In Both Camps, Fulham

Fulham is back in the best party and several "foxes" has also been at "the cottage" during the years, with players from the past such as Allan Clarke and Steve Earle coming to mind. They had good careers in both camps, and became favorites among fans.

Allan Clarke became the most expensive signing ever, not only for Leicester City but also a British record when Matt Gillies decided to pay £150.000 for his services. His time with Leicester City lasted only a season, and sold on to Leeds United for another record fee, £165.000, ironically signed by a former Leicester City player, Don Revie.

Barry Hayles played his best football while at Fulham, signed from Bristol Rovers and part of that group that took Fulham back to the limelight as they ran the league ladder up while depending on Barry's goalscoring skills. At the age of 48, Hayles is still active in football, playing for Merstham FC. Hayles had a short stay at Leicester City from 2008 to 2009, did play 28 games and scoring a modest amount of 2 goals.

Anthony Knockaert is today a Fulham player, but recenlty loaned out to Nottingham Forest. He has become something of a League Championship promotion expert as his play and goals for Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and last season while at Craven Cottage helping all of them to promotion to the Premier League. But as soon as the clubs reach the top level, Anthony looks surplus and not the player they want in their teams, but fondly remember Knockaert from the days at Leicester City, when being integral for Nigel Pearson during a couple of seasons of pushing promotion.

Richard Stearman is another former fox with a life at the cottage. We all remember him from his early years in football with Leicester City, and while "foxes" have flown to the top, Stearman made his mark in the 2nd tier mostly, though being involved at Premier League level over a number of seasons at a few clubs, he cannot be said to be an established Premier League performer. Stearman played for Fulham from 2015 to 2017 playing 29 league games.

Not to forget Kasey Keller who we all remember from his days at Leicester City as a stabile and trustworthy goalkeeper, with him also turning out for Fulham later in his career. Mark Schwarzer had his best years in the game while at Craven Cottage, and being the understudy at Leicester City during that wonderful 2015/16 season.

Left back Paul Konchesky was another of those recent stars to have played in both clubs. Joining from Liverpool and before that move playing for Fulham from 2007 to 2010. His time with Leicester City lasted five years joining the club in 2011 and leaving after his contract ended in 2016. 97 league games with Fulham, 138 for Leicester City.

Billy McKinlay had two periods with Leicester City, firstly under Martin O'Neill, a short lived loan spell and later joining Micky Adams in that 2002/03 campaign, staying on for one more season. Later a player coach at Fulham were he also played a couple of league games back in 2004-05.

The Confinement Made That I Was Much More on It' – Alphonse Areola on His Love for the Call of Duty Franchise

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, who's on loan to Premier League club Fulham FC, spoke with RMC Sport to discuss one of his off the pitch hobbies, video games.

With the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the 27-year-old talked to the French media outlet about the video game's release, among other topics surrounding the Call of Duty franchise.

The coronavirus pandemic had many inside their homes for a prolonged time. With plenty of time on Areola's hands, he decided to craft his skills when it came to Call of Duty. The France international discussed that he became more of an avid player of Call of Duty during the quarantine confinement during the pandemic's early stages.

"I played a lot in the last (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare). It counts in hours, even in days. The confinement made that I was much more on it," Areola said. "I also played the last, but I especially played a lot in Black Ops II. I loved the card with the boat."

Areola then credited Mario Kart for developing a love for video games. He then transitioned over to discussing the e-sports world and how impressed he is in the training facilities that gamers have to build their skills.

"I like to follow on streaming channels, etc. After that, I'm not on it all day either. But I did an event there. He was two or three years old at Levallois," Areola said. "There were e-sport facilities. It's impressive. They have put in the means to progress. It's like us: training centers for gamers."

Fulham dodged a bullet in not signing Florentino Luis

Fulham were one of several Premier League clubs interested in Benfica hot-shot Florentino Luis on loan during the summer transfer window but after his disappointing start to life on loan at AS Monaco, it looks like the Cottagers made the right decision in not signing him.

As per the Daily Mail, the West London club offered a £2 million loan fee, with the view to buying him for £25 million at the end of his stay.

However, a deal could not be agreed with the Portuguese giants, perhaps due to the 21-year-old's new contract in 2019 including a release clause of £107 million, and he ended up joining Monaco on loan instead.

The Portugal U21 international has not had the best start to life with the French club, however, having averaged a very poor 6.07 rating across his four appearances in Ligue 1 so far (per Whoscored).

If he were to have replicated that form with Fulham, it would be enough to see him ranked as the fifth-worst player in Scott Parker's squad, comfortably behind the majority of midfielders at the West London club (per WhoScored).

Luis, who is currently valued at £16.2 million by Transfermarkt, has been likened to Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante for his style of play but his performances at Monaco so far suggest that he is a long way off the French international in terms of current ability.

Whilst the Portuguese midfielder is just 21-years-old, and clearly has a lot of potential to grow, he is not what Fulham would have needed for this campaign as they fight relegation from the Premier League.

Luis' former coach Joao Tralhao was highly complimentary of the youngster in 2019, saying:

"Florentino is the type of player that all the major clubs want to have in their squads because he's still very young but he's a very talented player in the one position that it's sometimes not easy to find.

"It's not easy to find someone like him in Europe, even in the world. A player who can defend like anyone is excellent, his perception of his defensive role is amazing, absolutely amazing, his perception of the positioning, the timing is completely exceptional, and attacking he can play, he can build, he can do everything the coach wants." (per Goal)

Unfortunately, Luis is yet to live up to his reputation with Niko Kovac's side in France and Fulham look to have dodged a bullet by not signing him. Although there are signs to suggest that he could be a great player in the future, he perhaps wouldn't have been suitable for a loan spell in the Premier League this season as Fulham need instant results in order to stay up, not a long-term project.
