Late transfers to Leeds United and Fulham save sports director his job
Leeds United and Fulham turned to Eintracht Frankfurt to improve their squads towards the end of the summer window.

The Whites signed Jean-Mattéo Bahoya while the London club took Hugo Larsson from the Bundesliga side.

These two players moved to the Premier League via loan on deadline day and both Leeds United and Fulham have an obligation to make the deals permanent.

Why Leeds United and Fulham deals key
Friday's edition of Bild reports the impact of Jean-Mattéo Bahoya and Hugo Larsson's late transfer to Leeds United and Fulham.

These two operations have allowed Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche to retain his job for the time being.

The German club had a crisis meeting on Wednesday, a day after the deadline. The 21-year-old forward and Larsson's exits have helped the director convince the club's supervisory board during the meeting.

Krösche has achieved the target set by his superiors. This, in return, helps him to save his job. His contract is until 2028, but Bild are not expecting him to fulfil it.

€50m from Leeds United and Fulham
Jean-Mattéo Bahoya and the 22-year-old midfielder will join Leeds United and Fulham permanently next summer.

Online, Bild adds the duo's sales to the two English clubs will see the Bundesliga side raise around €50m. There's no mention of the purchase obligation for Leeds United and Fulham.

Markus Krösche's relationship, especially with Eintracht Frankfurt president Mathias Beck, strained when he refused to inform him about AC Milan's approach in June.

The Serie A side were willing to offer him €40m for four years before the director rejected them. However, his ties with Beck strained.

The late deals with the Premier League sides have helped the two make peace for now.

After the meeting this week, Beck said: "We discussed the sporting and financial situation, as well as the decisions made during the last transfer window, very thoroughly and constructively in the supervisory board. There was agreement that we want to continue tackling the tasks ahead with great unity. Our focus in recent weeks has been on creating the best possible conditions for a successful season. The sporting management has succeeded in this."

Team News: Will new boys feature versus Palace?
In his pre-match press conference, Álvaro Arbeloa was asked about the potential involvement of his three deadline day signings this weekend.

Manuel Ángel, Hugo Larsson and David Affengruber were all added to the ranks on Tuesday, and when asked if we could see them against Crystal Palace, our Head Coach said: "I think it's a little bit early for these three players.

"David has been playing with Elche in the first games in La Liga, but Hugo, for example, he played his last game, I think, on the 12th of August. He wasn't involved in any other games. For Manuel Ángel, the same. He didn't play a game during the pre-season.

"So, I think these three players need a little bit of time. They just arrived, I think they will be in the squad tomorrow, but be patient with these three players. They need to understand what we want from them."

When pushed as to whether that means they will be named as substitutes, Arbeloa replied: "You will see tomorrow, but I said that I think they are not ready to play from the start.

"It's normal, they just arrived. Hugo and Mami [Manuel Ángel] even didn't play so much during the summer.

"David, of course, he has played some games with Elche, so physically he's more ready, but he needs to understand and to work and to know the players and to know our ideas.

"Now we have the [Friday] training session, we will see how they are, but I think they will be in the squad tomorrow."

Fulham boss Alvaro Arbeloa has confirmed Tom Cairney is the only player unavailable for Saturday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

The Cottagers have strengthened their squad with the additions of Hugo Larsson, Manuel Angel and David Affengruber, but Arbeloa does not expect any of the trio to be ready to start at Craven Cottage, though they could be in the squad.

"The players are all ready except Tom Cairney," he said.

"Be patient with these three (new) players. They need to understand what we want from them.

"I don't think the new players are ready to start yet."

Arbeloa also welcomed the presence of Kenny Tete after the right-back's proposed move to Everton fell through.

"He's very happy to be here in another season," Arbeloa said.

"He has experience, he knows perfectly the club primarily and of course he will be another player who has been doing so great during the first season.

"So yeah, we're happy with him."

Pre-Crystal Palace Press Conference

Álvaro Arbeloa is hopeful that if Fulham can play with the identity he is working towards, then we can bank our first points of the season against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

After losing to both Chelsea and Sunderland, our Head Coach was asked how vital it is that his side provide a response at the Cottage this weekend.

"Yes, it's very important, because we play at home, we play against a team that didn't win any points, like us, in the first two games.

"I think it's very early, but points are always very important. It's another London Derby, so it's very important for us to show the team that we want to be."

There are similarities between ourselves and the Eagles right now, with Pierre Sage also new to Premier League management, and both teams looking for a first positive result of the campaign.

"He's a new manager for them, also," Arbeloa said. "I think the season is so, so, so long, and I can understand that normally fans are not patient because they want points.

"It's not just about how you play, they want points. That is, at the end, the most important thing.

"But I think he's a very, very good coach with very clear ideas, and you can see the patterns and how they play, so it's very clear for me. We played against them in the pre-season, and they beat us, so we know each other very well.

"I saw the game against [Manchester] City – City, we know how strong they are. They had very good action and situation against City. They lost, but they created so many good chances.

"Against Everton, too. I think they played very, very well against Everton. I don't know if they deserved to lose that game. It's going to be a tough game for us."

From the Press Box: Arbeloa happy with new additions ahead of Palace
Here's what happened when the boss sat down to face the press.

Window shut, sleep caught up on and now just on pitch matters to focus on until the New Year. Nice.

It was a marathon Deadline Day livestream, which captured all the emotions of what a Fulham journalist and fan goes through on the final day of the transfer window.

We added Manuel Angel, Hugo Larsson and David Affengruber to the squad, and when Arbeloa spoke to the press this morning, he shared his delight regarding his three new arrivals.

"Three players joined us, three quality players. We are happy with them. We are so, so happy with all the players that have joined us during the summer. Now, it's time to be focussed for the next games. My job is to improve my players. We know who we are and who we want to be", he said.

When all was said and done, Kenny Tete ended up staying at the club. Good news, in my opinion. Tete was close to a late move to Everton and wasn't involved against Sunderland. But he's back and it sounds as if he'll be in contention for tomorrow's game.

"He's very happy to be here for another season. He has experience, he knows the club, the Premier League perfectly. We are happy with him for sure."

Arbeloa gave his thoughts on signing two additional midfielders, an area of the pitch where Fulham have lacked bodies in recent seasons, but now, the midfield is well stocked with tons of depth.

"Hugo and Manuel Angel are number eights. These are the type of players we need. They are specific number eights; I felt like we needed something there."

Fulham did get their right-footed centre-back through the door. David Affenbruger, signed from Elche. Here's what Arbeloa said abou the new man at the back.

"He is very good with the ball, he understands the game very well, he will help us in the CB position. I'm very happy with these new players. It's a little early for these three players (for tomorrow). These players need a little bit of time, but be patient with these players."

The three newbies may feature on the bench, but apart from that, it sounds like Tom Cairney will be the only player missing through injury tomorrow.

It's been a testing start to life as Fulham head coach for Arbeloa. Two defeats in two in the league, despite advancing in the Carabao Cup. He will be keen to earn his first points as Fulham boss against Crystal Palace tomorrow, a side that have failed to pick up a point in their first two Premier League games too.

Now the window is closed, the speculation can stop and it's all about the football.

"When you start a new project, new manager, with six players coming - it needs time. We need to keep improving and the results will come. Now I can focus on the squad I have, it's time to work with all the players. Pressure is part of my job, but it doesn't change the way we've been working", said Arbeloa.

Looking back on the Sunderland game, AA had some reflections.

"Yes, I think like I said before, I feel that I didn't prepare my players in the way that have to do because when you perform so far from what you expect, I think there is a person that is responsible, that is me. So I need to help my players to perform at their best level and I need from there the energy, the ambition and the character.

"But when we lose a game, like we did against Sunderland, I feel that I am the person in charge, so it's on me."

Tomorrow is a big game for both sides. Fulham's record against Palace at the Cottage is poor. But, for both sides, things have changed on and off the pitch. It's a chance to end the hoodoo, to claim a first league win of the season and calm some of the nerves and anxiety that the fanbase may be feeling right now.

Alvaro Arbeloa discussed his desire for his first Premier League points of the season.

Fulham have embarked on a new journey after the exit of Marco Silva, but the Spaniard has suffered successive defeats against Chelsea (3-2) and Sunderland (1-0) in his first two league fixtures.

Fulham Vs Crystal Palace Pre-Analysis: A must win already?
Both teams arrive at Craven Cottage after two defeats in their opening two Premier League games. Can Fulham stop their poor recent form against the South Londoners?

Fulham and Crystal Palace meet at Craven Cottage this Saturday, with both teams looking to secure their first Premier League wins of the season.

Álvaro Arbeloa's Cottagers lost a thriller 3-2 to Chelsea on the opening Monday Night Football before suffering a lacklustre 1-0 defeat to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last week.

Like Fulham, this summer marked a transition period and a new era for the Eagles.

Oliver Glasner, who guided Palace to FA Cup, Community Shield and Europa Conference League glory, departed after two years and was replaced by former RC Lens manager Pierre Sage.

There have also been significant changes to the playing squad, with the departure of first-team regulars Maxence Lacroix, Brennan Johnson and Daniel Muñoz, alongside squad players such as Nathaniel Clyne and Justin Devenny.

Starting the season with a 2-0 defeat at Everton, Palace's first home game of this new era began with a demoralising 4-1 defeat to Manchester City. Despite Yéremy Pino's lovely free kick, a double from both Erling Haaland and Ryan Cherki condemned Sage to back-to-back Premier League defeats.

As Fulham search for a first home Premier League win against the Eagles since 2005, here is all the pre-match information you will need to know.

Álvaro Arbeloa: A mixed start

In all competitions, the former Real Madrid manager has secured one Carabao Cup victory alongside two Premier League defeats. In all three games, the good, the bad and the ugly of Arbeloa's tactical vision has been on display.

Against Fulham's SW6 rivals on matchday one, Fulham were generally unlucky not to come away with a point.

Offensively, it was a very encouraging performance for Fulham. The Cottagers played with attacking freedom, intensity, press and interchangeability that had not really been seen across the previous season.

Josh King shone as Fulham adopted their new manager's high line. This allowed Timothy Castagne and Antonee Robinson to drift into midfield to offer more dynamism and tenacity – while Robinson, in the second half especially, was playing as an additional left winger.

This exciting high line has its drawbacks. Defensively, Fulham were extremely exposed, and two of Chelsea's goals came as a direct result of brutally exposing these defensive shortcomings.

There was limited structure, shape and organisation to Fulham's defence, and once Chelsea had played through Fulham's midfield, it was almost always a three vs two in their favour.

Against AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup, Fulham were not under the same pressure or press as they were against the Blues. This enabled the high line to work well because the Dons were happy to sit in and defend resolutely. Despite the difference in quality of the opposition, Fulham's intensity was impressive, and this resulted in numerous chances created and a greater sense of fluidity being displayed.

Away at the Stadium of Light, Arbeloa seemed to have analysed and realised how poor Fulham were defensively against Chelsea. There was a clear tweak as Fulham were definitely more structured, patient and resolute in their defending, which allowed them to restrict Sunderland to half-chances for the majority of the game.

However, while the Cottagers were better defensively, the West Londoners were non-existent when it came to creating attacking chances. Perhaps it was the physicality of Sunderland, but Fulham struggled to string together any goal-mouth opportunities as the Sunderland defence proved too difficult to unlock.

Deadline Day Arrivals

This game will be the first chance for the Craven Cottage faithful to see Fulham's Deadline Day signings in action.

Swedish midfielder Hugo Larsson arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt, while Austrian centre-back David Affengruber arrived from Elche CF in La Liga. Arbeloa continued to use his Real Madrid contacts with the arrival of Spaniard Manuel Ángel from Los Blancos on a three-year deal.

Larsson is a dynamic, tall central or defensive midfielder who is known for his ball progression, composure under pressure, and high work rate. Suited to Arbeloa's high-press, build-from-the-back, possession-reliant style of play, Affengruber is calm under pressure and prefers to start attacks rather than clear the ball blindly. Ángel is a technically gifted central midfielder who roams fluidly between a box-to-box number 8 and a deeper number 6 role.

Affengruber's immediate plan will be to dislodge former Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen and make that right-side centre-back position his own, and he will hope to become Calvin Bassey's new long-term defensive partner.

Former Frankfurt man Larsson faces serious competition from Shea Charles and Alex Iwobi for a role as Fulham's eight, while Sander Berge has been a constant in this team for two seasons and will fight to keep his starting spot. While opportunities appear to be limited for Ángel, Arbeloa has reportedly shown he is unafraid to trust youth over experience.

Is this a must-win for the hosts?
Following that 1-0 defeat in the North of England, Arbeloa is definitely in need of getting the burden of a first win off his back. After this game, Fulham return to the North to face Liverpool at Anfield, before Michael Carrick's Manchester United arrive at the Cottage in the last Premier League game before the first international break of the season.

Palace are in an extremely similar position to Fulham – winless in their first two but still adapting to a new manager's tweaks and philosophy. In the most brutal footballing league in the world, time is very rarely afforded to new managers. While calling this game a "must-win" already may seem a little extreme, Fulham really could do with three points.

Past Game in Focus: Fulham 0-3 Crystal Palace (FA Cup Quarter-Final 24/25)

Fulham were left heartbroken as their hopes of reaching a first FA Cup semi-final since 2002 were destroyed by a ruthless and brilliant Crystal Palace.

Fulham started as the better team and were dominating possession when Adam Wharton was extremely lucky not to receive a second yellow card for a potential stamp. With Rodrigo Muniz unable to convert Fulham's best chance of the first 30 minutes, Palace went in front against the run of play when Eberechi Eze cut in from the left and curled a beautiful low shot around Bernd Leno and in off the far post.

This goal was followed by a Fulham capitulation as Ismaïla Sarr headed in an Eze cross four minutes later to effectively seal the tie. Willian forced Dean Henderson into a fine save, and Calvin Bassey had a header cleared off the line.

Despite the introduction of Adama Traoré, Emile Smith Rowe and Raul Jimenez, Eddie Nketiah slotted the ball under Leno's legs for Palace's third – who subsequently won the competition for the first time.

Fulham well placed to seal 'multi-million pound deals' after new development
Fulham's new £900-per-head hospitality package is a great way for them to boost their revenue per seat.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the West London outfit have now exhausted every opportunity for expansion at Craven Cottage.

Instead, the club recently confirmed that they have launched the Premier League's first Michelin-standard matchday hospitality package, in the latest scheme from owner Shahid Khan.

Wyness believes that there will be a market for that level of hospitality experience at Fulham, but feels that other clubs away from London would be unable to make it work.

The Cottagers have gained a reputation for offering a lavish matchday experience through certain packages at their home games, and this is their latest idea.

With Premier League clubs trying to push the SCR boundaries as much as possible at the moment, Wyness sees this as an ideal way for Fulham to boost their profit a little.

Fulham hospitality will help with transfers
Everton's former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Fulham's new hospitality will inadvertently help them to close transfers and sponsorship deals in future.

He outlined that it would provide the ideal situation to meet with prospective partners, or even with players and their agents.

Speaking on Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained the likely reasons behind Fulham introducing the new package.

"They can't build any more capacity for growth, so they're going to have to just get more revenue per seat," he said.

"They've tried it in so many ways now with their new exclusive club at the top and all the rest of it. And I get it. There are probably very few clubs that could try and attract the crowd that could afford this. Fulham is one of the very few that could.

"Look, it's one of those things: if you're trying to close a big deal in London or the client is a multi-million deal you might be signing, then of course it's going to be one of those things that you'd love to do, and people might want to treat themselves to special days out as well.

"So I understand it, and I think there'll be a market in Fulham. I don't think you'll find it in the North East, the North West. I don't think you'll find it even in Birmingham. So I think it's certainly a London thing that will be going on."

Fulham in battle to sign Irish sensation
Football Insider revealed back in August that both Fulham and Newcastle are chasing a move to sign starlet Oli Devlin from Northern Irish side Coleraine.

The attacking midfielder is on the radar of several Premier League clubs, with Fulham and Newcastle at the forefront of the chase to secure his long-term future.

The starlet made eight senior appearances last term, notching a goal and two assists in the Northern Irish top flight.

Devlin is making waves for Coleraine, and that has unsurprisingly thrust him onto the radar in the Premier League.

Alvaro Arbeloa has insisted that Kenny Tete is happy to be staying at Fulham.

The Dutchman was on the verge of joining Everton on Tuesday, but Fulham were unable to bring in a replacement right-back, so refused to let him go.

Whites boss Arbeloa said: "He's very happy to be here for another season. He has experience, he knows the club, the Premier League perfectly. We are happy with him for sure."

Arbeloa welcomed the club's pre-deadline additions of midfielders Manuel Angel, Hugo Larsson and centre-back David Affengruber, taking the number of Fulham's summer signings to six.

"Three new players have joined us last, so we are happy with them", said Arbeloa.

"I think Hugo and Maruel Angel, they are specific players who play there like a number eight, so I felt that we needed something there, and both players are quality players and I think they will improve us," said Arbeloa.

New Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa is still waiting for his first league win as manager of the Whites, but has just one absentee in his squad to face Crystal Palace, with captain Tom Cairney suffering from a knee injury.

Fulham added three new faces on deadline day as they completed deals for Hugo Larsson, Manuel Angel and David Affengruber, but any debuts on Saturday are likely to come from the bench.

"I think these three players need a little bit more time. I think they will be in the squad, but I said that they are not ready to play from the start," highlighted Arbeloa in the pre-match press conference.

The new coach won his first game with Fulham after a 3-0 home win against AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup but is desperate for his first points in the league against a Palace side that also haven't won in the Premier League so far.

"It's very important, because we play at home, we play against a team that didn't win any points like us in the first two games."

"I think it's very early, but points are always important, it's another London derby so it's very important for us to show the team we want to be," stated Arbeloa.

Spaniard Gonzalo Garcia is expected to lead the line for the West London side after scoring on his Premier League debut against Chelsea and then bagging another in the 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.

New manager Pierre Sage has endured a difficult first few weeks as Palace manager after back-to-back defeats and rumours surrounding key players Ismaila Sarr and Jean Philippe Mateta wanting to leave the club.

Both will not play on Saturday against Fulham due to injury with Moroccan international Chadi Riad also missing out due to a long term injury suffered on the opening weekend.

"Sarr needs time to recover; he is injured at the moment, and Mateta is injured, now for three weeks," stated Sage in his pre-match press conference.

Sage will have a plethora of new options to choose from, with Palace making four signings on deadline day, and the Frenchman Sage noted how pleased he was with Palace's transfer business.

"We are happy with the four players who signed at the end; we have enough players, and we did what we decided to do so that's a success," outlined Sage.

There could be a debut for Chilean winger Dario Osario, who was brought into South London on deadline day from FC Midtjylland.

"We need a player with his speed in that position; he is able to shoot from far, and he has scored lots of goals like that," explained Sage.

Five things to look out for as Fulham look to get off the mark against Crystal Palace
Things are getting twitchy as the Whites welcome Palace to the Cottage today.

Is Matchday 3 too early to say a game is "must win"? Probably. But it's certainly feeling like heads are starting to turn in Fulham's direction, even the fanbase seems to be split down the middle on Arbeloa.

Last week the Spaniard declared that "we are so ambitious" before a disappointing trip to Teesside that saw Fulham register zero shots on target, and leaving a second Premier League game without any points.

After the game Arbeloa went on to say, "We didn't even fight, we didn't run, poor technical level. We were not in the game." It's an adequate summation, but beforehand said he "did not like the attitude of his team" leaving the Match of the Day pundits wondering whether the Spaniard had gone too early with his criticism of the Whites. Four goals conceded in two games, and three soft ones at that, we need to see some improvement quickly.

Here's hoping the three arrivals on deadline day can help. More on them later.

Over in Croydon, things haven't exactly been plain sailing either. After the departure of Oliver Glasner, Palace appointed Frenchman Pierre Sage, who sparkled with both Lyon and Lens. His style, on paper, is the opposite of Arbeloa: he relies on structured pressing, compact shape and quick, vertical transitions. With six goals conceded in two games, it looks like Sage's tactics might need some time to bed in.

Palace had a strange transfer window, welcoming in three deadline day signings of their own – Quinten Timber, Dario Osorio and Ben Chillwell, to add to Dwight McNeil, Anan Khalalili, Tomiyasu, Zavior Gozo and Oscar Mingueza. But the summer also bought turmoil, Maxence Lacroix joined Chelsea, Daniel Munoz reunited with Glasner in Nottingham, JP Mateta is currently injured, aka refusing to play, and Ismaila Sarr is mourning a collapsed move to Liverpool.

This weekend is shaping up to be tasty. Here's five things to look out for:

1. Goals. Potentially lots of them.
These are two teams who've struggled to keep the ball out of the net in the opening two games. Palace conceded four against Manchester City with Sage saying that they played "65 good minutes" after a delayed pre-season. Palace have looked weaker in wide areas and struggled to stop the ball entering the box against City. They will be pleased, though, with the number of chances they created throughout the duration of the match. Much like Fulham, their finishing left a lot to be desired.

While Fulham didn't register a shot on target against Sunderland, so writing that there could be goals feels weird, but there were signs of creativity. Josh King had a notable opening in the first half, Garcia with two right at the death. Fulham need to be more incisive with their attacking play – and take more risks in the shooting department.

In all, both sides feel vulnerable, and Pierre Sage has been vocal about using this Fulham match as a barometer for his side this season. Palace enter this weekend without a win in nine games, stretching back to last season, Fulham should be targeting this game for three points.

2. Josh King. Again.
This column could easily have a section dedicated to Josh King every week, but for the sake of you all I've tried to mix it up. But through the first two weeks of the season, most good things have flowed through the young starlet. In my preview against Chelsea I mentioned how he is being played further up the pitch. This second striker role does suit King, who isn't afraid to lead the line and feels like he could create something out of nothing when on the ball.

While he snatched at his chance last week, his confidence was on show against Chelsea, bringing it to the noisy neighbours and making up for the goal that never was. The refreshing thing about King is that he doesn't overthink it; the head never drops and he keeps plugging away. The breakout will come, and there's good reason why he travelled to the World Cup with England.

3. Who takes left wing?
Last week we discussed Emile Smith Rowe versus Cesar Palacios, and the Spaniard ultimately won out. Not many things went right for Fulham from an attacking perspective last week, but the spotlight may quickly end up on the left wing where things do feel uncertain. Palacios started well against Chelsea, but didn't catch the eye as much against Sunderland and was replaced by ESR.

It will be interesting to see if the young Spaniard gets the nod again this week, or Arbeloa goes for a traditional wide player given Palace's defensive shape that often reverts to a back five out of possession.

As a final note, it'll be interesting to see who Arbeloa calls on during the game. There was some negative discourse about his substitutions last week, particularly his use of Ryan Sessegnon and Shea Charles.

4. The new boys in town
The Whites welcomed three more recruits on deadline day, Manuel Angel, David Affengruber and Hugo Larsson, in a bid to add some much-needed depth to the squad.

Affengruber arrives after an eye-catching two years with Elche in Spain and has recently made his debut for his native Austria, being named in their World Cup squad. He predominantly plays on the right-side of a back three and is known for his passing range and reading of the game. He'll likely slot in as the fourth-choice centre-back in a move that will free up Luc De Fougerolles to go out on loan – the Canadian has been linked with a move to Real Salt Lake.

Manuel Angel is another recruit from Real Madrid Castilla and worked with Arbeloa previously; it was his current coach who handed him his Real Madrid debut. Angel is on the smaller side at 5"7, but brings good technical ability, distribution and vision. Personally, I am not bought into this signing as the Premier League feels too physical for him, but at £3m it's low risk.

Hugo Larsson is an exciting signing, and despite the noise surrounding his move to London, he will be one to look out for. He's 6"2, rangy and dynamc in the middle of the park. The Swede commanded the highest ever fee paid to a Swedish club when he moved to Frankfurt and has justified that price tag. His reading of the game is exceptional, which makes him press-resistant, and can operate as a six or an eight.

I'd have liked to have seen Larsson on the pitch this weekend, but Arbeloa hinted in his press conference that it's too early.

5. Baby, you're a FUL to CRY
Yes, it's that time of the year when FUL-CRY swings back into view. Fulham haven't beaten Palace at home since 2005(!), with the most painful of those defeats being the 0-3 FA Cup defeat at home in 2025.

There have been way too many tears shed at the hands of a club named after an exhibition building.

Let's hope there aren't any tears this weekend and we can all celebrate three points.

"That's football" – President on player's frustration after Fulham transfer blocked
Fulham and Nottingham Forest failed to sign Rayo Vallecano's Andrei Rațiu in the summer window.

On deadline day, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining that the right-back's move to Fulham was off because Rayo Vallecano president Raúl Martín Presa wasn't budging.

Rejects Fulham and Nottingham Forest bids
Saturday's edition of AS have a short report about the Premier League duo's late offers for the 28-year-old.

He hardly received approaches until Nottingham Forest tabled €25m bid on August 28th.

Andrei Rațiu has a contract until 2028, and it includes a €25m release clause. The Reds offered the same price but refused to pay the full fee up front. This didn't please the La Liga side.

Rayo Vallecano's rejection saw Nottingham Forest end up signing Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace.

Fulham then submitted the same amount to sign the player. Raúl Martín Presa rejected it as the London club weren't activating the clause and wanted to spread the payment.

Counteroffer for Fulham
Online, AS provides more updates on what happened 'in the final hours of the Rațiu Case'.

Fulham's €25m offer included payment spread across five instalments. Raúl Martín Presa, on the other hand, requested the full fee up front.

The uncertainty around the Romania international's future saw the Spanish club line up a few options to replace him. With hardly anytime left to negotiate on deadline day, the Rayo Vallecano president softened his stance and made a counteroffer to Álvaro Arbeloa's side.

He accepted for the payment over five instalments, provided the fee is €30m and not €25m.

The English club didn't accept both conditions, and 'that ended the player's hopes'.

Rayo Vallecano manager Beñat San José had left the Romania international out of the squad for the clash against Barcelona on Monday. Beñat confirms he's back in contention to face Racing Santander later today.

"This is football. It's normal for players who had a great season last year to have offers, and the desire to take the next step in their careers is the most natural thing in the world. That doesn't mean they aren't comfortable with us," he said.

"Andrei wasn't in optimal condition to play in Barcelona, and we decided that someone else should play there. Andrei is a spectacular professional and is available for selection and even a starting role."

Clarke joins Fulham
The Club is delighted to announce the signing of 17-year-old defender Marley Clarke.

Clarke, who has trialled with the Club for the last month or so, will join the Under-18s programme.

"I'm delighted to sign for Fulham," he told fulhamfc.com. "It's a great move for me. To join a category one academy is a big step, but I'm ready and can't wait to get started.

"I've enjoyed the trial period. The Club has high standards, and that's helped push me to the max.

"I'm an attacking full-back. I'm athletic, like to get crosses in the box, support my winger, but one-v-one defending is also a quality of mine."

A right-sided defender, Clarke joins the Club from Watford. He signed for the Hornets in 2023 having previously been at Crystal Palace, who he joined at U11s.

Clarke, who highlights Cafu as one his biggest football inspirations, initially came into Motspur Park on trial and featured in a number of pre-season friendlies for both our U21s and U18s sides.

He has also made a strong impression in competitive action, starting all three of our U18 Premier League matches so far as a trialist.
