FULHAM APPOINT MARCO SILVA

The Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Marco Silva as our new Head Coach.
Silva has agreed a three-year deal with Fulham, keeping him at Craven Cottage until the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
He will be assisted by Club legend Luis Boa Morte, who made 250 appearances in a six-and-a-half year spell.
Speaking to fulhamfc.com, Silva said: "I'm really pleased and proud to be appointed Head Coach of such a historic football club. I want to thank the owner, Mr Khan, Tony Khan and the entire football structure of Fulham Football Club, for the trust shown in us. I'm excited to get started and my message for our fans ahead of this big challenge is we will all be working very hard together to be successful so they can feel proud at the end of the season."
Fulham Chairman Shahid Khan provided the following statement: "My commitment to Fulham Football Club is resolute and I therefore take to heart my obligation to provide our supporters with the very best possible, on the pitch and away from the game. In recent days, this responsibility entailed identifying, interviewing and hiring a head coach who would achieve all of our objectives as a club.
"I met Marco Silva in Portugal last week and was inspired. Marco's body of work in football was evident, but listening to him break down in detail his experiences at each of his stops as a head coach was thoroughly impressive. Marco also came prepared, with a full understanding of the players we have and ideas on how we can move forward this season. I loved his energy and optimism, and I'm confident Marco Silva is the right choice to lead Fulham Football Club as our new Head Coach.
"Finally, Marco will add to his backroom staff a true fan favourite. Luis Boa Morte played here, worked here, knows the Club and appreciates what the Fulham badge means to the supporters. That's a plus for all of us.
"Overall, I hope everyone who loves Fulham Football Club are as enthused to welcome Marco Silva to Fulham as I am proud to make this appointment. Come on, Fulham!"
This is Silva's fourth job in England, having previously led Hull City, Watford and Everton in the Premier League.
After transforming the fortunes of GD Estoril in his homeland – taking them from the brink of bankruptcy in the second tier, to the Europa League – he went on to win trophies in consecutive seasons with Sporting Clube de Portugal and Olympiakos, respectively.
He joined Hull in January 2017 with the team sitting bottom of the Premier League having won just three matches all season. Silva managed to ignite an immediate improvement in form, but their eight victories in the second half of the campaign weren't quite enough to save the club from relegation.
His style of play and impact at Hull prompted Watford to appoint him that summer. Silva was only at Vicarage Road for half a year, but left the club sitting in a healthy 10th spot in the Premier League.
Silva joined Everton in May 2018, and guided the club to an eighth place finish in his one full season in charge.

Return of the Dead Snake!!!
Looks like Shahid Khan got personally involved here. Happy to see Boa Morte back at the cottage.
No idea how this will go, obvs but I am looking forward to it.
Welcome and good luck.
I was a little uninspired originally when it became likely we would appoint him.
I'm coming around to him though, and I think we can expect a lot more dynamism, particularly from the midfield.
He knows where the squad needs to improve, so it will be interesting to see who we can attract.
Really pleased with this; onwards and upwards......
Boa ❤️
Happy with that.
He's got a lot of accomplishments and a lot of areas to improve. I like that SK mentioned how Silva spoke about our current players already. Definitely excited to be done with this manager seeking saga. COYW!
:yay: 049:gif :clap_hands:
Amazing to have Boa back as well.
Pleased with this appointment as we will hopefully see a more dynamic style with Strikers actually playing!
Let's give him 10 games before moaning :005:
Can we all give the bloke a chance?
I sincerely hope this is the turning point for Fulham FC after a dire season with Parker, under whose leadership I struggled to watch many games. Now looking forward to the start of the season with high hopes of attractive attacking football. 049:gif 049:gif
I am excited by this appointment. I think we will be good to watch and he has a decent track record in the Premiership as well. We have done well to get him.
Tough to be downbeat about this appointment as he'll certainly bring a more exciting brand of football to the club, and Boa back is a big bonus.
Let's get behind himand see what we can do this season, COYW
We all need to give him time beacause i think it will take time to go from parker ball to the football our new manager wants us to play
Where does this leave TK in all of this because as SK mentioned he was involved in Silva's appointment?
Really pleased about this appointment, He would have been my first pick, I like his style of play, the way he speaks in front of the camera, think he will fit in well, much better than Wilder. Glad we dint get Cooper, I don't think they would be able to attract the players we need to progress.
Time to get behind him and please give him some time, at least Jan!
Very pleased. And to have Boa back is icing on the cake.

Good riddance Parker, with all due respect this is another level, not only of attainment but of enjoyment in watching it and of connection with the fans through Boa Morte
Haven't been this enthusiastic about FFC for about three years I reckon

TK organised a ladders table and chair match the winner became manager his nickname is now Super Marco after beating both Cooper and Wilder
I'm far happier with this than I would have Cooper or Wilder. Silva still has name value, and was heavily sought after at one stage. I also think his time out of the game has probably curbed his willingness to move jobs quickly. If he can keep the team together and add a couple quality pieces we should comfortably win the league
Welcome Marco to the best club in English football.
We may not be the biggest but we are a great family club.
A special welcome back to Boa.
Wow I'm suddenly looking forward to the season starting again.

Welcome Mr Silva. Back on the front foot. Upside feels huge here.
Welcome Marco Silva and Luis Boa Morte. Good luck in your new roles. Here's to a very successful season. COYW. 049:gif 049:gif 049:gif
I like this appointment. A preferred choice to Cooper or Wilder. SK proving, once again, he's a Chairman/owner we can be mightily pleased to have. The coming season has the potential to be more exciting and entertaining now.
MARCO SILVA is bringing the same five assistants who worked with him at Everton to Fulham, TGG understands.
The Portuguese manager, who was with the Toffees from May 2018 to December 2019 and has not managed since, was named as Fulham boss this evening.
The inner circle of five assistants he is reuniting at Craven Cottage are:
Bruno Mendes (Head of Performance): Worked at Benfica for 17 years, setting up the famous Benfica Lab, before arriving at Everton in July 2018. Lasted just 17 months with the Toffees before he was sacked along with Silva.
Luis Boa Morte (assistant): Made 250 appearances for Fulham as a player. Worked alongside Silva from June to December 2019 at Everton. Has just gained his Uefa Pro Licence from the English FA.
Goncalo Pedro (first-team coach): Long-time lieutenant of Silva's. Worked with him at Estoril, Sporting Lisbon, Olympiakos, Hull, Watford and Everton.
Hugo Oliveira (goalkeeper coach): Ebullient and highly experienced. Worked for Portugal and Benfica before linking up with Silva at Hull, Watford and Everton.
Antonis Lemonakis (analyst): The only non-Portuguese member of Silva's inner circle and another Pro Licence coach. First worked with Silva at Olympiakos and has been with him ever since, at Hull, Watford and Everton.

Excellent appointment let's move on now
Welcome to the new management team at Fulham. Plenty of excitement and lets hope it goes well for us all.
Looks good and I just can't imagine Boa having anything to do with Parker Ball so am really looking forward to some direct attacking plat again.
Welcome Marco Silva together with your formidable support staff. Thank goodness it wasn´t Wilder or Cooper. I can now get excited about the new season. I think the players & us supporters will get a spring in our step with this appointment

Silva?
Just for once well done to the owner. Probably the best appointment he could have made. There are no certainties but this is a good choice and hopefully if supported with the appropriate squad this man can take us far. Boa is a bonus for sure!
note to my stalkers..... Please be aware this is praise to the owner, he has doone well IMO. I say what i see.
A bit gutted "Big Sam" wasn't chosen but time will tell if Marco "Sicario" Silva and Dead Snake can do the job. Wish him well.

I read that, but my question still is, where does that TK in the working process?
I thought I read that he was taking a back seat, under dad's instructions, and someone else was to be the DoF or the DoRecruitment. Any news that he has very little involvement in anything anymore?
Happy Parkers gone, happy Silva's arrived.
Time to get down to some hard work.

Interesting read on his "learning experience" at Everton. He has a decent track record with Hull City and Watford as well. Hopefully with more experience he will be better prepared for success with us.
So allegedly Shahid flew out to Portugal to interview Marco?
Very happy with this appointment.
Im very optimistic about this appointment . I hope we have great things ahead ! come on Fulham !!
Really happy.
Boa Morte has got to be my favourite player of all time. Watching him as a young boy I was blessed. 2000-2010 was the best era of our club by leaps and bounds. And he played his part in that.
Does anybody know if he has played many academy players or does he prefer to buy
Very happy and excited ..... can't wait for the new season to start
The more I've read about Silva, the more excited I am. His sides have played some great football and sounds like he was unlucky at Everton (the one real question mark on his CV) in the same way SJ was for us.
I feel like he'll bring a lot more tactical know how than Parker did. He seems to understand how to get the best out of teams going forward. Hopefully with retaining Stuart Gray we can also build on the defensive work from last season and remain solid at the back too.
The main black mark on his CV other than the end at Everton is a terrible record at defending set pieces and that he isn't exactly the most loyal (ask any Watford fan).

From what I've read, he often seems to lack a "Plan B". That's something that can be learned though.
The interesting thing about Silva is how he transformed Estoril in his first job - something that hasn't really been discussed in the British press.

So he took them up from 2nd tier as champions and then led them to 4th and 5th in the Portuguese league. That is pretty impressive. I think we'll take that lol Plus he started as a dof. Maybe the Khans are giving him free reign on signings
At last I'm looking forward to watching my club play some football again.Great to see everybody sounding
So positive.
I honestly don't know much about him, but am excited by the appointment from the little I do know.
I think we are definitely going to be right up there come the end of the season. Sounds like he is capable of doing very well for us.
Silva has rarely lived up to expectations. And that was with good squads on hand ....

8th was the same position as Big Sam, who fans were fed up with, had finished with Everton the season before.
I wish Silva well, though.
The club maybe took a gamble, not choosing Wilder as a safe pair of hands, with recent experience, in Wilder, but let's hope the decision will prove to be correct.
COYW
It's a fresh start and I hope it works out, but will it be the right decision, I am approaching this with a little caution, time will tell of course. Chris Wilder had the best qualifications and credentials, so another club will benefit from scooping him up no doubt.
Nevertheless, it's done and dusted and the die is cast
Silva is an interesting but also very strange choice if Shahid Khan wanted a manager who will be "committed to Fulham and its supporters". Silva's CV seems to suggest he is the exact opposite.
I'm sure he can get us promoted if he is given the right players but I will be very surprised if he is still here in two years time. But then again, I guess that could be said about ANY manager.
I will of course give him the benefit of the doubt and under the circumstances I don't think we could have done much better. I just don't expect much loyalty or long term commitment.
If Silva is here in 2023 (when his contract runs to) I'd be shocked.
I suppose that either means he has got us promoted and safe in the Prem and has had his head turned again. Or he's failed at promotion at this first hurdle (doubt he will remain in post if we don't go up this year). Is it a risk worth taking - possibly. Willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Would be interested to know what sort of stint he has to do to be considered a committed, long-term appointment.
In reality, if stays 2-3 years that's a good long stint for a manager these days and will mean things went very well.
I agree with others that given he's been a bit of a journeyman up to now, like Jokanovic and Hogdson, he's probably just more motivated to settle down for that sort of timeframe. He'll also probably have had to convince SK of that.
If he does leave before long, it's more likely IMO to be because we sacked him. He'll be expected to get us promoted this season, maybe given a 2nd season to attempt it at a push, and if not, he'll be sacked. Then if we go up he'll probably be sacked if we don't look like staying up.
Lets at least give the guy time to get started before jumping to assumptions that mean nothing. ? We will see soon enough. I for one am keen to see his style of play. I'm also interested to see what players go and what players come in. It's too early to start knocking the guy.
This is a much better outcome than I had expected and, regardless of future eventualities, Shahid Khan has really done the Club proud. Any appointment is a risk - sooner or later - but our Chairman has kept his cards close to his chest until the contract ink was dry and dusted, and he has, IMO, shown a lot of class under pressure in his actions since last season effectively ended in disaster with the defeat at home to Burnley.
I sincerely wish Marco Silva and his team all the very best and hope that they are, by this time next year, one of the most sought after coaching teams in English football for all the right reasons. I am optimistic that will be the case and that the team ethic will be so strong nobody will want to be or play anywhere else than Craven Cottage. Let the Good Times Roll.
Think a major plus is that he's already done homework on the squad and knows what personnel we've got seeing as he did a presentation back to SK on the squad. Hopefully he's got an idea of what players/positions he wants to strengthen and we get on with it sharpish. The fact he's a big fan of Mitro is a huge positive because if Mitro feels loved then hopefully he'll go and bang in another 26+ goals this season and get us back up

I agree, however Ranieri did the same with his homework and look how that turned out!
I am happy with this one though.
If mitro stays, I'm going to try and back him for 30+ goals
I'm pleased with the appointment. Understandably, the bigger names that some of us were hoping for (Benitez, Nuno, Howe) were or are holding out for Premier League jobs.
Although you could say that Wilder has a better record, his manner of leaving Sheffield United was not good. Plus I never felt his personality would be a good fit at Fulham. He seems to have a bitter side to him, which I don't like.
Silva seems to have really wanted the job, which is obviously important - and Boa Morte coming back is undoubtedly a bonus.
All this nonsense with Silva getting his eye turned is in the past... literally. If anything like that happens again, his managerial career is done. No one will hire him. He knows it, we know it. You just hope people learn from their past mistakes.
Additionally, boy do his teams play exciting, attack minded soccer. Mitro should be salivating at this opportunity.
Onwards and upwards!
Welcome Marco!
As a lusophile I'm really chuffed with these appointments. I liked the way Watford played under him and the Boa appointment is fantastic. I hope the Khan- bashers will just shut up for a while - unless they are motivated by other reasons

I feel the same about Wilder, brilliant tactician and coach but negative personality. I also don't like the way he tends to throw his players under the bus and never accepts any blame.
The other day's Cottage Talk interview by Russ with the journalist who covered Everton during Silva's time there, is underwhelming, if confusing, to say the least.
But we need to give the bloke a chance to see what he can do at Fulham.

I heard it too. At first I was disappointed but the more he spoke, the more it became clear he was a big supporter of Scott Parker so I wondered if the disappointment of SP leaving influenced his view.
I was a bit concerned until I heard Simon Jordan also slagging off Silva, then I knew Silva must be a good manager
Simon Jordan is like football's answer to Arthur Daley or Del Boy without the charm of either. Tries to impress being verbose and using needless long words which he gets wrong

What is Mitrovic anyway, a little puppy that needs stroking and treats to perform well? Just because he scored goals in past seasons does not guarantee future results. Just because the coach is a big 'fan' does not guarantee positive results. Let's wait and see how the new coach sets up his team and strategies. I will say this, if Mitrovic is the 'only' player FFC will be relying on to score goals, I don't see how this team can be considered for possible promotion. Teams will set up to defend our one threat and FFC fans will be disappointed. I've said before in other threads that one of my concerns moving forward is where the goals are gonna come from. Obviously I hope for the best and hope MItro and others can get this team back in the Prem. Time will tell, and FFC is no lock for promo.
