I usually stock up on single malts and brandy at this time of year because offers kick in during the summer months.  If anyone's interested, Waitrose have some really good offers. Talisker was £57.00, now £31; Laphroaig 10-Year-Old was £45, now £29;  Courvoisier was £47.00, now £29.

I do love the Waitrose own brand Armagnac but it's never on offer but have noticed that the XO Domaine Tariquet is £10 off and £1 cheaper than the own brand so may give it a go.

Don't mind a drop of the old gold watch now & again. Have you tried Cotswold single malt? Oz Clarke the wine expert was on a programme some time back and he was recommending different whiskeys and he highlighted this. Have to say it is very nice. More a wine person but I do still pick up a bottle when getting low. The other one I found myself enjoying every now & then is Monkey Shoulder. Not a connoisseur of Scotch but a couple I tend to keep in cupboard.

Thanks for that.  I've never heard of Cotswold but will seek it out - I like peaty, smoky whisky like Laphroaig.  My favourite is Lagavulin but at usually £80+ for a 'basic' 10 year old I don't often see or drink it these days.  It does make an enjoyable birthday present though!

Have you tried Talasker 57, OMG

Talisker 57° North is bottled at 57% ABV (Alcohol By Volume). In terms of traditional spirit measurement, this is exactly 114 proof (which equates to 100 on the old British proof scale, or 114 degrees proof on the US scale).The "57" in its name was chosen specifically to match the exact latitude of the Talisker distillery, located on the rugged, wind-swept Isle of Skye in Scotland.

Tasting notes for Talisker 57º North
Talisker malts are unique, providing part of the backbone for the Johnnie Walker blends and gaining the respect among whisky connoisseurs due to their complexity and marine style.

Nose: Intense and clean nose with citrus, smoke, peat, and pepper.

Palate: Thin sweet entry that evolves immediately into a full blast of peat and pepper. Intense flavors, but surprisingly easy to drink even at cask strength. After adding water, the malt becomes less aggressive and slightly sweeter, but you can still taste the smoke, peat, and pepper. Lovely stuff!

Finish: A long and intense blast of smoke, peat, and pepper.

Conclusion: I love Talisker 57 North due to its explosive peppery character and uniqueness. This whisky is not going to cuddle you like some bourbons. The malt will reveal itself quickly and take you to a different place. A nice NAS malt if you enjoy a classic single malt. Slainte!
