How do we get ourselves over the line, and out of our own way?

Four Fulham players in the top 10 in the league so far for passes completed in Castage, Berge, Affengruber, Iwobi and Bassey..

According to this, Garcia should have at least 3 more goals/assists given his play, chances etc (which would put him on 4 g/a in 7 games)

Yeah, I think this is key. I can think of at least 4 more he should have. You've got to be getting into those positions which is the real bonus so far with his all round game. His finishing isn't a problem- as proved by the goals he's scored in his young career so far. Reckon he'll score a hatful at some point (hopefully tomorrow).

Quote from: Bassey the warrior on October 22, 2026, 03:50:12 PMI really like Garcia and Bobb, so I would keep them in the starting line up. Garcia just needs to get a goal as he's clearly lacking a bit of confidence, but he's still putting in a shift every game.

Key thing in the meantime is to keep it tight at the back, so there's less pressure to outscore the opponents. The goals will come I'm sure.
I don't think it's as simple as "Garcia needs a goal", I think the boy needs some coaching and some instruction, I commented after the Hull game that he was never "lurking" in the 18 yard box, most of the time he was out wide or even dropping to the half way line, his enthusiasm and effort should be applauded but it's not what you want to see from your center forward ,and goes a long way in explaining why the stats of King and Bobb are so poor.
Hopefully someone has had a quiet word with him this week.

It could be that he's not that type of striker. Ironically, he has the attributes to be a good poacher but he keeps drifting. Obviously, I think he is doing this because of instructions by AA but if he does drift, then someone needs to be in the box.

This is one of the issues - our starting line up lacks a box crasher. Garcia likes to get involved in the build up and play 1-2s but then someone needs to break into the box. Palacios strikes me as that type of player but he's only getting minimal minutes currently. I'd like to see Charles break into the box a bit more as he could be effective; we know Berge's not likely to contribute much there.

I've seen plenty of times Garcia's made good runs beyond the last man, he's not averse to getting in the box. He's a good all rounder that just needs a bit of fine tuning.

Many times he hasn't been given the feed. Josh has often been guilty of selfishly taking a questionable shot, when Garcia has been the better option.

Garcia has missed opportunities when he has been presented with them. Whether that is anxiety I don't know. There is evidence that he showed finishing ability from his RM days so it's a bit of a mystery.
It's all a bit circular too, the more Garcia finishes off his chances the more his team mates will be confident to look for him and pick him out rather than trying to do the job themselves. Not saying they are actively avoiding him just that confidence in him will build the confidence to look for him.

I'm not a great fan in the over use and reliance on stats like these. They are interesting bits of data that help build a picture but in the end we all know it was never about how many shots or corners or whatever we used to measure when stats were less sophisticated. It was how many went in the net and how many more than the opposition.

It's all interesting but not the whole story.

Just for the record part of my work does involve the need to analyse data in  detail so it is about understanding what is significant and what is not.

The fact that Forest should've had 11 points makes me not take these stats seriously.

I've seen Forest twice- v Palace where they could have scored 5 first half and somehow ended up losing, and home to Cov where they should have won too. They've been playing well. Not unlike us.

Quote from: Jim© on October 23, 2026, 09:48:38 AMPersonally from what I've seen, I think Garcia (and one or two others) will end up scoring a good number this season. The most important thing as a CF is to be getting chances. We're making a lot of them but not converting them and you could point to some stats to bear this out:

Fulham are 17th in goals scored
Fulham are 7th in shots
Fulham are 8th in shots on target
Fulham are 12th in shots on target %

There's something about these figures that tend to even themselves up over a season.
Last season we had the lowest shots on target figure in the division, 16th for goals scored, 12th for shots, 17th for shots on target but we had the 7th best defense.

By goal differential we are 11th in the table.
