Quote from: WolverineFFC on September 01, 2026, 01:52:19 PMNo meltdown, just concern here. Two games, zero points. The first game completely wide open at the back with good fortune to have not given up 4 or 5 goals. The second game with zero shots on goal. A manager with no track record of success in the Premier League. I am not sure where the foundation of play is at this point.

I also wonder if a great deal of unease comes from this veteran group having few true leaders. It's not a criticism of them, just an acknowledgement of their personalities. If the club are caught in a relegation scrap, who are the fighters?

Palace and Bournemouth hired managers without a track record in the Prem and have done so again this time. Managers who have performed well in the Prem don't come to Fulham. Silva's track record in the Prem wasn't anything to boast about but SK had faith in him.

On Palace and Bournemouth, they also have a track record of hiring managers as ownership who have kept them up.

The Khans have 1, Silva. Beyond that they are 0 for 6. The optimist would say they know what they are looking for now, the pessimist would say they got lucky with Silva.

I disagree with your characterization of Silva. Look at Hull before he got there and what he did to turn them around in his brief time. Everton and Watford after he left were worse off for quite awhile. He was and still is a proven Premier League manager. His whole negative reputation was in his job climbing persona which was part earned and part a media creation.

He got relegated with Hull and then resigned. Went to Watford where he got sacked for talking to Everton, where he took them to 8th and then, you've guessed it, got sacked the following season. Hardly a track record of success.

I assume with such a bad record, you objected to his appointment?

I did the same with any appointment made by SK and got behind the manager. Given Silva's record of managing in the Prem SK resurrected his career and he is now managing one of the top clubs in Portugal.

The teams he managed in Greece and Portugal were big clubs and are always successful, irrespective of the manager at the time.

I'm not knocking Marco, I thought he was great for us but a bit of perspective needed to be added if discussing teams he managed in Greece and Portugal.

Not quite, he brought tiny Estoril up from the second tier of Portuguese football all the way to fifth place in the top division and qualified for the Europa League.

An 8th place finish is not bad. Have a friend who is an Evertonian who felt he got a rough deal being sacked when he did - apparently club had horrendous injury list. However, a thumping at home to Liverpool was too much.

Fulham was Marco's sixth job in 6 years, Appointing was a bit risky at the time.

Quote from: Snibbo on September 02, 2026, 01:33:06 AMFulham was Marco's sixth job in 6 years, Appointing was a bit risky at the time.

No it wasn't. We were mired in yoyo land spending the better part of a decade in the championship. All things considered, he was a very shrewd appointment and an unquestionable success. Talented managers weren't banging our door down to try to get us promoted for the 3rd time in 4 years. This past summer was a very different proposition, as we were a highly attractive opportunity for any successful ambitious manager to take on. SK could have appointed any number of highly qualified managers.

TC's Sporran

at hull he took over from mike phelan who started the season with only 16 professionals on the books
phelan only  managed to get 6 wins despite having future captains of england and scotland in the squad

silva took over and managed 6 home wins  4 in his first 4 games !!  but not one away win.
He did OK in a very difficult situation but ultimately showed no flexibility and played very predictable football.  hull conceded 17 goals in three matches at the end of the season

when they got relegated he resigned saying he didnt want to manage in the championship
