That was a class performance! Once again Roy not only picked a seasoned pro up, but looks to have already gotten more from him than most would have expected. Hope he only gets better now with more matches and guidance from the master. Does anyone know if he can play right back too?

I think Shorey was not only brought in as cover, but to push Konch when he gets back. I liked what I saw, but still think Konch is the superior player. When PK is out or needs a rest then I am quite pleased with Shorey stepping in.

I think there will be a real battle for the left-back spot when Konch is fit. Not a bad thing either.

Very, very impressed.
He filled me with confidence in his playing style. He wasn't shy to get stuck in, came forward and passed well, and was good cover at the back - all the things we have come to expect of a back with Konch.

Will PK have a battle getting back in the side? Depends on how Shorey does over the next few weeks, with PK likely out for a short while yet, he has plenty of opportunity to shine - and I hope he does. Goos lad, good purchase, and again, good management by Roy in getting him.

One game does not make a season, but I saw enough quality to know that Konch now needs to look a bit more in the mirror.

Nicky Shorey made a superb start to his loan spell with the Whites on Wednesday night with an accomplished display at left-back as Fulham secured all three points against Portsmouth at the Cottage.

Following Wednesday night's win Roy Hodgson praised Shorey and explained the defender has solved what had become a problem position in recent weeks, due to Paul Konchesky's absence through injury.   

"He [Shorey] was outstanding," Hodgson enthused. "He's a very good player and there wasn't much doubt about Nicky Shorey because we know what a good player he is.

"We know what an accomplished Premier League player he is. It was just a case of him solving the problem we've had at left back since Paul Konchesky got injured at Blackburn."

Fulham fans at the Cottage on Wednesday night also saw Stefano Okaka make his debut for the Whites and Hodgson explained that the talented Italian youngster will take time to adapt to his new surroundings.

"I think Okaka's going to take a lot of time because he's a young, raw player," said Hodgson. "Had Erik Nevland not had a problem with his toe he probably wouldn't have started on Wednesday night.

"With Erik's problem we were a bit wary of pushing him for the 90 minutes because we didn't know how long he could last. We threw Stefano in and he showed a lot of determination and a lot of 'grinta' to use an Italian word.

"It will take a lot of time before he comes to terms with how we play but I think he's probably happy to be on a winning team and that maybe is the most important thing of all."
