"Got to be a goal" – Calvin Bassey rues miss against in Fulham's draw at Nottingham Forest
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has rued a missed opportunity in Fulham's goalless draw against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Fulham and Nottingham Forest played out one of the more intriguing encounters of the weekend as they squared off in the Premier League.

Both clubs had plenty at stake; the Tricky Trees were desperate to distance themselves from the relegation zone, while the Cottagers were nursing hopes of securing a spot in European competition next season.

While both sides created numerous openings, clinical finishing was absent. Nottingham Forest thought they had taken the lead, only to be denied a seemingly legitimate goal after VAR ruled that Dan Ndoye was a few centimeters offside.

Bassey was among those who could have won it for the visitors. The Super Eagles center-back failed to convert a pinpoint cross from a set-piece, despite beating his marker to the ball.

His header was directed goalward but was kept out by a sharp save from goalkeeper Matz Sels. Ultimately, the points were shared after a tense 90 minutes.

Calvin Bassey Disappointed by "Gilt-Edged" Chance
Reflecting on the result after the final whistle, Bassey was candid about his missed header. He admitted it was a massive opportunity but also noted the difficult playing conditions at the City Ground.

"It was a big chance. I wasn't sure if I was onside or offside at the moment. I timed the jump well, but I hit it straight at the keeper. It's got to be a goal," Bassey admitted.

"The conditions were tough for both teams; the pitch and the wind made it a difficult game to manage. We tried to handle the situation as best we could."

European Hopes Dented but Not Dead
The draw sees Nottingham Forest climb to 17th in the Premier League table, while Fulham remain in 11th place with 41 points from 30 matches.

While the result dents Fulham's pursuit of a European spot, Bassey remains optimistic about their chances in the final stretch of the season.

"I don't think [a European finish] is ruled out yet. We are taking it one game at a time; anything can happen in this league. I haven't spent too much time looking at the table, but hopefully, things work in our favor," Bassey added.

Next up for Fulham is a home fixture against Burnley at Craven Cottage. Bassey will be looking to help his side claim all three points in front of the home faithful and keep their continental dreams alive.

Player Ratings: Nottingham Forest 0-0 Fulham
The player ratings after an excruciatingly dull afternoon in Nottingham

My partner has really taken to Sunday afternoon naps this year; they've become a bit of a routine. I rarely join her in said slumber, but this game really tested my ability to keep my eyes open, as well as my belief that I enjoy watching football.

While it's true that a point away from home isn't ever really a bad thing, this wasn't good from Fulham. We continue to see a lack of creativity and cutting edge, which is a serious concern given how generous we can be defensively. Either team could have won it but neither deserved it, so 0-0 feels about right. However, we do have VAR, and Dan Ndoye's toe, to thank for getting us out of jail when it seemed like Forest had taken the lead.

Our first clean sheet since the 27 December is welcome, but we're now nearly 330 minutes of football without scoring ourselves. The only reason it's not longer is because, regardless how long it felt, the referee legally had to end the game after 90 minutes, otherwise, god knows how long it would have taken us to find the back of the net.

Full transparency: I can't make a strong case for anyone to be awarded player of the match, so I've simply decided not to. Not that nobody played well, I just don't think anyone really stood out. If you had to push me, I'd probably say either Calvin or Jedi.

Bernd Leno

An unremarkable game for Bernd, which he'll be relieved about. Forced into two saves, both of them fairly routine. Came off his line at one point and did what he should have done against West Ham, which was simply not faff about. Otherwise, not much to note. 6.5/10

Kenny Tete

Looked good in the first half, keeping Gibbs-White very quiet. The second half was a different challenge though, with Ndoye offering threat in behind, and Kenny struggled a bit. He's the deepest defender when Ndoye is fed through on goal, and I really think it's luck rather than good defending that he's just playing the winger offside. He did make a superb sliding block in added time to thwart Awoniyi, but it was his fault he was onside to begin with. I also thought he left Wilson a bit isolated in attack, not offering enough overlapping threat.

This feels a bit overly critical because he wasn't bad, I just know he can be much better. 6.5/10

Joachim Andersen

I disagreed with his inclusion and today's performance has only reinforced that I think Issa Diop should be starting. He was fine in the first half, but as soon as Forest started trying to go over the top, his lack of pace became a huge issue. It unsettled the whole back line and put us under repeated pressure, in a way that simply wouldn't happen with a more mobile centre-half.

On a wet and windy afternoon, his persistence with the massive diagonal balls was irritating, given only four of the 13 found a teammate. The clean sheet is a positive but it really wasn't a reassuring display. 5.5/10

Calvin Bassey

A real roller coaster of a display from Calvin. He should have put us ahead in the first half and a was lucky that an unnecessarily clumsy foul in the penalty area was flagged for offside.

However, outside of that, I thought he was the Fulham player who most looked up for the fight. There were some big tackles, smart bits of defending, and some good work progressing the ball forward. He does stress me out at times with how frantic he can be but I do also love how fun he is - take the rough with the smooth. 7/10

Antonee Robinson

Definitely his best performance since returning from injury. Neither Hudson-Odoi, nor Omari Hutchinson has much joy down his flank and he felt more dynamic going forward.

Still nowhere near what we've seen from him in the past, particularly offensively. The overlapping runs were sporadic, when previously they were relentless. However, promising signs that we might get back to that point. 7/10

Sander Berge

I thought he really stood out as our worst player in the first half. Too passive, too weak, perfectly demonstrated when he was shrugged off the ball by someone smaller than him, and his response was to give away a free kick on the edge of the area and receive a yellow card for doing so.

He made one successful tackle and lost five of his seven duels; he's six foot bloody five...

The second half did feel like an improvement, particularly once Lukic nestled next to him in the middle, but it wasn't great. 5/10

Alex Iwobi

Another player who had a mixed afternoon. At his best he was picking up pockets of space in between the lines and causing Forest to panic, at his worst he was simply passing the ball straight out of play. Felt like there were multiple occasions where he had a great opportunity to have a shot or play a killer ball, and he chose the third option - drift an aimless cross to no-one.

His influence on the game definitely subsided and he was absolutely gassed by the end. 6/10

Oscar Bobb

Felt like a really good moment for him to announce himself as a Fulham player today, but he was totally anonymous. For the first 45 it was as if the ball was demagnetised to him, always finding its way to a different player. After half time, I think there was a concerted effort to get him into the game more, but he just couldn't get control of it. Rightly dragged off for Chukwueze. A disappointing, but not concerning, performance. 5/10

Josh King

I made a note early on that Josh King looked to no longer be playing on instinct. He seemed to be overthinking it, maybe lacking some confidence, which is understandable. That being said, he seriously grew into the game and I thought he looked the most dynamic of our front four.

He dropped deep at times, pulling Sangare out of position and creating gaps. He also did well further forward but was probably guilty of taking too many touches, a symptom of his lack of recent game time. 6.5/10

Harry Wilson

Very little to report. He took one absolutely excellent corner just before half time, which I'm still not sure how we didn't score from. Other than that he got trapped out wide and never got into the positions where we know he can be deadly. Great to have him back though. 5.5/10

Raul Jimenez

An incredible effort to be there today, given the passing of his father. An elbow to the jaw was not an ideal start to the game, and whilst it didn't quite happen for him on the pitch, I'd just like to use this section to say what an incredible professional Raul is. To show such dedication for your job and the shirt, at the end of what will have been a horrid week, is amazing and deserves to be commended. 6.5/10

Substitutes
Rodrigo Muniz

Perhaps the biggest positive to take from today is that Roddy looked like he might be back. His performances recently have been abhorrent, but this was so much better.

Incredibly unlucky to not score with his first touch; the block from Aina is superb and there's not much more Muniz could have done. His hold up play looked far better, he roughed up two of the most physical centre-backs in the league, and he just gave us a bit more oomph. Hopefully a sign of things to come. 7/10

Sasa Lukic

It was about bloody time that Sasa got back on the pitch and I think he looked pretty good. His first appearance since January and he showed what we've been missing at times. He got up and down the central areas well, putting himself about and providing some control. Won't be surprised if he starts next week. 6.5/10

Samuel Chukwueze

Another player who's struggled lately and looked a bit better today, although was probably the least effective of the substitutions. We're really missing the fizz he was giving us earlier in the season 5.5/10

Tom Cairney

Was on the pitch just about long enough to get a rating. Perfectly executed what he'd clearly been instructed to do, which was retain the ball and try to control the last 15 minutes. It worked in the sense that it nullified Forest's threat but it did stifle our attacking play a bit as well. Overall though, a positive impact from TC. 6.5/10

Ryan Sessegnon came on too late to get a rating, however, showed enough threat in those few minutes to suggest that he really needs to be tried in that role further forward again.

Marco Silva

Other than Andersen, I thought he got the starting XI right. It was, on paper, a positive side that looked like they'd take the game to Forest. It didn't quite go as planned and he made changes that I agreed with and did swing the momentum back towards us for the final half an hour. There were no baffling decisions like we've seen in the past week and a half.

Where I'm struggling is the attacking shapes. Three blanks in a row is pretty unprecedented for this side and it feels like a long time ago that we praised Silva and the brand of football he instilled. I do also think that the blame isn't entirely at his door. He'll bemoan a sloppiness and slowness that he isn't asking of his players, which I think is very valid. However, it is on him to find the solution.

This wasn't a terrible result but the performance was not at the appropriate levels and unless he fixes it, we're going to see a really drab end to a magnificent reign. Burnley at home needs to be a win, but I think it also needs to be fun, we need to find a spark. 6/10

Bassey: Difficult game
Premier League Productions caught up with Calvin Bassey following Fulham's goalless draw at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

His header in the first half that was saved by Matz Sels...

It was a big chance. I wasn't sure if I was on or off. I timed it well, but just hit it straight at the 'keeper. I think I've got to pick a side, I've got to do a lot better. I think it's got to be a goal, in my opinion.

A match that took a while to grow into...

Both teams had to deal with the conditions – the pitch, the wind. It was a difficult game, I feel like we grew into it, we tried to manage the situations as best we could, we knew that we had to cover each other, because anything could happen.

The defence deserving credit for their line as two vital offside calls involving Dan Ndoye went our way...

Great line! Of course, we always try to keep a good line and we managed to do that. Obviously, there's a bit of luck as well, it was marginal, by a boot or something, but that's what VAR's for.

If a European finish is now out of reach...

I don't think it's ruled out. We take each game as it comes, anything can happen. I haven't had a chance to look at the table and see where the other teams are at. The most important thing was that we didn't lose this game, and we didn't lose the game. We just take each game as it comes, and hopefully things will work in our favour as well.

Legend of the Match Result: Nottingham Forest
Kenny Tete has been named Royal Caribbean Legend of the Match following his efforts against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The Dutchman was part of a resolute Fulham rearguard that kept our hosts at bay at the City Ground, earning his side a first clean sheet of 2026.

Tete saved his most telling contribution until last, when he made up ground impeccably to get across and deny Taiwo Awoniyi a stoppage time winner with a sensational sliding block.

31.5 per cent of fans opted for Tete as their Legend of the Match, putting him ahead of Calvin Bassey (22.2%) and Josh King (9%).

Marco Silva shares thoughts on a 'tight' contest at the City Ground
Fulham fought for their point on the road.

Marco Silva spoke about a 0-0 draw between Fulham and Nottingham Forest.

The relegation threatened outfit were denied a goal for Dan Ndoye as the Cottagers could not get the better of a team with plenty to fight for. The hope for another record-breaking Premier League points tally is still on the table, and the head coach is not discounting the idea of qualifying for Europe.

"We've come to the moment of the season where all the teams, it doesn't matter what they're fighting for, every game is going to be much more difficult to get the three points.

"Very tight, the first half. I think both teams, they didn't get the tempo or the momentum. The biggest chance was from us, from Calvin Bassey in the six-yard box, completely alone from a set piece.

"Apart from that, we arrived in certain areas, dangerous areas with the ball but didn't get the right decisions or inspiration that we needed to create something more. It was a very balanced first half.

"Second half, with the emotions of that offside and the chances first for Forest and after we had our moments as well, the game became a little bit more emotional, a little bit more open.

"Both teams were trying to win the game. It's a point on the road for us, keeping a clean sheet which is very, very important for us – something that we have been missing.

"We move on for a game before the international break (against Burnley at Craven Cottage) that is going to be crucial if we want to fight for something more. It's going to be crucial for our aspirations.

"If you are in this position right now in the table, we have to look ahead. Every game we have should be played like a final. We are some points behind seventh position but if it's there for us to fight for, why not? We are going to fight as hard as we can to be there. Until the end of the season, we'll fight."

Bryan Mbeumo heaps praise on Fulham star linked with £25m Man Utd transfer
Fulham could struggle to keep hold of their talented full-back this summer amid interest from Man Utd and Aston Villa.

Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo has named Fulham full-back Antonee Robinson as the hardest defender to face in the Premier League, shortly followed by another Cottagers man.

The Red Devils star was speaking on the Zack en Route Libre podcast and was asked which two defenders had impressed him the most. The pick of Robinson comes just a week after the latest reports suggesting that Manchester United could make a move to sign the player.

There were claims that both Manchester United and Aston Villa could compete over a summer move for Robinson. The player is under contract at Craven Cottage until 2028 but could be keen on the chance to play Champions League football - something both those sides are competing to be able to offer.

Bryan Mbeumo gives stamp of approval to Fulham defender Antonee Robinson
Speaking to the podcast, Mbeumo recalled facing Robinson when he was with Brentford in the Championship. He said: "One that people won't think is Robinson at Fulham. This guy, I used to play him all the time when he was at Wigan in the Championship.

"When he had just arrived in England he was the American prototype - athletic, runs super fast but not really, really good. He's impressed hugely. I'm so happy to see his progression because he started like me, a bit lower, and is now at Fulham. I really like this full-back. He's strong, quick and now great with his feet. He's really difficult."

The next player Mbeumo named is also impressing at Fulham. He continued: "Another is Calvin Bassey. He's twice my body! It's crazy. He runs so quickly as well. It's not cool playing against him."

Speaking via Marca in 2024, Robinson had hinted that he would be open for an exit, should Fulham green light a transfer. He said: "I'm very happy here. The fact that there is interest from other teams is great. Obviously, it all comes down to whether someone wants me enough to pay what Fulham would ask. So, if the club sees it as a good idea, I would leave."

Fulham boss weighs in on Calvin Bassey's missed chance against Nottingham Forest
Fulham's head coach, Marco Silva, has weighed in on Calvin Bassey's missed chance against Mats Sels as they were held to a goalless draw at the City Ground yesterday, Soccernet.ng reports.

In a game that had a lot of drama, Bassey's header could've been a pivotal moment had the ball gone in from Alex Iwobi's floated cross.

However, the attempt of the ex-Rangers man was straight at the goalkeeper, and while Forest would go on to take hold of the game from there, Bassey truly had the clearest chance of the game.

Marco Silva speaks on Calvin Bassey's missed header
Dan Ndoye came off the bench for Nottingham Forest at half-time and troubled Bassey severely. The winger initially got a penalty off the Nigerian defender, but the decision was overturned.

The Swiss winger thought he'd scored some minutes later, but the VAR intervened and the goal was chalked off after he was caught offside.

Still, Marco Silva believes that the biggest chance of the game fell to Calvin Bassey, admitting the game would've been different from there on in.

"Very tight, the first half. I think both teams didn't get the tempo or the momentum. The biggest chance was from us, from Calvin Bassey in the six-yard box, completely alone from a set piece," the Portuguese manager said in quotes from Fulham's official website.

"Apart from that, we arrived in certain areas, dangerous areas, with the ball but didn't get the right decisions or inspiration that we needed to create something more. It was a very balanced first half.

"Second half, with the emotions of that offside and the chances first for Forest and after we had our moments as well, the game became a little bit more emotional, a little bit more open.

"Both teams were trying to win the game. It's a point on the road for us, keeping a clean sheet, which is very, very important for us – something that we have been missing.

"We move on to a game before the international break (against Burnley at Craven Cottage) that is going to be crucial if we want to fight for something more. It's going to be crucial for our aspirations.

"If you are in this position right now in the table [11th], of course, we have to look ahead [to qualifying for European football].

"Every game that we have now should be played like a final. We are some points behind seventh position, but if it's there for us to fight for, why not?

"We are going to fight as hard as we can to be there. Until the end of the season, we'll fight," Marco Silva concluded.

Up next for Fulham is a home clash against Burnley at Craven Cottage. The last time both sides met, Bassey was on the scoresheet as Marco Silva's men broke a 74-year Turf Moor jinx.
