I was surprised and now happy with Jol but where is the excitement and discussion of his style of play when we thought he may have come here last season???
Do we have a team that can play that wide open???
Please discuss... 092.gif 092.gif 092.gif

Sure, Jol's an attack-minded manager, but it's gonna take a while for the team to adjust.   They were starting to do it towards the end of last year, and it was working, so i am hoping for a few more 3-0s, 4-0s, and 2-2s instead of those bore draws.

At Spurs (probably our best guide) his team scored a lot, conceded a lot. If he make one happen without the other, should be a fun season...

Tottenham leaked 143 goals, with his team's worst defensive performance coming in his first match, a 5-4 home defeat by Arsenal.

Spurs scored 166 times, even outscoring the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, in 2007.

Overall, he got a goal difference of +23.  That's still really good.  I really wouldn't be bothered if we scored 30 more and conceded 30 more too.

This is the interesting thing - the players have been on the track for more 'attacking' football for the last 12 months and now Jol can build on that with an entire pre-season and ability to supplement the squad with attacking signings.

Seems to me that could by why he is a such a good appointment. Hodgson build the spine of the team and created discipline on defense, once that was done he had us attacking more. Hughes was nearly completely attack minded, too much so in the beginning, moving to a higher line but we made the adjustments and became even better, though vulnerable to teams with better skill players who had pace.

Jol should be able to evolve us very easily to what he wants. I just hope he continues to keep the spine strong and disciplined.

+1 Absolutley

We have a pretty solid defense in place already.  This could be fun!! 098.gif

Jol's last club had the highest number of goals and the best goals-against record in the league. Very Chelsea-esque. It's a little harsh to judge him on his Spuds squads where they had to outscore the opponents with Paul "I've retired from England" Robinson sleeping in goal.

I agree with you LN, our defense is solid! I am thinking top 6 depending on who we add and if we stay healthy.

You aim too low, good reverend! 2010-2011 season Fulham had the 4th tightest defence!
