Fulham want to find out if Martin Jol will commit his long-term future to the club amid fears he may be waiting for a better offer.

Jol's contract at Craven Cottage is due to expire at the end of the season and the Dutch coach has so far held off negotiating an extension.

Fulham want to start talks, and are aware 56-year-old Jol could become the target of rival clubs if he continues his good work.

Jol has insists he is happy at Fulham, but admits it is frustrating the Cottagers do not get more exposure.

A source said: "Fulham want to get talks going with Martin over his future, but it seems he is in no rush at the moment. He is keeping his options open."

Jol guided Fulham to ninth place in his first season with 52 points. The Cottagers have made an impressive start to this campaign too.

In a recent interview, former Tottenham boss Jol hinted at his frustrations.

"I'd love to stay, but I'm too sensitive for this business," said Jol. "I like to be recognised. That's why I'm a sportsman. I work not only for money, but because I want people to see me and my club are doing well.

"When I was in Waalwijk, at my first club, they named a street after me.

"I get on with the people at Fulham. The only thing is this is an old-school place. I still don't feel all the supporters are behind me."

Meanwhile, Darren Bent is set to be offered a route out of Aston Villa by Fulham in the transfer window.

Though the story is probably bollocks he is doing a good job and is a high profile manager so is able to bargain from a position of strength.

The positive for us as fans is that I imagine that if he stays, he will use his leverage to guarantee he gets funds.

Old quotes plus what club would possibly go for him in the near future? Can't think of any myself.

Jol was dealt the shittiest hand imaginable in the transfer season.  He looked absolutely fish-slapped after the Double D departure.  Dog bless him, but he bounced back and brought in a superstar and a journeyman at the death to give himself and us just a glimmer twin of hope.  Okay, the journeyman needs to be rested in favour of our youth (FreiKac), but the superstar is as sublime as it gets.
But, against all odds, he has rebuilt the team into a unit that plays some of the best football we've ever seen at this level - and on a relative shoe-string!
Jol is one heck of a manager.  I have a sneaking suspicion he reads this messageboard occasionally.  Those of us (or you) who were so quick and persistent in damning him to gottenfury should spend a few moments on the lavatory contemplating the impact your knee-jerk reactions to a few temporary setbacks might have on such a sensitive soul.  Then, as you make your final desperate push in trying to beat the farmers, kindly consider the alternatives.
Coleman? So out of his depth he needed a shark lung?
Sanchez?  The Booby Campbell of the naughties.
Hodgson?  Great, but is fraidy-scared of staying anywhere long enough in case he's found lacking in something, someone, god only knows what!
Hughes?  More ambition than a pit-bull with nipple rings.
Jol is the real deal.  We need to give him as much love and support as Ringo gets at a drummers' convention.

I don't agree.
I think Coleman was a great player for us, and absolutely committed to the club. He was the right manager for the time. Inspirational, if lacking in experience.
Hodgson was the right manager for the time. Of course, he wasn't perfect, but he brought stability and massive  success to Fulham (league position and in Europe). I cannot be critical of him, or  blame him for wanting to 'test his managerial skill' with Liverpool.

I hope you were not one of those that blamed the 2 D's for wanting to test their playing skills at another club.

Recognition?

Hell, we got first slot on MOTD last night.

What more recognition could one want?

I couldn't agree more with the statement that Coleman was a great player for us and seems to love the club to death.  That still doesn't get away from the fact (I mean my opinion) that he was a very poor choice as manager.  His career since has reinforced that view.  Let's not forget that back then he was greener than a bowl of split pea soup too.
Hodgson?  Loved the man.  But, I won't withdraw a word I wrote about him.  The man doesn't seem to have any staying power - he's always on the move.  He should have carried on what he started with us, but I just don't think he's capable of doing that anywhere any time.  Napoleon's definition of genius was "de fixer les objets longtemps" - loosely translated as to concentrate on things for a long time.  That is Hodgson's weakness, a weakness he seems to have exhibited throughout his career.
Having said that, I much prefer Jol's style of football so it's all swings and roundabouts.
