"The Home Grown player rule took effect at the start of the 2010/11 season and involves all Premier League Clubs.
All 20 Clubs must include eight Home Grown players out of a squad of 25 for that Premier League season.
A Home Grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).
Clubs are able to supplement their squads with unlimited additional players under the age of 21 on 1st January in the year in which the season commences."

We have in the squad 7 ? : Stockdale , Etheridge ,  Briggs , Hughes , Sidwell , Richardson , Duff  .
Of whom Stockdale may still be sold or go on loan and Briggs may also go on loan again .

Are we short or have I missed someone or something .....

The ever popular and (almost) mistake free Philippe Senderos is also 'home grown'.

Kerim Frei?

Most, if not all, our u21 players are 'home grown', but thay don't count in the 25 man squad limit.
As I said the other day, I don't know if it is possible to 'waste' an u21 by regstering him as home-grown in the final 25. I'm guessing not, in which case, if (as seems likely) Etheridge were to go on loan, at least one of the many new star signings soon to be announced would have to be 'home grown'. I suppose that's why we let Thiago go to Bayern.

Kaca should count as home grown and was not under the age of 21 at the start of this year.

I always seem to forget about this.

You can count under 21's in the total but it would waste a squad space. Darren bent and Tom Huddleston will both be home grown anyway.

Kacaniklic is with us for 3 years already and before that he was at Liverpool so that's one more for the quota yep

Quite right. Hadn't realised he was such an old-timer.

What's the next thing to panic about?

Berbatov is out of contract at the end of the season... discuss ;)

They say you need eight homegrown players, what they really mean is there are eight spots reserved for home grown players, but you don't have to fill them. In other words, a maximum of 17 non-home grown players (not counting under 21s). Though with Kaca and Senderos we have more than eight anyway.
