i maintain my summer prediction,top 5

• 7th in the league. We had the 9th best goal differential last season, and we should improve on that by avoiding the injuries and distraction of Europe. We should finish comfortably ahead of Blackburn, Stoke and Sunderland; that leaves us needing to pass 2 out of Brum, Everton, Pool, and Villa to get to 7th. I think there's sufficient disarray there to let us sneak in.
• The cups are crapshoot, depending on the draw, phase of the moon, etc. My guess: We're out of the league cup tonight, and make the quarters of the FA cup.

Agree with you all of that, especially other teams falling away, except tonight - I think we will get to the quarters of both cups

Bookies have us down for 10th (i.e. roughly 10th most likely to win/get top 6 and 11th least likely to get relegated).

Seems about right. I fear that we won't be accumulating the points at home that we've been used to, simply cos we'll struggle to score, especially against teams that go looking for the 0-0 away point. We'll miss Zamora, I think (although who knows, maybe if we can get through these fews matches until AJ/Kamara come back, they'll be as good as before).

edit: case in point, that cracking game against Birmingham at home last season. Seem to remember that it took a Bobby Zamora wonder goal in injury time to get all three points?
