FPT, I and a host of others listed many reasons as to why Ali Mac has to go on the Big Mac thread from Thursday and Friday.  But the real killer blow came from Logicalman who even shut up our doubting lawyer who asked the same question you did.  Our ex-cop presented point by point evidence to justify, even demand, Mac's dismissal.

just as a basic rule of business, if things are going wrong on a continuing basis then in the end the man at the helm, in this case the CEO is usually held responsible. The sort of descisions that would have been our CEOs would be keeping Jol after a disastorous run at the end of last season continuing this season, the selection of a totally inexperienced replacement and just when we seemed to be turning the corner with rene, appointing a third manager with no experience of the premier league.
The transfer fiasco of mitroglu would be sufficient in my book.
but the main issue was he allowed jol to destroy all the good work that had gone before, and that was a crime. Infact the appointment of a serial underachiever such as jol was so very wrong.
Not bringing in a class act like poyet was another crime.

Yes, and as was said at the time, this is not a public business with many shareholders and a stock market price. It is owned by one person. The owner sets the strategy, the CEO implements it.

And under MAF the hiring and firing of managers and the approval of (big) transfers was the decision of the owner as it is with most football clubs. Why would Khan give up that right to an accountant? We heard Jol say that AM got all Jol's targets and a similar statement was made about the January acquisitions for Rene by Khan so it still looks as though the managers are choosing the targets and the owner is approving the budget and targets.
