What's always puzzled me is why, as former BBC senior executive and long-term prominent broadcaster, there has never been an equivalent "Wildlife/conservation Aid", in the same way as Red Nose day, Band Aid and similar fund-raisers.

There have been so many opportunities (for instance) to buy significant areas of land to protect or restore (recently a very large Scottish estate) for which desperate appeals have been made to the limited circle of already-interested parties who are in the loop where acquainting the general public would have achieved so much more.
