Lemina, Ola Aina, and Alphonse Areola were signed on loan. The Cottagers manager Scott Parker, has options all around the park but lacks depth in central defence.

In the two Premier League games that they have played in the season, they have already shipped in seven goals, losing 3-0 to Arsenal and 4-3 to Leeds United. It's quite clear that the centre-back position needs to be strengthened – and quickly, as they run the risk of falling behind only a month into the season.

Marlon could be a useful signing for Fulham, with the player expected to add some much-needed aggression to the Fulham backline. The Brazilian is a hard-tackling defender, who likes to push forward and win the ball, averaging 1.7 tackles per game last season. The 25-year-old is strong in one-on-one situations and does not rush into tackles.

The defender is very good with the ball at his feet and is a confident passer from the back. In the 2019-20 Serie A season, Marlon completed an average of 94.3% of his passes. He averaged 60.9 passes per game, as well as 2.7 long balls. All traits which will help Fulham to stabilise their backline and show more confidence and composure when in possession.

Fulham manager Scott Parker has emphasised on keeping the ball and passing it around instead of lumping hopeful balls forward, and the addition of Marlon could help them not just defensively, but offensively as well. The Cottagers need more players at the back, which makes this signing an important one for them and one that Parker should make sure is completed.

Fulham lining up Lookman deal

Fulham are close to completing a loan deal for the Red Bull Leipzig winger Ademola Lookman, according to a report from the Daily Mail this evening.

The former England under-21 international is keen on a return to England having struggled since leaving Everton in a £16.5million move to Germany last July. The Wandsworth-born winger made just thirteen appearances last season, failing to recapture the form that had convinced Leipzig to turn his previous loan into a permanent deal, when he scored five times in eleven appearances.

The former Charlton academy graduate is now in discussions with Fulham about a potential loan move, according to the Mail. Lookman made his Charlton debut as an eighteen year-old and made an immediate impact for the Addicks, scoring five goals in 24 appearances in his first season in senior football and being voted the Championship's apprenticeship of the year. He followed that up with seven goals in 25 appearances, which was enough for Everton to take him to Goodison Park in January 2017 for a fee rumoured to be in the region of £7.5m.

Lookman made a positive impression early on at Everton and scored four goals in 48 appearances for the Toffees but fell down the pecking order as new signings arrived. The 22 year-old is most at home on the left wing, but can also operate on the opposite flank or as a second striker. He has won eleven caps for England at under-21 level, scoring a single goal, and was part of the England under-20 side that won the World Cup in 2017 alongside Fulham's Josh Onomah.

Fulham signing this 22-year-old struggling Tottenham starlet would be a smart coup by Parker

Why Fulham signing Juan Foyth would bolster their backline

According to Twitter claims from The Athletic journalist Peter Rutzler, Fulham are ready to pursue a permanent deal for out-of-favour Tottenham centre-back Juan Foyth.

The reputed insider adds that the Cottagers are very much in the market for central defenders and have also identified Watford star Craig Dawson as a loan target.

Foyth had been linked with a move to fellow top-flight newcomers Leeds United earlier this summer but nothing has come of it yet. (h/t The Sun)

Profile
Born in La Plata, Argentina, Juan Foyth started his professional career with Estudiantes in his homeland and made just 9 first-team appearances for his boyhood club before completing a move to Tottenham in the summer of 2017.

The 22-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter for the Lilywhites due to stiff competition for places, featuring 32 times in all competitions. Foyth also boasts of 10 senior international caps for Argentina and represented La Albiceleste at the 2019 Copa America as a first-team regular.

Foyth would add more quality to Fulham's backline
Fulham have tried to strengthen their squad with some effective low-cost signings this summer following their promotion to the Premier League. Kenny Tete, Ola Aina and Antonee Robinson have been roped in to add more depth to the backline but the Cottagers are yet to bring in any central defensive reinforcements.

The Cottagers' defensive frailties cost them their top-flight status during the 2018-19 season, where they conceded 81 goals and finished rock-bottom of the standings. Scott Parker was handed a timely reminder of those issues in his team's 3-0 hammering at the hands of Arsenal on the opening day of the campaign.

Michael Hector started alongside veteran Tim Ream at the heart of the defence against the Gunners but neither of them looked particularly comfortable in dealing with the opposition's attacking forays. Maxime Le Marchand and Denis Odoi had a rather easy outing against Ipswich Town in the EFL Cup but one does get the feeling that Fulham need more quality at the back.

Juan Foyth presents a young and hungry option with plenty of untapped potential. The Cottagers shouldn't hesitate to take a punt on the Tottenham starlet as they bid to avoid another defensive debacle in the top-flight this time around.

The 22-year-old's career hasn't really taken off at Tottenham due to lack of game but he looks capable of shining in the Premier League if provided with regular minutes. The fact that he has already established himself as a regular for Argentina speaks volumes of his progress while Foyth's versatility to operate as a right-back is also something that should appeal to Fulham.

Verdict
Juan Foyth could be a really handy option for Fulham, who desperately need some fresh faces to add more depth and quality to their central defensive unit. Having said that, the 22-year-old still has his best years ahead of him and the Cottagers raiding their London rivals for the Argentine international would be a shrewd piece of business.

Ademola Lookman: Fulham in talks with RB Leipzig over loan deal
Leipzig paid £22.5m to sign Lookman from Everton last summer after taking the winger on loan the previous season

Fulham are in talks with RB Leipzig over a deal to bring Ademola Lookman back to the Premier League.

Boss Scott Parker wants to bring the 22-year-old winger to Craven Cottage on loan for the season.

Leipzig paid £22.5m to sign Lookman from Everton last summer after taking him on loan the previous season.

But Lookman struggled to make an impact in the Bundesliga since making his switch permanent, featuring on just 11 occasions in the league last term.

RB Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga last season, qualifying automatically for the Champions League group stages

Born in London, Lookman began his career at Charlton before moving to Everton in the 2017 January Transfer Window.

Lookman has featured throughout the age groups at youth team level for England, making 11 appearances for the U21s.

Garry Monk makes pledge as Sheffield Wednesday prepare for Carabao Cup clash at Fulham

The Owls take on Premier League opposition in the third round

Garry Monk insists Sheffield Wednesday will take the game to Fulham when they travel to the Premier League side tomorrow night.

The Owls head to the Premier League newboys for a Carabao Cup third round clash.

Monk's side have made a fine start to the 2020-21 campaign, and are still unbeaten after four games.

They have also not conceded a goal in those four outings and have already reduced their league handicap from minus 12 points to minus eight.

Ahead of the trip to Craven Cottage, Monk says his side have more than a good chance of producing an upset, provided they can maintain their recent high standards.

He said: "It's another opportunity for us to try to continue (the run). We're playing against a Premier League side away.

"We're looking forward to it and to give a good account of ourselves. The standards we've set are high.

"It's a difficult ask but if we keep showing the same attitude we have, it's a bit of freedom on us going to a Premier League club.

"We've done very well in the cup so far and we want to try and make sure in this round that we can do just as well.

"We've got our own high standards and if we can do that we'll be in with a chance of winning games against anyone.

"We deserve to be there and we'll have a good go at it."

Monk could shuffle his pack for the tie, with the likes of Moses Odubajo, Elias Kachunga and Alex Hunt all potential starters for the clash in the capital.

As for Monk's opposite number, Scott Parker, he is keen for his side to impress despite their number one priority being Premier League survival.

He said: "It's a competition that you're involved in so you want to try and win.

"Of course you have priorities, you want to try and field your best side in a competition that after two or three games you're into the nitty gritty of it.

"We've got Sheffield Wednesday and we'll go into that game hoping to try and progress."
