Antonsson scores for Iceland U19s

Fulham defender Thorsteinn Aron Antonsson scored his first international goal this afternoon as Iceland under 19 side drew 2-2 with the Faroe Islands' under 21s in a friendly in Toftar today.

Antonsson opened the scoring with a header in the first half. The 17 year-old defender, who joined Fulham from Selfloss last October, made four league appearances for Steve Wigley's under 18 side last night as the young Whites successfully defended their U18 Premier League south title. The 6ft 6in centre half is highly rated at Motspur Park and should add to his international experience at the weekend when the Icelandic youngsters play their second match of their brief tour on Sunday.

Johansen to QPR: Does recent Fulham announcement suggest permanent Rs switch?

Fulham announced their retained list last night but QPR-linked Stefan Johansen didn't feature on it.

Johansen, 30, has a year left on his Fulham contract and with the option to extend it by a further year.

Though the Norway man didn't feature on the club's retained list and it's got one or two fans thinking that the midfielder could now be on his way to QPR in a permanent deal.

QPR have not hidden the fact that they want to bring Johansen back to the club ahead of next season. He shone during his loan spell in the second half of the season just gone and Rs fans really warmed to his performances in midfield.

Yesterday, West London Sport reported that QPR were in talks with Fulham regarding a potential transfer and Fulham's retained list might be a hint that Scott Parker's side are resigned to losing him to their west London neighbours.

For the Whites it'd be a huge blow – Johansen proved at QPR that he's a player with real quality but for too long he was overlooked at Craven Cottage, and he's since become a cult hero at QPR.

Thoughts?
QPR completing this signing would mean that all four of the loan quartet that came in over January and turned the club's season would all be permanent figures.

Charlie Austin, Jordy de Wijs and Sam Field are all now at QPR on a permanent basis and fans are waiting eagerly on Johansen to be confirmed.

At one point it seemed unlikely but things seem to be falling into place now.

Robinson makes first competitive start for USA

Fulham full back Antonee Robinson made his first competitive start for the United States as Gregg Berhalter's side scraped past Honduras in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League in Denver last night.

A young American side were below par for much of the game and had to wait until the very last minute for substitute Jordan Siebatcheu to clinch their spot in the final with a diving header. The USA will now face the winner of the second semi-final between Mexico and Costa Rica on Sunday.

Robinson won his eleventh senior cap for the United States and played 78 minutes at left back before being replaced by Reggie Canoon.

'Disgraceful', 'Sell them!' – Plenty of Fulham fans react as club announces retained list
Fulham announced their retained list following the 2020/21 season last night, with a number of players departing the club.

Fulham will release a host of players when they reach the end of their contracts at the end of this month, with the biggest departure arguably being Kevin McDonald.

Elsewhere, new deals have been offered to the likes of defensive duo Cyrus Christie and Maxime le Marchand, whilst all their loan names have returned to their parent clubs.

It's a relatively large clear out ahead of their Championship return and it's McDonald's departure that has garnered the most attention – the fan favourite leaves after five seasons at Craven Cottage.

Scott Parker's side were relegated from the Premier League for a second time in three seasons last month and return to the Championship alongside West Brom and Sheffield United.

Sheffield United are 'definitely' keen on signing Fulham's Tom Cairney

Sheffield United are believed to hold a genuine interest in signing Tom Cairney from Fulham.

Sheffield United are 'definitely' interested in the Fulham playmaker, according to talkSPORT transfer insider Dean Jones.

Speaking on the latest episode of Touchline Talk on YouTube, Jones said the Blades are keen on landing the Scotland international.

Their new boss, Slavisa Jokanovic, knows him well from managing him at Fulham.

Sheffield United are aiming to make an immediate return to the Premier League next season and will be in the hunt for some reinforcements to their squad.

Cairney, who is 30 years old, knows what it takes to get out of the Championship.

He has been with the London club since 2015 and has made 212 appearances for them in all competition to date, chipping in with 37 goals.

Cairney started his career at Hull City and broke into their first-team as a youngster before playing 80 times for the Tigers.

He left East Yorkshire following their promotion to the top flight in 2013 and subsequently dropped back into the Championship to join Blackburn Rovers.

The attacking midfielder then spent two seasons at Ewood Park before Fulham lured him down south.

Cairney is a player who Jokanovic likes and it is no surprise to see the new Sheffield United is interested in bringing him to Bramall Lane this summer.

USA Reach Nations League Final

Antonee Robinson helped the United States reach the inaugural CONCACAF Nations League Final on Thursday in Denver.

The Fulham man started at left-back in their 1-0 Semi-Final win against Honduras, with the States naming their second youngest side ever in a competitive outing, with an average age of 23 years and 259 days.

Robinson almost set up an opener after half an hour when he delivered a beautiful in-swinging cross onto the head of Josh Sargent, but the Werder Bremen forward saw his nodded effort saved.

The decisive moment arrived in the 89th minute when Weston McKennie diverted the ball back across the face of goal to Jordan Siebatcheu who dispatched a fine header high into the net.

Robinson played 78 minutes of the game, while Tim Ream was an unused substitute.

The United States will now face Mexico in the Nations League Final on Sunday.

Ivan Cavaleiro reacts as Cyrus Christie posts Nottingham Forest message

Fulham forward Ivan Cavaleiro has taken to Instagram to respond to a post from defender Cyrus Christie on his personal account displaying his highlights from the season at Nottingham Forest.

Christie spent the campaign on loan with Nottingham Forest in the Championship, and the right-back managed to enjoy a promising enough spell at the City Ground after a difficult start. The defender managed to make 44 appearances in the league and provided three assists, as well as helping the Reds record 14 clean sheets.

It has now been confirmed within their retained list that Christie has been handed an extension to his deal by Fulham. That means that the right-back could be set to stick around at Craven Cottage next season and try and help Scott Parker's side challenge for an immediate return to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old took to his personal Instagram account to share a video of his highlights reel from his season out on loan with Nottingham Forest.

His post drew a response from Cavaleiro who was quick to suggest that he had been a strong performer for the Reds during his loan spell at the City Ground going off the highlights on show.

The Verdict

Christie was looking likely to be facing an uncertain future this summer following his deal with Fulham coming to an end and having been allowed to go out on loan last term. However, it now seems that after being handed an extension there is a lifeline for him to still have an important role to play at Craven Cottage next term.

The right-back managed to show a lot of improvements during the campaign with Nottingham Forest, and after a difficult start to the campaign, he was one of their most important players in a frustrating season for the club. That reminded everyone of the quality that he does have and that he can be an excellent option in the Championship for any side.

Cavaleiro clearly feels that Christie might be able to make an impact for Fulham next term, judging by his reaction to the defender's highlights reel from his loan spell with Forest. The 28-year-old will be facing the big task of trying to get himself back firmly in Parker's favour but he has the ability to do that you feel.

Fulham comment: Patience with Parker can only stretch so far before the inevitable

Fulham had 10 games in the 2018/19 Premier League under the guiding hand of Scott Parker after Slavisa Jokanovic was sacked. He couldn't save them.

Fulham spent big that first season in the Premier League but it was in vain as they came straight back down after the 2018/19 campaign as a 19th-placed side with Parker winning three of his 10 games in charge – the other seven all losses.

They rebounded from that and went up again in 2019/20 via the Championship play-offs only to suffer a second relegation from last season's Premier League – coming down as the 18th-placed side.

All of this has left Parker learning a harsh lesson about the gulf in class between the Premier League and the Sky Bet Championship.

Fulham under Parker – a brief look

40-year-old Parker became Fulham boss in late February 2019 – effectively the Cottager's Premier League fate had been all but sealed by the time of his appointment.

He's gone on to manage the Craven Cottage outfit for 105 games – earning an average of 1.3 points per game over that time.

His record stands at 37 wins, 25 draws and 43 losses to give him a 41% win rate as Fulham boss. He's used 53 players across his time at the club – scoring on average 1.06 goals per game and conceding 1.28 goals.

He's managed Fulham for 49 Premier League games (W8/D13/L27) and 49 Championship games (W25/D12/L12) – this shows he has a measure of the Championship.

Comment: Surely Fulham's Parker patience can only stretch so far

ootball is, ultimately, a results business and managers' futures walk a fine line along that premise. Get it right, they stay; get it wrong, they are gone.

In a way, Scott Parker has shown that he can do half a job – the Championship job at Fulham. That much is clear and his record demonstrates that.

Yet, his record also more than demonstrates that he cannot do the Premier League job and that is where the axe usually falls hardest.

Given that he's proven that the side he helped assemble can't cope with the Premier League, the question must remain as to how long the bigwigs at Fulham will put up with the Cottagers becoming a yo-yo side between the Championship and Premier League?

Players are tipped to leave Craven Cottage this summer and there is one point that surely has to be put forward. How long will Fulham bear their patience towards Scott Parker's management before the inevitable happens?

That inevitability? Well, the realisation that Parker isn't the man for the Craven Cottage job!

Statistics derived from Scott Parker's profile on the Transfermarkt website.

Fulham player in contract negotiations as future hangs in the balance

Marcus Bettinelli is currently in discussions with Fulham over his future with his contract expiring at the end of this month.

The Lilywhites return to the Sky Bet Championship for next season and will be looking to bounce back as soon as possible to the Premier League if they can.

A changed squad is probably likely given the change in division, meanwhile, and the club has confirmed its retained and released list this week.

Among the key points, goalkeeper Bettinelli, as per the club's website, is in dialogue over his future and it just remains to be seen where he's going to end up and decide he wants his future to lie.

The Verdict

Bettinelli's appearances have dropped considerably in recent years for Fulham and he'll want to know just what Scott Parker's plans are for him before he puts pen to paper on any new deal.

He spent time on loan at Middlesbrough last season and featured fairly regularly but Boro have since signed Joe Lumley from Queens Park Rangers so perhaps that avenue is closed.

He has something to offer the right club, but he needs to work out whether his current side is that or whether it's time to move.

Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Fulham: 3 teams who'd be 'perfect' for 21 goal contribution free-agent

Swansea have just released their retained list and, amongst the expected departures, one stands out – striker Andre Ayew.

Swansea lost the Championship Play-Off Final to Brentford and this might have played a part in the thinking of both parties when it came to negotiations and contract offers.

Ghana captain Ayew was one of the big earners at the Liberty Stadium – on a reported £80,000-per-week wage. The wage situation is something that Ayew has been open about when talking to the press.

Ayew is now moving towards free agency when his contract runs out at the end of this month and it is unlikely that a player of his calibre will be on the free-agent pile for long.

Andre Ayew: time at Swansea City recalled

31-year old Ayew has been with the Swans since joining from West Ham on Deadline Day, January 31 2018.

This was his second spell at the club, having arrived from Marseille in a 2015 free transfer deal. From his arrival, he did not take long to endear himself to the Jack Army faithful on the terraces.

During his time at the Welsh club, Ayew has gone on to make 141 appearances – scoring 47 goals and providing 19 assists.

Ayew has been particularly potent across the last two seasons with Swansea City. In that time he has been the spearhead of their attack – scoring 33 Championship goals and providing 11 assists across 92 games.

However, with the release of their retained list, Andre Ayew's time at Swansea has come to an end and it is time for him to take the next steps in his career.

Bournemouth, Fulham and Sheffield United – three teams where Ayew would fit

His high wage will be a problem for many Championship sides who are having to cut their cloth carefully due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

However, Bournemouth, Fulham and Sheffield United will be buoyed by Premier League parachute payments so they'd be able to afford his demands.

Here is a look at Ayew and his output when compared to the season output of each club's main goal scorer last season:

Andre Ayew – just why he'd be a fit

As the above comparison, courtesy of Squawka.com shows, Andre Ayew more than matches up to each team's main goalscorer in various areas of output.

Bournemouth are a side likely to feel an intense interest in attacking forward Arnaut Danjuma (17 goals/seven assists) after his performances in last season's Championship campaign. This would leave a position open alongside Dominic Solanke – that's if he stays. Ayew scores better than Solanke on the goal front (17 goals to 15) and created more chances (36 to 33) than his Bournemouth counterpart. He also bettered Solanke in lay-offs to teammates (40 to 30) and completed take-ons (68 to 62).

Sheffield United struggled in the Premier League and did so all season long. David McGoldrick (eight goals) and Billy Sharp (three goals) were their main threats in the top-tier. Both are quality Championship strikers but adding Ayew to the Blades ranks would improve them. Even taking into account the division difference, Ayew beats McGoldrick in every category. This would suggest that he'd be a big benefit to United's attempt to regain their Premier League berth at the first time of asking.

Fulham could well lose Aleksandr Mitrovic who some think might not fancy another Championship campaign at the head of the Cottagers attack. That was an attack spearheaded by Bobby Cordova-Reid in the Premier League where he scored eight goals. Cordova-Reid has a marginally better shot conversion rate (22.73% to 22.67%) than Ayew but the ex-Swansea man has more goal (17 to 5), more assists (4 to 2) and easily more lay-offs (40 to 21) and take-ons (68 to 27).

In short, Andre Ayew would be an asset to each of the above Championship sides and would easily complement their squad next season.

Comment: Fulham should take a punt on ex-Bournemouth striker Josh King

Fulham should be having a look at former Bournemouth and Everton striker Josh King after his release from the Toffees.

Fulham have recently fallen back into the Championship after relegation from the Premier League and will be hoping to make an instant return to the top flight.

The Cottagers really struggled in front of goal last season after scoring only 27 goals which was ultimately the reason they were relegated.

Their inability to put the ball in the back of the net was something that will have frustrated manager Scott Parker throughout the season after having a better defensive record than a lot of the teams around them that managed to survive.

They shipped fewer goals than the likes of Crystal Palace, Southampton, and Burnley but after having the second-worst record in front of goal, they were compounded to relegation.

The Whites made a move to try and secure the services of King in January as reported by The Sun, but the 29-year-old snubbed West London for a move to Everton instead.

King, who is now being let go by the Toffees after a six-month stint, is set to be a free agent and it may be a wise move from Fulham to go back after the Norweigan forward with only his wages having to be paid.

The forward could help to mend their problems in front of goal as he managed to find the net 48 times in 173 league games for Bournemouth.

With Josh Maja going back to Bordeaux and Alexander Mitrovic seemingly out in the cold, now could be the perfect time for Parker to make a move for King with his Championship experience and his ability to find the back of the net.

Should King make the move to West London, he could well have a similar impact that Dwight Gayle did for Newcastle United in the 2016/17 season as they went on to win the Championship title.

Marcus Bettinelli: Fulham goalkeeper in talks over new contract

Marcus Bettinelli's most recent competitive appearance for Fulham came in November 2019

Goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli is in talks with Fulham over a new contract following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

The 29-year-old spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Championship side Middlesbrough, making 42 appearances.

Meanwhile, the Whites have activated clauses to extend the deals of defenders Cyrus Christie and Maxime Le Marchand by a further year.

Centre-back Tim Ream has also agreed to extend his stay at Craven Cottage.

Midfielder Kevin McDonald, 32, has been released by the west London club.

The Scotland international made 128 appearances and scored six goals during a five-year spell with Fulham, helping them win two promotions to the top flight via the play-offs.

However, the former Burnley, Sheffield United and Wolves man did not play at all last season and had a kidney transplant last month.

Fulham make Cyrus Christie decision amid Nottingham Forest return possibility

The full-back was an ever-present in Chris Hughton's team during a loan spell at the City Ground.

Fulham have taken the decision to activate a clause in Cyrus Christie's contract to extend his stay at Craven Cottage for a further year.

The full-back was an ever-present for Nottingham Forest throughout the 2020/21 campaign, as he spent the season on loan at the City Ground.

He made 44 Championship appearances for the club.

Forest are understood to have an option to make the loan deal permanent at the end of the season, but it is unknown if the club will take that option.

The defender was due to be out of contract at Fulham, but the newly relegated side have taken the decision to extend his deal by a further year, meaning that he will not be available on a free transfer when the summer window opens.

Following what could be Christie's final appearance for the club, the full-back sent a farewell message to Reds' fans, speaking of his disappointment of not being able to play in front of them.

"Another season finished. A season with ups and downs, not reaching the levels as a team on a consistent basis that we were capable of to achieve the ultimate goal," he wrote.

"It was an honour to play for a big club like Forest but disappointing not to experience playing in front of the fans who I personally believe we missed massively this season to provide us with that extra spark and help us push in certain moments.

"It was always going to be a tough and different situation joining this club for various reasons but a challenge I fully embraced wearing the Garibaldi shirt with pride while changing a lot of peoples perspectives along the way.

"I've met some incredible people at this football club from players to the club staff and wish everyone nothing but the best for the future."

It remains to be seen if Christie will be part of Fulham's first team squad this season as they look to bounce straight back from relegation from the Premier League.

American defender Tim Ream agrees to new deal with Fulham

American defender Tim Ream will stay with Fulham after yet another relegation.

The club said Thursday the 33-year-old from St. Louis had agreed to a new contract.

Ream has been with Fulham since the start of the 2015-16 season. The stay included promotion to the Premier League for 2018-19, relegation to the second-tier League Championship for 2019-20, promotion for 2020-21 and relegation following this season, when the Cottagers finished 18th among the 20 teams with five wins, 20 losses and 13 draws.

Ream appeared in just seven league matches this season, down from 44 in 2019-20. Following an Oct. 24 loss to Crystal Palace, he was limited to a pair of FA Cup appearances until after relegation was assured. He then played in the final two games, against Manchester United on May 18 and the season finale against Newcastle five days later.

A former player for the New York Red Bulls (2010-11) and Bolton (2012-15), Ream is with the U.S. national team this week, preparing for the CONCACAF Nations League final against Mexico on Sunday in Denver.

Fulham freeze season ticket prices

Fulham have written to their season ticket holders today confirming that the club will be freezing the price of season tickets following their relegation from the Premier League.

A letter from the club advises supporters that '2021/22 season ticket prices will be frozen at the amount existing supporters paid for the 2019/20 campaign'. Fans have also been told that the renewal process will be conducted entirely digitally this year as the club prepares to 'welcome the safe and regular return of supporters to Craven Cottage for the 2021/22 season'.

Anguissa scores winner as Cameroon beat Nigeria

Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa scored the winner as Cameroon beat Nigeria for the first time in 21 years in Vienna this evening.

Anguissa, who had earlier bravely blocked a goalbound shot from Moses Simon, fired home a fantastic low shot from outside the box after capitalising on a poor clearance from William Troost-Ekong nine minutes before half-time. The 25 year-old's first international goal was enough to claim a morale-boosting win for Cameroon, who held firm despite prolonged pressure from the Super Eagles in the second half.

The two sides will meet again in another friendly on Tuesday.
