Liverpool in pole position ahead of Leeds and West Ham to sign Fulham star

Liverpool are said to have moved into pole position to sign Fulham youngster Fabio Carvalho, as per a recent report by TEAMtalk.

The young attacking midfielder has been attracting plenty of interest in his services of late, with the likes of Leeds United, West Ham, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur having made up the bulk of the domestic interest.

Meanwhile there is also a gaggle of teams that are tracking the 19-year-old from the continent, with Benfica, Porto, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon and Monaco all keeping tabs on his situation at Craven Cottage.

However it appears that the Reds have stolen a march on their rivals and are now confident of tying up a deal for the exciting forward come the turn of the new year.

Carvalho and his representatives have been locked in talks with Fulham for quite some time over a new contract, however it was recently reported by the same publication that they have rejected the club's final offer.

With just over six months left to run on his deal with the West London side, Fulham may well be forced to cash in come January in order to avoid losing Carvalho on a free in the summer of next year.

The Verdict

Time is certainly not on Fulham's side with this one and they will know that they are likely to be inundated with offers when the window opens.

Getting the best price possible for Carvalho has to be their priority as he has already indicated that he has no intention of staying put at Craven Cottage.

Fulham have lost young players for small fees in the past and they won't want to see a repeat of that in this instance.

Therefore they need to negotiate well in January when the top clubs come calling for the attacking midfielder.

Marco Silva wants Fulham to be less reliant on Aleksandar Mitrovic goals

Aleksandar Mitrovic's 19 goals is seven more than the Championship's next highest scorer, Blackburn's Ben Brereton Diaz

Fulham head coach Marco Silva wants the rest of his squad to be less reliant on the goals of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Cottagers thrashed 10-man Blackburn 7-0 on Wednesday to close the gap on Championship leaders Bournemouth.

Mitrovic took his tally to 19 in 16 league games this season as Harry Wilson, Rodrigo Muniz and Neeskens Kebano all scored twice in the rout.

"It's really important that we start to spread our goals from the other players," Silva told BBC Radio London.

Mitrovic has scored nine goals in Fulham's last six games, including all three in the 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and doubles against Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers.

Before Wednesday big win at Ewood Park the Serbian had been solely responsible for half of Fulham's Championship goals, with Wilson the next closest with three before his double at Blackburn.

"When you have a player like him that creates so many chances and we have a player with his capacity and his ability to score goals of course he's important and he'll keep being really important for this football club," former Everton boss Silva, who took over from Scott Parker in the summer, said of Mitrovic.

"But I'm demanding from the others as well. My wingers normally score goals, and my midfielders as well, and they know that.

"Kebano, Rodrigo, Wilson, they know what I demand from them to take the right decisions, to attack, to score goals, to arrive in the right spots as well and they are offensive midfielders as well.

"Even our central defenders, they know how much I'm demanding from them, that we should start to score more goals from set pieces."

The Cottagers are now within two points of leaders Bournemouth after they were beaten 2-1 at home by Preston North End, with a four-point gap between the Londoners and third-placed West Brom.

Fulham are hoping to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, having been relegated at the end of last season.

"The position in the table will always be a consequence of our performance. If we perform well, if you go to all the matches with the same ambitions, same aggressiveness, same intensity as well the results will be a consequence of our performance and the position in the table will be the same," added Silva.

"I want to be successful at the end of the season and to be successful we want to be top, and it's for that that we're working so far and we have to keep working.

"We've finished a third of the season, of course we are happy, but we have big room to keep improving, I know that."

Silva wants to spread the goals around

Perhaps it is a mark of Marco Silva's seemingly ceaseless pursuit of excellence that he spent part of his press conference following Fulham's fabulous flaying of Blackburn last night outlining why he has been disappointed that his centre backs have failed to get on the scoresheet this season.

Most of the column inches devoted to Fulham's rich recent vein of form have focused on the goalscoring exploits of Aleksandar Mitrovic. That's perfectly understandable given that the Serbian striker – virtually unplayable at this level and enjoying his football again having been frozen out by Scott Parker – has reached nineteen goals after just sixteen games. But, as Silva explained at Ewood Park last night, a key part of his tactical plan is to get all of his starting line-up finding the net.

That's why he was so pleased with the variety of goals the Whites scored in last night's Lancashire rout.

"It's really important that we start to spread our goals from the other players. When you have a player like him that creates so many chances and we have a player with his capacity and his ability to score goals of course he's important and he'll keep being really important for this football club.

But I'm demanding from the others as well. My wingers normally score goals, and my midfielders as well, and they know that. Kebano, Rodrigo, Wilson, they know what I demand from them to take the right decisions, to attack, to score goals, to arrive in the right spots as well and they are offensive midfielders as well. Even our central defenders, they know how much I'm demanding from them, that we should start to score more goals from set pieces."

Fulham's proficiency from set plays has been one of the real plus points in this campaign. Mitrovic's header from a fine Jean Michael Seri corner was their sixth from a set piece this season – the second best record in the division. Clearly, the next target is to see centre halves with the aerial ability of Tim Ream, Tosin Adarabioyo, Michael Hector and Alfie Mawson heading home.

'Potential to become a legend' – Many Fulham fans react to player's showing v Blackburn Rovers

'Potential to become a legend' – Many Fulham fans react to player's showing v Blackburn Rovers

The Whites ran riot in Lancashire yesterday evening as braces from Muniz, Neeskens Kebano, Aleksander Mitrovic, and Harry Wilson secured an astonishing away victory for Marco Silva's men.

Muniz came off the bench with just over 20 minutes left to play in the game and still managed to contribute heavily with two goals in the 81st and 91st minutes to put the cherry on top of a brilliant team performance.

Naturally it didn't take the Fulham faithful long to react to the Brazilian's impact, with many taking to social media to air their views on his performance.

Here, we take a look at some of the best responses from the supporters on Twitter as Muniz helped to contribute to what was an absolute thrashing at Ewood Park.

Fabulous Fulham

Well last night was satisfying, wasn't it? A ridiculous goal-scoring performance from Fulham has sent our goal difference into overdrive and, coupled with Bournemouth's first defeat of the season, means that the gap at the top is down to two points. The Marco Silva transformation of this Fulham side is breath-taking and I can't wait to see what happens next.

We have known for a while that this team has the attacking talent to blow teams away. In truth, this talent has existed for a number of seasons, but wasn't at all utilised under Scott Parker. Silva has most of the same ingredients, Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz aside, but it's what he has done with them that has made the difference. A number of our players are in the form of their lives. Mitro is obviously in that bracket with 19 – NINETEEN- goals after 16 games so far this season. That is simply outrageous. He also has five assists so has been involved in 24 goals for Fulham so far. That's more than 18 whole teams have scored in this league which shows you just how well he is playing this season. You get the impression that Mitrovic feels that he has a point to prove after his isolation last year so watch out for our game against Parker's Bournemouth in a months' time.

But there are other players who seem to have raised their game under Silva. Neeskens Kebano has transformed himself and looks dangerous every match. Tim Ream has been exceptional, as has Tosin aside from his horror tackle on Saturday. While this team is scoring goals for fun, we shouldn't forget that we also have the second best defensive record in the league with just 14 conceded. We haven't conceded a goal since QPR pinched one back at Craven Cottage on the 16th October. That's four clean sheets on the bounce for Marek Rodak, which leads me nicely to my next point. Silva, isn't afraid of making a change when he needs to. Paulo Gazzaniga had looked ropey so Silva made the change and brought Rodak back. We conceded 13 in the 11 games with Gazza, but have only conceded once in the five since Rodak has been brought back in.

It was also nice to see the goals spread about a bit last night. Scoring seven with Mitro only getting one must have been disappointing for the big fella! His assist for Harry Wilson's first goal last night was outstanding and shows once again that his all around play right now is sensational. Kebano chipped in with two very smart finishes, but the most popular goalscorer of the night was clearly our young Brazilian, Rodrigo Muniz. If you were there last night, you'll have seen just how thrilled the whole team was for him. Patting him on the head, hugging him, having a dance with him – it was lovely to see. He is clearly loved in the dressing room and can surely be the perfect understudy to our big Serbian. I noticed after his first goal that he ran to Silva for an embrace before the game was restarted which was also nice to see. And while Mitro never likes coming off the pitch, he came straight over to him after the final whistle with his own congratulations. This is a happy squad right now, riding on the wave of Marco Silva.

We obviously have to try and keep our heads on. We have seen that this team is still capable of a wobble, but we should also allow ourselves to enjoy what we are getting to witness right now. This is the best I have seen us play in years, and I'm loving every minute of it. Roll on Peterborough.

SHEFFIELD UNITED have lost so much over the last 14 months. Until now, however, identity, even when scraping the barrel, wasn't included.

Thirty-six league defeats, 29 of those in the top flight. Reputation and self-esteem in tatters at the end of last season. A huge advance from League One to ninth in the Premier League thrown away. Club owner Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was unprepared for, and out of his depth financially, to take advantage of what was a gift horse.

Instead, Chris Wilder, the man who drove the club from the foot of League one to ninth in the top flight, was rewarded by being limited to C list recruits. In some fans eyes it was his bad judgment. In truth he was fishing in a mediocre pool determined by wages at least £40,000-a-week less than what an average Premier League player expects to earn.

And so a miserable, even embarrassing relegation – the one widely expected but gloriously rebuffed by an enormous collective but ultimately unsustainable effort in the previous campaign – finally came to pass. Followed by an unexpectedly turbulent landing in the Championship.

New boss Slavisa Jokanovic has had a third of a season to impose his respected and proven ethos into a squad smarting from the humiliation of a nightmare all too raw. It isn't working.

Blades fans, locked out of the ground due to COVID-19, thought it was finally safe to come out from behind the couch. They have in their droves. Such is the thirst for football and loyalty to the club, despite all its faults, United boast average gates they don't deserve. 27,192 since doors opened for second tier football in August; 1,000 more than over the promotion-winning season of 2018-19.

Supporters are playing their part, demonstrating patience beyond reasonable expectation. That can't be expected to last. After all, United were widely tipped as promotion favourites following the arrival of Jokanovic and the squad is stronger than when top flight football was secured automatically three seasons ago.

LUKEWARM

But 16 matches in and it doesn't appear that way. Something dramatic must happen to change what has been at best a lukewarm return to the Championship. Seven defeats – four of them at Bramall Lane – four draws and only five wins.  Nineteen points dropped. A minus goal difference. Sixteenth in the table.

It's clear to see what Jokanovic is attempting. His approach is admirable. But it is also becoming increasingly apparent in the short term it is unlikely to work, as pleasing on the eye as it can be at times. Not at least until he is allowed to buy his own players and formulate a side that mirrors his image.

A largely inherited squad's strengths are anathema to the 53-year-old Serbian's ideological belief in the way football should be played. He's a purist who wants the beautiful game to be just that. We all want the best in life, reality, however, dictates the cut of the cloth.

There is no reason why what succeeded at Watford, and more relevantly at Fulham, in getting both to the Premier League, can't work at Bramall Lane. Jokanovic started, however, from a stronger base during his brief stay at Vicarage Road where he fell out with the ownership before enjoying the fruits of his labour.

At Craven Cottage he was able to staff the team to suit his free-flowing, attractive style. It helped, too, with the likes of a dependable striker and fellow Serb in Aleksandar Mitrovic, regularly turning chances into goals.

UNIMAGINABLE

The same man, curiously, that Prince Abdullah in his legal battle for control of the club, claimed he urged United to buy from Newcatle. Where the money was coming from to back that spurious claim – Mitrovic cost Fulham £22million in 2018, a figure then unimaginable at the Lane – only the Saudi knows. But safe to profer talk is cheap.

Clinical finishing, or lack of it, is costing United dear. Despite all the defensive frailties displayed this season, if United had a strike force fit for purpose, 35-year-old skipper Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick, 33, aside, they would be now sitting in a far better place.

It's not beyond reason survival in the Premier League would have been a good deal closer, too. Oil McBurnie, Lys Mousett, Oliver Burke and Rhian Brewster, given their job description is to score goals, should be embarrassed.

So what to do? Automatic promotion is already a pipe dream given how Bournemouth and Fulham have stormed away followed by West Brom. How is it, by the way, the latter two were relegated alongside the Blades and yet are clearly far better prepared for the task in hand despite United having had the benefit of an extra year of top flight revenue?

The Championship is lauded, rightly so, because of its competitiveness. The flip side being there are few outstanding teams. By and large you can get away with being adequate most of the time and still remain in with a shout of the play-offs. Which makes United's current failings even more concerning.

PRIDE

Crucially, however, they are only six points short of sixth place despite their league position. So unless Jokanovic is utterly convinced his tippy-tippy style will come good in weeks rather than months  – play it out from the back, dominate possession and wait patiently to thread the ball through the eye of a needle – it is the Serb who needs to swallow his pride and change tack. It's no good just merely winning the beauty contest when there is a bigger prize at stake.

Reverting to the tried and tested three-man defence, overlapping centre-backs, and all, might seem like a step back to Jokanovic who wants to build something more progressive and long lasting. He has to be applauded for that. But for the time being, what this group of players know backwards has more chance of succeeding.

It would also bring some excitement back to Bramall Lane. God knows it's been short of that. Taking risks instead of the academic approach with an exam at the end of every 90 minutes. Football in a library, to coin a phrase, is not the way it's done if you're a Unitedite.

Build momentum, use the January window to treat problems up front and get United into the play-offs is priority. Not style over substance which is what fans are being presented with at the moment.

HONOUR

The time for Jokanovic to bring his preferred dish to the table, it would now seem, is next summer, although it's highly questionable if that will be permitted. Remember, the manager was only a few weeks into the job when he felt it right to publicly remind his Saudi  boss to honour a promise on recruitment. A plea met with a  rush of loan signings just before the summer window closed.

Jokanovic is his own man with no deep affinity for Sheffield or United until he can call it his own. Expect fireworks if such a scenario comes to pass again.

For now, United look like a team without a roadmap. If they do have one, it's not being understood. Nobody, including the manager, knows what is going to turn up on match day. Just read some of the quotes to the left of this page (below if you're on a smart phone) for concrete evidence of the manager's continuing frustration and dismay.

Three goals up against an abysmal Barnsley, who nonetheless hit the woodwork and missed an open goal before scoring two. Leaving United clinging on for the points at Oakwell.

Domination, as you would expect, of Blackpool who were in League One last season, but nothing to show for it. The Tangerines' smash and grab goal at the Lane popped United's bubble. Their lack of fight for the remaining 14 minutes surprised both managers.

At the City Ground this week, Nottingham Forest sat back as if they were playing Manchester City. United dominated possession and had freedom but rarely troubled Forest's keeper. Striker Rhian Brewster was brought back into the fold and inexplicably played wide on the right.

ANNONYMOUS

United's record signing was anonymous as is usual apart from blasting an attempt into row Z and then fluffing a match-winning opportunity late in the match. United led thanks to the introduction of sub Sharp who did what no-one else seemed capable of and fed a ball through to Morgan Gibbs-White's who scored his fourth goal of the season. A lead that was, almost inevitably, short-lived in an otherwise insipid fixture.

Not many United fans would have been surprised with memories still lingering of a painful 2-1 home defeat to Millwall which encapsulated the season. United dominated possession but managed only three shots on target and finished with ten men after Gibbs-White was dismissed.

The Londoners took the lead with a sucker punch which caught out goalkeeper Robin Olsen. United needed a spot kick to level before half time. Millwall clinched three points two minutes into added time. Such was the concern how the team was shaping up, Jokanovic felt it necessary to make a tactical substitution in the 38th minute.

This is the diet the Serb, for all his sophistication, has been feeding fans since the start of the season with only occasional respite.

The Blades now head to Blackburn Rovers, just crushed 7-0 at Ewood Park by Fulham, before the second international break. It was Blackburn's worst ever home defeat. Mitrovic, incidentally, is now top scorer of all time in the Championship having scored his 57th goal and his 19th from 16 matches of this campaign.

Whatever happens in Lancashire at the weekend, Jokanovic should look in the mirror, stop talking religiously about "process" and use the two-week break  wisely. United need to get back in the game.

If this crop of players can't change their ways and if United are to have any chance of promotion, only one option remains. The manager must.

Leeds United set for transfer blow as Liverpool hope to close in on player agreement

Liverpool are hopeful of winning the race to sign Fabio Carvalho from Fulham, despite interest from Leeds United.

Leeds have reportedly been in the hunt to sign Carvalho, as he continues to stall on signing a new contract with Fulham.

However, it appears that Liverpool's interest is serious and they are hoping to strike an agreement for the teenager before long.

TEAMtalk are reporting that despite the interest of Leeds, West Ham and Southampton, it is Liverpool who are 'confident' of striking an agreement for Carvalho.

There's still strong interest from Tottenham, Southampton and clubs in Europe. However, Liverpool are backing themselves to get an agreement over the line.

Carvalho scored once in four Premier League appearances for Fulham last season under Scott Parker.

The playmaker has backed that up with three goals and one assist in seven appearances in the Championship. That included a run of three goals in three games back in August.

Carvalho's form has dipped in recent weeks and months, which has coincided with the prospect of him leaving Fulham in January or next summer.

However, this is a blow for Leeds all the same.

The teenager is a top talent and Marcelo Bielsa could have done wonderful things with his unpredictability – you've only got to look at the fact that Liverpool are interested to know how good he is.

Liverpool are getting their hands on a really good player if they get the deal done, as they expect.

Talking Points: Blackburn

More to Mitro

When you hit 19 goals in your first 16 games of the season, you're rightly labelled a natural goal scorer. But we've seen plenty of times under Marco Silva that there is much, much more to Aleksandar Mitrović's game, with Wednesday night an excellent example. He set up both of Harry Wilson's goals, the first one with a beautiful cross-field switch. "He gets his goal and then he's happy to square the ball for me to get my two as well, it shows that he's not just a goal scorer, he's a team player as well," Wilson told FFCtv post-match.

Biggest away win in 52 years

You would be forgiven for thinking that this was our grandest ever victory on the road – indeed it was Blackburn's heaviest ever home loss – but Fulham in fact went one better in September 1969. We headed to Halifax Town for a Division Three encounter and came away with a stunning 8-0 victory, with Fulham legend Steve Earle scoring five! We did the double over Halifax with three points at the Cottage later in the season, too, though that 2-1 triumph was slightly more routine.

King of South America

Ben Brereton Diaz pledging his allegiance to the Chilean national team has coincided with his fine form at club level, with the Rovers forward the closest challenger to Mitro in the scoring charts at the moment. One lashed shot aside, though, he didn't have a sniff of goal on Wednesday. Instead, it was another South American who had his shooting boots on, with Rodrigo Muniz clinically dispatching two of the three late chances that fell his way.

Sharing the goals and assists

In addition to Neeskens Kebano, Harry Wilson, and Rodrigo Muniz taking some of the goal scoring pressure off Aleksandar Mitrović's shoulders, we also saw a range of the lads claim an assist. Six different players teed up a teammate on Wednesday. In addition to Mitrović's double set-up for Wilson, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Jean Michaël Seri, Tom Cairney, Kebano and Antonee Robinson all got their creative juices flowing on a relentless night in front of goal.

43 and counting

Fulham have now found the back of the net 43 times in 16 Championship outings. It's an obscene number, especially when you consider that it's 16 more than any other team in the division. In fact, the only side that comes close across Europe's top leagues is Bayern Munich who have scored 38 goals so far.

Preview: Peterborough United vs. Fulham - prediction, team news, lineups

Rampant Fulham will be aiming to keep their superb Championship form going when they travel to Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon.

The Cottagers have won five in a row and occupy an automatic promotion spot, while Peterborough are four points clear of the relegation zone.

Match preview
After beating Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest and top-two rivals West Bromwich Albion, Fulham produced their best display yet against Blackburn Rovers.

Marco Silva's side hit 10 unanswered goals past Blackburn, who had Jan Paul van Hecke sent off at 2-0, to make it 20 goals across that five-match winning stretch.

Indeed, Fulham's 43 goals from 16 Championship matches this term is the most a team has managed in the second tier of English football since Liverpool (also 43) in 1961-62.

That form has not been enough to catch leaders Bournemouth, who retain a two-point lead at the summit. More importantly, Fulham are now four points clear of West Brom in third.

Peterborough face a daunting task this weekend, then, as they aim to halt their free-scoring opponents' momentum.

United rescued a late draw against playoff contenders Huddersfield Town on Tuesday thanks to Jonson Clarke-Harris's strike to cancel out Danny Ward's opener six minutes earlier.

That followed on from a 3-0 loss at Swansea City, but seven points from their last four games has lifted the Posh into 20th place, four points above the relegation zone.

Darren Ferguson's side's home form has a nice symmetry to it this season - win, draw, loss, win, draw, loss, win, draw - which points towards a defeat on Saturday.

The overall form book would certainly suggest as much, too, though Fulham have failed to get the better of the Posh in their only two previous league encounters, losing both.

Peterborough United Championship form:

    L    L    W    W    L    D

Fulham Championship form:

    L    W    W    W    W    W

Team News
Silva made just one change to Fulham's starting lineup last time out, with Michael Hector making a first league start of the season in place of Tosin Adarabioyo.

Centre-back Tosin remains suspended here, so Hector should get the nod once again alongside Tim Ream in the week, though Alfie Mawson is another option.

Rodrigo Muniz scored twice from the bench and Tom Cairney set one up as a substitute, but Silva will surely want to stick with something close to the same XI for this contest.

As for Peterborough, Ferguson may be tempted to make a couple of changes on the back of the home draw with Blackburn.

Clarke-Harris made an impact from the bench with the equalising goal and may come into the side in place of Jorge Grant.

Dan Butler is another who is pushing for inclusion for United, who have been without Joel Randall and Jack Marriott of late.

Peterborough United possible starting lineup:
Cornell; Thompson, Edwards, Beevers; Ward, Norburn, Taylor, Burrows; Clarke-Harris, Dembele, Szmodics

Fulham possible starting lineup:
Rodak; Odoi, Hector, Ream, Robinson; Seri, Reed; Wilson, Cordova-Reid, Kebano; Mitrovic

We say: Peterborough United 0-3 Fulham

Fulham have won their last five matches by a 20-1 aggregate scoreline and enter this game as strong favourites to pick up another victory.

Peterborough may have lost only one of their last four games, but we cannot see beyond a routine away victory at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Games for the Weekend 06/11
We're away to Peterborough for a 3 o'clock kickoff this weekend.
A 0-7 away win, and Mitro only scored 1 of them! with 2 goals each for Kebano, Wilson and Muniz. I'm so pleased for Muniz, that must have done his confidence a power of good and shows that he could be a worthy stand in if needed?
Rodak kept another clean sheet, that 20 goals for and 1 against in the last 4 games. After a nervous start Hector grew into the game and looks to be getting back to his form from a couple of seasons ago when he one of the defenders in the Championship.

With Bournemouth suffering their first loss its all getting very interesting at the top, still a very long way to go but I'm looking forward to every game, how different from last season!

Our record against Peterborough, as we've only played against them once in the recent past which we won, can't provide much historical perspective? That being said we're on a decent run of form WWWWW and Peterborough are doing OK with LWWLD.
We must guard against complacency, remember Coventry!, Peterborough will be looking to make a statement against a club in such free scoring form.

I can't think of a reason to change a winning squad, therefore my team would be.

Ex-Arsenal and Fulham midfielder aiming for play-offs with Chertsey Town

'With what we've got I'm confident we can be pushing for the play-offs' insists Ian Selley

Ambitious Ian Selley has aspirations to manage as high as he can but for now the ex-Arsenal and Woking midfielder admits taking over as manager of Step 4 Chertsey Town is, "a dream job".

The 47-year-old was born in the town, grew up there and was a pupil at Salesian School in Guildford Road prior to making his name as a player with The Gunners, Fulham and Wimbledon which preceded a spell with The Cards under Glenn Cockerill from 2003 to 2007.

Latterly he has headed up the Arsenal Soccer Schools Dubai as head coach, before returning to the UK to manage Sandhurst Town and have a stint coaching at Alwyns Lane.

Following the departure of FA Vase winning captain and player/coach, Kevin Maclaren, Selley was chairman Mark Turner's number one choice and he has the Isthmian League South Central play-offs as a goal this season.

And he is delighted to accept the challenge of building on what is already a firm foundation laid by Maclaren.

"I enjoyed my time there before and I had a lot of respect for Kev," he said. "I like Kev a lot and we are good friends. Going in there fourth in line as it were, the team talks came around, and most of the stuff had already been said by the time it got to me, which was okay at the time. I was happy doing the stuff on the pitch and taking the sessions and being involved that way. Obviously now I have got full control and it's exciting times.

"I'll be with Micky Bennett [assistant] and he's class, He's been at the club a long time. And the fact I'm not going in there blind helps. I know the players, I know the squad. We can potentially add one or two as we go but at the moment I'm happy with what we've got.

"It's just getting them to play the way I want them to play which might take a bit of time but we will do that bit by bit in each game."

Selley has been keeping an eye on the Curfews this term and has watched games, while he helped improve things on the pitch in his previous stint before leaving to take charge of Sandhurst Town.

"Most of that squad are still together from before," he said. "At Sandhurst I didn't know anyone there so was going in a bit blind and we thought we would need to get at least eight boys in but this time, it's different. There's a few little tweaks here and there to make, a bit of forward work we need to do to create some more chances. But ultimately it's not a big overhaul. It's just getting the players to adapt to how we want to go."

Selley's first game in charge, on Tuesday night (November 2), saw the team pull back from 2-0 down at Chipstead to draw 2-2 and remain unbeaten in seven league games including three wins.

Promotion is a realistic aim in his view and he added: "Looking at the league, looking at the teams Chertsey have played already and the games that I've been at, that's obviously what I've stipulated. I'm not going in to sit and tick along. I am going in to win games and everybody has got to be on board with that. There's no pressure on them but if that takes them into the play-offs that's fantastic and ultimately the aim.

"But I'm not looking at that at the moment. We are going to go game by game and improve what we've got and I'm pretty sure the lads will adapt. We are not making drastic changes in the early stages, and the points will hopefully start to mount up."

Kebano enjoying extended run

Neeskens Kebano is enjoying his longest run in the Fulham side since coming to England five years ago – and wants to continue his rich vein of form after starring in the sensational win at Blackburn Rovers.

The Congolese winger scored twice and laid on the first of Rodrigo Muniz's late double as Marco Silva's hit seven at Ewood Park last night. He told FFCTV after the final whistle of his delight at what proved to be a perfect evening on the road:

"Not a bad night at all! Going forward we were good, we created a lot of situations and put the ball in the net. We got the clean sheet, that's the cherry on the cake and we're happy.

"We spoke about Mitro scoring a lot and stuff but we need to show to other teams too that apart from Mitro, there's also other players who can also do the Mitro job! It's important for me. It is also good for the confidence. Me having two goals, Harry and Rodrigo getting two. It's very good for us. I think you could see when he scored he was like so happy."

Kebano knows that competition for places remains fierce at Fulham, but he is revelling in the faith shown in him by Silva and will be working hard to retain his spot.

"It is the longest run I have had so far. Every game that I play in now will be a game where I try to give my everything, my maximum and try to play again the next game."

Tim Ream posts cheeky message to Fulham teammate Aleksander Mitrovic after Blackburn thrashing

Fulham stormed to a sensational 7-0 win over Blackburn last night and four different players all managed to get their name on the scoresheet.

One of those was Aleksandar Mitrovic, the highest goalscorer at both his club and in the entire league. With 19 goals and five assists so far this year in just 16 games, he has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the Championship.

Last night though, the player did more assisting than he did goalscoring.

The 27-year-old did find the net once but he bagged more assists then goals last night, teeing up his teammates twice against Blackburn.

Now, the player's teammate Tim Ream has taken to Instagram to post about the Serbian and has made a cheeky comment about the striker only finding the net once during the fixture.

Ream jokily claimed it was 'about time' the striker let some other players score for the club – although the defender will certainly not one the attacker to seriously stop banging in the goals anytime soon.

Last night though, the goals were spread out with Neeskens Kebano notching two, Harry Wilson finding the back of the net twice and substitute Rodrigo Muniz also getting two.

If Mitrovic can keep on finding the back of the net on a regular basis and his teammates can also continue to keep chipping in with goals alongside him, then Fulham will be hard to stop in the Championship this season.

The Verdict

Aleksandar Mitrovic is easily one of the best, if not the best, players in the Championship. His goalscoring antics, workrate up front and ability to manhandle opposition defences has helped his side battle at the top end of the table so far this year.

The attacker shows no signs of slowing down either. If his teammates can all contribute effectively too as they did last night, then they are surefire favourites for a promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Defender reveals Fulham came chasing before Ligue 1 move

RC Strasbourg defender Frederic Guilbert has confirmed Fulham were interested in signing him in the Summer transfer window.

Guilbert is currently on loan at the French outfit from Aston Villa. Initially signing for the Racers in January, the right-back decided to return to them instead of joining the Championship club. Guilbert featured 25 times for Villa in his first season at the club but was quickly replaced by new signing Matty Cash.

Despite providing consistent performances, the 26-year-old fell down the pecking order at the Premier League side.

After his loan move ended, Villa were intent on sending him out on loan, once again.

Deciding to travel back to his native France, the Cottagers still hoped they could tempt him with a lucrative deal.

Whilst travelling to sign for Strasbourg, Fulham's final attempt at striking a deal for the Frenchman was rebuffed.

Speaking to Alsa Sports, Guilbert said: "(The transfer window) was long – very long! I had (offers from) Lille and Fulham as well.

"Just before signing in Alsace, Fulham presented an offer that was difficult to refuse.

"I made the choice to accept Strasbourg (but), on my way to Strasbourg, Fulham gave me a new offer, even bigger but, in my head, I was already at Strasbourg and I decided to maintain this course."

Despite, already having Dennis Odoi and Kenny Tete occupying the right-back spot, Fulham boss Marco Silva wanted to bolster his options, with Guilbert being his main target.

Guilbert has featured in eight league games so far this season for his club. The Villa loanee will be hoping his side can push for Europa League qualification.

The Racers are two points adrift of Rennes, who occupy the fifth-place spot.

Silva doesn't want reliance on Mitrovic
Fulham manager Marco Silva has urged his side to not just rely on goals from talisman Alexsander Mitrovic.

The Serbian was on the scoresheet yet again as Fulham hammered Blackburn 7-0 on Wednesday.

The in-form forward has scored 19 goals in 16 Championship outings.  Harry Wilson, Neeskens Kebano and substitute Rodrigo Muniz all scored braces on the night but the Fulham boss wants more.

Speaking to BBC Radio London, Silva said: "It's really important that we start to spread our goals from the other players.

"But I'm demanding from the others as well. My wingers normally score goals, and my midfielders as well, and they know that.

"Even our central defenders, they know how much I'm demanding from them, that we should start to score more goals from set pieces."

Fulham travel to Peterborough on Saturday. If results go their way, they could be sitting at the top of the Championship going into the international break.

Seri named in Ivory Coast squad

Fulham midfielder Jean Michael Seri has been named in the Ivory Coast squad for their decisive World Cup qualifiers against Mozambique and Cameron this month.

The 30 year-old, who has been a revelation since being reintegrated in Fulham's first team under new head coach Marco Silva, has 31 senior caps to his name for his country. The Ivory Coast has currently top of qualifying Group D with ten points but face critical games against Mozambique and second-placed Cameron, with the Indomitable Lions currently just one point behind. Those two sides will face off in a crunch clash in Yaoundé on November 16. The winners will progress to the play-off round for the right to reach Qatar.

Seri, who has made fifteen league appearances for Fulham this season and contributed four assists, could miss as many as six club fixtures should he – as expected – be included in the Ivory Coast's squad for the rescheduled Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to run from 9 January to 6 February in Cameroon.

'Unplayable at the moment': Some Fulham fans drool over 'brilliant' ace who 'Silva has unlocked'

How good were Fulham on Wednesday evening?

The Whites won 7-0 away at Blackburn Rovers sending a huge message to the rest of the Championship.

Aleksandar Mitrovic may have hogged the headlines in SW6 in recent weeks, but Wednesday was a night for Fulham's other attackers.

Indeed, Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz both grabbed braces, while Neeskens Kebano put in one of his best performances in a Fulham shirt, grabbing two goals and an assist.

As you can imagine, Fulham fans were quick to hail Kebano for his showing, and, to be honest, he deserves all of the credit in the world.

Kebano looks absolutely reborn this season. He's proving himself to be one of the trickiest players in the Championship, and looking back, it's baffling to imagine that Scott Parker loaned him out to Middlesbrough back in January.

Fulham supporters have had nothing but good things to say about Kebano and here's what the Craven Cottage faithful have been saying on social media...

Peterborough United don't fear Fulham, 'angry' Johnson Clarke-Harris could start and fitness update on Randall and Jones
Peterborough United will show no fear when they step onto the Weston Homes Stadium pitch to face the scoring power of Fulham FC on Saturday (November 6, 3pm).

The Cottagers delivered an eye-popping Championship result at Blackburn last night (November 4) by beating the team that started the midweek fixtures in seventh place 7-0 away from home.

Second-placed Fulham have scored a remarkable 43 goals in 16 fixtures - the most in the division by 16 - and now tackle a Posh team which has conceded the most goals in the Championship this season (31).

But Posh boss Darren Ferguson is backing his side to give Fulham a tough game. He is considering giving an 'angry' Jonson Clarke-Harris his first start since the creditable 0-0 draw with table-toppers Bournemouth on September 29. Clarke-Harris came off the bench to claim a late equaliser in a 1-1 home draw with Huddersfield on Tuesday night.

"I fully expect us to give Fulham a game," Ferguson said. "We are not going to step on to our own pitch just to make the numbers up.

"It's my job to get my players ready to stop them and then to try and win the game. We will have to deliver a great performance. We will need to be bang on tactically on and off the ball, but we enjoy playing at home and we are good at home.

"We've already played the teams first, third and fifth in the table at home and we did well in all of them.

"And what greater motivation can you have than to try and beat a side that won their last match 7-0?

"It's a brillaint game for us. We worked hard to get promoted so we can play against these top clubs and top players. It should be a packed stadium with a great atmosphere and I know our fans will be as good as they were at the QPR match.

"I watched Fulham last night and as the 5th, 6th, and 7th goal went in I thought they won't be lacking in confidence! They are a very good side regardless of the Blackburn result.

"They play with a real identity and style. They have clear patterns of play and they have quality at the top end of the field which is why they score so many.

"But I will pick a team I think can win the game and with Jonson Clarke-Harris showing good form the other night I have good attacking options.

"We saw a very angry Jonno against Huddersfield. If that was because he felt he had a point to prove I don't know, but I don't mind at all."

Posh will be without key defender Nathan Thompson because of suspension with Frankie Kent favourite to replace him. Kent has mised the last five Posh matches.

Injured forwards Joel Randall and Ricky-Jade Jones could be back for the next Championship fixture at Stoke on November 20.

Robinson earns USA call-up

Fulham full back Antonee Robinson has been named in the United States' squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Mexico and Jamaica.

Robinson, who has kept his place in Marco Silva's side after replacing the injured Joe Bryan, will be looking to nail down the international left back spot after scoring his first goal for his country in the 4-1 win over Honduras in September. Head coach Gregg Berhalter has omitted Fulham captain Tim Ream from his 25-man squad.

The States are currently second in the qualifying group – three points behind Mexico – and face their fierce rivals in Ohio on 13 November before travelling to Kingston to take on Jamaica on 16 November.

Rodrigo Muniz sends message to Fulham fans as he reflects on his side's latest triumph

Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz has taken to Instagram to send a message to the club's supporters who travelled to Ewood Park to watch their side demolish Blackburn Rovers.

The Cottagers sent out a real signal of intent to the rest of the Championship by sealing a 7-0 victory over Tony Mowbray's side yesterday.

Introduced as a substitute in this particular clash, Muniz managed to find the back of the net on two occasions as he produced a fantastic cameo display for his side.

Fulham opened the scoring in the sixth minute of the clash as Neeskens Kebano fired past Blackburn goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

Aleksandar Mitrovic then doubled the Cottagers' advantage before Jan Paul van Hecke was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Harry Wilson.

Following the break, Wilson scored a quick-fire brace for Fulham before Kebano added a fifth in the 79th minute.

Muniz then netted his own brace in the closing stages of the clash.

As a result of this triumph, Fulham managed to close the gap between them and league leaders AFC Bournemouth to two points.

Reflecting on his side's latest display on Instagram, Muniz has admitted that he was very happy to get on the score-sheet whilst he also admitted that it was great to see the club's fans in Lancashire.

The forward posted: "Very happy with the support of my teammates, and very happy to score 2 goals.

"It was great to see the fans tonight [yesterday]!"

The Verdict

Whilst it would be naive to suggest that Muniz's latest display for Fulham will allow him to earn a place in the club's starting eleven this weekend for their clash with Peterborough United, there is no reason why he cannot potentially be used as an alternative to Mitrovic in the coming months.

With plenty of football set to be played over the Christmas period, Cottagers manager Marco Silva may need to rotate his side in order to prevent the risk of some of his players suffering from burn-out.

Keeping this in mind, it wouldn't be at all surprising if Muniz is given more opportunities to showcase his talent in the Championship after taking his overall goal-tally for the 2021/22 campaign to three in yesterday's clash.

By delivering the goods on a consistent basis when he is called upon, Muniz could help his side achieve an immediate return to the Premier League next year.

Sources: Norwich City enquire about Fulham coach Luis Boa Morte as pressure builds on Farke
Norwich City have enquired about Fulham coach Luis Boa Morte, a source has exclusively revealed to The72.

Boa Morte, 44, joined Fulham as First Team Coach in the summer.

He arrived with Portuguese compatriot Marco Silva, returning to the club in which he played over 200 times for between 2000 and 2007.

Now though, a source has exclusively revealed to The72 that Norwich City have made an enquiry to Fulham regarding the length of Boa Morte's current Fulham contract, with Canaries boss Daniel Farke under fire.

Norwich City returned to the Premier League after winning the Championship title last season. But once again, the Canaries are struggling to keep pace in the Premier League with Farke's side sitting last place after claiming just two points from their opening 10 games.

Also, Boa Morte has recently been linked with the vacant Barnsley position following Markus Schopp's exit last month.

It comes after Fulham have enjoyed a fine start to the Championship season – they currently sit in 2nd-place of the table following last night's 7-0 demolition of Blackburn Rovers.

The Whites have been playing some fine football under Silva and Boa Morte but now the pair could be broken up as Norwich City consider Farke's future.

Boa Morte has previously spent time as a coach at Sporting CP, Everton and Maccabi Haifa, and has also worked as a scout for Arsenal.

His only managerial position came with Portuguese outfit Sintrense in 2017.

Fabio Carvalho is a free transfer opportunity for Liverpool

Fabio Carvalho could be an ideal free transfer opportunity for Liverpool. The 19-year-old appears set to leave Fulham next year.

As per the Athletic, Fabio Carvalho turned down a contract offer with Fulham this week. His current deal expires in June 2022, making his exit feel a little inevitable.

Understandably, Fulham are disappointed. Carvalho has looked like a potential star in his limited minutes this season. At the very least, he'd have been a good player for them – but his decision could also cost them millions.

The 19-year-old started this season on fire, scoring three goals and an assist before the final week of August. Unfortunately, injuries kept Carvalho out of the game for two months.

Bobby Decordova-Reid: Fulham's consistent centurion

Amongst the glut of goals at Ewood Park and Rodrigo Muniz's Samba dancing on the very spot where Sean Davis gyrated after his dramatic Blackburn winner twenty years ago, a notable Fulham landmark might have not got the recognition it deserved. Wednesday night's romp in Lancashire was Bobby Decordova-Reid's hundredth appearance in the black and white and the hard-working midfielder marked it with a brilliant assist for Neeskens Kebano that set Marco Silva's on their way to a fifth win in a row.

Decordova-Reid's best position may still be the subject of a fierce debate. He starred as a forward for Lee Johnson's Bristol City in a breakout season that saw him score nineteen goals in the Championship, despite being reluctant to line up as a number nine initially. He has filled in a whole host of positions for Fulham, used on either flank by Scott Parker in the Championship, behind the striker, and even as an auxiliary forward at times as the Whites went up via the play-offs.

Decordova-Reid's versatility was on full display during an ultimately frustration spell in the top flight last term – deployed as a marauding wing back once Parker switched to a back three in a bid to prevent a porous defence from being picked apart too often. There were no complaints from the model professional: he was happy to serve the team however his gaffer felt best, but Decordova-Reid still managed to deliver in the final third – scoring seven goals and adding three assists in a year when his consistency, energy and unbelievable fitness levels made him one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Decordova-Reid's endeavour and desire have seen him become a pivotal player under Silva since the summer as well. Every manager loves a player upon whom they can rely – and it is Decordova-Reid's work rate that adds another option to Fulham's front line. He leads a relentless pressing game from the front, one of the reasons he has been preferred to Tom Cairney and the fit-again Fabio Carvalho as the number ten in recent weeks, and has the directness and guile to unlock stubborn defences in the blink of an eye. The Jamaican international already has five assists to his name this season – as well as goals against Stoke City and QPR.

His willingness to fit in everywhere has been noticeable under Silva as well. Most comfortable on either wing (three appearances), he has found the number ten berth his most regular starting position (eleven appearances), but he has also lined up on the left and right side of midfield and filled in as an emergency full back after Kenny Tete succumbed to injury. He has thrived in advanced role in a more adventurous side, linking the play together impressively under Silva, with his movement posing serious problems for Championship defences. Decordova-Reid's ability to drift into pockets of space in the last third presents potential markers with the sort of dilemma they dread, whilst also creating room for his fellow attackers.

A seasoned Championship performer, the likeable forward is a quiet cult hero at Craven Cottage. His commitment to the cause can never be questioned and his ability to come with a crucial goal has proved priceless in the past. Think of the way he scored one of the goals of the season against Huddersfield, carrying the ball infield from the right flank before finishing magnificently, or the thunderbolt that shocked the league leaders Liverpool last December. His fifteen goals and twelve assists in Fulham colours underline his value that might be underappreciated by the casual viewer or pundit, but never by his team-mates.

Decordova-Reid is a footballer's footballer: he'll never shirk a challenge, pass up responsibility or go missing in a crisis. His ability to create a yard of space in a tight area is invaluable, those tricky feet can take him away from a couple of defenders in an instant – as Blackburn were the latest to find out – and he's certainly got an eye for goal. His first hundred whole-hearted performances have firmly established him as a Fulham favourite; and here's to another century.

Transfer News: Real Madrid line up Fabio Carvalho move

Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to make their move for 19-year-old Fulham whizkid Fabio Carvalho on a free transfer next summer.

According to a report by reputed Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Real Madrid are ready to make their move for Fabio Carvalho over a Bosman move in next summer's transfer window. The 19-year-old Fulham whizkid would be open to joining the Spanish giants on a free transfer.

Fabio Carvalho is widely regarded as one of the best young players plying their trade in England. A part of Fulham since 2014, the teenage prodigy progressed through the ranks at the London club before making his first-team debut last season. However, at the onset of the ongoing campaign, he has quickly established himself as a key player for the Cottagers.

In seven appearances in the Championship, the 19-year-old has a tally of three goals and an assist to show for his efforts. However, Fulham are in a precarious position over the player's long-term future, which has alerted many top clubs across Europe. One of his prospective suitors are Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have been renowned for scouring worldwide, searching for the most promising young players in the game. Such an outlook helps them facilitate smooth transitioning from one generation to another, with president Florentino Perez, a major advocate of the thinking process.

As a result, Real Madrid also have players in the squad to take over from ageing stalwarts, with the likes of Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Vinicius Jr. among the youngsters who are already a key part of the first-team setup. To that end, Carvalho has emerged as a target to bolster the attacking unit and be a long-term solution in the final third.

The interest in the 19-year-old whizkid makes sense considering Gareth Bale is likely to depart the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent next summer while Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio have been struggling to make an impression lately. So, even though Kylian Mbappe is the priority, there is a feeling that signing another attacker would benefit Real Madrid, who are now reading their move for Carvalho.

The Merengues have recently been handed a major boost in his pursuit, as reports have claimed that the youngster is ready to run down his deal with Fulham to embark on a new adventure. And as per Ekrem Konur, Carvalho would be open to joining Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer. So, it remains to be seen if a move sees the light of the day if Real Madrid end up making their move for him.

Fulham transfer news: Fresh verdict emerges on star who may leave Craven Cottage

Journalist Tom Barclay reckons that highly-rated youngster Fabio Carvalho could leave Fulham in January.

The 19-year-old, who only made his senior debut for the Cottagers last September, is out of contract at the end of the season and has rejected a new deal, a story broke by Barclay himself.

What's the latest news with Carvalho?

The teenager has been a sensation this term , but his future already looks to be away from West London despite playing just 13 times for the first-team.

Carvalho burst on the scene by scoring at Southampton on his full Premier League debut last April, which would allow him to enjoy a run in the side after Fulham's relegation was confirmed.

The attacker has taken his game up a level in the Championship, though. Carvalho scored in three consecutive games in August in what proved a blistering start to the season before a toe problem saw him miss more than two months of action.

He made his comeback from the bench in Fulham's recent victory over West Brom and played the final 17 minutes at Blackburn in midweek.

But with Fulham unlikely to make an increased contract offer following his recent rejection, Barclay reckons that Carvalho could leave as early as January, with Marco Silva's side reluctant to let him leave on a free next summer.

What did Barclay say about Carvalho's situation?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "From what I'm told from a Fulham point of view, I would be expecting Carvalho to be leaving maybe even in January, because he's out of contract in the summer."

Can Fulham replace Carvalho?

The thought of not having Carvalho in their side when they scored 13 goals in their opening five matches, whilst collecting 13 points in the process was probably a daunting thought for Fulham fans.

However, since the youngster has been injured and out the team, Silva's men have arguably played better, with Neeskens Kebano coming into the side to allow Bobby Decordova-Reid to move into Carvalho's role and play centrally.

Should he depart either in January or next summer, it'll be the latest blow in a long line of academy graduates to leave – Ryan Sessegnon, Patrick Roberts and Harvey Elliott, the obvious examples – but Fulham have already shown that there's life after Carvalho in recent games.
