I suppose that shows why England does so badly in the World Cup.

My point is if there are so few English players getting first team football, how can we hope for a good English team? There are actually zero British players on Liverpool and only the two English players on Fulham's starting 11

One answer is to get more English players playing in top leagues abroad. Then it matters less whether (eg) Brighton have English players in their starting line-up or not.

Completely agree with this. I have long felt that time spent gaining the right overseas experience can hugely improve a player.

The scousers are probably quite happy about that. They've always wanted to be separate to England and be their own Republic.

Sure, and I pointed out the flaw in that, since you can be English without being born in England, as I would have to assume that you know. Especially in relation to the discussion about the England team, since all of those mentioned have been eligible for selection, before opting to play for other countries (except for King).

We have seen a notable increase in this in recent years I'd say. Kane and Bellingham obvious examples. But there's also been Quansah, Sancho, Nwaneri, Jobe Bellingham, Norton Cuffy just came back to PL via Genoa, Maitland Niles was at Lyon.

Edit: Also forgot Gordon at Barca and Trent at Real too.
