A young manager in England for the first time needs some experienced heads to lean on; TC has been here over a decade and can support Arbeloa getting used to the club etc. and can still contribute to the team. If we are to target younger players this summer we will also need some older players to mentor and provide leadership so at least one more year of TC to support the changing of the guard is fairly important I would say, otherwise we could do a Southampton where they changed manager, brought in loads of younger players, looked like the lacked leadership and got relegated

With a new manager arriving the club captain may have a substantial role to play off the field.

I'm all for reducing the squad age and easing out older players but it has to be based on performance/ merit. In TC's case I think he clearly did enough in his sub appearances last season to show that he still has plenty to offer in that role.

As to Blingo's assessment, I respectfully disagree. Way, way better than Championship standard, a solidly Prem quality player.

It's your right to disagree Mr Twig. However, take the odd spectacular goal away and he's slow and very one footed. I'd love to be able to agree with you, but it's just an old fools opinion. Lets see what next season brings.

He is certainly slow in terms of athletic speed. However his eye for a pass injects a different kind of pace into our forward movement. He gets us up the pitch through his vision and passing ability. But that's just my opinion.

A bit miffed at some of the commentary here.  What, is the new manager an invalid?  And needs help navigating through little ol' FFC?  New coach had some pretty big names and egos to deal with at RM.  He's not a baby, doesn't need a crutch to make his way and put his stamp on this team.  JMHO
