Personally...

I believe that QPR's approach is unsustainable, even if they avoid the drop BUT

Aston villa have either buried their head in the sand or are planning for Championship football next season

But which is the biggest gamble?

SaltfordWhite

Rangers for sure, if only because they have made their last roll of the dice. By that I mean that they have placed their entire future at huge risk with these ridiculous contracts, and as you say even if they stay up, it simply isn't sustainable.

Villa may well get relegated, (and I think Lambert has to shoulder some of the blame there), but even if they were to go down, they are a big well supported club that with the right backing could afford to spend reasonably big to get back to the big time.

Villa still have options, where as Rangers don't as far as I can see.

Riverside

Need a third option on this poll .

As for me these are the 2 extremes of how not do it . Splash cash or spend nothing .

I do think though the Villa spend nothing comes from the splash cash era that there was before . ( Bent's signing was very QPR/Samba esq)

I am glad we seem to be in between the 2 extremes and also seem to be able to play the loan / out of contract market better than anyone !  :scarf:

it is sustainable if their chairmen remain committed. take us in divison 2. mo was buying us a new player every day. that was  not susstainable but here we are today in our golden era.
CHRIS MARTIN IS SO BAD,  WE NOW PRAISE HIM FOR MAKING A RUN.

I thought that Villa actually had bought someone yesterday I hadn't heard of the guy before, but I hadn't heard of Hangeland until Roy brought him in.

Having said that, spending a fortune and then getting relegated seems a bit stupider than being conservative and then getting relegated.

Difference being our only way was up, QPR are on their way down

Think Villa will drop

QPR are gonna have enough to scrape 17th last day ish again

Their spending has just set an ugly precedent / embarrassing wage inflation / blatant tapping up & sums up all that is wrong with the Prem

I hope they drop, just cant see them reverting to pre Harry form :$

A Humble Man

You can only buy success in football if you have a infinite bank roll like Chelsea and Man City and an inferstructure that can support this.   QPR cannot support this with their tiny ground and their owners are all ready threatening to move out if things get tough.

I do not want any team to go bust but QPR are in great danger.
We Are Fulham, Believe.

FC Silver Fox

I agree with the Humble man. The QPR financial management plan reeks of desperation and is highly risky. They are jeopardising the whole future of the club on the next 4 months' performance.

Finn and Corked Hat, you are forever part of the family.

RaySmith

You have to laugh. Everywhere Redknap goes, he spends a fortune the club doesn't really have, buying, limited, success- then buggers off wth a massive payout - leaving the club in the mire.

And the media continue to love him.

Burt

Agree with the above comments around QPR's approach being unsustainable. I would be seriously worried if I were a hoops supporter. The way 'Arry has conducted himself, and the approach the club have taken, is very risky... I would not want to see them go in to administration.

QPR may survive this season by what they have done. But with an 18k stadium for at least the next five years. Somewhere in yhe region of 35-40 full time proffesionals on their books ( so massive clearout required, easier said than done given what they pay them). Their commitments are massive.the income from finishing bottom next season is already spent. Plus knowing harry he would want to spend more in the summer.
They are headed for admin at some stage in the next 24-36 months if they stay up.
If they go down it will be within 18 months.

I agree. Whether they go down this season or not, they'll be in serious financial straits within two or three years at the latest. They don't have a productive youth program that will give them plenty of young players to sell for cash, and -- as you've said -- they can't really improve on their attendance. They were in a weak financial position under Colin and Sparky. But they've sealed their fate by hiring 'arry the Thug.

He nearly broke Wet Spam, did break Southampton and Pompey, and I think he'll destroy QPR. Sad, really.

the thing is we can all see that you employ Harry that's what happens pretty much.
To just say its the chairmans doing and not his fault is a lie. No morals at all or care of duty for his employers/club.

Parenthetically, I think the Premier League should get some of the credit for Pompey's demise. Two consecutive sets of owners that passed the league's "fit and proper test" were absolute jokes.
