Am I the only one not to bothered about missing out on Osvaldo?

Seria A players don't have a reputation of doing well in England. Shevchenko and Aquilani were flops, Balotelli didn't live up to his price tag. Although he might do well, i'm not that bothered about missing out on him.

Roma got a very good deal considering they were trying to get rid. Happy with Bent, proven goal scorer in premier league. Osvaldo is undoubtedly a talented player but we were unwilling to pay that price to Espanyol and few years ago so nothing has changed really.

True, but the price is 15 million when we can get proven goal scorers like Berbatov for 5 million (although older)

All im saying is that I think that 5 million is a huge risk for a player who is unproven in a difficult league where better players have failed.

I don't know a lot about him & have only seen him play once or twice & one of those was during the week. If we're going to spend a big chunk of money on 1 player I'd rather it be someone creative. With berbatov & Bent we already have the players to put the ball in the net.

completely agree

I'm not bothered in the slightest at 15 million.....not when we can get Bent and be assured he can find the net in this league. Osvaldo just isn't worth that.

It appears that we are not in the spending mood yet again this summer and that we're waiting until the last trying to fulfill needs on the cheap (free transfers and loans). If we can do that before the last week of the window, then the AM will have had his way. If we aren't able, then I'd imagine us loosening the purse strings and putting up money on the LB or CM we still need. I have my doubts about anyone seeing a need at LB and that Risse will be re-signed on the cheap since it's obvious Kieran, though good enough, is looking like a sick note.

Osvaldo is two years younger than Bent, which is a definite advantage.
Other than that I fail to detect anything which makes Osvaldo at £15m a more compelling buy than Bent at considerably less than that.
Since 2007 Osvaldo has a strike rate of .38 goals/game, Bent is slightly better at .42. Both have similar International records without cementing a regular spot. On top of that Osvaldo would seem to carry more temperamental baggage than Bent.

I'm happy at the result.

[I suspect that Bent's strike rate may be even more impressive as I know he made a lot of sub appearences for Spurs, some of them quite brief.]

Obviously would have loved it if we were mega rich or even for the rumoured £8m but £15m was too much of a risk. Will probably start off well and will be managed by a fellow Argentine / Spanish speaker who has managed him before - think he might have exploded in our dressing room.

Having said that the one Roma import I did love was Montella with his little cameos who I am sure would have been great for us if we had got him younger
