It is certainly an intriguing development.

Fulham's valuation of Jorge Cuenca appears to have brought Benfica's interest to a halt. This comes despite suggestions earlier this week that the Portuguese club were moving closer to a deal.

Reports from Portugal had indicated Benfica viewed the defender as a priority target. They also stated that only a small gap remained between the clubs' respective valuations.

A Bola now presents a very different picture. They claim the move is unlikely to happen and that Benfica have already started focusing on alternative options.

The latest report states that while Cuenca's profile appealed to incoming Benfica manager Marco Silva, the financial reality of any deal has proved a major obstacle.

Fulham valuation changes the picture
According to A Bola, the London club are said to value Cuenca at around €20m (£17m). This is a figure Benfica currently consider too high. As a result, the Portuguese side are not expected to pursue the transfer further.

That is a significant shift from reports earlier this week which suggested a deal could be completed for a fee slightly above €10m (£8.5m).

Benfica's plan is to sign two centre-backs this summer following Nicolás Otamendi's departure to River Plate at the end of his contract.

The Portuguese side want one experienced defender capable of becoming the leader of the back line and another younger option with room for development alongside Tomás Araújo and António Silva.

Cuenca had been viewed as a candidate for the first role.

Benfica look elsewhere
The newspaper explains Silva appreciated the Spaniard's qualities after working with him at Fulham over the last two seasons. His left-footed profile and ability to build from the back were seen as attractive attributes for Benfica's defensive rebuild.

However, that admiration has not translated into concrete negotiations. A Bola report Benfica have not even opened talks with Fulham because of the financial demands involved. Brighton's Olivier Boscagli is reportedly another name on their shortlist.

In the end, the latest information suggests the gap between the clubs is far wider than initially believed.

Fulham are reportedly keen to sign Jonah Kusi-Asare on a permanent basis from Bayern Munich.

Despite making just 10 appearances for Fulham's senior side during his 2025/26 loan spell from Bayern Munich, the Premier League club reportedly want to sign 18-year-old Jonah Kusi-Asare on a permanent basis.

According to Sky Germany, Fulham are preparing an offer for the Swedish striker.

However, Fulham are not willing to activate the €12 million purchase option included in the loan deal and are instead looking to negotiate a lower fee.

Fulham reportedly paid a €4 million loan fee to bring the young forward to England last summer.

Kusi-Asare, who joined Bayern from AIK for a reported €3.5 million in February 2024, remains under contract with the German champions until 2027.

In September 2025, the Premier League side signed the striker on loan with an option to buy.

At that time, Sport Witness relayed news that Fulham paid a €4m loan fee and the Bavarian club secured a buyback option.

Marco Silva didn't utilise the 18-year-old regularly. He played 122 minutes from 10 matches of which 49 minutes were from seven Premier League games. The Sweden U21 international has made only two appearances for Fulham since the end of January.

Earlier in the season, the German media were critical of his decision to join the London club and suggested he should leave.

Fulham want to keep striker
Marco Silva has stepped down from his role and Fulham are yet to appoint his successor. However, it appears a club-level decision has been made to keep Jonah Kusi-Asare.

That's according to Sky Deutschland, who state the English club have decided to buy the frontman, but they won't be exercising the purchase clause.

Instead, Fulham are preparing to make an offer to Bayern Munich and the fee will be less than the buyout option. Sky make no mention of the clause or the fee Fulham are looking to propose.

Earlier claims from the UK stated the option to buy was set at €12m. If that's the case, it's no surprise that Fulham are seeking a discount.

Why Fulham have advantage
Jonah Kusi-Asare, Raúl Jiménez and Rodrigo Muniz were the three strikers at Fulham this season.

Muniz finished with a goal and an assist from 25 matches while the Mexico international left as a free agent.

Fulham need to strengthen their attack and are starting by making fresh efforts to retain the Swede. Kusi-Asare's contract at Bayern Munich lasts until 2027 and he's now valued at €3m by Transfermarkt.

Vincent Kompany's side have to sell this summer to avoid losing him for free next year. Fulham can take advantage of this to try and sign the Swede for a bargain price.

Internationals: Iwobi earns 100th Nigeria cap
Alex Iwobi marked a major milestone on Wednesday, earning his 100th cap for Nigeria in the Super Eagles' 2-1 friendly defeat to Portugal.

Our number 17 played until the closing stages of the match, receiving applause from supporters inside the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa when he was substituted late on.

Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze also featured as Portugal secured a narrow victory through Pedro Neto and Francisco Conceição's goals – although Akor Adams had briefly levelled the score for the Super Eagles.

After playing for England at youth level, Iwobi comitted to Nigeria in 2015 and made his senior debut at just 19 years old.

Since then, he's has become one of the Super Eagles' most influential players, representing his birth country at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

He helped Nigeria claim bronze medals in 2019 and 2025, while also finishing runner-up at the delayed 2021 AFCON.

The forward told the Nigeria Football Federation: "I am proud to be where I am today – proud to wear the green and white. I have no regrets choosing Nigeria.

All the reported ins and outs from another week for manager-less Fulham.

The Marco Silva saga is now firmly behind us - and Fulham need to look to the future for a replacement as well as prepare for what will be a summer of change in SW6.

Tony Khan has had a busy week. He caught a lot of flack on the weekend following an AEW livestream on X, and followed it up with a fascinating chat with our own Jack Kelly on the same platform. During that interview Khan told us not to believe everything we read. But as we all know, there's no smoke without fire. So, what's the latest in the Fulham camp?

Incomings
Unsurprisingly, all of the chatter this week is around who will replace Marco Silva, with Fulham seemingly slow to react to his departure.

Bookies favourite Kieran McKenna won't be taking over at Fulham, according to Sky Sports, despite announcing he will be leaving Ipswich Town, the Northern Irishman has said he wants to take some time away from management.

It looks like Alvaro Arbeloa is a leading candidate now, so says David Ornstein of the Athletic. It's fair to say the former Liverpool right-back endured a torrid time at the Bernabeu, and while I can't say I know too much about his management style, just because it didn't work out at Real Madrid doesn't mean it wouldn't at Fulham.

Gary Jacobs from the Times has reported that the Whites approached former Liverpool manager Arne Slot, but were rejected by the Dutch manager. Thomas Frank was the second favourite according to bookies at 3/1, but he's ruled himself out of both the Fulham and Crystal Palace jobs, according to Sky Sports.

Following the McKenna and Arbeloa bombas, Ben Jacobs has claimed that Fulham are assessing several options including Frank Lampard, Ruben Amorim, former Fulham coach Hugo Oliveira and Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira. Another name not mentioned (but I think is worth talking about) is Pochettino. During Tony Khan's interview with JK earlier this week, our Director of Football couldn't mask his subtle smirk when asked about the Argentine. Make of that what you will...

On the playing front (traditionally what this weekly article is meant to be about!), sources in Africa are reporting that Fulham and Nottingham Forest hold an interest in Ghanaian (and former Fulham) defender Jerome Opoku.

Outgoings
The biggest outgoing news this week comes in the form of contract renewals, with Raul Jimenez's contract expiring at the end of June and the Mexican's departure from the club being confirmed. He's since returned to Wolves and I think it's safe to say we all wish him the best. His exit was to be expected and leaves Fulham even shorter in the forward department.

The post on the official website also reports that an offer is on the table for Harry Wilson. But he has offers from other clubs, according to reports in Portugal, with Benfica trying to convince the Welshman to join Marco Silva in Lisbon.

Another player offered a new deal is youngster Sam Amissah who after poor treatment from Marco this season may be looking for a move away and according to reports in North London, Arsenal may look to snap up the full-back on a free.

Benfica's raid of Fulham doesn't stop with Harry, as it seems Jorge Cuenca may be following suit and joining Silva at the world's largest club by membership for a fee of €15m, according to reports in Portugal. These rumours were shut down by Tony Khan when asked by JK earlier this week who claimed "we have not heard anything from Benfica."

It's going to be a big transition for Fulham this summer and it's been a (as expected) slow start with no real news about a new manager and more names seemingly heading for the exit door.

Ruben Amorim was a third name on the list. But he has no intention of returning to a team in England he considers as having objectives which are 'inferior' to Manchester United.

So, the options for Fulham at this moment in time at Huge Oliveira and Abel Ferreira. The latter, though, may be hard to get as he has regularly rejected advances to leave Palmeiras.

Already worked at Fulham
Oliveira is the more likely option. He led Famalicão to their highest ever finish and narrowly missed out on Europe thanks to Torreense's win in the cup this seaosn.

He's already worked at Fulham under Silva, as his assistant too. He was also with him at Hull City, Watford and Everton. That means he knows the Premier League and England well, so should have no issue settling in at Craven Cottage again.

Fulham, for their part, are aiming to secure an appointment next week. There is no indication of whether they've made a move as yet. Frank Lampard, Scott Parker, Ange Postecoglou, Thomas Frank and Kjetil Knutsen are all names being linked with the role as well.

But it is Hugo Oliveira who, currently, seems to be foremost in their thinking. His previous experience at the club could give him an advantage over the rest.

As Sky Sports News reported in March, Newcastle United's Lewis Hall is a player United continue to monitor and could look to act on if the opportunity arises.

Hall missed out on Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad and with United needing to future-proof their left-back position with Shaw out of contract next summer, he could be a potential option. Newcastle however, would be expected to demand a significant fee for a player they signed for £28m from Chelsea two years ago.

Fulham's Antonee Robinson is another option for United that has emerged as a potential target at left-back.

The USA international is expected to attract interest once again this summer but it remains to be seen with a new head coach arriving at Craven Cottage whether Robinson is likely to leave the club.

Young left-back Harry Amass could also play a role if he impresses in pre-season. Amass had a strong first-half of the season for Sheffield Wednesday before his season was cut short after picking up an injury at Norwich in January.

He is expected to be with Manchester United's first-team during pre-season having fully recovered and Sky Sports News understands that all options over the 19-year-old's future are on the table.

Oliveira already knows Fulham's recruitment model and culture, and he might be able to settle in quickly at the London club. He could be a better fit for the West London club compared to Ferreira. Given the fact that he worked with Silva for a long time, he possesses the same tactical discipline and positional structure as the former Fulham manager.

There is no doubt that both managers would be exciting acquisitions for the London club, and it remains to be seen who they end up with. However, they have also shown interest in other managers, including Ruben Amorim.

Arbeloa prefers a high-pressing team and likes to win the ball back immediately after losing it. At a club like Fulham, he will need to be more reserved in his approach and ensure that the team is organised and tactically well-drilled defensively to nullify stronger opposition.

Fulham should look at other options, and they have shown interest in Hugo Oliveira and Abel Ferreira if they want to do well next season. They should look to bring in someone with experience in managing Premier League clubs. It remains to be seen who they end up with.

It may be particularly important for Leeds to sign a new centre-back this summer, off the back of conceding 56 Premier League goals, with only Tottenham Hotspur shipping more and avoiding relegation.

Troilo is yet to prove himself over an extended period of time, but he could end up being a bargain at just £17m.
