Title: What annoyed me the most.
Post by: bobby01 on May 10, 2021, 09:57:22 PM
After the game Parker shook hands with every Burnley player and coach he could find, ignored his own team, bloody disgraceful.

Going to break my own rule and post while disappointed in the immediate aftermath of a defeat, but you and the regular non-supporters will be blaming him next for your pet goldfish pegging out. People want a different manager, that's a reasonable opinion. But sneering at things like his press comments and shaking hands after a game with opponents is just inane.

Agree.

Parker's done nothing but back the players publicly during this poor run. And it was Tarkowski who approached Parker that began the handshaking. So what that Parker responded sportingly? If the O.P. is implying Parker doesn't feel hurt, I'd say he'd be completely wrong.

At times I am sure I watch or read totally different games or articles than those that feature on here. If SP had rejected the handshake he would likely be demonised as an arrogant oink. He does the decent thing and shows respect in what must be a very tough moment and he still cops it.

I have no problem with him shaking other players hands, but we had young players out there clearly upset, they were ignored and that was wrong.

I havent seen it and I also accept what everyones saying about not accepting the hand shake.
But from a position of not watching the game. I'd like to believe any manager would be straight on the pitch putting an arm on the shoulder of their players, not stood in a position someone could be offering him a handshake?

Not that I'm massively bothered by this, just the thoughts that I were getting from reading this.

(Also I've not watched the match..... yet, because of being at work, not because of a choice)

exactly so. tonight he backed them again. he may have been dispointed they didn't do better but he clearly believed in them.

I disagree

At various points pre-season and during the early stages of the season SP was quoted as saying that "we can expect to lose more games than we win" or "lose 3-4 matches in a row" or words to that effect.

Nothing about that to me screams confidence in the playing group.

Oh come on - do you really think that Scott was doing anything other than stating the blindingly obvious, that we will lose games in the division, with so many teams  whose players individually   cost more than the whole Fulham side.
He was just trying to protect his players from unwarranted fan hostility when we inevitably lost some games.
But everything he's said has shown  confidence in  his players, and praised them.

I find it hard to believe that anyone really thinks that he didn't  have faith in his team, and fully backed them.
How many times recently has he said that this team can win the games  ahead and stay up, and that he really believes in them, and I'm sure  he would expect the players to go and try to win every game, whoever the opponent - and we have beaten some top  opponents this season.

Find it hard to believe that the op  really believes  what he's writing.

I know you love SP but have you heard any other manager in the history of the PL come out and say anything like that?

No.

In any case, my point still stands as he has not publicly backed the players consistently as Arthur has pointed out, in fact he has stated on numerous times that he doesn't think they're good enough essentially.

As a kid and playing school football you always gave the opposition team a clap after the game. Even after a real thumping. So I don't have a problem with SP, who was no doubt gutted, shaking hands with the Burnley players.
I've watched most of the televised games this season and he's always supported his squad. He's not comfortable in front of the camera's but saying that never ducks out or cuts short his interviews.
If you're going to blame him for our performances and ultimately our relegation that's fine but who was responsible for that bit in the middle when we looked solid and looked like we might climb out of trouble?
I really hope SP is still manager next season.
