Referring to Fernhurst above , I remember that game when he came back with Luton and scored their only goal winner.
Unlike some players scoring against their old club he made quite an occasion of his celebration.

Was'nt Viv Busby playing for Luton at the time as well?

...and Alan Slough?
And Bruce Rioch

Fernhurst

Think it was this one.

08 Apr 1970   Fulham v Luton Town   L   0-1   League Division Three
Attendances still holding up almost 19,000

Don't remember his huge celebration though  1500.gif
Mind you, what day of the week is it?
The atmosphere's fresh and the debate lively.

I remember watching McDondalds few games for Fulham, he was our one bright spark Ina very poor team.  Utter madness to drop and then sell him as has been previously said, right up there as the most stupid thing the club has ever done...and people moan about Khan !   It was obvious to anyone with any football savvy that he was going to be a fantastic striker and I was furious when we sold him for peanuts.

I was a fervent Luton Town supporter in the late 60s and 70s -- my beloved father-in-law introduced me to the game and the club.

Anyhow, I had departed England for a trip to Texas and another to Vietnam just as Supermac signed. He was sold to Newcastle as I was on my way back to England. The only time I ever saw him at Kenilworth Road was on Luton's brief return to the First Division. It was the home opener and he got the only goal.

The only time I saw him play at Wembley was in the 5-0 victory over Malta. I loved his game and attitude, but I don't buy the 5'11'' for a minute.

Same here. One of two old Rothman's Yearbooks I retain lists him, in 1975, at 5 ft' 8''. I'd have guessed an inch more possibly, but the point was that he belied his height by means of athletic spring and timing in the air.

AK47  (5 ft' 9.5") did similar when soaring to score against Middlesborough. Malcolm was no way taller than him, but a tad smaller all round, quicker still -- and more of a guided missile..

Stoneleigh Loyalist

As I said on another thread, Ray Harford lived close to me when he was Fulham Manager and remained in the same Stoneleigh house when he went to Blackburn and Wolves.
It was not unusual to see signed Blackburn shirts in local charity raffles!

Malcolm went through a bad patch and was a regular visitor to Ray Harford's house.and it was sad to see his untidy appearance and the old banger which he then drove.

Fortunately he pulled this round and good luck to him.

Anyone else remember the old Sporting Superstars TV program? I seem to remember that Supermac one this one year.

Oh yes. One of the attractions of the programme was seeing the footballing superstars regularly put to shame by the track and fielders, cyclists, rowers and the then amateur (supposedly) Rugby boys. Then Macdonald turned up and blitzed the lot of them, including, as mentioned in the article, a sprint time that would have put him under consideration for the GB athletics squad.
Still, what did we need with him? We had super fit 'athletes' like Brian Dear and Budgie Byrne instead.
