I have never really seen Mickey interviewed before

Really great interview and very interesting

Seems like a great guy
Remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
I will be as good as I can be and when I cross the finishing line I will see what it got me

One of the few Fulham Fixes I've watched to the end, a great guy. I'm glad he's happy returning to the club now.

Great fix indeed! 10/10.

Notable points of things i didn't know/remember (having read the section about Fulham in his book) and for anyone who doesn't have time for the full hour:
*We almost signed Ian Rush when Al Fayed came in.
*Simon Morgan could have gone to Gillingham to join Jim Stannard in the pre-season of 96. He said Morgs would deny that he was considering it, and we were able to keep him. A proper sliding doors moment. Maybe we wouldn't have been promoted and Gillingham might have been more successful. Like the Back to the Future 2, where Biff has his own Trump-tower. Strange that Gillingham was mentioned so much (he played there for them, screwed them over for three cheap players as manager for us, and also managed there as Brighton manager when they groundshared). He also said he styled the Fulham 97 promotion team on Pulis' Gillingham team who got promoted in 1996 (and who celebrated on the final day at the cottage). He did inadvertently make it sound like Gillingham celebrated on the pitch; but, he meant the team and staff, not the "6000 supporters". That would have been a very different picture.
*The old groundsman, who before now i used to think was some kind of Fulham icon (the bloke who looked like a Woodstock throwback), apparently did the opposite of what Micky Adams asked him when he became manager. Adams asked for the surface to be watered before the game, so he dug holes instead and made it dry and bobbly. Adams had to go to Branfoot, who could only say, he'll come around. The same groundsman was apparently someone who was part of the "Out group". A group who were sponsors of the club and "wanted whoever was manager out". The lower leagues breeds a strange bunch of people!  :cheesy:
*He knew Rodney McAree from McAree's dad, although Branfoot signed him. And McAree played that day in Carlisle because he was the only one who went out for a prematch walk in a t shirt!

And the things that i may have known but forgotten:
*He used to play just behind Le Tissier at Southampton.
*We were lucky to sign him. I knew he was good, but didn't realise how he had dropped way below his level to sign for us and learn the ropes as a manager from Branfoot (before the internet allowed you to know what you were actually signing). As a player, his Free Kicks were legendary but almost never mentioned. Have we had anyone as prolific since?
*He made sure he always had at least six 6-footers in the team. Something Lawrie Sanchez could have learnt.
*He also signed Bobby Zamora for Brighton (alongside, Morgan, Cullip, Watson, Carpenter and Freeman). Seems like everyone decent wanted to play for Adams. Ironic he was a bit like the Keegan of the lower leagues in that respect; the man who would ultimately replace him.

The part at the end about Terry Angus turning up at a school is a little bit slow but for anyone interested it's actually on youtube 4:33. It really captures how Fulham players have always been great ambassadors for the game, even before Micky came in. Likeable, down to earth and approachable.

If I recall correctly, the groundsman was called Steve McGee & was definitely a character.

I think Steve McGee ended up liking his rugby league even more than football when Fulham had a team, although I may have made that bit up... another great interview by Ivan and Felix, what a great guy Micky is and typical of the man to pay tribute to those of us who stood by the club as it all but went down the pan.

I thought Steve Magee had left Fulham by 1996/97. He went on to work full time with the London Broncos.

I was lucky enough to travel on the team coach to a couple of away games back the thanks to Bob Howes who used to organise it and Steve the groundsman would be on there too with his long hair.
1975 just leaving home full of hope

Adams was appointed in 95/96 (with us 91st). Perhaps MaGee was one of Adam's "Free Transfer"s in the next pre-season against Jimmy Hill's wishes.
So was he more a character or actually a bit of a nob? I couldn't tell from what Adams said. One thing is true, as soon as he left (according to your dates) we started winning again.
