Good win for the u18s this morning against Reading U18s 3-1

Reading have been strong these last few years so although its a different side, its stills great win, especially as we still have some u16s playing up .

Question, with the movement of some of our academy personnel, is there still a good coaching structure for the youth players to continue to succeed or attract players or has the new owner and manager damaged it?

I know you pay close attention to what is going on and this is a concern I have had recently.

I was at the Ipswich match and had hoped to get to the Reading game today.
But my boy played this morning and time that had finished, I wouldn't of got to see much of the u16 and u18s games, so didn't get there in the end

Of course losing Steve Wigley was a big blow, Steve is regarded as one of the best youth coaches in the game, and when he talks, you listen.

But saying that, we had some very good applicants for his job once he went back to Forest, and so I've been told, we've been very lucky to get someone like Kevin Keen, who is different to Steve but still very very good.

No one from the Academy ( apart from the odd admin staff) lost their job after relegation.

I can't speak highly enough of some of the top people we have at our club and still believe, at the moment it's the best part of the club, and will hopefully keep producing the players it has, as long as they don't slash the budget and as long as we keep our Catergory 1 status.

Lose that and we are in big trouble.

We are in a very difficult situation at the moment when it comes to finding local talent, as there are so many other clubs about sniffing around locally.

Go to some grass roots games and you could well find scouts from Chelsea, Palace, brentford, Afc Wimbledon, Brighton, Southampton and even Norwich have scouts in Surrey .

Take in to account London area, and you will get most teams in London with scouts looking at young players.


But I believe we have some of the best people at our academy to attract the best players, especially now they will see youngsters will get a chance at Fulham at breaking into the first team

Thank you. That is very reassuring. With all the bad news surrounding the club on the pitch and in the back office, this appears to remain the bright spot.

One of the biggest supporters of the academy has been Alistair Mackintosh, I understand he's come in for a lot of stick, but he is also part of the reason we have such a thriving academy.

As I've said before, keeping hold of our Catergory 1 academy status is so important.

I just hope Khan keeps supporting the academy as much asAl Fayed did.

Players like pat Roberts and George Williams and Emerson Hyndman will either make the club a lot of money or save the club a lot of money
