David Villa (31) - Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010 winner, 2011 Champions league winner - just been sold for €5.5m
Darren Bent (29) - Charlton Athletic Player Of The Year 2006 - asking price by Aston Villa £5-8m

Has the world gone mad?
@MattRhys63 - be warned, there will be a lot of nonsense

....well, and the Brazilians. I don't believe there's an emoticon appropriate for what happened there. Insanity.

Villa has been an absolute shadow since his leg break. And only one year left on his contract, a contract Barca won't want to pay as Neymar is now there.

God The Mechanic

Equally, Bent ain't worth what Villa want. But Barca would be paying two maybe three times Bent's salary.

Still better and worth more than Darren Bent.

What Villa  067.gif want 067.gif for Bent, and what they expect to fetch for him are two different things, hence the reason he is still at the club. They were mugs to pay what they did for him in the first place but he is is a prime example of an over inflated transfer market.

Too right. £24 million is nuts.

No doubt about it he is currently overpriced, even at £5m, but Villa got their moneys worth the half season he played on signing. Without him coming in and immediately scoring the goals to lift them away from the relegation zone Villa would have been relegated long before this season and would have lost out on at least £50-£60m not incuding next seasons windfall if they didn't bounce straight back up(probably not). He has probably paid his fee back four times over

You could say much the same as our own saviour, Diomansy Kamara, we could have paid £50m for him and he still would have been cheap. his goals at City saved us which allowed later Glory and his away  goal against CSKA was just as an important building block, we may well had an early exit and no Eufa cup run as Roy was playing a semi reserve team in the early rounds

Good post Riether Lighting 63. I was thinking exactly Same thing

Just out of interest, have you seen the quoted wages of Villa? That should clear up the relative low upfront fee. He will cost far more than Bent when that contract is up. I do see your point though.

Markffc123

No doubt the Bent situation may be put on hold considering benteke handed in a transfer request...will villa really want to be 2 strikers down come august?

God The Mechanic

If they get £30million for the two of them they should be able to replace them quite effectively :P

Barca needed to offload Villa due to his wages. Didn't we get Berbatov for a similar price at the same age as him?
