Ream my man of the match.

I'll be first to admit that I wasn't at the game yesterday, I had work all day, although I was pretty estatic to hear the result. Since viewing the highlights available I've decided to, genuinely, make Tim Ream my man of the match.

This is based on the fact that he and Kalas almost kept a clean sheet against the best side in the league and I feel I'd rather give it to players who are underappreciated for the role they play because regardless it's still very key everyone pitches in and provides the platform... but I also decided that the fact he took the penalty, given the news Slavisa told him to, that he should be commended.

Not for missing the penalty, obviously, but for the fact that he did it regardless of sentimentality because he was told to by the manager and whilst he was embarrassed to do so, he did it anyway. For me, I find that of tremendous value.

The humility shown to acknowledge Sessegnon should've been allowed to take it is important and shows the character of it, but to go against sentimentality and understand he has a job and is accountable to his manager is the type of team player I'm proud to have at the club.

I know saying this wont prove popular, Sessegnon was a popular choice for his first hat-trick and he didn't score... 8 out of 10 missed this season... but he took responsibility for it, when I'm sure many didn't want to and did as the manager asked even though he felt uncomfortable doing so.

I find that type of behavious admirable, even if he did miss... in fairness he's amongst quite a few who have missed PK this season.

Onwards and upwards. again, regardless of most things I am excited about our future and really excited about the prospect of even seeing Fulham play just one game at Wembley.

I'm a fan of our squad, the togetherness and potential it holds and our style of play under our good manager... I'm enjoying this year a lot.

That said though, I do worry about how we would transition to the premiership if we did get promoted.. I just am unsure how our squad would realistically transition into the league. We've got a lot of players playing very well for us, but a lot haven't proved amazingly competent at Premiership level.

Fulham Tup North

I had Ream also. Everything that came into the box, he cleared!!

Did you not watch the goal Newcastle scored ?

Milo

Having had hope against Burton that Ream had turned a corner... I still unfortunately place him in the Senderos bracket.

Everytime the ball gets to him I fear he will not look up and misplace a pass to their strikers... Or will slice a shot into his own net... Etc.

I would sell him this summer definitely and buy someone more solid.

That said, he has improved considerably. He looks more commanding and relaxed than he did originally. But that Senderos gene is toxic I'm afraid. Logic tells me he should be moved on in the summer for this reason.

I have to 100% agree with you...taking orders as directed and not go with his own decision is exactly the type of trait you want in a player. I'd loved to see sess score a hattrick, of course, but Ream was brilliant.

Yes he was at fault for the goal but it was the one mistake he made and it wasn't as though he gifted the goal, it was still a fair strike from Murphy

Never Ever compare anyone to Senderos...Never! I dreaded him..He still gives me shivers man!

Just a side note - felt no one was at fault for goal as was a fantastic shot blind with back to goal bottom corner. Really lovely stuff from Murphy.

All goals were excellent! Treat.

Agree.
And certainly a lot better than Tony Gale ever gave him credit for.

Carborundum

On my bookshelf there's a paperback called "Round Ireland with a fridge", where the author made  a mildly interesting journey more entertaining by bringing along something inappropriate for the ride.  It was done to win a bet.

Aiming for the top 6 with Tim Ream reminds me of it.

Wasn't there but just watched the 90 minutes and Ream had a very good game. Numerous times Jim comments on Ream's good defending/play

toshes mate

I have never been a member of the anti-Ream brigade.  He doesn't deserve to be scapegoated for the system Fulham play which places a lot of pressure on defenders when and if mistakes are made in midfield.  Like many before it the goal at St James' Park came from directly from a midfield mistake; ball given away too cheaply; the opponents fire a ball over the top of everybody and a decent strike from Murphy just inside the far post completes the activity.  I'd prefer to reflect on the number of times Ream intercepted and tackled to recover from similar midfield breakdowns.

Was Tim Ream M-O-T-M?   He certainly did no worse than several others and was better than many, if not most, when it mattered.  Would those who have to have a go at somebody when we don't collect a clean sheet be equally hard on attackers who fail to convert chances?   I thought Saturday's display was a team performance which was up there with the best this season, not as dominating as some (we were better against Leeds with less of a result), but so effective in the outcome.   If you asked me to choose between the sixteen year old's brace and Tim Ream's ninety minutes of effort I'd struggle to decide who was best, and I'd give it to both of them.

Bassey the warrior

Agreed. He was terrific especially first half.
